Routers, apache, dsl, problems

I have been running linux as a server for a couple of years, and just recently I have had trouble keeping the same ip address. I have yahoo sbc dsl connected to a linksys BEFSR41v2. I run ssh, ftp, and http, but every time someone accesses http from the outside, the wan ip address of the router drops, and restarts, thus allowing no one to view the webpage. This seemed to happen about the same time i upgraded apache to 2.0.50, and as soon as I upgraded my modem to a higher speed, I don't know if that affects it or not but I have never seen this problem before. Does anyone know what the problem is? Has anybody had the same problem? If so, what do I need to do to fix it?

in the past, before i upgraded connection speed, i was running all of the services successfully. just recently did the connection not allow port 80.

    Safari/DSL Problem
I’m having a problem with my home DSL network when I hookup a 5.8 GHz digital cordless phone/answering system. Safari will not pull up my home page when I plug in the answering system my SBC DSL network stops functioning. My Mac network consists of an E-Mac running OS 10.3.9 hard wired thru Ethernet cable to an Asante FR1004 Internet router. Also connected to the Asante Router is the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. The Asante Router is hooked up to the SBC to Speedstream 5100 Ethernet ADSL Modem, which is hard wired to the phone line. I have 3 phones hooked to the phone line each phone has a DSL Filter model Z-330P2J. Any would be appreciated.

Hi ccrushe, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
1] The answering system must have a DSL Filter on it.
2] Move the answering system to a different room, ie, away from the computer.
Try BBR, Broadband Reports / SBC general Forum, or ATM = All Things Mac.
    Good Luck. JP

  • My Time Capsule does not recognize internet after DSL problem. I can hard wire my computer but cannot get TC to do wireless.  How do I reset?  I have unplugged for a reboot but the amber light is flashing.

I had a problem with DSL service provider.  They have corrected their problem but now, I can only hard wire into my desktop for internet access.  If I plug in through the Time Capsule, I get no wireless service.  I unplugged the Time Capule and rebooted but now the amber light is blinking tellimg me that it cannot access internet.  So, I have hard wired back to my Mac and need to know how to get the Time Capsue to recognize the internet when I plug into it.

Start with a factory reset and do setup over again.
If the DSL modem is working as router.. which will be the case for most people then the TC must be in bridge mode..
    The Factory Reset.
    Power down the TC.
Hold in reset. and keep holding it in. Be Gentle! It is a tiny surface mount switch with a plastic lever.. Attempting to push it out the other side of the TC will not make the switch turn on better.
(I fix TC and have several reset levers bent over and jammed or broken off).
Power on the TC.. remember with the reset held in.. this needs three arms.. a friend or power switch you can get to with your feet..
Keep holding in reset for about 10sec until the front LED flashes rapidly.
Release reset and wait .. the boot will be slow as it deletes previous setting.. only from router side and pulls out the factory defaults. No files are deleted on the hard disk.. but the name of the TC may change.

  • Apache FOP Problem with column width

We are using Apache FOP to generate simple pdf documents out of reports.
My problem is that the table in the pdf is as standard filled in with columns of same length.
Further on the content of some table fields is to large or sometimes there is to much room.
is there any possiblity to let fop react like html?
The smallest table field size should be like the content. I don't want to adjust all my reports, cause there are really many reports with pdf printing.
anyone an idea how to solve this with FOP?
i have no BI pubisher or other reporting engines for this problem
    thx so far

    Oliver,
I think what you're looking for is having your column width automatically adjusted based on the content of your column values. That is not possible with the built-in, generic XSL-FO template. What you can do is manually adjusting the column width to appropriate values on the print attributes page.

  • Apache mod_proxy problem.

    Hi.
We use an apache 1.3.19 webserver with mod_ssl 2.8.3 as a front-end to an application server WLS 5.1 sp 6. The application server is accessed with the apache module mod_proxy. We also use the apache plug-in for WLS mod_wl_ssl.so
When upgrading to apache v. 1.3.24 and mod_ssl 2.8.8, the pages accessed with mod_proxy show up as "page not found" whereas the pages accessed with mod_wl_ssl works fine as before. Is this a known problem? and is there a way to upgrade apache and still use the mod_proxy module in apache?

