Router works but still no internet?

I can pick up my wireless network on my computer but it does not connect to the internet. The internet works though when i plug it directly to my computer. any suggestions?

Please state the following:
1)  your ISP
2)  the model and version of your router
3)  the make and model of your modem
Also, connect your computer, by ethernet wire, directly to your modem.  Verify that your Internet connection is working, then do the following:
Go to "Start" > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
A black DOS box will appear. Type in "ipconfig /all" (with no quotes), then hit the Enter key.   Post your results.

  • Hi there can anyone help. I am connected to the internet by ethernet but my connection keeps timing out and my network diagnostics shows all green and network connection ok but still no internet connection. the other wireless laptop in my flat works well.

Hi there can anyone help. I am connected to the Internet by Ethernet but my connection keeps timing out and my network diagnostics shows all green and network connection ok but still no Internet connection. the other wireless laptop in my flat works well. Could the other wireless laptops being used in my flat be affecting my connection. what can I do to get connected, keep connected. Thanks for any ideas out there.

My network connected for a few hours then went back to timing out. I have not changed anything. However there four additional laptop users in my family who do not seem to be having any problems using their wireless connection. Could their film and music downloads be causing the timing out of my connection and if so is there a way I could prioritizes my computer or limit their use?

  • Router working but wireless stopped

Hi, I been using my WRT54G with no problems for 2 years now. Last night I lost wireless. I have 1 pc wired to the router and it works fine, e-mail, accessing the internet, everything. But I have 6 wireless devices ( 2 PCs, a printer, Nintindo 3Ds, a laptop and a nook) that use the wireless part of the router at different times. Anyways, last night, one of the wireless PCs lost connection, not seeing the router. Then I checked with each of the other wireless devices. None of them see the router. I tried many different things: powering down the router for two hours, hitting the reset button for 30 seconds, I even uninstalled the router and re-installed it and ran the setup-wizard. Again the pc I have wired to the router works but none of the wireless devices can see the router. What do I do next?

I beive you need to manully change some wireless settings on the router and that may help you.....So try the following steps.
Come to wired pc which is online.....Click on start....Go to run....type CMD...Enter....a black window will appear...Type ipconfig....You will get a ipaddress and a default gateway....
Open a internet explore page....and in the address bar type the default gateway (i.e http://192.168.1.1 )....hit enter... it will ask you for the user name and pasword....enter the password "admin" click OK.....it will take you to the setup page of the router....click on the wireless tab and the network mode should be Mixed , change the network name SSID , change the channel to 9 or 11 and the SSID broadcast should be enabled...
If you want to make the network secured...then click on wireless security tab under wireless and change the security mode....make it wpa personal and enter any password in wpa shared key box... the password should carry atleast 8 characters...then save the settings... and then go to wireless device and try to find the wireless network name once you find the network enter the password that you created and then you can join the network.

  • Just got a new iPad 2.  64 GB.  It will connect to wifi and facetime works, but email and internet won't connect.  Suggestions?  Thanks!

Just got a new iPad 2.  It is 64 GB.  It will connect to wifi no problem and facetime works, but email and internet won't connect.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks!

If facetime works, then the internet IS connecting.

  • I've tried it all but still slow internet

I've been suffering from very slow connection speeds for months now. At first I thought it was my DSL ISP so I switch to Comcast HSI and it's a little faster but still nowhere near acceptable. I just got off the line with Apple support and I was stunned by the lack of imformation I received! My Apple Care subscription was a total waste of money. So I'm hoping someone here has a nugget of wisdom that will help me out.
    Here's what I know:
HSI line out of modem is good. Plugging a PC into the same modem and cable gets 7mbps download speeds. My dual 1.8 G5 running 10.4.3 gets around 850kbps with the same cable and modem.
Problem exists whether I use Airport or ethernet. I am currently using ethernet to the modem to keep things simple.
I've zeroed out the drive and reinstalled the OS. (not fun)
    I've trashed all caches.
I've tried with and without DNS addresses in the network preferences.
    Flushed Safari and reset Safari.
Firefox and Explorer get the same slow speeds.
Logging in as new test user gets same speeds.
    Tried lookupd -flushcache in terminal
Tried with and without Broadband Optimizer
    Ran Onyx
    Ran Disk Warrior
ipv6 on or off no difference. Currently off.
    All proxys are off
Reset modem, unplugged all cables, zapped PRAM, unplugged and replugged a thousand times.
    Repaired permissions at every update.
There is more but I can't remember them all...
I'm hoping this rings a bell with someone and they remember how they solved it. I love Apple and I've been Mac-Only since around 1998 but I'm really disappointed with their support performance today.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    David

