Router RV180W: Firmware crash

                   Hi
I have a problem with my new RV180W, the firmware crashes after at few days.
The wireless SSID shows up, but connection fails.
The administration the web interface is not responding (wired interface).
Only a power down/up can resolve the problem. (for at few days).
I have tried all 3 availble firmware versions, with equal results.
I can replicate the fault quickly if there is much traffic on wireless LAN
My setup is:
WAN: Default with hardcoded ip-adress (No DHCP), NAT
Wireless: 20/40 MHz Channel 2, WPA2-PSK
Router DHCP server: Disable.
A number of Port mappings.
LAN: Intern adress of router is set to 192.168.100.254 Mask: 255.255.255.0
Most other settings is default.
Sincerely,
Jens C J Ballegaard

Hi jens, my name is Luis I am part of the Small business Support community. I apologize for all this situation you are having, this kind of issues could be related to performance issues, MTU size, CPU overload.
Well, I will advise you to keep your firmware 1.0.2.6, also you could try changing the MTU size using from 1450 to 1500 you can test some different sizes.
Let me know if those steps fixed your issue.
I hope you find this answer useful
Greetings,
Luis Arias.

  • RV180W Firmware Update

I saw a post with a response stating that a new RV180W firmware would be released by end of 2013.
It was part of the RV220W posts.  I can't find that post but we (community) really need a update that fixes these issues like 100% CPU, selective logging  ect....
It would also be nice if features from older routers could be added.
For example, I'm missing some of the logging features from my old WVRS4400N 1.1.13. Like having a firewall rule that you can check to have it logged.!
    For example:
    Oct 6 05:56:29 - [Access Log Log i7] Allow TCP Packet - 10.0.1.220:52450 --> 208.68.240.20:80
    OR
    Oct 5 06:50:27 - [Access Log 128higher] Deny TCP Packet - 192.168.2.130:62696 --> 17.149.36.208:5223
    Steve

    Steven,
I also remeber seeing this post.
I think the post was in relation to the Device Emulators which have been running 1.0.3.14 since before Christmas.
The Cisco response was the the new release was expected "by the end of the month" (December 2013). Now, another month on, there is still no sign of it (although there have been updates for other routers in the RV range).
As I've discussed on here before the RV180 is a great piece of hardware- however the support updates and bug fixes have been terribly slow. It certainly prevents this being the world class product you might expect from Cisco.
    Cisco,
Any updates on the next release and what it might address in terms of bug fixes and new features?
    Kind Regards,
    Andy.

  • IPod Nano Firmware crash, reproducable

I was recently given an iPod nano 4GB for my birthday. My review is here: http://megaphone.unixdaemons.com/?p=25
I'm subscribed to several podcasts. I use the latest version of iTunes on Windows XP. This morning I sync'd up my podcasts and there were two new episodes (I am subscribed to a total of 5 shows, and 2 shows had each a new episode). Before sync'ing up the iPod, I decided to do some cleanup.
Through iTunes, I cleared everything on my iPod (songs and podcasts). I noticed that although the podcast episodes themselves were cleared, the podcast show FOLDERS still existed on the iPod, but were empty.
After some playing around, i noticed that if you have at least one empty podcast folder (I don't know why iTunes doesn't garbage collect empty podcast folders?), the iPod nano firmware boots up, and you can browse the high-level menu items EXCEPT FOR MUSIC. If you click on the "Music" high-level menu item, the firmware crashes and the Apple logo appears on the nano screen as it resets itself. If you try to just hit "play" without entering the Music sub-menu it actually does play and you can skip forward and backward. But the moment you try to browse the Music sub-folder, the OS crashes.
My workaround is, since I have 5 podcast show folders on the iPod, to keep at least ONE episode from each in each folder, and this works just fine, although my iPod now stores some old shows, taking up some space, even though I've already listened to them.
    Help?
    Cheers,
    Bosko.

