Router or ISP Connectivity Issue

I am trying to figure out if the problem I am experiencing is a router or ISP issue.
Whenever I upload a videos or photos to Snapfish or just view movie trailers on Apple's Website the connection just freezes. I do notice that I can still send and receive e-mail using AOL. It almost feels like when it is a lot a data going through or fast all at once, Safari or iPhoto just stalls. The only way I can fix this is to reboot the router.
I do not if this in relations to my connection problem. I notice in my router's security log it keeps listing the same entry several times:
"Wed Feb 24 22:50:21 2010 1 Blocked by DoS protection 73.158.212.1 "
I trace the IP to Comcast in New Jersey. I do have Comcast but I am located in Massachusetts? What is going on?? Is it something I should worry about or fix?

I doubt it's your router, but the easiest test is to connect to your cable modem directly and remove the router from your connection. Try a few tests. If you still see the same problem then it has something to do with the computer or with Comcast. In this case contact their tech support. If everything is OK then it may be the router.
The security log entry is reporting a Denial of Service problem. This is related to your ISP so you'll need to ask them about it. The location associated with an IP address doesn't mean anything worrisome since the IP belongs to Comcast.

  • Intermittent ISP connectivity issues with MacPro

I have been having an issue lately with Internet connectivity on my Mac Pro.  It is a 2011 3.2GHz quad-core intel Xeon running 10.7.5 (I've been trying to update to 10.8 but can't keep my Internet working long enough to download it).
The issue is, approximately every 30 seconds to 5 minutes network diagnostics switches ISP, Internet and server to red and all Internet on the computer stops working.  I am connected wirelessly.  For the record, I also have 2 MacBook Pros, an iMac, another Mac Pro, 4 iPhones, 2 iPads, an old G4 PowerBook, a Roku, and an Xbox connected to this router that aren't having any problems at all (the apple products are running a range of operating systems from 10.6-10.8).  However, this problem seems to have started when I switched to a new router (Netgear R6200), however it didn't start immediately after the changeover, but a few weeks later.
When the Internet IS working on this computer it's incredibly slow, but the problem is getting worse to the point that 75% of the time it doesn't work at all and I'm stuck using my iPad or MacBook Pro for anything Internet related.
I've googled around and can't find anyone with this issue, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Turn off Wi-Fi and connect to the router with an Ethernet cable. Does that work? If so, disconnect all other devices from the network and connect with Wi-Fi. Does that work?

  • Apple TV Router 104bits encryption connection issues with laptop

Hi, we have set up a wep-104 encrypted office Wifi (AppleTV with TimeCapsule router) N-band network, WPA2-PSK (AES encryption). Although I set it up as WPA2-PSK, on a wifi sniffer I ran its identified as wep-104 for some reason (104bits, that is).
This wifi has a problem with one of our computers, which uses an external USB wifi adapter, TP-Link TL-WN7200ND USB adapter,  and driver version TL-WN7200ND_WHQL_100730 (I also tried TL-WN7200ND_100513). This computer connects to all other wifis I can throw at it, 64 bit and 128 bit with no prpblems, so I know the adapter is not the issue.  After inserting the password, the adapter just "thinks" for a while and then just goes back to showing "X" on its icon (the computer is using XP but that is irrelevat I think). The adapter has the latest firmware and drivers. Is it possible to switch AppleTV to a more often used 128bit security (it could be this adapter just can't work with 104bit).
    Thanks

Update: if I choose an 8 character password for WEP Transitional security network instead of a 13 character one for WEP/WPA2 Personal, it works. Why is that? thanks

  • WRT610N/2.4GHZ Connection Issues

I have had this router for about a month and a half no problems to speak of.
From one day to the next the the 2.4 side of the router started having connection issues.
It has become extremely slow and unresponsive at times. I have unplugged the router. Did not help.
No configuration changes or environment changes within the house.
I have tried changing some of the options for the 2.4 side of the router. Still having the same issues.
The 5GHz works fine, I have had to switch several computers in the house over to the 5GHz side.
I have the version 1 of the this router and the most current ,firmware 1.00.03 B15.
All the computer on the network are windows based XP to Vista.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Try to do the following changes for 2.4GHz on the router...
Set the Radio Band to Wide-40MHz and change the Wide channel to 9 and Standard Channel to 11-2.462GHz and click on save settings...Under Wireless tab, click on Advance Wireless Settings,Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304 Change the RTS Threshold to 2307 and Click on Save Settings... Under Security tab...uncheck  "Filter Anonymous Internet Requests " and click on save settings...

