    I was having some problems with my mac, safari and itunes was freezing alot. I have to force shutdown and when I tried to start up again i get to the login page, type in my password and it starts to load, but then the screen turns blue for a few seconds and it goes back to the log in screen. What should I do?
    Please Help!!

    Somewhat similar problem:
    Put in the password, hit enter, the screen goes blue for half a second, then goes back to login screen and carries on logging in as usual.  Drives me mad.  It doesn't happen with a fresh Lion installation, nor if booted into safe mode.  On the machine in question it also happens to new user accounts.
    I've removed all login items, including Startup Items and Launch Demons (pun intended) and Agents, I've compared system login plists with a fresh Lion installation - can't see differences.  I've removed Little Snitch and PeerGuardian (no more third party kexts).
    @Carolyn: I've done disk maintenance with DiskUtility and fsck and even DiskWarrior, cleaned caches, etc. etc.
    Any ideas would be gratefully received.
    Sorry for trying to hijack the thread (as it's not about Lion), but it seemed dead anyway.

    Iv tryed this numerious times still keeps going back to pasword. Can not get any further. Tried restart holding shift key.. still nothing. What do i do?

    Thank you for your help.
    I couldnt get to the hard drive/ desktop. Soft login not even working. So i could not do any of that.
    In the end i took it to Apple and its actually the hard drive on its way out. A common issue with that series of Mac. Funny seeing i dont use this mac much. However being 2.5 years old and out of warrently, Apple have recognise this issue with this series/ Model and installing a new hard drive at no cost.
    Very luck and greatful. And not feeling so dumb that it was something i did or could troubleshoot myself.
    Hope this helps others that it just might be your hard drive failing.

  • How can I enable java applet plug-in and Web Start applications via terminal?

    Since the last Java update to Snow Leopard, I have found that the system periodically disables the Java applet plug-in after a period of disuse.  I know I can go to /Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences and just click to re-enable Java.  But I want to write a script which will do this periodically for a couple hundred Mac users where I work.
    My question is - how can I reenable the Java applet plug-in and web start applications via Terminal command?  Is this possible?  Is there a plist file that can be modified, etc.?
    Bob Reed

    It is my understanding that Apple's most recent Java update automatically disables Java after a certain period of time that it hasn't been used.  We don't want users to have to keep re-enabling it.  So we wanted to find a way to do this via script either run by a Casper JSS server or stored locally on each workstation.   With the guidance provided by Mark Jalbert above and some text from a script written by Rich Trouton, I was able to make a script (with some minor changes) and a launch agent to re-run the script upon login.  So the preference is always enabled.
    For your reference, the script content is:
    #!/bin/sh
    # DYNAMICALLY SET THE UUID FOR THE BYHOST FILE NAMING
    if [[ `ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c27-50` == "00000000-0000-1000-8000-" ]]; then
    MAC_UUID=`ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c51-62 | awk {'print tolower()'}`
    elif [[ `ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c27-50` != "00000000-0000-1000-8000-" ]]; then
    MAC_UUID=`ioreg -rd1 -c IOPlatformExpertDevice | grep -i "UUID" | cut -c27-62`

    The launch agent plist content is:

  • After Java patch 1.7.0_07 ENable applet plug-in and Web start checkbox is gone!

    Hello all,
    Using ML 10.8.1 and Safair 6.0
    After Java patch 1.7.0_07 ENable applet plug-in and Web start checkbox is gone! The check box to enable Safari to load Java pages is 100% gone, missing, just not there anymore.
    When I go to the Java test page it shows that I have Java 7 loaded. Has anyone else run into this problem or have a solution to enable true load loading in Safari and bring back the Enable applet plug-in and Web Start application check box in ML...
    Thanks

    I found out something very interesting. I noticed that another page would show up for less than have a second before the ML Java Preference would show up. I did a video recording of this and moved frame by frame. I show that the page / pane showing up had the following option:
                    Run applets:  in their own process
                                         within their browser process
    Both boxes for the two are unchecked.
    Then this page would disappear and nother would show up without the option / check box
    Enable applet plugin and Web Start applications
    Strange

  • Looking for a good Javascript to let me know if the "Enable applet plug-in and Web Start Applications is enabled" is disabled or enabled within Java Preferences?

