Hi all if I have 4 routers all on 172.16.1.0, 172.16.2.0, 172.16.3.0, 172.16.4.0, If I use rip on each one, will it advertise 172.16.0.0 as its classful, and would this cause probs with routing ?

By default, RIP and EIGRP will Auto-summarize to classful boundaries. And without further configuration, or a sample physical drawing, could cause problems as each of these networks falls into 172.16.0.0 255.255.0.0 Class-B summary.

Yep...its a glitch of some sort. Go into your contacts and edit the address. Then, select the country from the scroll menu. That should fix it up. Major pain though to do that with every contact for which you have an address.

OSB 11G - Routing with policy and forwarding authentication headers

Hi there,
I'm having problems trying to add authentication to some services developed with OSB 11G.
One of the requirements is that the services authenticate using the "oracle/wss_username_token_service_policy" policy... So far so good...
My problem now is that one of the services I'm trying to route messages to needs the same authentication as the OSB router... I've tried everything I found but without any success... The headers aren't being propagated...
I've found out that the header variable has the Authentication segments so I can remove the routing, add a service callout and add the header variable to it.. But this is kind of a hammered solution...
Is there any other solution that I'm missing?

Dynamic Routing with VPN and multiple Peers

I have several sites that connect to my primary host site (ASA5525-X) via LAN to LAN tunnels and currently all internal host routing is static. I need to implement a backup host site (ASA5520) for the remote sites to connect to. I know that I can add additional peers on each remote site for the host sites. However, I need to be able to do dynamic routing, so that if does not matter which site they are connected to the internal networks will learn where to route the traffic. I am running OSPF on my internal networks at both Primary and Backup host sites and they have an internal connection between the two sites.
Is there a way to accomplish this on the ASAs?

Hello Guys,
Am quite new in cisco and i need to configure an 891 cisco router,can someone please show me step by step configuration commands for configuring Username and Secret Password.I would like the router to ask for "Username"and " Password" anytime i want to login the router through telnet.I also want to know if i have to erase the default configurations on the router first, before i start the configuration,and how it should be done in other not to loose the router whiles working on it.Thanks for your usual quick responds.

Peter has suggested to use SSH because of the fact that telnet data is sent in clear text, so someone with the right tools could easily find your password and your device could/would be compromised. It is security best practice. SSH is encrypted.
Technically speaking you do not need to change the hostname / domain name. But majority of Cisco documentation follow this method.
In case you are interested on how to do this without change... see below.

The normal cases just as shown in Cisco documentation, the parser (without a label on the crypto key) would force us to change the hostname, create a domain name. I think the domain name is there to put a label on the keys.

Need Fastest Built in router with wireless and no problems

I have tried the WRT110 and 160 it seems the 310 or even the 350 are slow to my previous Wired lan. Problem is I am transferring files using the Wired portion of the WRT series and no using the Wireless. So in theory it should be quite fast but they are like 35+ % slower than my 8 port DSL router of 8 yr old. Any advise?

Try disabling the firewall & antivirus on the wired computer ... See if the file transfer works or not ...

Replace old router with WRT110 and now I can not see shared printer on network

Replaced a BEFW11S4 with a WRT110. Now I can not see a shared printer on the network any more. I have not changed anything on the computer that has the printer shared. I can see the internet on all the computers, but not the shared printer. can you help?

First which you need to check, is your printer is working Offline on your computer. In this case you need to Re-map your Printer on your Computers back again. First check if you have any Firewall or Antivurs Installed on your computer try to disable it and check if you are able to print from your computer. If not then try to Remap the printer on your computer.
Go to Network connections window and if you are able to see your computer name on which the printer is installed, then right click on the Printer and click on "Connect" or "MAP" once done you will be able to print from your computer.
Note down the IP address of the Computer on which you have Installed the Printer. (Click on Start - Run - CMD and click Ok, now in the command prompt type "ipconfig" and note down the Ip address, Then go to your other computer and Click on Start - Run - CMD and click Ok and now in the Command prompt type "ping (IP address of your main computer) and hit enter and check if you are getting any replies. If yes, then again click on "Start - Run - type ( \\ip address of your main computer) and click Ok, and now you will be able to see your printer name then right click on it and click on "Connect" or Map, once done, now check if you are able to print from your computer.

I am having the same problem with brand new Ipad Mini at my house.
It connects to the WiFi fine - but will not pull an IP address in DHCP mode, or if I set all the IP info statically - it still will not get any network access.
This doesn't look like a WiFi issue, as it does connect and is seen by the WiFi Access Point. All the normal WiFi fix stuff doesn't help.
- Using a Dlink DAP-2553 which is less than 2 months old.
Other devices connect fine, including Ipad 2.
This same Mini worked fine at another house and also connected to a mobile hotspot fine....so seems to be some weird IP issue with maybe this Access Point or maybe the older Router that I have (older Netgear)?
I am actually a network engineer and still have not been able to find a solution. Both the Ipad Mini and the Dlink WAP have the latest firmware loaded.
Wondering if anyone has found a solution to this problem.

How apply cgi on Linksys router with safari

I'm having issues of setting preferences on a Linksys router with Safari and a Mac. Am I missing a setting on Safari to allow cgi?

I want to set how many users allowed on my small local network. I can use a different browser to accomplish this but would like to use Safari. From time to time I do maintenance on the router and need to access the router preferences. Also at this time trying to trouble shoot the router for not allowing PC's to show up on the network FInder, a completely different problem and off topic.

Suggestions for new router for home with Macs and PC's?

