RPD file upgrade from 10g to 11g error:  Error in starting opmn server

Dear All,
We have to upgrade an RPD repository file and the catalog from 10 g to 11 g. We use the Oracle Fussion Middleware Upgrade Assistant tool.
BI Service (BI server version: 11.1.1.6).
The operation failed, and we got the following error message:
[2013-09-06T12:03:51.117+02:00] [BIEE] [ERROR] [upgrade.BIEE] oracle.as.management.opmn.optic.OpticException: Error in starting opmn server[[ Operation aborted because of a system call failure or internal error   at oracle.as.management.opmn.optic.OpmnAdmin.executeCommand(OpmnAdmin.java:310)   at oracle.as.management.opmn.optic.OpmnAdmin.startOpmnServer(OpmnAdmin.java:87)   at oracle.ias.upgrade.config.oraclebi.OPMNUtil.startOpmn(OPMNUtil.java:46)   at oracle.ias.upgrade.config.oraclebi.OracleBIConfigUpgrade.doUpgrade(OracleBIConfigUpgrade.java:118)   at oracle.ias.upgrade.UpgradeSupport.doUpgrade(UpgradeSupport.java:1823)   at oracle.ias.upgrade.gui.UAUpgradeThread.run(UAUpgradeThread.java:503)It is curious because the core applications are running (I performed the command "./opmnctl start" successfully) and I can open and use the services like WebLogic Administration Consol, Enterprise Manager, BI Enterprise Edition (Analytics) , BI Publisher etc.
But if I open the enterprise manager the core applications under the tab Fusion Middleware are marked with red (not running)
See screen shot regarding the overview:
http://s24.postimg.org/vdg0o83fp/enterprise_manager.png
If I click on the Core application link the core appilcations are marked with green (they are running).
See screen shot regarding the Core Applications:
http://s10.postimg.org/ogba45ke1/core_app.png
Problem:
the core applications are displayed as down in Enterprise Manager.
I restarted the core applications in the Enterprise Manager successfully but under the tab Fussion Middleware they are still displayed as not running.
Does anybody ever had a problem like this. Thank you!
Regards, Robert

ok, since installing multiple versions of oracle is a common practice, I will do both on same machine and try them out.

  • Oracle Upgrade from 10g to 11g [BRANCHED BY MODERATOR]

    Hi Deepak/Folks,
Another question that I have is that while doing the Oracle Upgrade on an EP server, the patches were not installed properly and I had to shut down the Patches installation after it did not do anything for a while.
Now when I try to install the patches it fails telling me that the Installed patches cannot be verified, I had written to SAP and they told me to follow the

    and re-create the oracle  inventory.
This has also not helped in anyway.

  • Error in starting opmn server

    Hello,
Note: I posted this thread on the Identity Management forum as well. I wanted to post it here too, as I think my problem may be a more generic Application Server one, instead of one specific to Identity Management. If this is improper etiquette, I apologize.
I have a VM, which is being administered by VMware Lab Manager. The VM is running RHEL 5.1, and has an Oracle 11g database installed.
I am in the process of trying to install and configure Oracle Internet Directory 11g. To do this, I ran the Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Oracle Identity Management Installer. I selected the "Install Software - Do Not Configure" installation type, and chose to "Configure without a Domain" in order to avoid having to install and administer a WebLogic domain. I set "/data1/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.1" as the Oracle Middleware Home, and "Oracle_IDM1" as the Oracle Home Directory. (To simplify things below, let ORACLE_IDM_HOME refer to the /data1/u01/app/oracle/product/11.1.1/Oracle_IDM1" directory... understand that no environment variable exists with this name though.) The installation routine ran successfully.
But, I ran into a problem while trying to configure the Oracle Identity Management 11g components. I ran the Oracle Identity Management 11g Release 1 Configuration Wizard (ORACLE_IDM_HOME/bin/config.sh). Here are some of the key configuration values that I entered:
    - Oracle Instance Location: /data1/u01/config/oracle/as_admin/asinst_1
    - Oracle Instance Name: asinst_1
    - Select Domain: Configure without a Domain
    - Configure Components: Oracle Internet Directory
    - Configure Ports: Auto Port Configuration
    - Specify Schema Database: Create Schema
After entering my configuration values and hitting the Configure button, the configuration process started running. Shortly thereafter, under Bootstrap Domain Configuration, "Failed" appeared next to the "Create ASInstance" line, with the following error listed:
    {code}
    Error creating ASInstance asinst_1
Cause: An internal operation has failed: Error in starting opmn server
Operation aborted because of a system call failure or internal error
    {code}
In case it would be helpful, here is the output from the error log for the Oracle Identity Management 11g Configuration Wizard:
    {code}
    oracle.as.provisioning.util.ConfigException:
    Error creating ASInstance asinst_1.

