Routing Audio

Greetings,
I cannot get audio to or from LE.
Here is the configuration.
Dedicated synth analogue out to MOTU 828 analogue in,
Core audio enabled, Driver: MOTU 828mk2
Midi Inst. track records midi data correctly.
When I playback the midi track and "Arm" the audio track for input and record
I do not see any audio meter activity and the track records "dead air"
I have to say that to date all other sequencing programs who sport audio capabilities are much more intuitive in getting the user up and running.
If you find this laughable, thanks for letting me entertain you!
I am just mystified.

Hi C,
when you click (select) on a track (audio) on channel strip
the I/O input (input 1) must match with your audio interface,
and you sound must come out from the MOTU.
Do this test, Open the loop browser (audio menu) drag to a track (blue loops audio tracks) green ones midi to audio tracks or instrument tracks (Blue icon).
regards,
Jorge

  • Can Apple Remote Desktop route audio to selected computers across network?

Can ARD be used to route audio output (e.g. from iTunes) across the network? If not, suggestions would be appreciated.
I remember that there was a -display option on Unix commands that let us run applications remotely and wondered if that might be a start to getting this task to work.
The intention is to feed audio-streamed data out to networked iMacs for use during classroom tests, controlled from a central admin computer in a different room. None of the classroom iMacs in question have iTunes on them, since it was removed to keep the machines more focused on classroom activities.

Sorry but no, ARD does not support audio across the network in any form.
Airfoil supports streaming of audio to other computers. I don't know if it will stream to multiple computers simultaneously, but you could check.

  • Routing audio to "system settings" from application?

    Hi
This is  a bit of a specialist one I am afraid.
In the new version of Logic Pro X (10.0.7), there is an audio routing option to route audio "To system settings".
This is ideal for us, as we have many audio workstations in a computer setup, and we use an Apple TV and Airplay on the classroom whiteboard for mirroring, and when the student mirrors their computer up to the Apple TV the sound from Logic Pro follows, and the class can hear. (Usually they are using a local Firewire device on headphones).
What I'm looking for is a way to route audio from software which doesn't have this option into the System setting, i.e. Sibelius 6. Sibelius mandates you choose an audio device to route to, and doesn't change when you mirror to Airplay - it stays on the selected device.
Sibelius will mirror to Airplay if you set it up deep as a menu option, but this isn't pretty as the audio output device is buried deep in a submenu and requires changing and them changing back to local every time the student mirrors. It isn't user friendly.
I'm wondering if I can do anything like route through Soundflower or any other virtual sound card, or another driver, which will allow this change. Soundflower routing into Logic, and Logic outputting to System Setting would work, but it's seriously clunky.
    Any advice welcome.
    Thanks, Tom

How do I route audio from a YouTube video to AU Lab using SoundFlower so that I can capture the YouTube video's sound stream?

Attach camera via USB or put card in card reader.
Go to FCP, and go to the Log and TRANSFER window.
If FCP recognizes the card, you will see your clips listed on the left.
You can view them, set Ins and Outs, and import just what you want.
Once you choose a section of video and import it, FCP converts (transcodes) from its original camera format to Apple ProRes422 - a more edit friendly video file.