Yes that is indeed slow and inline with your previous testing.
Couple things, you have dual 10/100/1000 ethernet ports in that computer right? I am not familiar with the insides yet to know if they are built-in's or if they are on an expansion card.
It is not likely that the PC laptop and your Mac are using the same brand of ethernet chips so there is an avenue for testing. Nor is it likely he may also have had gigabit ethernet capable ports.
The cable-modem wouldn't likely be a gigabit ethernet equipped unit but its worth checking its specs.
What I would want to do is three fold.
    1. The ethernet ports on devices are usually auto-sensing for speed. However problems do occur in networks with some devices not playing well together in the sandbox so we have to force one or more of the devices to use a specific speed and what the call a duplex setting.
If for sake of an example that comcast modem only had a 10 megabit/second half-duplex port for you to plug in, if your computer was through auto-sensing goof-up talking 100 megabit at full-duplex duplex or 1000 megabit at full-duplex ethernet or even 10 megabit at full-duplex to that device you have communication error. At the correct speed but wrong duplex setting you can end up with framing errors and late collisions with devices.
    2. You have dual network ports most likely on your computer. It would be worth a test to see if you can disable/shut one of them down and let the OS only have to handle the one.
    3. If you have a plug in expansion card with ethernet on it, it would be worth a test if the two you have are built-ins and still not working. Also, and much easier would be to see if a friend or work has another Mac you can use for one day as a test to see if it works. If it does, that pinpoints it to something specifically unique about your computer, not the OS, still perhaps a setting in the OS, but I would focus more on the hardware differences (your network controllers). If you use the same cables and it works on the other Mac then you've eliminated that as well.
Hopefully lots of new ideas to ponder.
I also have some commands you can type in that can speed up your maximum throughput on the internet but while they can give you another 100-200KB/sec on downloads, we need a working base connection.

  • Router works but not harddrive

    Hi,
I have recently bought a Airport Time Capsule and it's been working on and off on our different devices.
Would really appriciate some "pro advices" on the problems I'm having.
Here the router works fine and it's connected to the internet, but I can't seem to connect to the harddrive as a shared unit in finder. I have tried to make a copy of the harddrive and that works but everytime I click on the Time Capsule icon in finders left menu under shared, finder disapperas and the comes back after one second like nothing happened.
    Thanks in advance
    Erik

I just need to check you are actually on Mountain Lion and not upgraded to Mavericks??
In finder did you tick all the network options in preferences. Network drives do not show unless you make them.
If you have all of that right..
Start over.. the TC can be a painful little beast..
First thing is a simple reboot.. unplug the TC, count to 10.. plug it back in again.
    Does it show up now??
No luck.. do a full factory reset..
When you redo the setup use all names that are short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric for everything..
See C9 for why this is important.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Try again mounting the TC hard disk..
    No luck.. manually mount.
In Finder, use Go, Connect to server and type in the address thusly.
AFP://TCname or TCIPaddress (you can use either.. name is better .. do not use IP if it is bridged as the IP can change.. if it is the main router then IP works ok).
The computer can hopefully find the TC.. and will ask you for a password.. by default it is public. Store it in your keychain so the mount is easy next time.

  • Unable to work with songs.  Says computer is not authorized, it is.  Have tried deauthorizing and then reauthorizing, that works, but still get the msg that computer is not authorized.  What to do?  Thanks!

I have an older pc with itune songs on it.  Trying to burn to disk.  Tells me that the computer is not authorized to do this, it is.  Have tried de-authorizing it and re-authorizing it and I'm able to do that.  Then if I try to authorize it, it says it already is, but still won't allow me to work with my songs, still says not authorized.  The songs I'm trying to burn were purchased from the itunes store, but don't show up on my purchased songs on my new iMac, not sure how to find them.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

    Thanks for trying to help!
Tried it without much success though.
Looked good at first. I was able to unauthorize it and after rebooting all I went in under "store" and authorized it again, witch it did without a hassle.
But, when I had restarted everything again and tried to sync with me iPhone I still got "Part of the programs in the iTunes library, for instance 'yadda-yadda-app' was not installed on the iPhone unit 'The name of my iPhone' because you are not authorized for them on this computer. You can authorize this computer for purchases by choosing store - Authorize this computer"
(Translation to english might include minor errors...
So... Any other ideas on how to sync my iPhone with my iTunes?
(Oh, and my iPhone has never been jailbroken or anything like that.)

  • Macbook Pro 10.7.5 internet will not work. HELP!!! Ethernet and WIFI both say connected but still no internet.