    If this code could work on Snow Leopard as well, that would be awesome. I have a code to tell if Java is enable or disabled on any web browser, but it does not detect if the Java Preferences "Enable applet plug-in and Web Start Applications is enabled" is enabled or disabled. Just looking for a specific code to tell if this option is disabled or enabled.
    Thank you

    Launch Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences.app by double-clicking.
    EDIT; But I think you are confusing this with JavaScript which has nothing to do with it.

  • Copying wireless router password and settings to a new Powerbook

    I recently bought a second 15" powerbook after my girlfriend bought my former one.
    I bought a Lynksys WRT54G Wireless G Router and after some configuration, I successfully connected her powerbook to my DSL connection wirelessly. However I now am having trouble connecting my new PB wirelessly. I am a bit apprehensive about messing with setting a new password, etc, since I might mess up her wireless connection. I remember it took some time to set the router properly.
    Is there a way to copy, and or see, ALL of the settings that I configured in her powerbook for this Lynksys Router, so I can copy them correctly to mine?
    When I tried before, I had something screwed up because I kept getting different errors as I tried different settings.
    So I need to retrieve the PASSWORD and SETTINGS for the Lynksys Router from her BP and copy them to mine.
    Can anyone help with this?
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Thanks for that info.
    I will post this to the Airport section.
    The problem is that even after copying all of the settings from my girlfriends PB, including a long password starting with a $, my airport won't connect to the Lynksys wireless network. Airport is turned on (on my powerbook), and 'Ive chosen the proper wireless network with the proper password in network settings. I also added my PB Mac address to the Lynksys router when I was hooked up via an ethernet cable, but I still can't connect the the wireless network. I have both Powerbooks side by side. Hers connects wirelessly and mine doesn't.
    I'm missing a setting somewhere, I believe.
    Thanks,

  • How do i find out what my router password and user name is to set up a public ip camera

    i have purchased a wonderful ip camera and intend to use it to monitor my house while away.  works great at home on wireless devices however i am trying to access it when not at home and not on a wireless network. i understand i have to set up port forwarding but there is no manual with my verizon supplies router(surprise surprise) and i have no clue what the default username and passord aare to access my router! i have tried the recommended admin/password default they SAY is supposed to work with my acitiontec router....someone PLEASE help.  i have tried every possible way to obtain the info needed...its a shame verizon isn't very adept at their own equipment.

    It will use a lot of data, but based on what he said, it shouldn't matter: he has an actiontec router and is trying to reach the router admin page to forward ports.
    @LILSTAR34: you're in the wrong place, Verizon Wireless is the cell phone company, you need Verizon Telecom (www.verizon.com) for help with your landline. I don't know the default info for your actiontec router, I know for most consumer routers that *I* have played with, you can log into 192.168.1.1 using a default username/password of "root", "admin", or some variation thereof. If this doesn't work, you'd have to find out what the default information is for your router, probably by calling customer service (1 800 837 4966) until you get someone who understands your question and looks up the information you need.
    Incidentally, this is why I always advocate buying your own router instead of renting one from the ISP: this info is readily available on the internet for any half-decent consumer router (linksys, netgear, d-link, etc).

  • Trying to export from FCP 10.0.9 to YouTube, I get error message: no linked youtube account. It worked until yesterday, then stopped working. I tried changing passwords and accounts, but no help.

