Routes, NAT & Sec IP Address lost at reboot

Hi
I don't know if this is the correct forum but I have BM installed
I have a NW 6.5sp1 Bordermanager 3.8. Everytime I reboot the server I
loose the configuration of one of my entries on the static routing table.
The NAT is set up to dynamic and it is lost just sometimes. The secondary
ipaddress are commented on the autoexec.ncf (I dont want them anymore)and
they are configured after each reboot even if I comment them.
tcpcfg.nlm Version 6.50.24
inetcfg Version 6.50.19
Any HELP would be really appreciated
Best Regards

RIP is disabled
OSPF is disabled
I am alwasy using INETCFG to configure the routes and some of the routes
get saved but the one I configured lately don't stay

  • IP address lost after reboot

    hello,
When I reboot the Sun box and run "ifconfig -a" qfe0 shows no IP and I cannot ping it.
I dont know what is going wrong?

I have never worked with the V210, so I can't say for certain whether it should or should not have a bge interface. So consider this response to be more of a general response.
Sun is somewhat notorious in my experience for changing network interfaces between revisions of the same system. The fact that it "should" have a bge interface doesn't mean anything.
You can confirm that the system has defined a bge interface with the following command:
    grep \"bge\" /etc/path_to_inst
If you do get a result, the final column is the instance number. If you don't get a result then you either don't have a bge interface or the operating system for whatever reason doesn't support it. (Too early a version to know about bge? Perhaps Sun dropped support in newer Solaris versions?)

  • WiFi IP address lost when activating internet sharing

    iMac (24-inch, Early 2009)
I'm having troubles with sharing my wifi to internet.
Worked great untill today. Wifi IP address (reserved/dedicated address from DHCP Airport Extreme 192.168.0.4) disappeares when the Internet Sharing is activated. Wifi in Network turnes orange and notes that no IP address is available.
When the Internet Sharing is turned off, the DHCP connection seemes to restore and the normal IP address returns.
Both IPv4 and IPv6 are active and available on the network. IPv6 address lost also.
Did a complete rework of the Airport Extreme, complete rework of the iMac network environment, dumped all settings (trashed the config folder) rebooted modem, router, iMac in different order. Repeated everything with firewall off, tried again without encryption, no results.
Everything works great, except for the Internet share (over ethernet for devices using wifi).
DHCP / IP lost the moment the sharing is activated and restored the moment it is killed.
    Anyone got any suggestion?

"Stuffed up" is not really a term we use much in networking. What did you actually do? Using what software? How are you connected to your local network, and how is that connected to the internet?
What happens if you use the Apple menu to access System Preferences/Network?

  • Trusted RFC and Remote logon not possible due to Nat'd IP addresses

    Hi,
We are trying to connect our SolMan 4 to our cusotmers ECC 6 and BI7 systems, the systems are off site and the IP addresses for the customers systems are nat'd when they come in and go out from our Network.
The problem we get is that we cannot set up Trusted systems or Remote Logon to these systems due to issues with the Nating of the IP adresses. We can set up all standard RFC's after adding the the appropriate addresses into the hosts file and they work fine. But the trusted RFC does not set up properly and the BACK rfc from the satelite system does not get set up properly. What appears to happen is that when you try to start a remote session SAP goes to the satelite system and finds the Instance Name and the local IP address rather than the NAT'd IP address and try's to open a session from there. I found this by going into the trusted RFC in SM59 and then going to Extra's, System Information, Target System, this then tells me the Target System information, where it shows the System ID and IP address (which is the incorrect IP address).
Anyone know how we can get the system to try to have the correct IP adress in the target system information so that we can get Remote Logon's to work??
    Cheers

    Hi Carl,
Based on your explanation about Nating,, how will the RFC determine to connect to Solmans internal IP after it has been directed to the IP for the Router connection.
I feel it is like configuring a jump of RFCs from one IP to another in a single chain.
Can this be done ?? I mean we have to specify an IP in the RFC connection right.. so how will the automatic jumping of IPs be done.
Sorry not answering the question but its very interesting and wanted to know.
Also went trough note # 148832, might help.

  • Access another host on same subnet through Nat'd IP address

I appreciate any help in advance, I have a requirement to monitor a host's external IP address, the monitoring host (host A) initiating the request is located in the same DMZ subnet as the destination host (host B) I want to monitor, both are NAT'd to external IP addresses, I was expecting to see a request going out from host A, getting NAT'd to its respective external IP address and then coming back in through the external interface to reach the Nat'd IP address of host B. is this how NAT will be handled by the ASA or am I missing something here? thanks again.