I have a macbok pro running 10.7.5. My internet has always worked on it but I decided to try changing my router set up - the set up didn't work so I reverted back to the original setup that had previously worked.
Now, I have an Imac running tiger - I can connect to the internet via WIFI or Built In Ethernet with no problem.
When I try to connect to the internet on the Macbook Pro running osx 10.7.5 my internet will not work
Safari Says (You are not connected to the internet) and Google Chrome says (Page is Unavailbe) and lists some trouble shooting options that I tried.
When I go to System prefrences > Network my WIFI and Ethernet both say "Connected" and have a green light next to them.
I have tryed deleting the connections and starting new ones and I have even tried deleting the Location and starting a new one.
Nothing works - no matter what I do, even know the WIFI or ETHERNET says Connected, the internet will not work on the Macbook Pro.
The Internet works fine on my Imac and I have tried everything such as swaping cables but there doesn't seem to be a problem with my internet
or with my router - it all works fine with my Imac running Tiger.
Can anyone help me get my internet working on my Macbook Pro again? Any ideas?

    Hello ASGR.SYS amd WahWar,
I tried both of your suggestions and neither of them worked.
ASGR SYS - When I tried it your way i got a message saying that the that the diagnostic couldn't repair the problem. It shows the thw WIFI, WIFI SETTINGS, NETWORK SETTINGS, ISP, all turn green. But the Internet and Sever stay red. The thing is, there is nothing wrong with my internet connection as I can connect to the internet on my Imac running tiger, both through ethernet and wireless. When I go to System Prefrences and Ntwork the WIFI and ETHERNET both say "Connected" even know I can't veiw any websites.suggestion
When I tried WAHWAR's suggestion I get a message that says cannot connect to the WIFI network and then it lists your typical trouble shooting tips. Like Make sure you entered the right password and make sure you are in range of the wireless network
Again, just to confoirm - My internet connection is working fne both the WIFI and the Ethernet. When I use it on my IMAC running tiger, everything connects as it should and it works perfectly. But when I try to connect with the MacBook Pro, Even know the connections in the Network settings window show up as "connected" the MacBook still seems to think that my internet connection isn't working at all.
I have tried creating new connections, creating new locations, and I have even gone as far to reset my router and start completely from scratch. The result so far has been the same - the IMAC running tiger will connect - my blackberry and iphone will connect - but the macbook pro running lion will not connect..
    I'd apprechiate any other suggestions

  • Connected, but still no internet

I can often get internet on my ipod touch while i'm on my college campus. but this week, i've been having trouble. i can connect to the wi-fi network, but safari still does not work. it only shows blank webpages and gives me a message that i'm not connected, though the symbol at the top shows i have perfect connection. i've tried restoring it, no good. i've tried connecting to other wi-fi networks, but it still does not show. any application i have on my ipod touch which needs internet connection does not work for me. is there anything i can do to fix this? i tried to contact apple support, but they recommended i purchase some kind of support option, which i prefer not to purchase.

There's a couple of simple things you can do to try to get this working again.
When you are connected, tap Settings > WiFi and then tap the blue > next to the network name. You will see your IP address which should be anything but 169.x.x.x. If it is 169.x.x.x, you are not actually connected to the network as you have not received an IP address from the router. So, some simple things to try:
    1) Turn WiFi off. Turn it back on and try to connect to the network. Look at your IP address again.
    2) If you appear to be connected and your IP address looks OK, tap on DHCP, scroll down, and tap on Renew Lease
    3) And finally, reset your network settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. After your iPod restarts, connect to the network and check your settings again.
If the network you are connecting to is one that you control, reboot your router as well.

  • Jetpack890L is up and running but still no internet

I work Chelsea Manhattan and we lost both our phone and internet when Sandy rolled through.
Verizon sent us a Jetpack 890L to connect to EuFI890 (that's what the sticker says) to help us get back online, but it simply doesn't work.
Maybe we're doing something wrong, but here's what happens.
Whenever we turn the device on, it claims to have full bars and does appear on our computer's list of wifi connections. We can connect to the network and everything appears to be going smoothly. The device says it is connected, the computer says it has a full bar connection to the device and also says we have internet access. However, when we go to our browser, there is no connection. It simply loads until it times-out.
We've tried resetting the device as well as rebooting the computer and disabling wifi multiple times, but every time the same thing happens.
Is there a way to resolve this?

        Hey there hetijanm,
I am glad to hear that after Sandy that you're doing alright! That's what we care about most! Secondly, we want to make sure to give you the best service possible. Now, was this Jetpack on your account? When you received the device, did you activate it on the network? It sounds like you've done all the proper troubleshooting and it does not sound like it's the device. We would want to take a look at the network and your account to see if there was anything further we could do. Please reach out if you're still having issues.
    Thanks!

  • Everything connected...numbers are right...BUT STILL NO INTERNET!

