Routing midi from an ableton arpeggiator into logic express

anyone know if possible to recieve the midi from ableton 6 running as rewire slave into logic instrument ? ie use the live arpeggiator rather than logic one ?

I don't think you can do that with Rewire but you certainly can do it with IAC driver in the AudioMidiSetup. However, to do that, you can't run Live as a Rewire slave. Therefore, you'll have to start Live before Logic.
To be able to use the IAC driver, go to the Audio Midi Setup and Get Info for the IAC driver. Select the ports tab and add a port. This port should now be available both in the Live output and the Logic input.

  • $5 Starbucks card to first successful answer: how to import midi timecode into Logic Express 9 from Roland VS-880 or Ensoniq ASR-10

I will literally mail a $5 Starbucks card or gift $5 via paypal to the first person whose response gets me success.  Then after all responses are provided and I'm successful with my issue, I'll also raffle off $5 to one of ALL respondents by random pick.
    Problem/question:
I can't figure out how to import midi timecode data from either an Ensoniq ASR-10 or Roland VS-880 Vxpanded into Logic Express 9, so I can then use Logic Express 9 as the master.  No manuals seem to explain that; I just can't find it.
    Background/basics:
    1.  My ultimate goal will be to move all midi data from the Ensoniq ASR-10 floppies and all digital audio files from the VS-880 into Logic Express 9.  Once the midi timing is imported into a Logic Express 9 file, I'll import the data from the Ensoniq & Roland via steps 2a & 2b below.
1a.  Ten years ago I somehow (am in the process of re-learning what I did 10 years ago) imported the midi timing into the Roland VS-880 Vxpanded from the ASR-10, and then used the VS-880 as the Master to control the ASR-10.   So my current status is that I use the Roland VS-880 as the master, and the Ensoniq ASR-10 as the slave.
    2.  FYI for anyone who might be in the same boat, wanting to transfer stuff from an Ensoniq ASR-10 and Roland VS-880 to the computer:
2a.  I will import all midi sequence data from my ASR-10 floppy disks via a utility purchased here, which will all a PC to read Ensoniq-formatted disks, and then just hopefully cut/paste midi files into Logic Express 9 (FYI only):  www.chickensys.com
2b.  Then will import all the individual WAV files from my Roland VS-880 to Logic Express 9 using a method learned here (FYI only): http://www.vsplanet.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=985974&PHP SESSID=b1d2f57be4a1d37d49787400213b22df
2c.  I'll then combine them all into Logic Express 9.
So - how the heck do I capture/import the midi timecode into Logic from either the roland or ensoniq using midi?
I'm don't think that cutting/pasting the midi data into a Logic Express 9 sequence file (step 2a above) will do that, because there are all kinds of tempo & time signature changes in the midi files unfortunately.
    THANK YOU and Merry Christmas!!
    Andy

OK doesn't look possible.  Closing discussion.

  • Importing Garageband Songs into Logic Express

I recently imported a song that I created in Garageband into Logic Express (I already downloaded the most recent version) and I can't hear the Audio from the song. What should I do?

Very common question. Usually means you're not routing the audio through the "output 1-2" channel strip or the core audio settings are wrong.
You can search here or on google and found thousands of forum threads about the same thing. You should find your answer easily. Also, read the getting started manual.
Logic ain't GB and requires more manual controlling to organize. This is good.

  • ADAT into Logic Express, VERY low signals recorded

I tried Garageband, same problem, so now I am trying Logic Express.
When transferring tracks from an ADAT, through Alesis io/14, into Logic, the resulting sound files captured are VERY low signal. This should be a digitally ACCURATE TRANSFER. The Alesis montoring software on the mac senses the correct signal, the signal meters show correct levels (and sounds great), but Logic hears and records very low signals.
I note the Sound midi pref window only shows 6 channel 32 bit. It won't allow me to change to 8 channel 16 bit. Possible problem or am I chasing ghosts? I exhausted all my ideas.
    Any thoughts?