  • PLEA. HELP -Profes. Way to route Audio back to L8 from Slave

    HI,
Ok: Here we go... can somebody please help me in setting up my Audio Signals from the Slaves back into Logic 8??
Now - I will go over and gather up what "insane" Information/Problems I have read about in the last days (Every day from Morning to Evening) and about my own conclusions because of my own testing with latencies...
Please (with all understanding) of the mentioned problems... How do you actually manage to route Audio Back from Slave Pcs into Logic 8 ?? What Latency are you able to use ??
    Lets Start:
    My simplified setup:
Main: MacbookPro Logic 8 with RME Fireface 800 (it has 2 Adats Stereo In/Out) and One SPDIF Digital
Slaves: Slave PC (M-Audio Delta Series)
Currently I only have a Slave PC hooked up with my Macbook Pro - Logic 8 sends Midi via IpMidi and gets Audio back from the Slave via Digital Spdif. I always have to delay the midi in EACH TRACK a little bit forward (1/64) Note in order to compensate the latency of my Slave PC (M-Audio at 512Samples)
I figured that the Latency of the Slave Audio would be the Latency of my Slave Audio Card + that of my Main Audio Card - Fireface 800 (they are both set to 512) ... That would add together to about 22ms of delay...Did I do the math right??
General List of "crazy" Problems to consider for this Connection:
    General Understanding:
The Audio from my Slaves has to go back into Logic, in order to get everything in Sync. In this way Logic has all Signals needed to calculate latencies (caused by plugIns)
    1. OK Lets say I want to route Audio back from My slave into Logic using the EXTERNAL INSTRUMENT PLUGIN:
    - the EXTINST is not suited for Multitimbral (Multiple Midi Channels) Instruments (I use Kontakt 2 on my Slave)
    - I can not handle any Midi Volume Faders from it to control Kontakt on Slave
    - Insert Effects arent't compensated (although in PDS Mode for "Audio and Instruments" ) Workaround to this : - Using the Fx on a connected Bus - THATS CRAZY!.
External Instrument PLUGIN is therefore not suited.
    2. OK Lets try routing via an Multiinstrument (Midi) and Audio Routing Back into Logic via an Aux Channel with the proper Inputs set:
    - well, this works a lot better (Midi is more convenient), but I always have to correct the latency caused by my slave PC by draging the Midi forward.
    3. Ok. Lets use the Latency Fixer PlugIN from Expert Sleepers to fix it:
    - Well in PDC Mode for "Audio and Instruments" (where I am supposed to Record everything in and play from my keyboard) it does of course NOT WORK .....
    - Only when setting it to PDC "Full Mode" it is effecitve ... but than I can not record Midi in Sync .... What is that???
    - in Other Words Using the Latency Fixer Plugin I Would have to switch back an forth in the PDC Mode:
    - PDC Audio Instr & Tracks ON When Recording / PDC Full ON to take advantage of the Latency Fixer PlugIn during playback --- THAT CAN`T BE IT!!!
Ok - I am not getting anywhere. Summing it all up:
The best solution I found so far:
-Using Aux Channels with proper Input for the Audio coming back from Slaves (Via SPDIF or Adat (lightpipe) )
    - reduce Latency by dragging each track forward (midi Delay to negative value)
Quick note to the programmers (But I guess nobody will read it or care):
Sorry programmers - What the heck are you programming ?? - Can't you just sum up the Problems on a list like I did and find proper Solutions ??? I don't want Logic 8 REMASTERED, I want Logic 10 Surpassed !!!
I can Imagine its hard wok -- but this is your JOB. Mine is composing...
I Don't have time sitting several hours a day searching for PROBLEMS and NO REALLY GOOD SOLUTIONS. I really would enjoy composing once in a while...
SO PLEASE: The next time want to make a new Logic, think of IMPORTANT PROBLEMS !!!!!!!
Don't just paint the ape like a human. If you want it to become a "smart " sapient, you'll have to work on it.
If somebody has the same procedure or a better way, I would like to know about it. Please report also if you know how really professional Studios are doing this...
I am about to buy 2 more professional soundcards for more slaves, and I would like to know how to connect everything together with logic.
Cheers and thanks for all upcoming answers and for reading this novel :))...

  • Can I rout audio on a PER APPLICATION basis?

Is there a way (third party software included) to rout audio on a *per application* basis? I'd like internet audio (Safari, etc.) to go to just the normal line out, while iTunes audio would be sent to digital audio out.

I've heard that audio hijack pro can do this.

  • Soft route audio from line in thru to headphones /  Audio Midi Setup

    howdy,
I am trying route audio from the line-in jack to the headphone jack. It seems that this should be possible using audio midi setup but the "thru" buttons don't respond to mouse clicks. Any ideas? The shareware program "Line-in" works but I only get audio on the left channel.

to answer my own question, the through routing is possible using GarageBand. I'd still be interested to seeif anyone knows how AMS is supposed to work.