    Borman,
Its more complicated than that, consider the following scenario:
                                20.20.20.0/24
                   ASA------------------------------Internet
                      | (DMZ)
                 Switch
         Host A          Host B
       10.1.1.10      10.1.1.100
                          20.20.20.20 (Nat outside address)
Basically you want to monitor your host B using its public IP address, normally your NAT configuration (in case of version 8.2 and prior) would be something like this:
    nat (DMZ,outside) 20.20.20.20 10.1.1.100
    nat (DMZ) 1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
    global (outside) 1 interface
When going from Host A to host B, two translations should occur, first is the Unstranslate from 20.20.20.20 to 10.1.1.100 (By internal process of the ASA), then once it is unstranslated, the route-lookup comes in game. Firewall notices that is on the same interface as the source of the packet so we reach our first impass. The ASA does not support same security traffic by default. So we overcome this issue with the following command:
    same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
Now that is done, so we move to the next packet process, the ASA tries to check if there is any NAT translation for a packet coming from the DMZ and going to the same DMZ. As you can see there is a "nat (DMZ) 1 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0", that tells the firewall that everything coming from the DMZ should be translated, we hit that NAT and since the outgoing interface is the same as the source interface (DMZ) there is no global command, hence you will see an error that states, No translation group found. Here is how we overcome that issue
    Global (DMZ) 1 interface
This will translate requests from the DMZ interface going to that same interface to the DMZ IP address, on the server 10.1.1.100, the connection will be seeing as it came from the firewall, the packets will be sent to the firewall again, hence avoiding asymmetric routing.
If running version 8.3 or higher, the concept is the same, but the commands change a bit.
    8.3
    same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
    object network Server_Public
    host 20.20.20.20
    object network Server_Private
    host 10.1.1.100
    object network Any
    subnet 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
Nat (DMZ,DMZ) source dynamic Any interface destination static Server_Public Server_Private
So bottom line, configuration needed on 8.2
    global (outside) 1 interface
    same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
    Configuration for 8.3
    same-security-traffic permit intra-interface
    object network Server_Public
    host 20.20.20.20
    object network Server_Private
    host 10.1.1.100
    object network Any
    subnet 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
Nat (DMZ,DMZ) source dynamic Any interface destination static Server_Public Server_Private
    Hope this helps a bit.

  • Natting of Destination Address

Is is possble to nat the destination address. What I am trying to do it change DNS servers. I would like to have traffic going to the old address be natted but traffic going to the new address not be natted. Finally if the DNS devices generates traffic it would not be natted.

I understand it may be tricky, that is why I posted it. The DNS server is an internal server so from the router point of view I can make it either inside or outside. Currently it is connected directly to a 6509, but the thought is to put a 3640 between the DNS server and the 6509 and using static routes on the 6509 direct traffic for either address to the 3640 and then to the new server. My thought was to do nating on the 3640, but as I indicated I have not be able to get the router to change or nat the destination address and also not to nat traffic to the new address or new traffic coming from the DNS server.
If you are someone could give a specific config or point me to a cisco document that explains how to do this it would be great.

  • NAT'd IP Address

Hi, i'm currently on Infinity 2 with a hub 5 router, basically i use opendns on both my desktop and laptop with the ip updater software. Anyway recently i had an issue were other people seem to be affected by my dns settings even though i'm in Northern Ireland and they are in England. Following a fair amount of investigation by OpenDns support and tests from my PC they believe i'm on a NAT'd Ip address. Can this be looked into by someone in support. This issue occured around 2 weeks ago.

This picture will show if you are on CG-NAT.

  • Per User Crontab lost on reboot

    Hi Guys and Gals;
I noticed starting sometime in the last few months my user crontabs are being lost on reboot. I have checked that they are not on a tmpfs or other volatile drive. I've searched around but can't find anything that would be causing this.
    Any thoughts would be helpful!

If you're feeling adventurous, I'd chattr the crontab files themselves. Perhaps even the entire /var/spool/cron/ directory, if only just before doing an update that you suspect may do this.
If this tactic doesn't have an affect, it'll be strange. Very strange, which we can look into later. It will, however, most likely make the upgrade fail. When this happens you'll at least have a log file that will say which installer/program/thread/whatever failed to make the change. The only other thing that could happen is that after the upgrade you'll see that the files did not change (as expected), and the installer/upgrade completed while keeping your crons.
The downside, of course, is having to remember to unchatter the files before changing crontabs, then chattring them back.

  • N800 os2008 combined: settings lost over reboot, U...

Loaded the combined os2008 onto my n800. Wifi worked (unlike the n800-specific version), lots of other things worked. But there are differences.
    - word choice and word prediction during typing used to be defaulted on; now off. Turn them on, they work fine and still use my saved information from before. Turn n800 off last night, turn it on today, and the settings have all been lost - I had to turn them on again.
    - concern - what other settings are getting lost over reboot?
    - auto capitalization used to UPSHIFT the keyboard to indicate that it was shifting the first letter of a word. not now. caused me problems with a password until i realized i had turned it on along word prediction.