To get more information, I tried to manually start the opmn server (I set ORACLE_INSTANCE to "/data1/u01/config/oracle/as_admin/asinst_1" and then ran "./opmnctl start" from the ORACLE_IDM_HOME/opmn/bin directory). As expected, the server failed to start. But, I checked the opmn.out file (in the ORACLE_INSTANCE/diagnostics/logs/OPMN/opmn directory), and found the following error repeated several times:
    {code}
OPMN worker process exited with status 8b. Restarting.
OPMN worker process exited with status 8b. Restarting.
OPMN worker process terminated with signal 11 7 times in 10 seconds -- aborting!
    {code}
Does anyone know what this error means? I am at a loss as to what to do at this point, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you!

For what it's worth.... I ran into the same thing on a Linux 64 bit Oracle Enterprise Linux box I had set up. I was just able to resolve the issue after many failed attempts.
According to the log the instance is actually created successfully, but when opmnctl startall command is called immediately afterwards that's when the badness happens, and it just associates the opmnctl start failure to the ASInstance creation. So I decided to call opmnctl startall from the command line immediately after the failure. At that point SELinux started notifying me that a bunch of lib*.so files that opmnctl needed were being blocked when it was called. I went ahead and disabled the entire SELinux functionality and it worked after that!
To turn off SELinux edit /etc/selinux/config file. Edit the following line:
    SELINUX=disabled
Then restart linux, and rerun the OBIEE config again.
Good Luck, hope that helps someone

    h1. UPDATE:
I just needed internet access to download the sysstat and compat-db packages, once installed I disconnected from the internet and re-run the installation, once again, it went fine without problems and opmn and OID are up and running. Also, I enabled the firewall which was disabled during the first installation.
Here is the list of packages needed as pre-requisites:
    gcc-4.1.0-28.4, gcc-c++-4.1.0-28-4, setarch-1.6-1, libstdc++-4.1.0, libstdc++-devel-4.1.0, compat-libstdc++-2.96, control-center-2.8.0, glibc-common-2.3.4-2.9, binutils-2.16.91, make-3.80 on top of sysstat-5.0.5-1 and compat-db-4.1.25-9.
There are 3 configuration files for opmn: instance.properties, opmn.xml and ports.prop..... and for OID: component-logs.xml

  • ODI Procedures not working after upgrading from 10G to 11G

    Hello Gurus,
We have run into a scenario where the procedures in ODI are not working after we upgraded it from 10G to 11G (11.1.1.6). However we can make it to run if we create the procedure from scratch.
Also we are having issues related to packages where in the packages were running before we applied the patch 11.1.1.6.3. And after applying the patches they are not running.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks

If you want someone to help you, please be elaborate in the exact errors you are getting.
A general statement would do nothing but guess work.
What is the error that you get while executing the procedure.
What are the exact issues that you get while executing packages ?

  • Check list for upgrading from 10g to 11g when there is a schema replication

    Hi
We are looking to upgrade one of our production database from 10g to 11g
Currently this database has one schema that is replicated to 2 other databases using Oracle streams.
The replication is excluing DDLs and excluding several other application tables.
What should I do pre and post the upgrade ?
should we remove the stream configuration all together and rebuild it after the upgrade ?
I was hoping that we can first upgrade the two target databases to 11g and then the source database, without impacting our streams configuration at all
    Is that possible ?
Is there any documentation on the subject ?
    thanks in advance
    Orna

Pl post the OS versions of the source and target servers, along with exact (4-digit) versions of "10g" and "11g". I do not have any experience with streams, but the 11gR2 Upgrade Doc suggests that you upgrade the downstream target databases first before upgrading the source - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e10819/upgrade.htm#CIAFJJFC

  • Forms HOST command no longer works after database upgrade from 10g to 11g

    Hi,
After upgrading the database 10g to 11g the forms HOST command no longer works on Unix server. The form used to work fine prior the upgrade. I read all the threads I could find and did not see any solutions. Adding PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH does not work because it does not even run a basic shell script. (I saw this solution, adding PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH, in many questions / threads).
    1. I wouldn't expect the database upgrade to be an issue, but it is the only change we had.
    2. Note, 11g is Oracle Fusion Middleware which is quite a bit different than 10g.
I even tried the most basic commands like "echo" which is a build-in Unix command and there is no directory for it (ie. no /usr/bin - so variable PATH is irrelvent). i.e HOST('echo hi'); and HOST('echo "hi" '); and even HOST ('echo hi > /my_file.txt'); all returns FORMS_FAILURE (actually the if is IF FORM_SUCCESS THEN ... else ... and the else part always runs now - whereas it didn't before.).
Or basic commands like /usr/bin/ls as in HOST(/usr/bin/ls). At that point I was just testing the Unix command would return FORM_SUCCESS even though I could not see the results (because they weren't writing to a log file). Notice that I'm using the direct path /usr/bin so no Unix environment variables were needed.
The form does use webutil but that part works. For example, we have webutil_file_transfer( ....) The file shows up on the application server and in the expected directory.
Here's the main goal. Upload a file from clients local PC to the datebase server. The form uploads the file to the Application server, then we have a Unix script to scp (secure copy) the file from the application server to the database server. IF webutil, or any other Oracle functions could put the file on the database server that would be better. But, I don't know of any procedures that do that - or would have done it cleanly (i.e. storing to database and write back to server and then using a blob etc. )
Anyway, I was hoping someone would help with either of these.
    1) Get the HOST command to work. - If we can get that to work then I wouldn't need any more help. We can just call the already existing Unix script to copy the file from the application server to the database.
    2) OR be able to upload directly to the database server - wanted to do that originally
    Any help would be appreciated