Hey everyone, my router just died (RIP WRT54G) my house is quite diverse, and I need a router that can handle it all, I have: 1) A Wii (wireless) 2) bluray player (wired) 3) internet enabled HDTV (wired) 4) a PC running Windows 7 (wired) 5) two MacBooks (wireless) and finally, 6) two iPhones (wireless, obviously) oh yeah and 7) an XBOX 360 (wired) sounds crazy now that I write it all out :P
So, I need a router that can take wired connections and wireless all at once without freaking out, any ideas?

What I have in my house is an Airport Extreme with it's two (n,b or g) wireless connections for older non-N wireless connections. I then got a D-Link DGS-2208 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port Desktop Green Ethernet Switch 8 for fast subnet sharing in the house. This speed is important for HD video sharing for from the external I have connected to the USB2 port on My Extreme.
Note: My Extreme is in "Bridged mode" because it sits behind a wired router that acts as the DHCP server.
Getting a router with Gig Ports and and USB2 port for an external to store/share files (videos mainly) to all my networked devices. The USB2 port on the Extreme was the deciding factor for the extra cost and this handy port making any USB2 external into a networked drive. Plus my older iPhone 3GS only does G it was a no-brainier because of the dual wireless.
The GIG switch is future proofing yourself for the years to come.
Plus I called the extreme but it is a Time Capsule that is just and extreme with a built-in disk.
One more thing: Use CAT6 cables in your network.

Route Redistribution between RIP and OSPF

Hi all,
I'm building my home lab and having difficutly to get this part of router redistribution work.
I can't ping from PC, Server and SW1 to R2's int f0/0, f0/1 and SW2's G0/1.
I can't ping from R1 to R2's f0/1, SW2
Vice versa, I can't ping from SW2 to R2's f0/0, R1's f0/0 & f0/1, SW1, PC and Server.
Also, I can't ping from R2 to R1's f0/1, SW1, Server and PC.
I think the reason cause these ping's failure is I didn't config the Route Redistribution between RIP and OSPF(on R2)correctly. I strugled for hours to change comand around but still can't figure it out. I attached my Topology and config. file to you and please help!

Hi,
On R1, you should not be advertising 10.0.0.0/24 via OSPF => redistribution will handle that
On R1, you should not be advertising 20.0.0.0/24 via EIGRP => redistribution will handle that
On R2, you should not be advertising 30.0.0.0/24 via OSPF => redistribution will handle that
On R2, you should not be advertising 20.0.0.0/24 via RIP=> redistribution will handle that
On R2, under your rip process, you should put a metric to RIP otherwise it would redistributed with infinite metric (i.e. 16). Btw, you did put a seed metric on your EIGRP redistribution which is fine.
Also if you're talking RIP with switch2 and would like to send rip updates to him, you remove your passive interface statement
your rip statement should be somethin like that :
router rip
version 2
redistribute ospf 1 metric 5
passive-interface FastEthernet0/0
network 30.0.0.0
no auto-summary

If I have got a scenario asking me not to send EIGRP packets out any other interfaces except interface Ethernet 0/0 (ip address is 183.1.123.3),,,,,,,,,,,then I can configure the router like this:
Router eigrp 100
Network 183.1.123.3 0.0.0.0------ ip address for fa 0/0,,,not the whole network.
I can this for OSPf as well.
Can I use same procedure with RIP ?
Second question:
For OSPF we choose router-id , why do we need to configure this for EIGRP or IGRP

With this command, OSPF and EIGRP works only on that interface not any other interface.
In case of RIP, its not possible. You have to use " passive interface " command in order to stop the RIP packets.
in case of EIGRP, router -id is used to identify the originating router for external routes. If an external route is received with the local router ID, the route is discarded. The router ID can be configured with any IP address with two exceptions; 0.0.0.0 and 255.255.255.255 are not legal values and cannot be entered. A unique value should be configured for each router.

I have an IPA2 wifi 3g working fine with wifi up for 3 monthes then from two weeks it get connection but after 1 minutes stop to serf/download with signal and connection always present. With the same router are still connected others 3 pc working!

I all,
the scenario is the following:
WIFI connection with TISCALI operator. Encryption made by WPA2 EAS with router SITECOM or tested also with another router DIGICOM with WPA TPK.
From December up to end of March the IPAD2 working perfectly serfing and downloading.
By two weeks it has a very strange behavour without have changed any configuration on IPAD or network:
with WIFI turned on it discover about 4 different ntw among them the mine, I successfully authenticate with psw the my ntw,
the IPAD2 start to run with Safari without problems, but after about 1 minutes, it stop to serf or download and answer that the Server cannot be reached or the page cannot be open, at the same time the signal is present on the icon of WIFI and it is strong.
This problem is systematic: If I dissasociate the ntw and then authenticate again I start to serf again for 1 minutes (more or less) and then it stops again, this occurs every time I authenticate the ntw after a disassociation.
I made some test changing the encryption from WPA2, WPA and also without encryption but the result was always the same, after about one minute the server seems to be for the IPAD2 no more reachable while the others PC and netbook connected to the same router continue to serf/download without problems!
I also tried to change the router with a DIGCOM that I did not use generally, but the behavour is always the same.
Since the IOS was the 4.3 revisin, I made the upgrade by means Itunes to IOS 5.1 succesfully installed.
But unfortunatelly all test repeted have had the same negative result with the same behavour!
Yesterday I tried to do the complete restore of the System but the tests had the same rsult.
I really don't know how to proceed, the problem started suddenly without any action from my side....is there someone that can help me?

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
