Roxio Media Manager in Continuous Installation Loop

After crashing my computer, I had to reinstall the desktop software for my Blackberry 8830 as well as ITunes. Since adding ITunes I have been getting a continuous loop with Roxio Media Manager trying to install itself when I open the Desktop Manager, but the installation is never completed and seems impossible to cancel. Evidently others have had the same problem and cannot get rid of Roxio Media Manager and cannot stop it from constantly installing (and blocking installation of other programs). I have tried to follow instructions that I found on the Roxio website to uninstall, but those instructions did not work. That involved downloading Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, but that won't install either, because the Roxio is showing up as installing. The Roxio program came bundled with the Blackberry setup, so I cannot find it listed on my programs to uninstall. Please help. How can I get this program off my computer or stop its constant (every few seconds) efforts to install itself?

  • Roxio Media Manager or Windows Installer

Hello all. First let me say that I am truly a novice when it comes to PC understanding. Ok, so I purchased a blackberry pearl and had to replace it. Long story short, I ended up tryign to back up my data on my pc and now I keep getting error messages..."please wait while windows installer configures roxio media manager" or something to that effect (not at my home pc right now, sorry). I had a friend come and did what I thought was a removal of BB Desktop software and a restore to a point before I had installed it, but no dice. Still have the error, but no software. Purchased an external hard drive to back up my data, but can't even do that because I get the Installer error anytime I try to install new software on the pc. Pls help.

on the blackberry.com website, you can download the Desktop Manager without Media Manager.
    less headaches.

  • Roxio Media Manager Installation Loop

I know there are threads of prior discussion on this, but I haven't seen a solution....
Roxio is initiating the Windows Installer and is looking for a file "Roxio Media Manager.msi" which is nowhere to be found.
Cancelling the request, just loops back to ask for the file.
I have done a clean install of DSM, including manually deleting all the registry entries and files, but the problem has come creeping back.
    Any thoughts?

    Welcome to the forums
If you don't really need Roxio, I recommend downloading DTM without Media Manager because it runs a lot better. I found Roxio kept crashing the software.
What version of DTM did you download btw, and what OS are your running on your computer (XP, Vista)?
Download Blackberry Desktop Manager over here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22

  • Roxio Media Manager Installation Problem

My Desktop Manager recently updated itself to version 5.   Shortlly therafter I started to get error messages from Window's Installer trying to configure  Roxio Media Manager and not finding a particular roxio media manager .msi file.  This is a very insistent installation routine because no amount of "cancel" or rebooting eliminates the process.  Very frustrating.  The error message is prompting me for an alternate path to the folder containing the installation package but my browing is not finding it.  Maybe it's somewhere else?
What do I need to do to either abort this installation or complete it?   I really don't care either way, since I don't use Media Manager much.  Thanks in advance for your help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

If you don't use media manager, I suggest removing it entirely. In my experience it has caused issues with the desktop manager software. I would uninstall the desktop manager from your computer first. Uninstall the Blackberry Destkop Manager (DTM) using this guide: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
Then, Download Blackberry Desktop Manager over here (without media manager): https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Install it and hopefully everything runs fine again. Be sure to reconfigure your sync settings if you use them.

  • Windows Installer-Roxio Media Manager freezes computer when booting up..

I sure hope someone can tell me what the solution to my problem is.  I am quite the novice so please, if you have an answer, make the solution as simple as possible. When I turn on my computer and it's trying to load everything, I first get a box with Windows Installer at the top and Roxio Media Manager at the bottom, which hangs up my computer. This just happened one day out of the blue, maybe a few weeks ago.  This morning  I left my computer about 15min after I turned it on, and when I came back to it, the BB Desktop Manager was in the background with the box I mentioned above on top of it, and it had totally frozen up my computer and all I could do was shut my computer off with the on/off switch.  I had to do this shutdown several times after trying to get my computer booted up.  One day when this box above popped up I right away went to Windows Task Manager and ended the task and the box went away.  My computer then booted up but was very very very slow, almost like it was freezing up, so I waited and eventually my computer booted up and it was fine.  If I don't get to this box and end the task almost as soon as it pops up, it freezes my computer.  I don't know if I caused something by starting to "End Task" when box popped up or not.  I'm at a total loss at what to do.  I don't want to have to keep doing this every day.  I've come very close to just uninstalling the BB Desktop Manager.  I hope there is someone out there that can understand what this problem is and can help me.  I don't know if I've explained it clearly enough or not.  Please help!!!

  • BB Desktop / Roxio Media Manager Problems

Seriously, how does anyone use this software?  I'm using the latest 4.7 version.  Connecting my Storm up to my PC (Windows Vista), the overall response time is so slow that it is almost painful to watch.  Issues -
    1. Checks for applications updates everytime I click on a function? Really? This just happened when I launched the application - why does it do it everytime I click on Add application, manage media, etc?
    2. Roxio Media Manager - this is about the most painful piece of software I've ever used.  Did anyone really QA this before shipping it?  Slow, slow, and slow.  No indication that it is doing anything after you click on an action. Half the time it doesn't do anything!  Moving media files, pictures, etc should take this long.  Even navigating the local file system shouldn't take 30 - 60 seconds to do.
BB - any updates coming?  It feels like this was rushed out before it was fully developed....