So I called Apple Support and apparently the problem has not yet been reported but while talking to the service rep found a more viable workaround.
The bug seems to be that if you have Podcast episodes in iTunes that you drag over to your iPod, the first time you do so, a directory underneath the "Podcasts" category on your iPod will be created to store episodes for the given show. If you then go ahead and highlight each episode within that show's folder on your iPod with iTunes, right-click, and click on "Clear", you'll notice that while the episode disappears, the empty directory FOR THAT SHOW will remain within "Podcasts" on your iPod.
And that's where the problem is. The iPod nano firmware seems to crap itself when you then try to access the "Music" top-level menu item if there is at least one empty podcast show directory on it.
The workaround to not waste any space is to access the iPod via iTunes, and instead of clearing individual shows, right-click on the podcast show's folder itself and click on "clear", this will properly get rid of all the episodes within that show AS WELL AS THE SHOW'S FOLDER.
Hopefully someone will fix the firmware bug in the future. For now, this is how to deal with it.
    Cheers,
    Bosko

  • Streaming audio and/or video crashes your router BEFW11s4 firmware problem

Ok!!! Apparently some of us have had the problem where trying to stream audio and/or video can cause the Linsys BEFW11S4 to crash, where only a power down and re-up will retore communication. Changing the MTU size has been suggested ad-nausium. I hope this works for you all, because it worked for me.
Apparently the latest firmware is the problem. I just installed an older firmware version and problem solved (1.50.14).
    ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pub/network/befw11s4_v4_v1.50.14_code.bin
So, looks like maybe Linksys could hopefully issue another firmware update that fixes this (we hate having to use old firmware... trading off one bug fix for other multiple bugs that may rear their ugly head later on).
list of bugfix history found here:
    http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?blobcol=urldata&blobheadername1=Content-Type&blobheadername2=Content-Disposition&blobheadervalue1=text%2Fplain&blobheadervalue2=inline%3B+filename%3Dbefw11s4_v4_v1.52.02_ver.txt&blobkey=id&blobtable=MungoBlobs&blobwhere=1130824460891&ssbinary=true

    Hi all -
This looks like this will fix the issue I have with my router. I'm willing to try it, anyway.
My question is pretty basic: What do I do after I download the file?
    Thanks, Kate

  • Download and Install RV180W Firmware Upgrade

    I received a warning when I accessed the router site which indicated;
    "Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from 192.168.50.1 (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards)."
I have downloaded the firmware upgrade.  However, when I execute the file, it executes a command to burn file to my DVD drive.
    When allow the command to proceed, window returns the following;
"The selected disc image file isn't valid."
Any suggestions on how to proceed with upgrading the firmware.

    Hi,
Please follow the procedure mentioned below to proceed with upgrading the firmware
    Upgrading Firmware
    Cisco RV180/RV180W Administration Guide
    Upgrading Firmware
CAUTION During a firmware upgrade, do not try to go online, turn off the device, shut down
the PC, or interrupt the process in any way until the operation is complete. This
process takes about a minute, including the reboot process. Interrupting the
upgrade process at specific points when the flash is being written to may corrupt
the flash memory and render the router unusable.
You can upgrade to a newer firmware version from the Administration > Firmware
    Upgrade page. To upgrade:
STEP 1 Click Browse, locate and select the downloaded firmware, and click Upload.
STEP 2 (Optional) Check the box to reset all configuration and settings to the default
values. Do not check this box if you want to keep any settings you have changed
    on the router!
STEP 3 Click Start Firmware Upgrade. After the new firmware image is validated, the new
image is written to flash, and the router is automatically rebooted with the new
firmware. Choose Status > System Summary to make sure the router installed the
    new firmware version.
    And then to reboot it
To reboot the router, choose Administration > Reboot Router. Click Reboot.

  • RV180W firmware 1.0.5.4 DHCP lease problem

Yesterday I upgraded my RV180W to firmware 1.0.5.4. Today the only machine that we have with XP can't get a DHCP lease (we have some 20 machines that can that all have W7 o W8.1). Also none of the iPhones nor Androids that connect via wifi get leases either and thus have fallen back to 3G.

