Router User ID/Password to install Open DNS

I'm trying to install Open DNS on our router, and I'm being asked for my router User ID and password.  I've tried the Network ID and password (wireless LAN settings) as well as my Verizon User ID and password.  Neither worked.  How do I find out my router User ID and Password?

The default is the user "admin" and the password is the serial number of the router (which can be found on the sticker on the bottom of the router).

  • Forget router user and password

    Dear All,
I forget my CISCO1921-SEC/K9 and cisco 1941 routers user and password. So I want to reset my router. I have tried by following method, but did not success. Every time ask user name and password for User Access Verification. Pls. help me.
    Method1:
I am tried to factory reset by press reset button. Did not work
    Method2:
    1) Connect via console to the device
    2) Power on the device
    3) Hit ctrl+break until you are in rommon mode
Type confreg 0x2142 at the rommon 1> prompt in order to boot from Flash.
This step bypasses the startup configuration where the passwords are stored.
Type reset at the rommon 2> prompt.
The router reboots, but ignores the saved configuration.
Type no after each setup question, or press Ctrl-C in order to skip the initial setup procedure.
Type enable at the Router> prompt.
You are in enable mode and should see the Router# prompt.
    Thanks,
    Qamrul

    thank you for provide link.
i tried but failed. now i need to try by following method. but i don't know how can i remove flash from router and what is step?
If unable to break into ROMMON mode, perform these steps:
    Remove flash.
Reload the router. Router will end up in ROMMON mode.
    Insert flash.
Perform standard procedure for password recovery.

  • My lock screen just shows a black background and a User Name/Password dialog after opening the screen from sleep. How do I get it back to where it blurs my desktop image with the dialog and my account image displayed?

I'm not sure when it began, but now my Macbook Air only shows a black background and a User Name and Password dialog box when I wake it from sleep. It used to show my desktop background blurred with my user name and icon displayed with only a text field for entering my password. I'm currently using Yosemite (OS X 10.10.1) and all updates have been done. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I know this isn't a real problem, just an annoyance since I couldn't find how to change it back in the System Preferences.

I just have to point out that after looking at a related post (https://discussions.apple.com/message/22661092#22661092), it brought to memory that my issue most certainly began happening after I added some DoD certificates to the keychain. This obviously has something to do with it, but it still leaves me wondering what actually causes this to happen. :/

  • I installed Open DNS and can't disable or eliminate it . Its terrible! How can I get rid of it?

They say on their Website I must contact my ISP for assistance.

You need to set other DNS servers on your computer to remove the OpenDNS servers.

  • ISP Reporting Open DNS Resolvers

I have a WRV210 in stalled at a remote client, it is set to do a point to point VPN tunnel to the company office (Windows server) another 210 at the other end.
Behind this specific unit are 2 Windows workstations(XP). The client just received the following email from AT&T:
AT&T has determined that a device using your Internet connection is configured to run an open Domain Name System (DNS) resolver. A DNS resolver was observed answering public queries at Jan 7, 2014 at 7:06 PM EST at the IP address X.X.X.X. Our records indicate that this IP address was assigned to you at this time.
Open DNS resolvers can be used for network attacks, presenting additional load on your Internet access and resulting in unreliable service.
An open DNS resolver allows users on the Internet to perform DNS requests on your server. This is considered an insecure configuration and in the majority of cases, Internet subscribers should not operate an open DNS resolver. The open DNS resolver may be present due to a default operating system installation or system configuration issue. In some cases, network devices such as home wireless routers have flaws that expose DNS service to the Internet.
To address this problem we ask that you take the following actions. If your computer(s) are managed by an Information Technology (IT) group at your place of work, please pass this information on to them.
If you use a wireless network, ensure that your wireless router is password-protected and using WPA or WPA2 encryption (use WEP only if WPA is not available). In addition, ensure that the router is not configured to provide open DNS services (consult the manual for your specific hardware). Check the connections to the router and ensure that you recognize all connected devices.
If your environment requires you to run an open DNS resolver, please limit access via an ACL, rate limiting, or another method to minimize abuse of your server. Visit http://www.team-cymru.org/Services/Resolvers/instructions.html for additional technical information on preventing abuse.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. We welcome your feedback and questions on this matter. Please contact us at [email protected] with any questions you may have.
I have no port forwarding setup nor do I have any port triggering. The workstation is not setup in the DMZ, the inside network is setup as 192.168.1.x
Can anyone point me in the right direction to resolve this?
    Thank you.