    Research shows:
    1.  (thanks to my friend John Clark for this instructional) To prevent this from happening this you need to install Desktop Manager WITHOUT this Automatic Update service. Below are the steps to remove this service.
    1. Go to Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs.
    2. Click on "BlackBerry Desktop Software" and select "Change/Remove."
    3. When prompted, hit "Next" and then you should get options for Modify, Repair, or Remove. Choose "Modify."
    4. On DM 4.7 and higher, in the list of installed items, you should see "BlackBerry Automatic Update." Click the icon next to it and change it to "This feature will not be available." That should put an "X" next to "BlackBerry Automatic Update." If you are using DM 4.6 or lower and don't see this option in this list then just continue with the install and the installation will ask you a few screens later. A screen will be shown where you will be asked to check the boxes for:
    A) "Start BlackBerry Desktop Manager automatically each time the computer starts."
    B) "Create a shortcut for BlackBerry Desktop Manager on the Windows Desktop."
    C) "Check for software updates."
Be sure number 3, "Check for software updates," is NOT checked.
    2. Yes the Roxio software is buggy to me as well. I don't install it and life stays good. Use Mass Storage Mode enabled on your Media Card (Options > Media Card) and then you can drag/drop files from your PC to the Media Card as it will appear simply as a removable drive.

  • ROXIO MEDIA MANAGER - Desktop manager

Just got my Storm 9530! All is good except when installing Desktop Manager 4.7 the installation process stops when it tries to install Roxio Media Manger. near the end of the installation I get this window:
Roxio Media Manager Error 1402 Could not Open Key\comctlistview\ctrl1/clsid
    and it backs out
I have tried several times to remove and install with no success. I have closed Norton utilities and windows firewall still got the same message. The SYNC portion is installed anmd working, but not the Media manager, which means I can't download photos form my PC. I run XP.
I also removed and reinstalled with Bell's version of the SW. No success either!
Bell was no help and said it's not their problem!
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks much
Message Edited by seafox on 03-13-2009 07:51 PM

Xandrex is correct. DTM can be installed without the Media portion and you can download media, photos, music ect, from your computer to the media card.
I don't give up easy and after being jerked around by Bell, I decided to see what Microsoft could do, since it looked to me like more of an OS problem.
Here is what MS came back with and it resolved the issue for me!
According to the error message, the most likely cause is that the current user account does not have the correct permissions to access related folders and registry keys.
I suggest we first try the steps below to reset the default permission on those folders and registry keys:
    1. Save the attachment of the email to your Desktop.
    2. Right click on the "Reset_subinacl.ZIP file" and choose "Extract"
    3. Follow the instructions to extract the files to your Desktop. There will be two files (reset.cmd and subinacl.exe) extracted.
    4. Double click the reset.cmd file
    5. You will see a DOS-like window processing.
Note: It may take several minutes, please be patient. When it is finished, you will receive a message stating "Finished, press any key to continue".
After the above steps are finished, let's try to install Desktop Manager 4.7 again.
If the issue still persist, we need to temporarily uninstall Norton program via Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs and try again.
Your time and efforts are highly appreciated. Please take your time in trying my suggestions and let me know the results at your earliest convenience. If you need any other assistance, please feel free to let me know and I will try my best to be of assistance.
I look forward to your reply.

I suggest that you contact MS yourself and get them to debug your problem. If you do by Email, it takes alittle longer but it's free!
BTW I verified the address and it's genuine MS Support.

  • Can't install or uninstall Desktop software and Roxio Media Manager has taken over

I had been having trouble with the Blackberry Desktop software crashing each time I closed it when I was done using it. This morning when I booted my computer I got an error message that said RoxWatchTray9 was unable to locate component. When I tried to close that box it attempted to install something but it just stalls. When I close try to cancel it just freezes. After while it tries to install again only to freeze again.
I figured the best solution would be to uninstall and reinstall the program but when I went into Add/Remove I discovered six listings for Blackberry Device Software for Blackberry 9530 smartphone, one for v5.0 and five for v4.7.0. I finally managed to uninstall the v5.0 at the top of the list but I can't remove the other five. I also can't reinstall the program. Roxio Media Manager continues attempting to force an install and is hogging my system resources. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Try this process (you might have to do step 2 multiple times for each instance of what is showing in add/remove programs):
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/WIN7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install DTM to your PC
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB17022 How to configure organizer applications for synchronization using BlackBerry Desktop Manager
Hopefully that will get things going again. You might also want to avoid Media Manager unless you really really need it.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Desktop Manager 5.0 and Roxio Media Manager hangup