  • Routing audio out of logic

I have just purchased a Korg Monotron and am trying to send sound out from Logic into the Monotron, and then filter the audio in the Monotron and record this back into Logic, however I have a problem.
The audio I want to send out of Logic is routed to the only 2 outputs '1 & 2' on my Edirol UA-25 interface.
I take a mono output from one of these outputs on the rear of the interface, and feed this into the Monotron headphone socket.
The issue is that when the sound is fed back into Logic, I can't hear the filtering effects because it is drowned out by the audio track I am sending out.
How can I mute the sound of the outputted audio so that I can only hear the subtleties of the filtering effect in Logic.
Can anyone explain a workaround for this.
I have tried to set up an aggregate device (can I record audio from my iMac instead?) and use the I/O plug in but with no success- any suggestions welcome!
    Cheers,
    Mr Rock

Sorry- that was a typo- I take the output from Logic into the aux-in of the Monotron and then feed the output from the headhone out of the Monotron.
The issue is I cannot just hear the subtlety of the filtered Monotron signal back in Logic as the Logic output is playing at the same time.
    Any solutions appreciated!

  • ITunes should not route audio through EQ when routing to AirTunes speakers

I just got a 2nd AirPort Express to use as AirTunes speakers. It's plugged into our very nice AV receiver via optical cable, so the sound quality should be as good as it can get with this sort of wireless setup. But, the audio is being EQd by iTunes, using the custom EQ setting I've created for the speakers I use at the computer. This is wrong. iTunes offers a way to easily switch between "speakers", but no way to pair up EQ settings with each. It should use the current EQ setting when routing sound to the computer it's running on, but either use no EQ or a preselected EQ when routing sound to any AirTunes speakers.
Why would it EQ the audio going to some unknown audio device that's plugged into the AirPort Express, most likely in another room where it would be impossible to even begin to EQ it by ear from back at the computer?
So, is there any way to do this now? If not, I'm sending feedback and logging a radar so they'll correct this huge oversight.

    Our cordless phones are 5.8GHz.
Some cordless phones also use 2.4GHz for paging between handset and base station.
    Can it happen
that interference only shows up with multiple
    speakers selected?
Due to the bandwidth requirements possibly. Streaming a single audio stream is less bandwidth intensive then streaming multiple audio streams.
If you were trying to stream video you may find the same thing.
As long as we're talking about possible sources of
interference, we do have two 802.11b networks in the
house. Could that be the issue?
    Yes.
What channels are the three wireless networks on?

  • Using an external synth, want to route audio visibly in logic

    Hey
So - in the early days of logic 5.5 i distinctly remembering that i had external synths, which i routed through logic, so that i could 1) Pick a midichannel that gave me the corresponding channel on the synth (like part 1), and 2) I could see a visible fader, with the EXACT same look and options on it, as any normal audio channel. Ie. i could put plugins on it, and so on.
however, ive gotten a Waldorf Blofeld af my first external synth, for use with my logic pro 8, and while i can play it using a midi keyboard, and i can see a channel for it, then the channel that it creates, is sort of a fader, with only pan settings, and rev + chorus. Ie. i cant record it, i cant use plugins on it. Furthermore ( but this may be a problem with a setting on my soundcard ? (a motu 828mkII if anyone happens to know how to fix it ) when i pan the reverb it doesnt pan at all, the sound stays in stereo. The volume fader however works fine.
So my question is: Can someone - please- explain to me, how to set it up "fully". Meaning a guide to creating the multi instrument ( as im guessing it should be ) and linking that to an audio channel in my environment, which i can then record, and use plugins on?
I sincerely hope for a fast and hopefully correct answer as this has been bugging me for two days now. Ive read alot of stuff in the manual, but cant figure it out.

You distinctly remember wrong (or at least, you're forgetting how you did it). A MIDI track has a MIDI channel strip, an audio object has an audio chanel strip that passes audio and can have audio plugins on it. You can't have one MIDI track with audio processing, as MIDI has nothing whatsoever to do with audio.)
What you probably did before is had a MIDI track feeding your MIDI instrument, but then had it's audio coming back into your audio interface and coming up in the mixer in realtime using an "Input" audio object.
however, ive gotten a Waldorf Blofeld af my first external synth, for use with
my logic pro 8, and while i can play it using a midi keyboard, and i can see

Yes, that's a channel strip for MIDI instruments - nothing to do with audio, it sends MIDI volume, pan and other GM messages over MIDI to control remote MIDI devices.
So my question is: Can someone - please- explain to me, how to set it up "fully".
Meaning a guide to creating the multi instrument ( as im guessing it should be )