My brother uses the Cisco WRV210 for his home wireless network and he has the same issue.  He received the below warning from his ISP.  The ISP provided this link http://www.thinkbroadband.com/tools/dnscheck.html to run a DNS check for this issue.  I have reset the router to factory settings and upgraded the firmware but it did not resolve the issue.  I have checked that all of his devices are clean of viruses and malware to the best of my ability.  Even my own laptop, which is fine with my own home network, reports of this DNS resolver issue when I run the dnscheck when connected to the WRV210.  This issue is beyond my knowledge and expertise.  His ISP has terminated his service twice already as a warning, each time having to demand to have it restored.  As a result I reinstalled my brother's 10 year old D-Link router and although it is noticeably slower, it does not exhibit this problem.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated!
Please be advised that we have received a report that your provisioned IP address is operating as an Open DNS server permitting unrestricted Recursive DNS Queries from anywhere on the Internet.
Open recursive DNS resolvers; have been used to generate an increasing number of extremely large reflective DDoS attacks, without needing a large number of infected hosts to launch the attacks.
Additional risks of open recursive resolvers include resource consumption by outside users without your consent, and, perhaps possible cache poisoning from outside entities.
For more information on the problems associated with Open DNS Recursion and assistance in remediation this threat, can be obtained from the site below.

if you are not running a DNS server and are using a home gateway or router, it may be possible the router is running a DNS server. Usually, the DNS server should only be accessible to the computers inside your home, however if configured incorrectly, it may make the DNS server accessible to the entire Internet. If you suspect your router may be the cause of this activity, we suggest contacting your router manufacturer's support desk for assistance in reconfiguring your router.
Please note that each end user is responsible for the security of their computer system while connected to the network and thus is ultimately responsible for network abuse that is conducted through such configurations. Failure to take the appropriate measures to prevent network abuse through your internet account may result in a service interruption / account termination.

  • What is the user and password to Oracle 8.17

    Dear expert,
I have loaded IDES 4.7 with Oracle 8.17.
I wish to query the SAP table using Oracle PL/SQL.
What is the user, password and string to login into SAP Oracle database? Since I was not asked for user and password when installing Oracle I do not know how to login.
Also can you let me know how to view/change table fields in SAP tables. I understand there are different ways but which in your opinion is the easiest to find the record I want to correct(as some tables have many fields).
    Your kind assistance is appreciated.

Thank you for your reply. Both the user and password does not work on my IDES 4.7e system.
However I tried with user Internal and without password and I successfully login.
I then create a new user and also change the user=system
    password.

    =================================
    A couple of important points.
First, the listener is a server side only process. It's entire purpose in life is to receive requests for connections to databases and set up those connections. Once the connection is established, the listener is out of the picture. It creates the connection. It doesn't sustain the connection. One listener, with the default name of LISTENER, running from one oracle home, listening on a single port, will serve multiple database instances of multiple versions running from multiple homes. It is an unnecessary complexity to try to have multiple listeners or to name the listener as if it belongs to a particular database. That would be like the telephone company building a separate switchboard for each customer.
Additional notes on the listener: One listener is capable of listening on multiple ports. But please notice that it is the listener using these ports, not the database instance. You can't bind a specific listener port to a specific db instance. Similarly, one listener is capable of listnening on multiple IP addresses (in the case of a server with multiple NICs) But just like the port, you can't bind a specific ip address to a specific db instance.
Second, the tnsnames.ora file is a client side issue. It's purpose is for address resolution - the tns equivalent of the 'hosts' file further down the network stack. The only reason it exists on a host machine is because that machine can also run client processes.
Assume you have the following in your tnsnames.ora:
    larry =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myhost)(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SERVICE_NAME = curley)
)Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
$> sqlplus scott/tiger@larrytns will look in your tnsnames.ora for an entry called 'larry'. Next, tns sends a request to (PORT = 1521) on (HOST = myhost) using (PROTOCOL = TCP), asking for a connection to (SERVICE_NAME = curley).
Where is (HOST = myhost) on the network? When the request gets passed from tns to the next layer in the network stack, the name 'myhost' will get resolved to an IP address, either via a local 'hosts' file, via DNS, or possibly other less used mechanisms. You can also hard-code the ip address (HOST = 123.456.789.101) in the tnsnames.ora.
Next, the request arrives at port 1521 on myhost. Hopefully, there is a listener on myhost configured to listen on port 1521, and that listener knows about SERVICE_NAME = curley. If so, you'll be connected.
    What can go wrong?
First, there may not be an entry for 'larry' in your tnsnames. In that case you get "ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified" No need to go looking for a problem on the host, with the listener, etc. If you can't place a telephone call because you don't know the number (can't find your telephone directory (tnsnames.ora) or can't find the party you are looking for listed in it (no entry for larry)) you don't look for problems at the telephone switchboard.
Maybe the entry for larry was found, but myhost couldn't be resolved to an IP address (say there was no entry for myhost in the local hosts file). This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe there was an entry for myserver in the local hosts file, but it specified a bad IP address. This will result in "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"
Maybe the IP was good, but there is no listener running: "ORA-12541: TNS:no listener"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, but it is listening on a different port. "ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error"
Maybe the IP was good, there is a listener at myhost, it is listening on the specified port, but doesn't know about SERVICE_NAME = curley. "ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor"
Third: If the client is on the same machine as the db instance, it is possible to connect without referencing tnsnames and without going through the listener.
Now, when you issue a connect, say like this:
$> sqlplus scott/tigertns will attempt to establish an IPC connection to the db instance. How does it know the name of the instance? It uses the current value of the enviornment variable ORACLE_SID. So...
    $> export ORACLE_SID=fred
$> sqlplus scott/tigerIt will attempt to connect to the instance known as "fred". If there is no such instance, it will, of course, fail. Also, if there is no value set for ORACLE_SID, the connect will fail.
check executing instances to get the SID

