Router turns security on for no reason

I have a BEFW11S4 V2 router, with latest firmware, and no security set up in a household of one wired wesktop and four laptops (including an additional WUSB11S4 v2 connected new HP desktop)
For no reason I can see, it sometimes turns its security on, not allowing additional wireless access. If any of the original laptops are disconnected, they can't reconnect either.
The router security turns off and goes back to normal when all PCs , Cable Modem and Router are turned turned off and on again.
Thx Steve

Why do you think that your router is suddenly getting "wireless security" turned on?
Since you run an unsecured wireless network, perhaps your neighbor is playing tricks on you!   Teens love to do this.  They get on your network, guess your password (is it still admin? or something else that is easy to guess?), then log into your router, and boot everybody off!
Alternatively, you could be loosing connection simply because your unsecured computers are getting confused, and trying to connect to a neighbor's unsecured network.  Let me guess - your SSID is still "linksys".  Am I right?
Another possibility is that your neighbors' networks, or your own 2.4 GHz devices, are interfering with your wireless signal.  This would include wireless 2.4 GHz phones, Bluetooth, wireless baby monitors, wireless mice or keyboards, microwave ovens, etc.
At a minimum, you need to assign your network a unique SSID, and secure your router login with at least a 12 random character password.  Unless you live far (at least 1000 feet) from your neighbors, and far from public roads, you also need to set up wireless security.  If you can, change the channel that the router is using.  Channel 1, 6, or 11 usually work the best.  Also, unplug any wireless 2.4 GHz devices that you have (other than your network devices), and see if that corrects your problem.
Actually, to set up wireless security correctly, you will need a new router.
From the user guide, it looks like your current router can only do WEP.  WEP can be broken in less than 5 minutes, using software tools that are available over the internet.  You really need to be using WPA or preferably WPA2.
If you don't get a new router, and if nothing above fixes your problem, then you should update your firmware to the latest version.
Hope this helps.

Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

  • In my Itunes music listings, the letters are turning bright red for no reason I can think of?

In my ITunes music library, the listings are turning black to bright red for no reason I can think of. I'm using an older 32-bit windows 8.1 pc with a HDTV as monitor. This first started happening 2 months ago.

  • 2014 Macbook Air turns off intermittently for no reason.

Several days ago my Macbook Air started completely shutting down randomly, even if I've got 95% battery. It doesn't go through a shutdown cycle or anything, just suddenly a black screen. I'm usually able to just turn it back on but there have been a few instances where I can't get it back on. The only way I can get it to come back on after that is a combination of dumb luck and endless SMC resets. It seems that I don't have this issue when the laptop is plugged in to the charger.
From my perspective it seems as if there's a software issue. The battery is fine and the charger works fine. It almost seems as if somewhere along the line the software screws up and for whatever reason thinks that the battery is dead, which would explain why It doesn't happen when I'm running off of an external power source.
Any suggestions on how to keep this from happening?

  • My iPhone 3GS just turns itself off for no reason

My iPhone turns itself off randomly for no reason. It only turns back on once I start charging it again. It will turn itself off sometimes if the battery is quite full or quite low so there isn't a set pattern as to when it happens. Its quite annoying if im not at home as I cant get in touch with anyone then.
I think I need a new battery but does anyone know any different? Has anyone else had the same problem at all?
    Cheers!

Try resetting it by holding the home and power keys down until the Apple logo appears.

  • I am connected to my wireless router which is secure.  For some reason I keep bouncing to another network presumably within range this network is not secure.  I have gone back in and clicked on the lock in order to lock it down to my secure network no lic

I connect to my secure wireless router network...while idle it connects to an unsecure network which is weak...I have to continually go to network selections and reconnect to my wireless router network.
I have locked it down hoping that would help maintain my connection but it continues to happen.

You should have an airport tab.  Post a screenshot of your Network window like the one above.

  • Can someone please help me with my security.  For some reason when I go to download from my itunes account, apple is asking me to verify my ID by asking me questions that are simply not relevant to me.  How do I change the questions?

When I go to download from my iTunes account, it has started to say that I have to verify my ID.  When only last week I was able to download ok.  The questions it asks me are not relevant to me and I need to know how to reset the questions.   For example, it asks who is my favourite teacher?  I am over 50 years old and have not been in a classroom for almost 40 years, so I would not have ever answered a question like that in the first place as I would not know a name of a teacher.  Any clues anyone?

  • HP client security looking for fingerprintscanner that isn't there.

Whenever I want to log onto my laptop I have to wait for the fingerprint scanner software to say that my fingerprintscanner isnt there. After that notification I can just log on with my password. My question is: how do I get the software to stop looking for a scanner and take me to the normal login screen immediately?
Extra piece of information: if I run the HP client security app I always get the final screen of initialization and cannot change any settings.
A lot of thanks in advance!

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
Keep in mind that I don't own a business notebook -- I don't run your flavor of Client Security software although I am familiar with the security software that runs on the consumer HP notebooks.
Please do make sure you have the means to log into your computer prior to removing the program.
    A couple of ideas:
    Before you make any changes:
Create a Restore Point:   Create a Restore Point – Win7 OR  Create a restore point Win8
Caveat:  Windows 8.1 does include its own Native fingerprint Logon software that is NOT dependent on Client Security software.  Removing the Client Security program does not affect the Windows Native Logon software.  Should that software exist and be active on your system, it must be handled differently.  You might easily dissuade both the Client Security and the Native Logon
Windows key >>type anywhere on the screen  pc > Click on PC Settings >
            Accounts > Sign-in options
If PC Settings does not stop Client Security from bugging your trip:  If you are not interested in using the Client Security software -- for whatever reason -- then I should think that you could uninstall the program from your computer from Programs and Features.
If you do not have an extra admin account on the system, you might consider adding one -- you don't need to USE the account -- but it might "save your backside" down the road.  You do not want to be the one who writes in and says, "I am locked out of my computer!"
Create a User Account with Administrative Privileges – Windows 8-8.1
Reminder:  An extra admin account will not protect you from the lockup of the bootup BIOS password that happens to so many people.  Locking the BIOS at boot usually only locks out the owner, by the way.  Smiling.
Once you uninstall any program, Restart / Reboot the computer -- even if the system does not insist upon the reboot -- and log in.  Windows loves a good reboot!

  • Satellite P10-804 - powering down for no reason

I have a problem where my laptop suddenly turns itself off for no reason at all. Most of the time it turns itself off as the top left hand corner of my laptop get really warm and it also gets warm around the area where you insert CD's. Although, sometimes, it can just go off after Ive only had it switched on a few minutes.
Some suggestions tell me there could be a problem with either the cooling system or the fan.
Please can anyone offer me any advice or suggestions?!
Please help as Ive only had the laptop around 18 months now and it surely shouldnt be doing this should it?

    Hi
I think you already are on the right track. 18 months is a long time collecting dust so it might just be overheating. Check the air-intakes for dust.
I've seen suggestions to use a vacuumcleaner to suck dust from the intakes - I will not recommend this myself since there is a chance the fan might be damaged, but it could be a way for you.
    Good luck
    Tom

  • Why do I have to use security code for wifi router each time I turn on iPad 3?

Why do I have to enter wifi security code for my router each time I turn on ipad3?  I have checked all the settings I could but is this a router problem?

If you're hiding your network SSID and/or using WEP security, I think these can cause this problem.  If you're hiding your SSID, there's really no point in doing that since there are ways people can easily see it if they're looking to do harm anyway.  If you're using WEP security, consider changing to WPA2 which is much more secure than WEP.
