Roxio Toast: back DVD movie question

I'm trying to make a back of my DVD movie. First I'm trying to make an image file. But when I try to save as a disk image I'm told that it can't unmount the disc, even when all other programs are closed. Any help? I'm just trying to make a backup copy of my DVDs. Maybe there's a better way?

  • Backup across multiple DVD's (Deja Vu and Roxio Toast)

Can anyone suggest software in order to do this? I need to get some information off my internal and external drives to free up some room.
I'm running Deja Vu and they suggest "backing up to Roxio Toast" to do this but I'm not very familiar with this kind of thing and am hoping for a little hand holding.
I guess the deal is that I buy Roxio Toast, install it, select Roxio Toast as my backup volume and it will let me do "manual backups" of this source volume to a set of DVD's whenever I feel like it?
    Thanks.

    {quote}It is $50 and I am hoping to get advice as to whether this is a good investment or not. {quote}
I think it is a pretty good buy. I used the spanning feature several times and can't say I had any problems with it. It can even split a large file across multiple discs. The software has many other features and works so much better than burning discs in the Finder. Toast has been around for a long time and in my opinion it is still the king. My only gripe is that Roxio seems to be doing yearly upgrades and charging an arm and a leg for minimal new features.

  • Free cd/dvd burner for mac os 10.7 - the version i have is roxio toast but in os10.7.5 when i try to open app - it said  can't open app because powerpc apps arent supported ?

is there a free app download to burn cd/dvd for os10.7?

Depending on what type of CD/DVD you intend to burn, you may not need any 3rd party applications:
    - To burn data CDs or DVDs simply insert a blank disc, drag files to the empty FInder window that represents the disc, then click the burn button (I think t appears near the top of the finder window).
    - To burn music CDs just use iTunes
    - To create disk images from a CD or DVD use Disk Utility.  To burn .iso or .cdr images to disc use Disk Utility.
About the only type of disc burning that you may need a 3rd party application for is to create a DVD movie (iDVD used to do this but no longer a supported app).  I haven't ever needed anything outside of the built-in capabilities of OS X when it comes to burnig CD or DVD media.  One suggestion is to make sure to remove all of the Roxio software so that it doesn't interfere with the built-in OS X capabilities.
    Hope this heps.

  • Has anyone used ROXIO TOAST II for burning DVD

Has anyone used ROXIO TOAST II for setting up intro and burning to DVD. I used to do this in IDVD which has been abandoned in the Maverick

Just to say that that I've tested iDVD on 10.9 and it works for me. It's a discontinued program of course, and hasn't been supported for several years, but I don't think it runs any differently on 10.9 than it did on say, 10.6.
However…can't help you with Toast because I don't use it.

  • Importing AVCHD  video archived onto DVDs using Roxio Toast ?

Can Final Cut Express import AVCHD video that has been archived onto DVDs using Roxio Toast 10 Titanium? The video is originally shot on an AVCHD camcorder (Canon HF-10), then burned into DVDs preserving the AVCHD files using Roxio Toast Titanium. I'm just wondering if you can simply insert the DVDs and import the AVCHD files into FCE. Has anyone tried it? Does it work?

The only thing that matters is that the entire folder structure is preserved from the chip. If the software is picking out the video files then it will not work. The whole folder structure which is a data wrapper for the media is needed by FCE. It doesn't matter if you use Toast or Disk Utility to make the data disc.

  • Has anybody bought toast roxio to burn dvd's using the lion?

Since the new mac OSx lion doesn't have idvd or ilife you can't burn dvd from imovie.  I was wondering if anyone has bought toast roxio for macs to burn dvds.  Would it be worth buying?  Any input would be appreciated.

As a total burning suite, Roxio Toast is excellent and worth every cent. I have been using it for ten years or more and the later releases are super stable and haven't had a disc burning error for a couple of years. A bit limited in themes as babowa mentioned, if that is important to you. But as an overall Mac compatable burner, 5 stars from me. Not cheap, so weigh it up against iLife '11 for your overall needs.

  • How to turn VOB files into DVD Movie

I came across a computer that had something like a "DVD MOVIE" file.
It was basically vob files packaged inside a "DVD MOVIE" so when you clicked on it, it would
play like a dvd movie.  I have extracted some VOB files from a DVD disc to have
a "VIDEO_TS" folder containing the movie, but of course I can only play the VOB files
in a program like VLC...my question is - What do i need to do to put these vob files into
this "DVD FILE" folder or whatever so i can just click on it and it play a normal dvd?
It may have said "Movie file".......thanks.

I use Roxio Toast which converts and burns the VIDEO_TS folder with the VOB files into a playable DVD. It does not come cheaply but is well worth the money. There are also a lot of converters around that will shrink and convert your VOB files to .avi or .mp4 or whatever you prefer. Just do a google search or go to the App Store. MPEGStreamclip is a free program that is an excellent converter.