Discovering I was unable to import a ".au" file into Logic Express (or Garage Band) I read it into Sound Studio and exported it in a variety of formats. I can now successfully drag to Garage Band files in formats .aif .aifc .sd2 and .wav and get the expected result.
Unfortunately however, I only get the expected result importing these into Logic Express for the .aifc format which plays back at the expected speed with a low-pitched sound (but which doesn't display an uncompressed waveform). Importing the .aif .sd2 or .wav format files however results in the imported file being squeezed into a very short duration with a correspondingly undesirable very high pitch.
Is there some setting or magic incantation I need for reading in audio files to Logic Express without it getting squeezed?
    Thanks!
    --Roph
Yes. you need to ascend to level 5 before we give that secret incantation.
Really, you need to use a third party converter software, if you are going to use .au files.
Logic is happiest with .aiff, .wav files, but not much else.

  • MIDI plays in GarageBand, but not Logic Express

hi, all...when i drag or import a MIDI file that i know works in GarageBand into Logic Express, i can see all the different tracks and notation, but when i press play, no sound comes out, tho the measure line is moving and the volume indicators are lighting up.
    any clue what's going on?

This has already been discussed here numerous times. You should do a search on the forum and read the Logic for Garage Band Users pdf. When you open a midi file in Logic, the tracks are not assigned to virtual instruments like in GB, they're only midi tracks. If you want to hear sounds, you have assign them to an external sound module, to the QuickTime synth available in Logic or you have to create audio instruments tracks and move you midi data to those.

  • Problem importing Garageband songs into Logic  Express

Hi I have spent around 4 hours looking for an answer to this problem so hopefully it has'nt been answered before apolgies if it has.
I am trying to import a Garageband Song into Logic Express (7.1) it appears to import it to Logic but when finished it reads file corrupt not a Logic File.
I followed the tutorial opened the GB song and followed the instructions on how to import but I cant import it to Logic without the above message coming up.
    Any ideas?
I'm using a MacBook Pro with 10.4.9 on it.Logic is version 7.1 (Is there a known bug when importing?)
Thank you if you can help.
    KB.

    Hi KB,
    Welcome to the forum!
    the answer is within your question;
your machine needs the universal Logic express (7.2)
and your GB's probably GB 3.
That's the reason you can open the files.
If you bought version 7 "new"(from the reseler)
ask for version 7.2, as you can't buy crossgrade anymore.
(until logic sells a new one)
"You just bought diesel and your machine's not run on it"
rule number 1: You should Allways look for system requirements and software versions compability!

  • I want to extract audio from a video file into logic

I have a video thats in the .WMV format and i want to extract certain bits of audio from it, how can i do this within Logic Pro 7.

A quick google search on "convert WMF to quicktime" came up with this program: http://www.programurl.com/software/quicktime.htm
Never used it, but it might be what your looking for?
BTW, did you try just exporting the audio in WMP? Is that possible? I obviously dont use it You may also try to drag the file into logic and see what happens. Though I doubt it will work, its worth a try.

  • Opening various tracks from various GB projects into Logic rop

Hi. I am having some difficulty. I have a song I have been working on in GB. I have been experimenting with different sounds and therefore have 3 different GB projects on it. I would like to take individual/different tracks from those 3 GBs and put them all in 1 Logic.
Do I have to export/bounce each one through Itunes?, but that permanently embeds my effects. I would like to be able to still tweak all the tracks some more once they are in logic.
basically, how do I open individual gb "tracks" not projects, into Logic? thanks.
    Message was edited by: FM/AR

just basically wondering if there is any way to select individual tracks within a GB project and move/drag/copy/paste/export/import etc. them into logic, while keeping all of their settings intact so they can be further worked on in Logic.
I know some roundabout ways but it will take forever. I have probably 100 tracks mixed up among 3 different GB projects (like 20 or 30 track in each project) and I need to get them into 1 Logic project. I know how to find the raw files, but then I will have to manually add all of my effects (many are customized) again and that could take some time, because I will have to create all my custom effects in logic. I would have to go into GB and right down all of my moves and the details of the customized effect and then make an replica of it in Logic....sheww....that could take a long time. i have tons of effects....

  • Need help importing session from Korg Triton Extreme into logic

I am trying to import a full midi session that was sequenced on my Triton into Logic Pro9.  The problem I'm having is that when I record in, all 16 midi channels are sending to one Logic midi track.  Is there a way to import the full midi session into logic so I can edit the session in logic on the 16 individual tracks? Any help would be great!