  • IChat video connection issue, not related to router

I received a brand new 20" iMac Core 2 Duo just yesterday and intended to use iChat AV to video conference with my girlfriend, who has a 12" iBook G4 1.2GHz with an iSight and all system software up-to-date.
We both have DSL connections at home. We also both have wireless routers. The very first time we tried a video conference, it worked perfectly without a hiccup and everything just looked and sounded wonderful. At the time, she was connected wirelessly and I was connected both wirelessly and through Ethernet to my router's local network.
The second time we tried it (only a few hours later), seemingly without having changed any settings, it failed to work, and hasn't worked since. At first, we would get Error -22, saying something about how bandwidth is insufficient to maintain a video conference. However, I do not believe bandwidth is the real issue since all other network/internet tasks on both ends are spiffy as usual. We also both tried turning off Airport and just connecting through Ethernet to our routers' local network. Same problem.
To then determine if the problem was with one our routers, we both set them aside and plugged our DSL modems directly into our computers and connected to the internet with PPPoE. This appears to partially fix the problem: we are able to initiate a video conference, we both have audio, I can see her, but she can't see me; sort of a one-sided conference. On my screen, the image of myself freezes as soon as the conference is initiated. So unless I'm missing something, the ultimate cause of this problem doesn't appear to be the routers.
You can bet I tried a bunch of the common tips mentioned in this discussion forum before posting this question, such as changing the iChat port in the preferences, turning off Firewalls in the Sharing preferences and changing Quicktime streaming speed.
In summary, it worked once and hasn't worked since, and routers do not appear to be the cause of the issue. Does anyone have any further advice for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
    iMac 20" Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

First off I want to thank James for his willingness to help me test connections today. James has suggested I check into upping my Mother's connection. I will definitely look into that.
I wanted to update the thread that I tried the three test accounts at Apple (appleu3test01-3) and had success from all three on my home computer via my wireless configuration no less. This is what stumps me about my connection issues with my Mother - we can both connect to others but between us we get error -8's since iChat 3. I also find it odd that this is happening even though we are both Earthlink customers - I would chalk it up to routing tables or something if we were on different ISP's.

  • Load Balancing 2 ISP connections on Cisco Router

    Hi all,
I have a Cisco 3900 series Router with the following characteristics:
Cisco IOS Software, C3900 Software (C3900-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 15.0(1)M2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)
I have two VDLS connections, my ISP cant really offer good speeds, so we have two connections of 3Mb/s each. (2x3Mbps).
Each link has its own modem and we get a /29 on each connection.
I have setup NAT on the router, but i am trying to use BOTH connections simultaneously. This is causing an issue for me. At the moment i am not able to use one of the connections for some reason.
I have re-created the very same scenario i have LIVE at the moment, in packet Tracer.
NOTE: uploading .pkt files is not allowed here, so i have uploaded it to http://192.210.197.186/DUAL_NAT.pkt
When trying to ping from one of the computers in the LAN (192.168.1.0/24) to a Loopback address on Router 4 ( 31.7.57.1) for example, i have 50% packet loss. I assume this is because one 50% of the packets are being routed via each connection.
Is there a practical way to solve this?
Please note that i am using the same NAT statements in both interfaces connected to the ISP, same ACL for the NAT statements as well.
    Any advise is appreciated.
    Ezequiel

An additional Note: The PKT Lab was done with the Packet Tracer Student Version, not the normal packet tracer version. Anyone yet?

  • WRT54G Router - Internet connection issues using the Ipod touch

Ok, first - here is my setup. I've got the router hooked into the modem, with the desktop computer hooked directly into the router.  I've got my laptop running off wireless internet, and I've got an ethernet cable connecting through my laptop to an xbox for xbox live connection.  I recently just got an iPod touch, and I've come to realize that whenever I'm on the iPod, it messes with the internet on the desktop computer and on the xbox, but not the laptop really.. it makes the internet really slow, or sometimes it doesn't work at all, especially on the xbox.  Is there anything I can change to make these all work at the same time?  Or is this too many connections or what? Please help. thanx.
(running windows vista home premium, WRT54G router, pretty much beginner status, though I can follow directions easily : ] )
Also, the internet always works on the ipod, it seems as though the ipod is 'taking over' the internet.. it doesn't lose it while in the area, yet the other computers and xbox does at times..