  • About  Roxio Toast 8 Titanium software

In case I can't use the Yamaha CD burner with OS X (an issue I posted earlier) I'm looking to perhaps replace it. I still have to check some solutions but
I read about the Roxio Toast® 8 Titanium software
How does this work ? Do I install it on the Mac OS X and then the tray on my computer that for the moment can only read (CD and DVD-ROM) will be able to write too ?
Or do I still need a CD burner hardware ? And if so, can I use the Yamaha CRW2100FXZ which use Adaptec Toast version 4.1.2. ?
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi,
Speed is absolutely of no importance to me.
I only use it to back up data (files, folders, photos, etc). If it takes 20 minutes, I do something else, cleanup my desk, take a snack, whatever.
If you're only going to burn cd's, you'll need about 1.4Gb of space. The application itself is less than 200M.
I checked my MacIntosh HD and it has a
    capacity of 9.54 GB.
    Used: 8.7 GB
    Available: 860 MB
I cannot change the 8.7 GB ; they are all technical folders (System Folder, Applications, etc.) Only 233MB are personals
So I cannot install much here: You say I need 1.4 GB for this software alone. If I cannot install this on the external drive, then I'm in trouble because I need to install a film scanner too and I cannot install it elsewhere than on the HD.
Perhaps I will post another topic since we are moving away from Toast (the topic is "about Roxio Toast® 8 Titanium software") and I want to speak in general about what can and cannot be installed on a external drive.
Can't say for sure if using the external drive will help. Toast 4 / 5 used to allow you to specify the scratch disk to use, but Toast 7 doesn't. Perhaps I should read the manual.
Well reading is good. You don't have to read the whole manual only the installation page. If you could, that will be great. I wrote to Roxio a few days ago with a question unrelated to this and still no answer.

  • Roxio Toast 10 Titanimum??

I'm fairly new to Mac computers. I had one many year ago for a short time, had hardware problems (must have been a lemon) so went back to PC and decided to come back to Mac computers about 4 weeks ago. (So far i'm very glad i did) OK here's my question. Does a person really need a program like Roxio Toast to be able to burn cd's?? On my old iMac (years ago) I had Toast Titanimum version 5 (which won't load on my new iMac ... I tried) because i seemed to need it to burn CD's but on new Macs do we really need an extra program to be able to burn Cds? Can I burn CD's right from my new iMac as it is without the added $99 program? (I know i can burn cd's from Garage Band and Logic express 8)
I'd appreciate some guidance before I dish out $99 on a Toaster program I may not need.

To explain a little further: Toast is a must-have when you want to burn special formats like hybrid discs with custom settings or for unclosed session burns, etc. It is also useful for making DVD player compatible discs out of other video material by encoding it and creating a menu if desired. It is also the only way to burn Bluray video.
So, Toast can be really useful, but chances are you might not need it, because you won't use its features. Like TD already said: If all you need is simple data/audio/photo CDs, you can burn with the respective apps and/or directly in Finder.

  • Pismo users! How do you Toast a DVD?

    Hey Pismo users,
Does anyone have start to finish step by step instructions on how to burn a DVD copy of a DVD on a G3 with 256 MB RAM, a 10 Gig HD, running Panther OS X at 400Mhz via Toast 6 Titanium? I'm using NexxTech DVD-R 4.7 8x blank disks. Is it even possible on a Pismo with these specs?
Either I'm doing something wrong and don't know the steps, or my computer is simply not capable of burning a DVD at all! Going through the finder was of no use. That is why I purchased the Toast in the first place. If anyone has a 400 Mhz Pismo and has successfully Toasted a DVD, (with, or without Roxio) I'm all ears!
I almost forgot. My burner drive is an internal Toshiba CD/DVDW SDR6572M.
Thanks in advance for any help at all,
A Little Fish in the BigMac Pond

    Okay Pismo users!
I've found all my own answers. Boy was I in the class of the ignorant & uninformed. I do lectures that are videotaped and I need to duplicate those lectures, because people actually want to buy them from me.
Unfortunately, they want them on DVD & CD - as opposed to the videotape & audiotape. To date, I've had to get other people to copy the lectures onto discs, wait to get them back, and hand write the title on the disc, then ship them out.
Too much time and the unprofessional looking handwriting prompted me to invest in a Toshiba Notebook LightScribe iBook PowerBook Pismo 8X DL (dual layer) DVDRW burner so I could burn them myself with a professional looking etched in label. I bought the drive from here:
    http://stores.ebay.com/savvyshoppers.com
Here are all my own answers:
    1) Step by step burning/Toasting instructions can be found here:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/125996
    and here;
    http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=156359
    and here:
    http://www.recipe4dvd.com/toast.html
    2) My Pismo needs at least 15 free GB HD space to make video DVD's. So I need to upgrade, because I only have appx 5 GB free.
    3) I didn't know what I was doing & my Pismo is capable of burning a DVD.
    4) As far as the discs. I had no idea what all the numbers, dashes, spins, etc even meant until I went here:
    http://www.videohelp.com/dvd.htm
    and here:
    http://dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#4.2
    5) If you need further clarity, then there is a Q & A forum here for burning with Mac:
    http://www.ripdifferent.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=26
    6) Although I don't need to do movies, because I rarely watch them, if you need to back up yours, then you can check here if you're using OS X and disk utility:
    http://www.dvd2one.com/osxutil.php
and here if you're using OS X and Toast:
    http:www.dvd2one.com/osxtoast.php
    7) For what I'm doing, I didn't even need to invest in the Toast.
Good Luck! Hopefully you won't have to swim around the way I did.