I've got the same thing happening on a newly flashed N800. The settings seem to disappear at random. I haven't been able to discern a pattern yet, but, like you, seem to lose them always over a power cycle.
I've had my N800 three days and seeing your post makes me think I don't have a defective unit. When and how does suspicious new behavior turn into a bug?

  • (SOLVED) Tvheadend: Configuration lost on reboot

    Hello.
I managed to configure Tvheadend on my computer and it works great.
My problem is when the computer restarts: For some reason the settings are lost on reboot and I have to configure everything again every time when I turn the computer on.
I save the changes when the program is configurated but the computer loses the settings at start.
    Please, help me.

I configured the program from the web interface and I can see the TV channels and the EPG information even from other computers on my network but curiously the program does not create the folder you mention,
I do not know why that folder is not created and I do not know where it saves the data.
The .hts folder does not appear anywhere in my home directory: It is not in ~/.hts  and is not in ~/.config/.hts or similar places.
Should I create  ~/.hts/tvheadend  manually? If so, what should I put in that file?
Excuse me for my deficient english.

  • HKLM Permissions lost after reboot

    Hello All.
I have a need to give the Everyone group full control over the root HKLM hive of the registry. I have used the RegEdit GUI and the regini command to grant full control to the Everyone group for the HKLM Key and Subkeys. However, once I reboot the workstation,
the permissions have reverted back to the original.
The local administrators group is the owner of the HKLM key, and I am logged in as a member of this group when making the permission changes. I have UAC disabled, and have tried regedt32.exe > Run as Administrator and cmd.exe > Run as Administrator,
and I can set and confirm the permission changes with error, but the changes are lost after reboot. No AV is installed.
Does anyone have any clue what I am missing here?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
I cannot repro such issue on my computer. This should be something wrong during restarting or the admin account.
If you have any other admin account, please log on with it and try to grant the permission you would like to see what’s going on.
To make sure that other program reset permission during restarting, please test this issue when booting into Safe mode and let me know the results.
If the issue still persists in safe mode, please help to collect the boot trace for further research.

  • Router's now on but lost my 2 macbook connections... advice?

All:  My netgear router got unplugged ... and when I turned the router back on, I had lost my two macbook connections (a new macbook air and a really old macbook).  I know the wifi is working as my ipad grabs it, but it won't work on the two notebooks despite my trying to reset them again.  I have turned the wifi on in each of them.  Any tips on what I should try next?

It could possibly be a firmware glitch. If you're already using the updated firmware version, reload the firmware might help. By the way, were your 2.4 GHz client devices on sleep mode when you noticed the 2.4 GHz LED went off?

  • ITunes settings lost after reboot

I have a problem where after a reboot the settings of iTunes are back to default. For example:
    it loses the account for the Store (I have to re-enter email address and password);
it loses the wifi sync settings for my devices
it shows the iTunes tutorials screen, as if I'm starting iTunes for the first time
    settings under preferences are lost
    Other things are not lost:
    the library is still there;
iTunes remembers the devices (when connecting it is handled as a known device) and knows what playlists/apps/.. to sync with it.
Since I'm not rebooting my Windows 7 PC a lot, the problem is not occuring a lot, it doesn't keep me from using iTunes, it is just annoying. Now after rebooting I decided it's enough and I would post the issue (since I can't seem to find a comparable issue).
Also worthwile noticing is that the problem is already there for some time, though I can't exactly pinpoint anymore when it started. Possible when iTunes 9 or 10 were realeased.
    Now I'm using:
Windows 7 64-bit (completly up to date)
    iTunes 10.5.2.11
    Thanks for any help!

  • WRT310n - Routing/NAT stopped working

    Hello Cisco Forums,
I'll try to make this as detailed as I can, tell me if I've missed anything.
I've been on vacation for 2 weeks (all computers were OFF, but the WRT310N stayed ON) and when I came back none of my computers could access the internet. I have Linux, Vista and Windows 7 computers on this network, so this is not OS-related.
Every computer gets an IP from the router's DHCP server, they each can ping the router but they can't ping outside addresses. I've tried the "Diagnostic" utility in the router administrator interface and I can ping google from the router, but not from any other computer.
I've tried pigning my ISP gateway and Google using their IPs (bypassing the DNS) but to no avail.
Setting a static IP and ISP DNSes on a computer doesn't work either.
I've rebooted the router, rebooted the cable-modem, renewed the IPs, rebooted the computers and restarted the network intefaces. Nothing works. Wireless works fine, but no external access.
So, the router sees the internet but the NATted computers do not!
This was working fine 2 weeks ago.
What else could I try? I'm at a loss here...
    Thanks for your help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Try to verify the following:
if the router can ping hosts on the internet like this ip address 4.2.2.2
if the gateway's IP address on your computers is set to the router IP address.
if the NAT on the router is enabled
if you've configured a policy to restrict internet access.
if you do not want to use your ISP's dns server, then fill the dns fields in the DHCP section (in the setup screen)  with values: 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2.
    hope this help!