Ok, I spent an hour researching posts on the forum, and not gettting anywhere.
    Here is the specifics:
    New Laptop with Windows XP-SP3
New Install of BB Desktop Manager 500_B28_Multilanguage
I use Sync to update my address book via Ascii one way.
    Did that once.  No Problem
Restarted my Laptop.  Now I get Windows Installer looking for Roxio Media Manager.msi and now I can't get rid of it.
I hit cancel, and it comes back.
Only thing in Add/Remove programs is Desktop Manager 5.0 and Blackberry Media Sync
Try to remove either one and I get that "Installation in progress" message.
If there is a problem with 5.0 why is a newer version correcting it not out?
Several posts refer to doing a "Clean Uninstall" (KB02206) of Blackberry Desktop Software, Several posts refer to (KB19218) Windows Installer Cleanup.
Before I get started, Is there a real solution?  If I do the Clean Uninstall and then again install 500_B28 am I going to hang everytime I start the computer while Installer looks for Roxio?
    Would someone please help me.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Twas obivous that I was going to get NO HELP from RIM, so I called my IT Dept.
Here is what I did so far.
    Open Task Manager.
In Applications, right click on RMM install process.
Left click on Go to Process.
This step puts you on ISUSPM.exe
    Left Click on End Process.
    Click OK.
Go back to Task Manager, select Processes
    find misexec.exe
    Left Click on End Process.
    Click OK.
Go to Add / Remove programs
    Uninstall Blackberry Desktop Manager
Uninstall using REMOVE all User settings
after 15 minutes, it finally removed RMM also
I ran Windows Install Cleanup Utility (290301)
verified no Roxio programs or BB programs were on the computer
    and restarted.
    So Far, So Good.
Now I have to decide if I want to put BBDM on with or WITHOUT the MM.

  • Desktop Manager 5.0 / Roxio Media Manager Fail to Install

I am getting error 1904 module when trying to install Desktop Manager 5.0 (see errors below). I am the administrator on this laptop (hpdv8130us).
I have tried the solution where you create a reset.cmd via notepad. Result was the same.
Also, I tried a clean installation and still receive the same errors.
If I hit okay to the errors the next step is that it tries to install Roxio Media Manager and that hangs after the progress bar is complete (I let it sit for 4 hours). When I go to cancel Roxio Media Manger, it also hangs there as well. The only to get past this screen was to enter task manager and end the "dumprep.exe" process. While this gets me past the hangs/freezes, when I start DM5 it works but when I go to start Media Manager, it opens but doesn't load, the computer still runs albeit slowly because Roxio is now using 85-95% of system resources.
Running Windows XP with the latest service pack.
These are the errors I receive when trying to install Desktop Manager 5.0

Hello qwick and welcome to the forums!
It sounds to me like the installer is having trouble registering some required dlls.  This article might help you out with this issue.
Also, do you know if you already have any Roxio Media Managers installed on your computer?  Did you have a previous version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed and if so, did you uninstall it before installing this new one or install the new one without uninstalling the previous version?
hope to hear from you soon

  • What is the problem with Roxio Media Manager??

I purchased my first Blackberry 8310 Curve on Black Friday. For some reason the Blackberry Desktop Manager installs and works absolutely fine. However when I open the media manager from Roxio the screen freezes and it doesn't even show my device. I have uninstalled cleanly and re-installed over a dozen times and can't get it to work. We also went and bought an updated graphics and sound card and have installed them. The Roxio media manager STILL freezes up and we have to shut it down.
I do a lot of Paintshop Pro and have those programs as well as other graphics software. I'm wondering if it is a software conflict? I don't see one. Or if the Roxio is a POS as someone posted before.
I have spent hours and hours reading everything I can online about it and can not find an answer anywhere. The main reason that I want the Media Manager is that I want to make my own ringtones....that's it! The rest I can do without it. Does the BB media manager have the capability to make ringtones?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  • Roxio Media Manager - It keeps trying to install itself

    Hi Everyone,
Roxio Media Manager continuosly tries to install itself and it won't go away.  I tried to uninstall it but a window pops up that states Windows Installer is running.  I tried to force quit the installer and/or Roxio, but I don't see anything in the processes panel.
I tried running registry cleaners, tried an aftermarket uninstaller program... nothing has worked.  What's worse, the Windows Installer window keeps popping up and interrupts everything I'm trying to do on the computer.  I can't even let it go in the background and ignore it.
Not only that, but it is also bogging down the processor immensly.
Everywhere I look on the internet, people keep suggesting a windows clean up utility from the Microsoft site, but that download is no longer available (apparently it too was causing problems)
The only other suggestion was http://forums.techarena.in/windows-xp-support/898890.htm and recommended that I download & reinstall "Desktop Manager 5.0.1 B73 Multilanguage with Media Manager", but that file is obsolete now and is no longer on the RIM site.
I'm at a total loss for what to do next.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!