If you specifically need multitimbral output, then you should create a multi instrument in the environment, set up to the MIDI ports/channel, and create arrange tracks for each of the (up to) 16 parts.
(The External Instrument plugin isn't much good for multitimbral or multioutput instruments).
That handles the MIDI side. Now, you want to bring that instrument's audio back into Logic's mixer, so plug the audio into your audio interface, either in stereo, or more channels if you have them to spare. Then you can either create Audio Input objects, or use regular audio tracks in input monitor mode, to add the audio coming in from the instrument in realtime to the mix, where you can also process with plugins etc.
Note that you won't be able to offline bounce with real instruments, as Logic can't speed up the universe to faster than realtime...

  • Routing audio from softsynth post-effects

Hi, i'm a seasoned Logic Pro7 and now Pro8 user but this one thing has got me stumped.
Is there a way to route the audio from my esx24 to an audio track within Logic.
I know I could just send it out and record it back in. But that's just plain fiddly with quality loss. I'd rather there be a cable free way to do it.
    Any help?
    Cheers.
    Robbie

Yes this is true, you can export the track, then reimport that audio. Or solo, bounce, and import the audio. But no way to actually record within Logic 7. Nice feature to have added in 8, I'm looking forward to that...

  • Routing audio playback to Pro Tools 003 rack

I've been using my Pro Tools hardware (digi 003 rack) to be able to play back my audio through my studio monitors. Recently the 003 rack doesn't come up as an option in my audio preferences. The only thing that comes up is Pro Tools Aggregate I/O, but this doesn't allow me to use my speakers. Does anyone know what the problem is?

I am a complete idiot. I am routing to a sampson C control and I didn't have the mix button depressed to mix my line out from the MAC and the outs from the presonus. I must have bumped it.
    All is good.

  • Firewire audio with jack, route audio to card?

    Hi
I hooked up my focusrite saffire 24 pro to my p150em and managed to get qjackcontrol to show that it is connected with 48khz sample rate and the green light is lit up on my saffire. So that's good.
I then tried listening to sounds from various programs, mpg123, cmus and google-chrome (youtube) but encountered errors like "connection refused" from audio server. So I installed alsa-plugins and configured jack to use alsa. Now I can hear things again, but of course, only through my intel soundcard and not the fw saffire!
I figured maybe I could open alsamixer and choose saffire as my soundcard? But it's not there.
How to I route the audio through the saffire?
    Best regards,
    Love

I have a very cheap C-Media PCI CMI8738-MC6 6-channel sound card connected by three jacks to Logitech 5.1 speakers. I also have a headset for Skype connected to the onboard sound.
    Here's what I know:
    1) To always get the sound card module to load before the onboard sound module, I have added snd_cmipci to my "modules" list in /etc/rc.conf. This means the cmi card is always card 0, the module for the onboard sound gets loaded automatically later.
    2) I have ~.asoundrc as follows:
    # 6 channel dmix:
    pcm.dmix6 {
    type dmix
    ipc_key 1024
    ipc_key_add_uid false
    ipc_perm 0660

    rate 48000
    channels 6
    period_time 0
    period_size 1024
    buffer_time 0
    buffer_size 5120
    # upmixing:
    pcm.ch51dup {
    type route
    slave.pcm dmix6
    slave.channels 6
    ttable.0.0 1
    ttable.1.1 1
    ttable.0.2 1
    ttable.1.3 1
    ttable.0.4 0.5
    ttable.1.4 0.5
    ttable.0.5 0.5
    ttable.1.5 0.5
    pcm.duplex {
    type asym
    playback.pcm "ch51dup" # upmix first
    capture.pcm "hw:0"
    # change default device:
    pcm.!default {
    type softvol
    slave.pcm "duplex"
    control {
    name "Software Master"
    card 0
    # for aoss
    pcm.dsp "duplex"
    pcm.dsp1 "duplex"
    3) To allow amarok to play each speaker individually using a 6 channel DTS .wav file I added the following to my ~.xine/config
    audio.device.alsa_surround51_device:plughw:0,1
    4) You can download a 60MB 6-channel DTS test file here. It is in swedish but tests each speaker individually.