    ERROR:
ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specifiedOk, that is how we get from the client connection request to the listener. What about the listener's part of all this?
The listener is very simple. It's job is to listen for connection requests and make the connection (server process) between the client and the database instance. Once that connection is made, the listener is out of the picture. If you were to kill the listener, all existing connections would continue. The listener is configured with the listener.ora file, but if that file doesn't exist, the listener is quite capable of starting up with all default values. One common mistake with the listner configuration is to specify "HOST=localhost" or "HOST=127.0.01". This is a NONROUTABLE ip address. LOCALHOST and ip address 127.0.0.1 always mean "this machine on which I am sitting". So, all computers are known as "localhost" or "127.0.0.1". If you specify this address, the listener will only be capable of receiving requests from the machine on which it is running. If you specified that address in your tnsnames file - on a remote client machine - the request would be routed to the machine on which the requesting client resides. Probably not what you want.

  • Stealth mode connection attempts?  Reason for Open DNS in router settings?

Console is giving me repeated messages (many times per minute) that read
"Stealth Mode connection attempt to UDP xxxx  from 208.67.222.222:53"
That's a little scary to the uninitiated!   I've done some rummaging here and across the net on this.  I understand little of what I found or how to stop this.  I understand that the 208.67.222.222 is Open DNS related.  I was glad to discover that as I originally thought some malicious computer somewhere was trying to gain access to my MacBook Pro.  I thought I'd delete the DNS servers to see if that would help, but they are greyed out in the Preferences--Network--DNS panel and cannot be removed.
From what I've investigated, those Open DNS servers are set in the router.  I know how to change or delete those, but maybe I shouldn't.  In fact, maybe someone can remind me why I put them in there in the first place (years ago).  I vaguely recall some advantage to using Open DNS (faster?), although I'll confess that, of late, too often mistyped web addresses go to an Open DNS page, which is a nuisance.
In any event, I'd like to do something that would stop the stealth mode "attacks".  While I'm sure I could ignore it, maybe it's eating up some browser or network time.  It also seems odd that it would go on and on!

Thanks for some info on this.  Should I only see it then, when I'm in a browser?  Or, when wi-fi is on?  I'm assuming that the Mac may be checking what time it is, although it seems a little too frequent for that!  (3 times a minute?  Well, maybe that's about right, but then Apple and Open DNS should coordinate so that this message doesn't show up.)
    I did find this:  http://forums.opendns.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=1785
Does that make sense?  It's completely benign?  And doesn't waste CPU cycles?
One problem with all this stealth mode logging is that it fills up the Console message window!  It thus means that there is gobs of stuff I have to wade through to see if there really is something going on from the outside!
I did find two oddballs in there (I don't think they were open DNS as they weren't 208s), so the firewall is doing something.

  • Airport Extreme with ATT Router for Open DNS use

I'd like my whole home network to have a filter on it so all computers and hand devices are protected. I get my internet with an ATT router which I can not change the DNS servers. ATT says they can not be changed. But I have an airport extreme directly connected to the ATT router. The extreme supplies wi-fi to the house. I can not change the DNS settings in the extreme. They are grayed out. I'm assuming it has something to do with the connection to the ATT router. Does anyone know how I can put a DNS address in the extreme?
Some of the settings on the extreme are:
Internet Tab: connect using DHCP, DNS Servers "grayed out", Domain Name "grayed out"
Network Tab: Router Mode (off (bridge mode))
    thanks!