    1. You wrote: "all Safari files in the Library are gone."Can you be more specific? Which files? Which Library directory (there are several directories with the name Library).
    2. Are you running any Safari add-ons? BY this I mean third-party applications which are designed to add functions to Safari or expose hidden functions in Safari?
    3. Using Get Info, verify that you are the Owner and have Access of Read & Write on the following folders:
    • Your Home > Library folder.
    • Your Home > Library > Cookies folder.

Check the Details sub-panel of the Ownership & Permissions panel of the Get Info window for each of the folders above. If you find you are either not the Owner, or do not have Access of Read & Write on those folders, make changes accordingly using the pop-up menus in the Details sub-panel,

  • Apache DNS problems when control terminal closes

So, I'm having the weirdest problem. I log in to my Mac OS X Snow Leopard server (10.6.4) using SSH. I sudo -s to root and then I run "apachectl start" to start the HTTPD server. Right, no problem here. It starts and serves webpages without a problem.
Right, but then I log out of SSH and my Apache Error.txt log files start filling up with this:
*could not lookup DNS configuration info service: (ipc/send) invalid destination port*
Up until a point where the server stops responding. Googling a bit found this page: http://lists.apple.com/archives/unix-porting/2010/Jul/msg00001.html that doesn't concern Apache but clearly says that loosing the control terminal ended up messing up the process DNS requests. Since this doesn't concern Apache I'm unsure as to how I would apply his solution to my problem. As far as I know - "apachectl start" will start httpd in the background as a daemon. What am I doing wrong here? It worked fine with Mac OS X server 10.4 which I upgraded from yesterday. I also upgraded from httpd 2.2.4 to 2.2.16 - maybe there is something in the httpd.conf that I need to adjust this upgrade change?
    Anyone has any idea?

I am not running the built in server, but rather a server I've compiled myself...
There is little that I can provide for you here for a resolution, short of access into and digging through and debugging the (variant) Apache environment involved here, and what may turn into a whole lot of time and thought. The port is (obviously) missing something, or Apache has an incompatibility or a bug, or the build or system environment has an incompatibility or a bug.
What can go wrong in these cases is chosen from a large set of potential weirdnesses.
Start by searching for existing reports of that diagnostic (and any potential resolutions), and then by looking for differences between the Apple Apache environment and what you're working with, and then work your way into debugging the server.
Or switch strategies and implementations entirely, and revert to the in-built Apache server, or switch to MAMP or some other pre-built server for Mac OS X, or switch to an OS that has the Apache configuration you're looking for.

  • Two WRT54G routers One DSL Connection?

Thank you for reading my request.
Situation:  I have one Internet connection and I have need of two networks.  One filtered with OpenDNS and the other unfiltered.  I have a Speedstream DSL router provided by ISP for connecting to Internet.  I have two WRT54G's and would like to utilize them to form two networks.  The Speedstream is a router with a gateway address of 192.168.1.254.
From that Speedstream (only one network plug) I would like to go to a 5port switch.  From that switch, I would like to configure the two WRT's to be two different networks (one using OpenDNS settings for filtering) with one having a 192.168.1.x address scheme and the other (no Internet filtering) having a 192.168.10.x scheme.  Both would have DHCP enabled for their networks and the Speedstream would have DHCP disabled.  There is not a need (at this point) to have the networks communicate.
Is this possible and if so, is there some semblence of a walkthrough for it?
Thank you again for reading my request.

Yes, this setup is possible. As long as the modem will be able to support more than one connection, then you may connect the 2 routers thru the switch.
The only thing that I see as a possible concern is about double NATting. If ever there is a need for you to open any ports in the router, then you will have to do double port forwarding or open a port in both the router and modem.
You may check this link how to cascade routers (follow Cascading a Linksys Router to a Linksys Cable Gateway with Internet-to-LAN Connection):