Solution for those interested and for anyone else searching this forum for a solution
I found this on My Oracle Support:
<h3>Host Command from Forms Not Working in 11g in Sun Solaris Sparc OS [ID 1157346.1]</h3>
Applies To: Oracle Forms - Version 11.1.1.1.0 and later
    Sun SPARC Sun OS
    Symptoms:
When trying to execute a Shell script or any OS command using the host() Built-in from Forms 11g, the host()command is not getting executed. The same functionality works on other operating systems and in previous versions like 10gR2.
    Steps to be followed:
    1) Take a backup and edit the $DOMAIN_HOME/config/fmwconfig/servers/WLS_FORMS/applications/formsapp_11.1.1/config/default.env or any custom environment file.
    2) Locate the following environment variable:
    LD_PRELOAD=/ora10gas/app/11.1.0/Middleware/as_1/jdk/jre/lib/sparcv9/libjsig.so
    3) Comment out this variable. After the changes, it will look like the following:
    #LD_PRELOAD=/ora10gas/app/11.1.0/Middleware/as_1/jdk/jre/lib/sparcv9/libjsig.so
    3) a) Instead of LD_PRELOAD, kindly use LD_PRELOAD_64 as given below :
    LD_PRELOAD_64=/ora10gas/app/11.1.0/Middleware/as_1/jdk/jre/lib/sparcv9/libjsig.so
(This makes HOST AND RUN_REPORT_OBJECT work fine).
    4) Save the file and execute your forms. The Host() built-in will work as expected
The LD_PRELOAD setting in default.env is only required for the working of signal chaining facility in JVM version 1.5 and later. If you are not using theSignal chaining facility, this variable is not required. For more information, refer to the following documentation
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/doc.1111/e14772/forms.htm#CJAJGAFF

  • UPgrade from 10g to 11g

    Dear All,
I am using 10.2.0.1 database and planning to upgrade to 11.1.0.6 and while executing the utlu102i.sql I found the database is using the old timezone.
    SQL> select * from v$timezone_file;
    FILENAME VERSION
    timezlrg.dat 2
The issue is there is no patch available for the timezone upgrade for the windows platform in metalink.
    Questions?
    1. How can I upgrade the Time zone version before upgrading the database to 11g, if there is no patch available.
    2. It is mandatory to upgrade the timezone or 11g will automatically upgrade it.
    3. If I will go for the database upgrade without updating the timezone, will update fail.
    4. Do I have to upgrade the timezone to the current database (10.2.0.1) and then install the 11g binaries and start the upgrade or install the 11g binary first and apply the patch on 11g and then start the database upgrade.
Below is the some part of the output of utlu102i.sql

    Eagarly waiting for your response.
    Thanks in advance.

    1. How can I upgrade the Time zone version before upgrading the database to 11g, if there is no patch available.
See Metalink Document How To Apply The V4 DST Patches To Windows Clients or Servers [ID 417893.1], this should help you here.
    2. It is mandatory to upgrade the timezone or 11g will automatically upgrade it.
You will need to update the Timezone to V4 prior to attempting an upgrade
    3. If I will go for the database upgrade without updating the timezone, will update fail.
Yes that upgrade will not work without first updating the timezone for the 10.2.0.1 database you have
    4. Do I have to upgrade the timezone to the current database (10.2.0.1) and then install the 11g binaries and start the upgrade or install the 11g binary first and apply the patch on 11g and then start the database upgrade.
The binary installations can be handled separately, however no upgrade operations can happen until the DST v4 is taken care of for the upgrade.

