Router emails trigger error 553

I sometimes want my Netgear ADSL router to email me it's log, but this now gives me Error 553. Netgear are baffled and so am I. Can anyone tell me what precisely causes the BTYahoo SMTP server to send 553? The router's email is effectively from me to me so it shouldn't trigger the anti-spoof trap.  Driving the BTYahoo SMTP server manually with TELNET seems to point to the MAIL FROM: command failing but I can't figure out why. If I manually send MAIL FROM: <me> and RCPT TO: <me> it succeeds, and I had assumed that is what the router does.  MAIL FROM: <someone_else> fails with 553 of course.  A friend who has the same router finds it works fine on another ISP, so BTYahoo are doing something odd.
BT's helpline didn't understand my problem at all.  I hope someone here does!.

Peter

I have to ASSUME that the router tries to send this email FROM me TO me, which should be perfectly acceptable to the SMTP server. I don't know if it does this because this email never gets sent forward and never gets sent back!  All I see (if I later access the router via its web interface) is the Error553 message in the log.  I asked a pal with the same router to try it. It worked with his ISP and the message HEADERS showed the To: and From: headers were [email protected] , but there's no way to see what the addresses were in the MAIL FROM: and RCPT TO: commands in the SMTP protocol (these are NOT the same as the "To:" and "From:" headers in the message body).  I haven't been able to get Netgear to tell me what addresses their router does use (should be [email protected]) so I am trying to work from the other end and find out what it is that the SMTP server at BTYahoo doesn't like when it throws a 553 at me.  I know it does this if I manually type MAIL FROM: [email protected] into TELNET.  I am certain this isn't a verification problem, it's a clash between the way BTYahoo's SMTP server is (now) behaving and the way the Netgear router is behaving.

Hi Peter. Welcome to the forums.
It is a verification problem, and the "From" email address should be enough to be honest, much like a normal email. What Netgear router is it ?
Can you say for certain that you have provided one of your @btinternet.com email addresses and corresponding password to the netgear settings ? (sorry for the obvious question).
Do you know if it has ever worked for you ? I expect there are other users of that router, so wonder if they have a similar problem.
Are you getting any response emails at all (e.g. in your spam folder, typically only accessible via webmail) for this problem ?

I have received an email about Error 553 which I have tried to resolve but am now wondering if I did the right think.  It asked me to go into my outlook account settings and check the email addresses.  My main email address came up, but so did one at btopenworld.com which I did not know I had.  I am now not sure what to do with that address and how did that get set up without me being aware of it?
I also open my husband's emails on my iPhone, especially when we are away from home, so could the error message have come through because I answered one of his emails for him from outlook at home?
    Any help?

  • Help Error 553 Email

Received an email this evening purporting to be from BT regarding 'error 553'.  It requests logging into BT.com via a link and then confirming my email addresses.  It says emails may be blocked.  It coincided with me trying out the windowsmail programme that I have (and which I won't be using).  Neither may be connected.
Have tried contacting the helpline but found it impossible to get the person the other end to understand what I was talking about.  I am reluctant to click on the links and to do this in case it is a spam email.  Has anyone else had this and is it a genuine email

    Hi.
If the email has been received because of your testing Windows Mail, then it will because of some settings problems in an account you've set up in it. The details in the sending (smtp) section will be incorrect compared to ther "From" email address you've speciified elsewhere within.
When you tried sending the email in this case, you will get the reply you have seen.
If you aren't going to use Windows Mail, then you can happily ignore the email.

pls any one have idea in this case...Pls help me.
    Thanks in advance.

    The key is here:
your envelope sender isn't in my gmf list
I don't know what a gmf list is, but the envelope
sender is normally the same as your From address.
It looks like this server is not willing to accept
messages from you because it doesn't know about
    you.
If you're not authenticating to the mail server, you
might try that to see if that avoids this problem.

  • Error 553 - Add or Edit an Account Page inaccessib...