I think the triton can save standard midi files. Importing that file into logic would be the best and cleanest solution.

  • What is the best way to get audio from a regular cd into logic?

I need to get some music of a regular music CD into Logic. When doing something like this on a PC I'd get some third party software to rip the CD and convert into audio files that I'd use in the Daw. What is the simplest way on a Mac?

    1. insert CD (der...)
    2. open iTunes and click 'inport cd'
    3. when the tracks are finished inporting drag them into a play list (just to keep things tidy.)
    4. select the tracks you want in logic.
    5. drag the tracks where you want them in logic
note: when you drag the tracks in logic will create an overview for the tracks, this could take a while depending on the length of the son.
    hope this helps.

  • Why can't I drag and drop my own songs and clips from itunes into logic express?

I have been on the road for 8 months and now I can't use my own stuff in logic express?
    <Edited by Host>

    Hello Rocksinger99,
Before we go into the why you are not able to copy your iTunes content to an external hard drive, what is the purpose of copying the content there? The reason I ask is because there are different scenarios that may be done differently. So if you just want to move the media off your internal hard drive, then look at the first article to walk you through how to just move the media folder by using iTunes to start the transfer. If you are copying the media to move it to another computer, then check the format of the external hard drive and make sure that it is formatted for Mac. Take a look at the last two for information on finding out the format as well as steps to get it formatted for Mac. Let me know what you find out.

  • Transfer Digital Performer files into Logic Express?

I have some old recordings that are on a ADAT tape. A friend of mine said he could transfer them to Digital Performer. Does Logic open DP files?
    Paul

Unfortunately, as was pointed out, Logic Express does not open Digital Performer files.
Not does it import OMF files, nor Broadcast Wave files, which means you can't export time-stamped waves from DP and import into LE. If you know someone with Logic Pro, it DOES support Broadcast Wave. This could be one work around.
    Otherwise, you'll have two options.
    1) Import the ADAT recordings directly into LE using an interface that supports ADAT In (MOTU 828mkII comes to mind). This will only work if you can re-assign the inputs of the interface to be the first 8, since LE only "sees" the first 12. This is one of the major limitations of LE, and why it's not really suited for "pro" work.
    2) Import into DP, and then bounce the tracks in DP as separate WAVE of AIFF files, then import them directly into LE in the Audio Window. As long as each file starts (and ends, preferably) at the same time (i.e. as set in the DP bounce), you should have no problem aligning the tracks in LE7.
Number 2 is probably the best solution. Just remember that each of the WAVE files created in DP should begin at the same time (i.e. 0 0 0 0). This will GREATLY simplify the import into LE and make aligning the tracks a painless procedure. You can edit later in LE.
    Hope this helps.

  • Importing a Finale Composition into Logic Express (8)

Hi, I would like to know how to go about importing a composition done in Finale to Logic so I can master it. I have saved the finale file as a midi file and opened that in Logic, but it doesn't retain the Garritan instrument sounds, and I really don't know what I'm doing anyway. Can someone tell me what is the best process for doing this?

Thanks, actually I have read through the manual a bit, and when it comes to tracking and editing I do know what I'm doing, but when it comes to this specifically, I don't :P
I read the part about importing/opening midi, and I followed the instructions, and it seems that it did actually open all the right parts and everything even with the right Garritan instruments, but now I don't hear anything during playback. I see the little trim meters moving when the sound should be playing, but nothing comes out:/
Right now I'm going to try the long process of extracting each different part from my score and then make an audio file of each to import on a its own audio track. This should work in principle, but it just seems to me that there should be an easier way.

  • Importing patch names into Logic Express

Anyone know of a utility that will allow me to get the patch names out of my hardware synths and into Logic?

Yes, but the utility built into Logic is a simple cut/paste from a text file. I have 6 synths each with multiple banks and a lot of custom patches. Even if I could find the patch lists in .txt format it would still be a lot of typing. There has to be a better way. I've seen PC software that can pull patch names directly from synths via sysex. Logic can't do this as far as I know so I'm looking for a 'helper app' that can. I know Sound Diver used to be a way of doing this but as far as I know it's pretty much dead.