  • Major DSL Problems in Virginia

I've experienced major problems with Verizon DSL service since last night. It frequently times out trying to load some pages, and takes longer than it ever has previously to load other pages. It took me 3 attempts to get Speedtest to load. I'm currently staying with relatives, but I believe the package they have is 768 down. Currently, Speedtest can't even get a download speed tested, just a Ping of 284 ms between my location (Lynchburg, VA) and Greensboro, NC.
The person who's paying for this connection claims that DSL's slow all over "because people are downloading Windows 7." He claims this impacted Internet connection speeds at his office all day yesterday as well.
Frankly I find this to probably be a completely wrong answer. IMO somebody's leeching this connection (it has a password, but it's not a very strong one) or there must be a technical problem. Verizon's web page does not report any outages in my area though.
Anybody from Lynchburg, VA or close to here experiencing anything like this? I'm very suspicious of any claims DSL is slowing because of some area wide thing associated with the launch of Windows 7.
Since I need a stable Internet connection to get work done all day today, this issue is really frustrating.
EDIT: I finally got Speedtest to work.
    I got these horrid speeds: .02 mb/s download and .13 mb/s upload.
Anybody got any ideas what the likely cause of this mess is?

Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone in this.
If DSL gets as bad here in Lynchburg as it apparently is where you're located, I'm definitely going to have to do something about it. I can't get work done hardly at all with these kind of speeds, and my relatives refuse to switch to cable even though it would be beneficial to everyone in the house to do so.
I'm simply stumped as to why it's all of a sudden like this. It's never been great speeds, but I've always been able to listen to pretty quickly load web pages, listen to web audio and watch web video. Today, I can't get a web page to load correctly, and web audio has to buffer every 2-3 minutes. This is actually worse than dialup!
I initially definitely thought it was probably due to somebody leeching the connection. I still think that's the likely cause. Unfortunately since I don't pay for things, I can't do what needs to be done to eliminate potential causes. I was kind of hoping somebody from Lynchburg would post and tell me it's area wide. I'm probably in no such luck though.

It looks like you have done an installation into a directory that previously contained 9iAS too.
Look for a file named oracle_apache.conf. It is likely that a line with mod__ose.conf is mentioned twice - remove one line. Save the file. This will solve part of the problem.
What leaves, your error "1" might indicate that the service was not created because during your prev install it was not removed correctly.
The installation might contain more errors. Consider uninstalling the software, remove the ORACLE_HOME and services and do a reinstall...

  • Apache realm problems

    Hi,
i'm running a 10.5.5 MacOsX Server , and i'm having some problems with Apache realms.
Actually i'm running 5 sites on this machine , only one needs a Realm with Basic Auth.
The protected folder is inside root's site (a subfolder).
Allowed users of course are real local user created with Workgroup manager and have read/write permissions. "Everyone" has no permission.
Anyway trying to connect to this url (www.site.com/realmfolder), an auth is requested (a classic apache one) but after login it reports an "Internal Server Error".
    Any Idea?

    Camelot wrote:
How did you setup your realm? manually, or via Server Admin?
This time via Server Admin, usually from Terminal.
i'm not new on MacOsxServer , i use it since its early versions...

Everyone must have no permission, otherwise apache realms doesn't make sense :-D.
In order for Apache to serve the content you need at least read privileges for the _www user. If Apache can't read the files it can't serve them, regardless of who owns them.
Permissions are ok i'm sure of that i'm running on this machine 6 sites without any problems.
Problems come out upgrading from 10.5 > 10.5.5
after login it reports an "Internal Server Error".
What does the log say? /var/log/apache2/error_log (or /var/log/httpd/error_log if you're running Apache 1.3).

  • Wirless Router and Bellsouth DSL Problems

    Hi,
I purchased the wrt54gx2 router and I have Bellsouth DSL service.  I am not very knowledgable about networks and wireless but I purchased this several months ago and I have had several friends take a look and as well as placed calls to Linksys and Bellsouth and can not get this thing to work...its becoming very frustrating.  I have a Dell PC with XP that is connected to a Westell modem and can access the internet with no problem however I go through the set up procedure and connect the PC to the WRT54 wich goes to the Westell and No internet through my PC.  My hope is to have my PC as a base and use my laptop to roam the house.
My friend that has cable ISP took my WRT54 to his house and pluged it in and was up and running to his laptop in less than 5 minutes.
There is obviously some problem between the modem and router.  I have seen talk about PPPoE, Bridge Ethernet, checkin IP address, etc, etc.
Anyone having a similar problem or can anyone please help with some advice??
    PLLLeeease!!!

There isn't usually a problem with a Bellsouth DSL... hmmm anyway in your case, how do you log in to the internet through your modem? Do you log in or do you just connect and plug and it goes? Anyway try going to start--control panel---network connections... what items are listed here?