This has been going on since last week when I added my problem onto the end of someone else's message, but I'm getting desperate about my problem with email now.
It started off with the old chestnut - Error 553 when I tried to send emails from alternate (to BT) email addresses, so I found online instructions on how to verify those addresses and off I went to Yahoo to carry them out. Getting in was no problem, I know my password, and I could open everything except "add or edit an account". When I clicked on the link, it just came up with either a blank page or a message telling me that the page couldn't be displayed and a DNS error.
I've been trying ever since. I have the correct security settings enabled, I've tried switching my hub off and back on (to provide a different IP address), I've loaded my Yahoo account through various browsers; IE, Firefox, Yahoo and Google Chrome and I spoke to customer services who took control over my machine for about 2 hours but couldn't fix the problem. All my temporary internet files and cookies have been cleared down loads of times and I've installed and run CCleaner and now I'm just stumped about what else to try.
I still can't send emails out of my non-BT addresses, has anyone got any ideas please?

Hi, I use one Bt email address, two PIPEX addresses and one other, all of which worked perfectly well until last week when I started receiving the Error 553 messages. I'll take one of the PIPEX as an example of my setup, for argument's sake, lets call it [email protected] In server information, it says
    Server Information
My incoming mail server is a POP3 server
    Incoming Mail (POP3): pophost.mydebs808server.co.uk
    Outgoing Mail (SMTP): mail.btinternet.com
    Incoming Mail Server
    Email user name: debs808username
    Password: debs808password
Log on using Clear Text Authentication ticked
    Outgoing Mail Server
    My server requires authentication ticked
Then when you open settings, The box ticked is "Log on Using": btinternetaccountname
    Password: btinternet password
Log on using secure password authentication NOT ticked.
In the advanced tab, my settings are 25 for outgoing mail and 110 for incoming, though I have tried replacing 25 with 587 which made no difference. The option that says "This server requires a secure connection (SSL) is NOT ticked on either outgoing or incoming. I must admit to not really understanding what you meant in your last post NanoTm, does that shed any light on my predicament?
    Hi again.
The above settings are fine, and should work as long as the email address is verified (which is the cause of your problem). Even though it did work until last week, that was probably more by luck. I've mentioned before that sometimes various users needed to verify the different email address set in the "E-mail address" field of the "General" tab in OE compared to their BTinternet address - and some other people not. Then for some reason the system catches up the the "not" people.
Your problem is that access to the "Add or edit account" option which needs sorting out.

I have an application that is creating avi clips of a process.  This application is writing frame data which is read later in another application.  It is at this point, during the reading of the data that an Error -1074396037 Trigger error is occuring.  I am using IMAQ Vision 7.0 and Labview 7.0.  Attached is an avi that was created. It consists of a total of 75 frames.  Also attached is a simplified version of the frame read part of my application.  When reading the frame data I get the error at frames 36 and 51.
I was hoping somebody could have a look and see why I am getting the error.

    Hi Terry,
I ran your program with your video and got error 1074395975 DirectX has timed out reading the avi file.  I do not think there is anything wrong with your program because I ran your program with a different avi file and it worked perfectly.  I also ran the shipping example Read AVI Example.vi with your video and got the same timeout error.
So there must be something wrong with your avi file.  Perhaps frames 36 and 51 are missing or corrupt for some reason.  Try creating the avi file again and see if you still have the same problem.  If you do, then we'll have to investigate the problem with the creation of the file.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @TheShadow42 ,
I read about the scan to email issue you are having and I will gladly try to help you! I would suggest checking your scan to email settings from the EWS, and perhaps run the scan to email wizard again. You should also see a scan and test option in the setup.
Here is a link to the User Manual, that has quite a bit of great info. Check out page 62 for the scan to email information.

When I try to send a photo from iPhoto by email, and error message reads "The email server didn't recognize your username/password combination".  How do I fix this?

Try to reenter you rmail account details in the iPhoto Preferences > Accounts tab.
Delete the mail account entry by pressing the "-" button below the left column in the panel, then add it again by pressing "+".
Also, it is recommended, to set "Mail" as mail client in the iPhoto preferences, and not iPhoto. This has been working much more reliably lately.