  • Upgrading from 10g to 11g

    Hi,
Is it possible upgrade OBIEE version 10g to version 11g and keep the database versjon 10.2.0.3?
Basically does the upgrade (or version of OBIEE) depend on the version of the database?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Sailesh,
OBIEE 11g installation needs that Fusion Middleware Database schemas (BI_PLATFORM and BI_MDS in this case) are already created on a supported database by RCU. The supported Oracle databases for holding the schemas are like
    "Oracle 10.2.0.4+

After patching OIM 11.1.1.5.0 to BP02 I am getting following error in logs of OIM and not able to see Import Deployment Manager File and..continuously this error bounce back

Earlier before patching to BP02 in weblogic Datasources we have
    Driver Class Name: oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource
But when I was providing this value in weblogic.profile during patching attribute name "operationsDB.driver=oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource ", I am getting this error
    /data/oim/Oracle/Middleware/Oracle_IDM1/server/setup/deploy-files/setup.xml:204: java.lang.ClassCastException: oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource cannot be cast to java.sql.Driver
So I changed this value to "operationsDB.driver=oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver" and it runs fine. Patch completed successfully.
Is there any issue with this Driver Class Name mismatch, so I am getting this error? I have also tried for all Datasources same Driver Class Name but invain.
    Regards,
    Amit

    Hi Bikash,
Nothing is changed between network/firewall. From Database machine I am able to see tnsping running fine. From weblogic admin console I have checked the connectivity of different datasource is successfull. Right now I have these datasources, all have Driver Class Name=oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver.
    EDNDataSource
         EDNLocalTxDataSource
         mds-oim
         mds-owsm
         mds-soa
         oimJMSStoreDS
         oimOperationsDB
         OraSDPMDataSource
         SOADataSource
         SOALocalTxDataSource
You mean For all the datasources I need to make it oracle.jdbc.xa.client.OracleXADataSource. I make it this also but no success.
Also tell me..Summary of Security Realms >myrealm >Providers >OIMAuthenticationProvider here also I need to provide Xadatasource Driver name.

  • After Upgrade OBI 10g to 11g:Odbc driver returned an error - SQLExecDirectW

    Hi all,
for an OBI upgrade from 10g to 11g I used a RPD and Webcatalog based on a remote machine other than my local machine. Firstable I am making the tests on a Linux Virtual machine, which uses the Sample Lite version from Oracle.
    I made the following steps:
    1. I upgraded the RPD and Webcatalog. It worked without any errors.
    2. I set the static variable BI_EE_HOME via Administration Tool to the path in the Linux machine.
--> Here I am not sure if the set path is correct. It begins with: \bi\ ...\instances\...\coreapplication_obis1 (... : I can't mention here the whole path name).
--> When the OBI Server is installed in Windows, the mentioned static variable points to something like 'C:\<install folder>\...\coreapplication_obis1'
--> Question: is the begin of my set path correct?. I set that pointing to the Linux OBI Server, because the OBI Server is installed on Linux.
    Problem:
After login as the user in RPD: Administrator/<Password for my upgraded RPD> I can see the links in the Catalog and the Dashboards links. But I can not see any values, any Reports when going through the links.
For example when trying to see a Dashboard with date 12.02.2011it happens:
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
    Status: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] general error.
[nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS.
    [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed:
[nQSError: 17001] Oracle Error code: 12154, message: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    at OCI call OCIServerAttach.
[nQSError: 17014] Could not connect to Oracle database. (HY000)
    SQL Issued: SELECT "Dimension_-_My Dimension"."MyDimension" saw_0 FROM "Accounting (ACC)" WHERE "Dimension_-_My Dimension"."MyDimension" LIKE 'J%' ORDER BY saw_0
I think its not retrieving the data from the remote database, because I don't have the data of the remote database in my local. I think the OBI Server still is pointing to the local virtual machine Oracle database.
Can anybody tell me what happens here and how can I solve this problem?.
    I would appreciate any help....

    Hi gerardnico,
I've tried many things and did as in your articles, but I don't have success with that.
These are the things I did:
    1. I searched for the file tnsnames.ora in my Linux virtual machine. I could find it in many paths:
    /.../Oracle_BI1/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/hs/admin/tnsnames.ora.sample
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/temp/tnsnames.ora
    /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin
in the last path I found the listener.ora as well.
    2. I took the tnsnames.ora from the last path, because the ORACLE_HOME points to /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server
    3. I edited the tnsnames.ora this way:
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File:
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = host_of_the_remote_machine)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = database_name_of_the_remote_machine)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = database_SID_of_the_remote_machine)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    4. I made a backup of the tnsnames.ora in path /.../Oracle_BI1/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
and copied the tnsnames.ora from /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin to the Oracle_BI1 path
    5. I set the TNS_ADMIN to /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin
    6. I restarted the BI Server
No success in what I did. The error is still there.
    7. I've tried also: sqlplus database_user_remote_machine/database_password_remote_machine@database_SID_remote_machine
    I didn't get the connection:
    SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Thu Jun 16 04:36:10 2011
Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    ERROR:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    Enter user-name: database_user_remote_machine
    Enter password:
    ERROR:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
What am I doing wrong here?. I am still thinking that I need the import of the database.
Additional SID=Service-Name=Database-name in the remote machine.