    This is the story. Up until two days ago, when I completed a video project in Final Cut  Pro 10.0.9, I went to file->share->YouTube and a window opened up that showed the name of my YouTube account - (e.g., account.name) which is the same as the name of my gmail account. I then clicked 'next' and was asked for the password for that account. Upon supplying that and clicking next/publish, the uploading began.
    Then suddenly, this procedure no longer worked. When I supplied the password, I got a message saying:
    'NoLinkedYouTubeAccount'. Following online advice, I changed my account name from account.name to [email protected] and supplied the password. Still no good. I then changed the password in that account and tried both ways again. Still no good. I then opened up a new gmail account with a new password and tried that both ways. Still no good. I've tried following other online advice but nothing works. When I go to youTube, I see both accounts listed so they are there but the link doesn't get made. I've tried uploading several different videos, but it makes no difference. The videos I've uploaded previously to YouTube are there and functioning OK.
        Help would be much appreciated!

    When I asked about codecs I was thinking of conflicts that FCP might have with one that would have been installed from a third party vendor…
    It would seem to be something at the system level since all the user-specific fixes appear to have had no effect. And you've already tried a comprehensive list of the suggestions that I would have thought of…and probably more.
    You didn't mention available disk space but I assume you checked that as well and you have at least 15% free on your start-up and media drives.
    Has any version of FCPX performed for you as expected in the past?
    When you uninstalled the app, by any chance did you use FCS Remover? If you didn't, give it a try.

    The problem seems to occur more than once but obviously nobody has a working solution for it. Perhaps someone in here can help me.

    Hello,
    it's a stupid eclipse bug. I spent several hours debugging the problem and it was surprised how poorly the code was written (no logging, exception swallowing, name shadowing, goddamn the author).Fortunately, I finally found a fix ;-)
    The problem is that the code relies on underscore as a delimiter between plugin name and plugin version. However, some plugins have underscore even in their version number (e.g. '...../org.eclipse.osgi_3.2.1.R32x_v20060919.jar') and these plugins fail to load. Not loading the org.eclipse.osgi causes the whole app fail to start.
    Quick solution tweaking the startup.jar:
    1. get the startup.jar sources from $ECLIPSE_HOME/plugins/org.eclipse.platform.source_x.y.z/src/org.eclipse.platform_x.y.z/startupsrc.zip
    2. open WebStartMain.java and find method private void mapURLsToBundleList()
    3. find this line: versionIdPosition = bundleId.lastIndexOf('_');
    4. replace it with versionIdPosition = bundleId.indexOf('_'); // it behaves as 'firstIndexOf(...)' ;-)
    5. build the startup.jar and use it instead of the original one - it should work
    IMPORTANT NOTE: this solution assumes you are not using any plugin with underscore in its 'regular' name. If you are, you can e.g. add some ifs to your modified WebStartMain code.
    Hope this helps ;-)

  • Slow InitialContext with Weblogic 6.1 and Web Start App.

    All,
    I have a Swing-based client app that makes EJB calls on a Weblogic 6.1sp2
    server. It works great as a standalone app run from the command line. The
    problem is when I deploy it using Java Web Start. The 'new
    InitialContext(props)' call takes from 5-20 seconds. This is on a single
    user development machine with the server and client running on the same
    machine.
    When I run it from the command line the initial context only takes 1-2
    seconds to create. This is using the exact same .jar file used in the Web
    Start case.
    The Web Start environment is somewhat different than command line clients.
    I think it is similar to the applet sandbox environment (security,etc).
    Other than this, the client/server interaction speed is good (they should
    be since they are on the same machine!). Any ideas?
    System particulars:
    Weblogic 6.1sp2. Native IO.
    Host=127.0.0.1 (Reverse DNS Lookup disabled in server).
    Java 1.3.1
    Java Web Start 1.0.1
    Windows NT 4.0sp5
    Thanks for any help.

    I have some more details. If I sign the .jar file and give the app AllPermissions, then it connects quickly (well, about 1s).
    Any ideas on which specific permissions will be needed to make this connection quickly?

  • Understanding Passwords and how Acer can help when you run into issues.