    Hello,
First of all I want to say that I'm sorry you are experiencing an issue with the device after the firmware upgrade.
Now, we have tested this device with the new firmware on our lab and we are not experiencing the same issue, which leads me to believe this may be an issue with your particular configuration or network topology.
We would love to have the opportunity to troubleshoot this issue on the Small Business Support Center. If you are still under support with the device, give us a call and we will be happy to assist you.
If you are not able to or are out of support, then please provide as much information as possible in regards to your current configuration as well as network topology, maybe a detailed network diagram could be helpful to so that we can have a better idea of that the issue could be.
    I hope this was helpful.

  • Firmware crash on cisco 1310 Bridge while upgrade to higher version

    Dear experts,
My cisco 1310 Bridge old firmware C1310-K9W7-tar.123-8.jea3 is crash while i try to upgarade to the higher version C1310.K9W7-tar.124.10b.jda2 via HTTP service upgrade, any advise to get back the firmware.
    rgds,
    woo.

It appears that you are assigning IP address properly. For some reason we are not getting a response from TFTP server. This is typically one of 2 things:
    1. Firewall on the TFTP server workstation
    2. Connectivity issue between AP and TFTP server
I would check firewall settings on the TFTP workstation. Are you connecting the AP to the workstation directly or through a switch? If it is through a switch, you could plugin a different workstation to the AP switchport to make sure it could reach the server as well.

  • WAP121 Buggy firmware : crash with firmware greater than 1.0.0.3

    Hello,
I have more than 10 WAP121 devices and everything was fine before I upgrade a few of them to firmware greater than 1.0.0.3.
After 2-3 days the upgraded devices just crash and doesn't respond to ping. I have to reboot them each time. I'm using POE catalyst to power them.
It would be nice to sort this out or to give us the possibility to download the factory firmware 1.0.0.3 not available on the download section.
    Best regards,
    Mathieu

Depends on hardware i think.. i dont really know why. i have cases that, using FW 1.0.3.4 AP has been up since 17days without issues, but in this case using 1.0.3.4 too wont last more than 5 hours using it.

and as a personal opinion i don agree with removing SSH access, and grater versions of FW than 1.0.0.3 wont allow that anymore due to "security concerns".

  • How do I Update my Router's Firmware?

I downloaded the firmware file for my Wireless Linksis router (WRT54GS V7) because I'm having issues with the router resetting itself while I play games, but I can't figure out how to install it.  The default program that wants to open the firmware file is VLC (a media player).  What should I do?
Edit: I'm trying to re-download the firmware file to see if that helps but now the download links aren't even working... what's going on here?
Edit 2: I'm also trying to read the FAQ because it looks like they may already have an answer for my question but the answer page there isn't loading either.
Is the site undergoing maintenance or something?
Message Edited by Crazy00Eyes on 11-10-2008 05:55 PM
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Turn off your anti-virus and firewall. Try it again.
Connect the computer directly to the modem. Try it again.
    Try a different computer.
The Linksys download website is working fine. Whatever is not working is on your end.

  • WRT54Gv.5 new firmware crashes when airport card is used, after changing beacon interval

That basically says it: resetting the beacon interval to 50 and the RTS and fragmentation interval to 2304 worked beautifully for a week - and then, bam, we were right back where we started - namely that every time our new macbook joins the network (otherwise occupied only by a hp dv1000, running xp), the network crashes and i have to unplug the router, wait, and plug it back in to get the network back up again.
    Hoping someone can help me!
    thanks
    rachel

    hi carrot,
i hope you see this! i reset the values on the router which you told me to, and everything was great for a week, but then suddenly the network started going down again, two or three times a day, usually within 20 mins or so of the macbook airport joining the network.
do you have other recommendations? anyone else?
    again, many thanks!

