Router keeps kicking us off and requires constant ...

Hi,
I have read a number of similar threads that didn't lead anywhere but was hoping there may be some more recent help.
We've had BT service for over a year and it's been ok. Over the past couple of months the wireless connection on of our several computers has dropped and cannot be reinitiated. Specifically, our network is still available to select in the Windows list of wireless networks, but attempting to connect just times out. Consistent with this the router itself shows that broadband and wireless are both on. Nevertheless, the only way of getting back on is powering turning the router off and on again.
I thought the problem was with my wireless adapter, but after installing new drivers and finding this problem on two other laptops, it is clearly the router. I have tried setting it to a different channel but this has made no difference. One thing that exacerbates the issue is trying to stream or download multiple things at once, which was reported in another post.
I've seen that people are asked to post their line stats as a matter of course, so please find this information below even though I'm sure it has nothing to do with the issue (which seems to be that the router disconnects us and won't let us back on, but maintains ADSL and Wireless connectivity).

Hi halc,
1) Just to make sure it's not the connection between the hub and the exchange can you please click "more details" on the hubs adsl connection stats. This will show FEC, HEC, CRC and repost.
2) also Can you please run a BT speed test http://speedtester.bt.com (not beta version) still to make sure your connection is ok.
3) If your devices are not N wireless rated then it might be an idea changing the Wireless interface type to b/g only.
4) If you have interferance on the wifi channel then manualy change it to another channel.

    If you have restored to factory settings and started as new, there is nothing more that you can do on your own. Make an appointment at an Apple Store and ask them for help. You might have a hardware problem and the Apple Store techs will be able to determine that.

    Reset the Device:
    Hold the power button and the home button down until the device shuts off, then power it back on and see if the problem is resolved.
    That won't remove any data. I hope that works.

    I'm experiencing the same issue. It's one thing to have to re-power up but to not be able to do so without plugging in the charger when the battery is substantially full, is a real drag.

    I Have an Iphone 3gs that keeps switching itself off and when i turn it on, the date is set to 1st January 1970 :S   ... many software resets and updates won't do any good .. repaired at the manufacturer twice for the same, and works till it happens again on it's own. When it was repaired, the fix was mentioned as a reset done for the device. I have a friend who is alse havng same issue.

    Sounds like the battery is dead.  Bu try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iPOd
    Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
    If still problem your battery is very likely dead.  An appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I pulled up and hooked it up to itunes on my computer but I'm not really sure what to do there either.  It's so annoying, especially when it's used daily, or all day, by me or my kids and it's constantly shutting off in the middle of things.

    DId the rebooting start recently after doing an iOS update or installing a game? 
    There could be several reasons for your iPad randomly shutting down & restarting. 
    Sometimes low memory (RAM) can cause the issue. 
    First, restart the iPad by holding down the home & sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears then let go and wait until the iPad boots up normally.  This can help clear the cache & free up memory.
    If that doesn't work, try a general reset:
    Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings.  You will not lose any data but will have to log back into your Wifi networks.
    If the issue occurs while using a particular app, try uninstalling the app to see if it continues.
    As a last resort try restoring the iPad back to factory settings.  Be sure to backup your iPad first.
    Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
    Unfortunately, it may also be that your battery is starting to fail but try the above to see if the problem persists.

  • 3G keeps kicking me off wifi??

    This problem just started about 4 or 5 days ago. The phone has a hard time staying connected to wifi. It will see my wifi and get on every once in awhile but within a minute or two it kicks off back to the edge network. When I do try to connect manually it will every so often but most times it says "unable to join network". If I keep on doing this about 5 or so times it will connect but like I said it will kick it off! What can I do? Any ideas? Thanks!

    I'm no expert and have no deep understanding of how radio frequency works but I have a few tricks that have helped improve wireless home connections of a lot of Uverse subscribers.
    1. Login to the GUI. Through a browser, go to 192.168.1.254.
    2. Access the wireless settings page and do the following.
    - Change your wifi name. This is really not important but it will simplify the reconnection process of your devices to the gateway.
    - Change the wireless channel (from Auto to something else). Usually, channel 9 works for me. This ensures that your devices don't interfere with all the other wireless devices operating on the frequency that your devices are currently using. (Unless the current channel is 9. Just change it to something else)
    - This is very important. Change the security type to WEP(-OPEN). Though it's still preferable to use the WPA/WPA2 security type, using WEP miraculously improves signal strength and range (and most of the time, speed). WEP is the simplest type of wireless security.
    - In connection to the previous step, make sure to use a 10-digit number as your password. Or any 10-digit combination limited to characters from 0-9 and a-f. Usually people will just use their phone numbers so that it's easier to remember. 3. Reconnect all your devices using the new Wifi name and password.

    If you haven't already done these steps, this section contains information that might help your situation, as the order and manner which you uninstall has an effect on the outcome:
    Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
    Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
    Let us know if following that article and uninstalling those components in that order helped the situation.

    When I'm on a site some times I get kicked off and a note comes up saying sorry. I was on Marlboro.com and I got kicked off 3 time so I went to Google Crome and I was able to finish what I had to do. I don't why I can't get a phone number from you guys so I can address this and find out it can be fixed or I'll use another browser and forget about Firefox.

    You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
    Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
    *Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
    Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
    "Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
    *Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

    A number of things could cause this.  Some things you might try:
    Power down iPad completely and restart.
    Delete Numbers from the iPad and redownload.
    If you've been using iCloud to sync with a Mac, then on the Mac hold down the option key in Finder and Go Library > Mobile Documents > com~apple~Numbers. Move the documents there to the Desktop (or another temporary location), give iCloud time to resync to all your devices, then move the documents back into the folder and let iCloud sync again.