You might be facing the problem, because the Ipod and your Desktop computer must be having the same IP address thats the reason whenever your IPod is connected to your Network, your Desktop must be getting disconnected. Check the IP address of your IPOD and of your Desktop Computer.
First thing which you need to check, if the Physical connections are done properly. Connect the Modem to the Internet Port of the Linksys Router and then Connect the computer to the LAN Port No.1. On your Desktop computer login to the setup page of your Router and click on the Status tab and check "Internet IP address"
If required you can Re-Set your Router and Re-configure all the settings on your Router from the scratch.

  • TS1317 Internet Connectivity Issue - specifically with the DNS settings

    Hi there,
I'm wondering if someone can help me resolve an internet connectivity issue on my MacBook Pro.
It appears to be a problem specifically with the DNS settings. I am connected to the internet but can only reach a website by typing in the IP address, not the domain name. The error messahe says: "Unable to resolve server's DNS address."
Regardless of whether I use Wifi, 3G modem or cable, i get the same error.
Operating System is Mac OSX Version 10.6.7
    Please help!
    Thanks

It sounds like your MacBook Pro has either incorrect or missing DNS IP address information in it network profile. Let's start with your wireless connection. You would find these in System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > Advanced > DNS tab
If your main Internet router is performing as the DHCP server, it would provide the DNS IP addresses (typically from your ISP) on this tab. You may have two or more addresses listed. If they are grayed, that means that the addresses are coming from the DHCP server.
In the following example screen shot, I am using DNS servers provided by OpenDNS. Notice that they are grayed as they are being provided by my main Internet router. Again, these should be either ones provided by your ISP or ones you purposely set up, like my OpenDNS ones.

  • New MBP wifi connectivity issues

Recently bought a new MBP about 2-3 months ago and I've noticed almost the entire time I've had it I have always had issues with the wifi constantly timing itself out. I know for a fact that this is not related to my router or ISP as I have other computers on the same network that don't run into these issues. This computer has also been tested with the same results on other wifi connections. I am currently using OS X 10.8.2 on a 15in, mid 2012 model. This issue is very frustrating. I notice this issue during everything I do from Online computer games (WoW) where the connection will just drop to basic web page browsing such as navagating to this page which was a task in itself. I constantly have to turn the wifi off and back on again to refresh the connection and to load web pages.

    Same problem, no solution yet!

What do you mean it did not work!  What were the results of the diagnostic tests?
Have you contacted your ISP to determine if the problem is on their end?
Have you changed your router channel?  Sometimes this resolves wireless problems.

Westel 7500 DSL Router/Modem: Cannot connect to PPPOE server
My DSL connection periodically slows down to a crawl [less than 56kbps actual transfer rate].
When I reset my DSL Modem it takes 30 MINUTES to 4 HOURS to reconnect.
The Main status screen shows DSL connected at 1700/448 kbps.
Advanced status WAN Status shows DSL connected but PPPOE not connected.
I cannot ping the ISP router or the DNS Server.

Margin (dB) - Signal to noise margin. 6 is pretty bad possibly unusable at times, 20 is very good. You normally want 12dB or better IIRC from back in my DSL days. The higher the number, the better to a point.
Line Attenuation - Measure the amount the signal has degraded. Below 20dB is excellent, above 50 is poor, fill in the dots for anything in between.
    Hmm...
#1 Did you try connecting your modem directly to the NID?
    Points to: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/1317
#2 If not, please do and retest those margins and Line Attenuation.

  • Constant Safari Connection Issues

I am having a lot of connection issues. It seems from reading here that others are having some of the same issues. I am running Leopard, just upgraded a few weeks ago. It didn't seem that the problems started right after the upgrade. I then added a back up drive for time machine. I have parallels installed as well.
The connection issues are not specific to Safari, although they do occur with Safari more than anything else. The errors I receive are "Not connected to the internet" or "server not found". This also occurs in Firefox and iTunes. I have checked my internet connection over and over and everything is fine. I can access all these same things with another computer.
In my diagnosis steps I have disconnected the router 'DLink DIR-655 and connected directly to my cable modem. Everything seemed to work fine using that method. However, I cannot keep it that way for obvious reasons. I have adjusted all the settings in my router, but nothing has helped.
I am currently in my XP shell withing Parallels using IE7 to write this. Interestingly I am having no connection issues within the Parallels shell.
Does anyone have any suggestions. At this point I am not sure what else to try.

    newslacker -
I have solved my problem. The problem started occuring after my upgrade to 10.5. The OS seems to be having trouble with the DNS cache. In network settings my routers IP address was set as the DNS. I added an additional DNS in advanced settings. I used my ISP's DNS to do this. Since I did it everything works great and the internet is back up to speed as well.
This is a Leopard issue that I fould in another thread. One thing led to another and it worked. I suggest you try the same.