Does anyone know how I can put a DNS address in the extreme?
Not sure what you mean that you cannot enter the DNS numbers on your AirPort Extreme configuration page.
Open up AirPort Utility and select the Internet tab
Look at the first DNS entry there. There should be a cursor at the beginning of the DNS Server Box. If not, click to set the insertion point at the beginning of the box.
Simply start typing in the DNS server number that you want to use.....208.67.222.222...... and it will overwrite the grayed out values there.
Do the same for the second DNS box....208.67.220.220.
Click Update at the lower right and you are all set.

  • Using Open DNS etc with a Verizon and secondary router

I have a Airport Extreme Base Station setup in Bridge Mode to the Verizon router. How do I add  or replace the DNS server to Open DNS etc?

You need to set your desired DNS servers in the Actiontec since that is your DHCP server.  When the AEBS is in bridge mode, its DHCP server is disabled.
    Login to the Actiontec
Click on the My Network icon
Select Network Connections from the left menu
Select Broadband coax or Broadband ethernet as appropriate.
    Click on Settings
Across from DNS Server, select "Use the following DNS Server addresses" from the pulldown.
Enter the primary and secondary DNS Server addresses for OpenDNS.
    Click Apply.

  • Boot Camp users using XP via Boot Camp, Can you install Open Type Fonts? 2

I have written this post as a continuation of the following archived thread, which has never been solved.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1778497&start=0&tstart=0
Have any of the Boot Camp 3.0 users that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?
I have now tried this on two new MacBook Pros, and I have tried three different retail versions of Windows XP on each system. It just does not work.
I keep getting the "Unable to Install Font" message, which suggests that I contact the font vendor, which I have. I have also tried many different versions of different fonts.
From the many complaints and troubleshooting in my original thread, we know that this is definitely an issue with Boot Camp, which prevents users from installing Open Type Fonts, specifically from Adobe.
Has anyone else experienced this with Boot Camp 3.0?
    Thanks!

The fix for this can be found here:
    http://www.thomasphinney.com/2008/12/no-font-instal/
It's a simple registry edit. It resolved the issue for us on both nVidia and ATI iMacs running XP in Bootcamp.
    Here's the relevant excerpt:
+Nvidia says the problem occurs on Windows XP only, and Vista users are unaffected, but at least one Vista user has reported they had this problem and the fix resolved it. It affects multiple NVidia cards, and some (unspecified) ATI cards. The fix, posted by David Ingraham in a horribly lengthy thread on the Adobe User Forums, and in a post by “PixelNinja” on the NVidia forums is this:+
+— start of email from HP —Good news. Nvidia has identified the problem and provided a fix. The way it was explained to me, Windows expects the device driver to be a certain size (maximum). In this case, the nvidia driver is slightly larger than expected. A simply registry entry will resolve the issue in WinXP (the issue doesn’t occur in Vista). To resolve the problem, do the following:+
    +Open the registry editor (regedit)+
    +Navigate to+
    +HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management+
+Add a new REG_DWORD entry called SessionImageSize with a value (decimal) of 20+
    Reboot
+The Type 1 fonts should now open/install without any problems.+

  • Boot Camp users using XP via Boot Camp - Can you install Open Type Fonts?

Have any of the Boot Camp 2.1 users that have been using Windows XP via Boot Camp been able to install Open Type Fonts, i.e. fonts that are sold by Adobe?
I have now tried this on two new MacBook Pros, and I have tried three different retail versions of Windows XP on each system. It just does not work.
I keep getting the "Unable to Install Font" message, which suggests that I contact the font vendor, which I have. I have also tried many different versions of different fonts.
After having investigated with Adobe and Microsoft, and after having reinstalled Windows over 6 times on two different new MacBook Pros, I am starting to believe that this issue affects all new MacBook Pros and/or Boot Camp 2.1 users.
For some points, could someone please try to install an Open Type Font in Windows XP, and let me know if you are successful?
    Thank you very much!

Experiencing the same from a fresh install of Windows XP on Boot Camp 2.1.
Tried 2 different scenarios. Installed Windows XP, Boot Camp Drivers, Open Type Fonts. Received an not a valid font file when trying to install. Installed Windows XP and then the Open Type Fonts. All fonts registered and accessed by the operating system without the Boot Camp Drivers. Installed the Boot Camp Drivers and checked the fonts, received error messages accessing fonts.
Pretty sure its the Boot Camp Drivers that are causing the problems with Windows and the fonts. Hopefully there is an updat to address this issue.