    A quick search on the community shows many issues related to forgotten or missing passwords. It’s clearly an issue all of us have experienced at some point in time with varying degrees of importance and frustration. In this article, I’ll provide a high level overview of common password types, what you can do to secure your password, and what Acer can do if you’re not able to get into your system.  In this article we’ll discuss three types of passwords;
    Hardware Passwords (BIOS and HDD Passwords)
    Operating System (OS) Passwords (for Windows, Android, etc..)
    Web and Application Passwords (Email, Instant Messenger, etc..)
    Hardware Passwords
    For the most part there are two types of hardware passwords that can be created on Acer products: A BIOS password, and a Hard Disk Drive (HDD) password. These passwords add an additional level of security before a user is allowed to load the operating system. These passwords can also be a liability due to the fact that if the owner forgets his or her password, the machine will not boot up and there are very few if no options available from the end user side to reset them.
    When to use a BIOS or HDD Password? – I personally do not suggest using these passwords unless you have a specific function that requires them, such as a business machine that may be accessed by someone not involved with the business.
    What can Acer do if I’ve lost or forgotten my BIOS or HDD password? – Acer has tools and procedures available to remove and reset these passwords. This process is only used within an authorized Acer repair facility. Contact your local Acer Service team to inquire about pricing and service options.
    Operating System Passwords
    An OS password is a password tied to an account used to access the operating system. The account is what you use to store settings and maintain some private data. These passwords have typically been stored locally but with the release of Windows 8, you can now use your Microsoft account to access your computer.  This would allow you to change or reset your password from another machine.
    When to use an Operating System Password? – An OS password is a great tool for anyone who shares a computer with others, and wants their own settings and configuration without having to share personal data.
    What can Acer do if I’ve lost or forgotten my Operating System password? – Proactively, Acer provides you with all of the tools you’ll need.  For pre-Windows 8 units, we have articles on how to create a password recovery disk (http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6770 ).  If you don’t have access to this tool and cannot access your system, Acer will recommend using the recovery options to restore the system (this will erase all data, so there are consequences). You can use Recovery Disks (http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12866) you would have made previously, or attempt to reload the machine before Windows loads (http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2631). For Windows 8 units, a Microsoft account can be reset by using another computer and visiting http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/forgot-windows-password.
    Web and Application Passwords
    Passwords used on the Web or other Applications such as email, instant messaging, Facebook, Twitter or online services are controlled by the company that provides the software or web interface. These providers have lost password features that will help you retrieve or reset your password.  Acer cannot provide any assistance with this process.
    What can you do to secure your passwords?
    I suggest everyone takes some time to learn more about passwords; a quick Google search for “a guide to secure passwords” provides numerous articles on how to create strong passwords and even some tricks to help your remember them. While I don’t recommend any one method, using what you feel is the best information from these resources, combined with others, will help you be secure.
    Another tool that is very useful is a password manager (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Password_manager). These help organize and maintain all of your passwords with one master password. The downside to this if you lose your master password it can cause issues for multiple services, so use it wisely.

    Brad.On Passwords.Does this mean, for Windows 7, that we need to leave our admin (Control Panel\User Accounts and Family Safety\User Accounts) password out when doing a complete restore back to factory, as well as our personal bios password? On the same line, our eRecovery Password, when to keep it in and when to take it out? I have noticed after a complete restore, that although my password is in everywhere else, under power options, to put a password in when yourcomputer awakes is left blank, that is my computers default power option setting, so I am prompted to change my password under user accounts.. Very confusing, please verify.Thanks.

  • Forgotten router password and username

    I have a router purchased in Spain model no TLWR841N.  I have forgotten/lost the password and maybe the username.
    Can anyone help talk me through how to find the password.  I was told to go in to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, but they seem just to tell me how to reconfigure.   I do not want to do this unless I really have to.
    I went in to Lynksys but it did not list the name on the router which seems to be Digistar I think.
    Can anyone help me.
    Thanks a lot

    Hi DorthyMorgan, it may be possible that you will have to reset the router to get it back to defaults and along with this, the device will also revert to its default password. Refer to the link provided by sabretooth. You will need to setup the router after the reset.