  • Loss of quality of exported DVD movie on TV when compared to Digital original

    Hi
Can anyone please suggest a way to limit the loss in quality when burning a completed movie to a DVD for TV playback?
When I playback on my Mac monitor (in either MPEG or H.264 saved versions) the image quality is 'mint' and seems as clear/rich as it was filmed.
However, once I have exported (using various 'best options' availible to me in via Prem Pro export menus) the SD (and Blu-ray) DVD playback on a TV seems a long way away from the quality level of the digital original still playing on my Mac.
I am prepared for a drop in quality in both SD and even HD formats due to the compression processes, but I'm still disapointed with how amazing my digital copy looks compared to my best DVD efforts.
Why is it that commercial 'hollywood' SD are still miles apart from my 'home made' version?
Can anyone please suggest their tried/test 'digital alchemy' formular for getting fantastic results onto a DVD/TV playback, please?
    Here are my current details/settings:
Canon 5d and XF300 to capture 1080p 25 fps footage (timeline created to match footage)
CS5.5 platform = Premiere Pro/After Effects/Media Encoder/Encore (and burn saved ISO image using Roxio Toast version 10)
Length of edits = 40 to 50 minutes (approximately) creating HD but mainly SD event movies.
Create HD but mainly SD versions
Export out of Prem Pro = MPEG or MPED-DVD/Blu-ray H.264
    Video Quality = 5
Field order = None/Progressive (matching my original source footage)
    VBR 2 = Min 7/Target 8/Max 8.5 or CBR 8
    Use Maximum Render Quality
Could the issue be with what happens after the export from PremPro into Encore?
What else could/should I be doing?
All constructive comments are very weclome and appreciated ...
    Thanks,
    B

Why is it that commercial 'hollywood' SD are still miles apart from my 'home made' version?
Because they use super-expensive hardware compression.
Still, I make DVDs that look almost exactly like the output from Pr using my Kona card.
I wonder if you're ending up with double-compression on your DVD.  And maybe I'm confused here, but it sounds like you're using Toast and Encore, and I see no reason for that, if so.
There are a few ways to get to DVD from Pr.  The simplest may be just to send your Pr project to Encore, using Dynamic Link.  That will ensure you're only compressing once.
Another is to export from Pr or AME using a DVD preset, and when you take the resulting MPEG2 to Encore, be sure your clips are set to "Don't transcode."  And use the comparable strategy for BR.
CBR at 8 should yield you stunning looking DVDs.

  • DVD movie skips and breaks up when playing on tv

Ok, I have made a DVD using iDVD 08 and it works perfect for all my movies and slideshows (in my dvd player) except one.
There is one movie that breaks up or skips forward when I try and play it.
The movie seems fine in imovie and plays on my Mac with no errors!
I am at a loss what to do to fix this? Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

My guess is you can't fix this type of issue. It depends largely on the dvd player and secondly on your media and the burn speed you chose.
You can try burning a disc image from the file menu in iDvd and then lowering the burn speed to 4x or lower. Use verbatim and Maxell for best results. A third option would be to try a quality DVD Lens Cleaner kit from either Maxell or 3M. (don't use less expensive brands since they can actually cause more issues than they solve).
Btw .... Disc Images burned with Roxio Toast (as opposed to iDvd) to quality media such as those already mentioned above often play well on a wider variety of set tops under these circumstances ....
    Good luck on this.

  • Roxio Toast 9 or Toast 8?

    Hello All,
Im interested in purchasing Roxio's Toast application but i have read mixed reviews over the new version 9. Does anybody have any advice or more information.
    Thanks
    Al

Have bought the Toast Titanium 9 and have to say that there's something strange with this softeare. It fails to burn DVD:s. I've tried to copy a DVD movie I myself created on iMovie/iDVD, but got an error message "Interface Error:-32030, The Connection is not stable", or the system crashes and I need to restart the computer. These both occur after the copy process is done and when the burning session starts, at the point when the lead in has been written. It may be a bug in the Toast 9 or Max OS ? However I would not suggest to to upgrade before this problem is cleared.

  • Creating a DVD movie

Trying to create a movie dvd. I select the project and click on share. The drop down list does not have IDVD as an option. I can right click on the project and get a drop down list that has "share idvd" as an option. After clicking this option it processes the movie and then stops. Any ideas?

    Hi
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
    • iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
    • DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
    • Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
    • Burn - only free alternative I know of on internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
only You can buy from Apple is
    • FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.