  • Failed to go through WRT54G v3.1 router after firmware upgrade

    Upgraded to latest 4.21.1 firmware.
After upgrade I don't have access to internet anymore through the router.
    Symptoms :
    - Router has access to internet : ping OK, DNS resolution OK
    - Router has access to home PC (both wired and wireless) : ping OK
    - home PCS can ping router
    - home PCS can't go through router to internet (ping and DNS resolution won't work)
Seems like the "forward chain" is forbidden in the router (I'm using linux iptables "forward chain" meaning here).
    Any ideas ?
    Tx
    David

Yes, connecting the pc directly to the modem works fine (that's how I posted this message). Reconnecting/reconfiguring have been done __a_lot_of_time__ before going to this forum.
I've finally installed DD-WRT and everything's working fine now.

  • Netcomm N4 Router issues keeps crashing

I am onto my second Netcomm router. First one kept on dropping out the DHCP settings, second one causing issues as well. Customer support is poor so I thought I'd put it out there to see if anyone else has had issues and how to resolve them.
I have two Macs attached via ethernet cables to router. One G4 on Tiger the other G4 on Panther. The settings keep dropping out. I set up the G4 just now,in network it allowed me to set up using DHCP but when I went to set up G5 it will only let me set up manually.
On the router at http//:192.168.1.1 I have set DHCP setup to distribute ip address's from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.234 however they don;t seem to hold- I have keep re-entering everything over sometimes daily. I also have UPnp selected as I use ichat (this helps open ports that I originally had problems with). On the Upnp it has Connection 0 as selected.
What else do I have to do to make it so that I can configure both macs for using DHCP on the router and how do i make it so that it stays instead of dropping out. When it's working it runs great?
Any feedback would be so appreciated!!

I updated the firmware on my wireless router (wrt310n) yesterday and now I am having major issues connecting my laptop to it via wireless.  After the update, I reset the router as well as unplugged the power source.  Once the update and everything was reset, I re-entered all my settings and set the computers back up using the LELA.  I go to change the laptop to wireless and it says it can't connect to it.  I did the LELA update on the laptop thinking that would fix it, but it didn't help.  However, the whole time I am able to connect to the router using a ethernet cable.  I turned off all of the encryption settings, firewalls, and broadcasted my SSID.  I searched this forum for some help and one topic suggested somethings, which I did, and I was able to connect wirelessly with the encryption.  I thought I was done and set-up, until later that evening.  I turned the computer back on only to see the same problem again.  I decided to deal with it the next day (today) by uninstalling LELA and just using Windows to configure my wireless settings.  As soon as I uninstalled LELA, entered the key into the Windows program, it worked like a charm.  Until tonight, when I turned on the computer.  Now I'm connecting to the network wirelessly, but it says "Limited or no connectivity."  Acting like there is no encryption key entered.  I go to "View Wireless Networks" and it says "WIndows cannot configure connection.  If you have another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software."  The thing is, I don't have another program on here to manage a wireless connection.  Sorry for the long post.  I figured if I didn't type everything out, people would have just asked me questions.  I had no problems with this router until I did the update yesterday.  If it can't be fixed, is there a way to revert back to the old firmware?  Thanks in advance.

Well you should adjust the Wireless Settings on your router...
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbours network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP, Encryption should be 64 bit.Leave the passphrase blank, don't type in anything...
Under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please(numbers only and no letters eg: your 10 digit phone number) and click on save settings...
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the Wireless Network...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75 >>Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304, Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 >>Click on "Save Settings"...
Before you attempt to connect to your wireless network you should first check your Programs menu if there is any Wireless Program(like 'Intel Proset' , 'Dell Wireless WLAN' , or anything that gives you a clue of a Wireless Program/Utility/Software)...You should use the Wireless Utility/Software(if any) to connect to your wireless network and not the Windows default Wireless Program to avoid any conflicts...

  • Getting 2811 router latest firmware

I need to get the latest firmware for a 2811 router but I am unable to download it. Can someone advise the best way to get hold of this can I just contact a local Cisco reseller n Monday or is it more complicated than that?

As of today, no new maintenance contracts can be bought for ISR G1 routers.

In any case the best approach for anything related to Cisco, is to always work with a reputable consultant, or certified Cisco partner.