Okay previous to my last problem....i have a new one!
we've changed routers (netgear was the one we had a couple days ago...i did something that messed up everything..internet and phone...so my dad had to get a new one..)
    so we now have linksys
    everything is connected
    ip address - 192.168.1.100
    subnet - 255.255.255.0
    router - 192.168.1.1
    dns - 192.168.1.1
when i click to the internet....still wont work!

I would not have recommended a Linksys router. They are notorious for having connection problems with Apple products.
Even though this is a new router, please look for a firmware update for it. These things sit on the shelf for months and often several generations of updates have been issued.
If your touch had all the right IP address displayed and typing in that IP address didn't get you to Google, there is still something messed up somewhere. Either Mac address filtering is on or your iPod is very sick. You need to go somewhere to try and connect to a different network to rule out a hardware problem with the touch.

  • Airport connects, but still no internet activity...

Heya. This is my first post so be gentle with me.
I've recently had an issue with my Powerbook G4 12 inch where I could connect to an open wireless network (no WEP password) and my internet would function fine, until the past three days when Airport says it's connected but I can't browse the internet, use BitTorrent etc.
Now when I open Firefox, it doesn't go immediately to a "page cannot be displayed" dialog, it just keeps looking for the page for a few minutes. Also, when I run network diagnostics, everything is green until "internet".
I don't have access to the modem or router base station.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I just posted my own experience in the forum "internet, networking and Power Mac G4" which is the same as the one of nofryzone. In that discussion, I think Lawrence Kahan has the answer to our problem. I will still have to try his proposed solution because it will entail changing the firmware of the linksys wrt54g router. In order to connect, I asked the help of [email protected] and they made me configure my airport connection manually placing the values that Lawrence Kahan wrote in his post. You will have to open system preferences and click on network. Configure Airport settings manually and enter the IP address 192.168.1.55, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, router 192.168.1.1. For the DNS server, you will have to get the value of DNS1 & DNS2 of your router and put them in the field for DNS server.
At least for now I am able to connect but through a static IP address and not through DHCP.

  • Airport extreme flashing amber but still have internet

My airport extreme is flashing amber but I still have an internet connection. Should I be concerned?

When I opened Airport Utility, it gave me a message that firmware needed to be updated (to 7.6).  However, clicking on continue or search for update (can't remember exactly what the option was), the utility searched endlessly for the update. I'd read on a previous discussion about unplugging the AirPort Extreme for 10 seconds. I did this while the airport was stuck in search mode. Sure enough that worked.

  • Adsl wont work but still seems connected.

Hi, I am not sure if people have encountered with the kind of problem before, I tried everywhere to search for this issue but not a single article was helpful. I am using Arch i686 with mate desktop, I have configured an adsl connection on that using "pppoe-setup". I am encountering a unique problem on my machine, When I connect to the Internet using pppoe-start the network seems to connect fine and it runs fine too, I use torrent client (Transmission GUI) to download torrents so I keep my machine running for days.
But the problem seems to be odd, when I sit on my machine after say a period of 10-12 hours or so my network seems to be up and running fine even my torrent client seems to be running good sending and receiving packets out and in respectively but, If I open any of the browsers install on my machine for eg. Opera and Firefox they won't connect at all as if I have no network for that matter my other applications won't connect either like smplayer ...  When after that I disconnect my network by command pppoe-stop and then again reconnect it using pppoe-start the network connects and runs fine on everything. This sort of problem got to my attention after I upgraded my machine some days back...
If anyone can tell me whats wrong with my machine thanks.

    Hello,
Since your other torrent client still send and receive packets, that means your network is functional.
My guess would be your DNS resolver, or your service provider's DNS server is down.
In a nutshell, DNS translates names(e.g. www.google.com) to the actual IP address(e.g. 74.125.128.99).
If DNS server is down, your computer can still communicate using IP address, but not via domain names,
which is why your browser wouldn't work if you enter a website.
When you encounter the problem again, try
    $ ping -n 4 www.google.com
    and
    $ ping -n 4 8.8.8.8
As a reference, if the command is successful, it should show something similar to below
    $ ping -n 4 www.google.com
Pinging www.google.com [74.125.128.103] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 74.125.128.103: bytes=32 time=29ms TTL=49
    Reply from 74.125.128.103: bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=49
    Reply from 74.125.128.103: bytes=32 time=22ms TTL=49
    Reply from 74.125.128.103: bytes=32 time=33ms TTL=49
    Ping statistics for 74.125.128.103:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 22ms, Maximum = 33ms, Average = 27ms
You should have at least one reply to call the ping successful.
If the first command works, then it would be your browser's problem.
If the first command fails, but the second one works, then it's DNS server/resolver problem.
