Rpd warning

How to resolve following warning in the rpd
The name "SH"."Fcst"."Qty" has leading or trailing space(s) in it

a) check if it in fact has any spaces
b) check it at Presentation layer - remove any aliases it might have - and do the same as in a) - it should fix it...

When i'm running global consistency checker, it throws the following warning.
**Error no: 38128**
Presentation level. "presentation subject area"."presentation table". "presentation hierarchy table"."hierarchy detail " has no display columns.

Hello,
Did you set any "Use for display" at any level in the hierarchy of the dimension in question.
Go to hierarchy with the error in the BMM go to each of its levels to find a level that has no key marked "Use for display"
Remove the hierarchy from the Presentation Layer which was already created, and again drag from the BMM Layer for your changes to come into effect.

Error while upgrading OBIEE10g RPD to 11g Cannot release MBean - not locked

Hi,, I have successfully installed OBIEE 11g and now truing to upgrade 10g RPD to 11g RPD using Upgrade Assistant. The process gets failed with following error in the LOG file;

while upgrading the RPD make sure that user weblogic server must be up and running including the all the BI Services.
first look into these servers and run the upgrade utility.

What is an rpd file and webcat file?

I find the reference to RPD file and web cat file almost everywhere. However, I have not been able to find:
1. the contents of the file
2. How it is created
3. Who creates it and How it can be viewed/modified?

Ok. Not quite sure what you want here.
1. The RPD is a binary file used by the BI Server to retrieve data from a source database. In the case of BI Applications this is the OBAW or BI Applications Data Warehouse. You can view its structures and settings using the BI Administration tool.
2. RPDs are created by the BI Admin Tool. This Oracle By Example tutorial shows how to create a complex RPD

3. Any user ID with the Administrator privilege in the RPD can create one. Yes that is weird but any new Administrator must be created by the default Administrator. Then a new "Administrator" can create or modify other users to have that role.
Webcat
1. The web cat is a collection of Reports and Dashboards that run against the BI Presentation Server. The Webcat can contain items that are not from the BI Server like BI Publisher reports or HTML content.
2. An empty webcat is created every time a new RPD is initialized.
3. The best tools to modify the webcat are the embedded HTML tools on the Presentation Server. There is a catalog manager tool but it is very powerful and without care you can quickly and easily make the catalog unusable. You have been warned ; - )

Bi_server1 warning error

I am using OBIEE11.1.1.6.6.in linux box.I am trying to restart my prod OBIEE services, when i login page hang.(Analytics report login page)
Few seconds later it will hanged again and it shows warning error in bi_server.

I do not see any issues in this log. However If I understand you correctly, after you log in to the dashboards by typing your username and password, the page hanged. If it is so, there could be an issue with any initialization blocks in your .rpd which you might want to check. There might be a variety of reasons again for this, the database connection could not have been successful, the connection error-ed out etc.
I would like to ask you one more question as well, what was the last activity on your server? Did you deploy any new .rpd?

I have come across the scenario where i have to add the Dummy Fact and dummy column for data densification between Fact and Dimension to see all possible result on answer set.
so I have created the Dummy Fact with Dummy column and done the Cartesian join between all dim with that Dummy fact with 1=1 in physical layer.
now in BMM I imported the Dummy fact and done same joins that I have with the other fact.
now when i create the criteria with dummy fact and orginal fact i m getting the consistency check error on report.
can some suggest me what to do in such case??

Global consistency warning.

I created a SA with four tables involved.Everything looked fine and I ran the reports for that rpd. Now I added one more table in the physical layer to create another SA involving just two tables. First it was a star schema in physical layer but after I involved this table it became a snow flake schema. But in BMM since the second SA involved only two tables I did not encounter this snow flake in BMM. First SA has 4 tables which is a star schem and second SA involved only two tables. Now after I am dome with everything and pulled the new SA to presenation layer and did a global consistency check I am getting a warning which says "39011 key “Subject Area2”.table.table_key#2 in logical table “Subject Area2.”table” is a superset or subset of another key in this table. Any redundant table key should be removed. What do i do to overcome this.

Check Global Consistency Warning

Greetings.
I have exported an EUL from the discoverer and got the RPD. Using that RPD I have created a Repository and it is fine till here.
But, when I try to check the global consistency after defining the Primary Keys and Foriegn Keys of the tables, it is showing a Warning as follows
"WARNINGS:GLOBAL: [39028] The features in Database 'AG_TEST' do not match the defaults. This can cause query problems."
So, Please someone help me resolve the issue.

Its not advisable to change DB features. Check whether the DB you are using is 10g or 11g.
if its 10g you should get this warning.
Most of the time you should not have a problem.
To ensure this you can deploy and do a through testing checking whether the results are obtained as expected. Also check the back end sql issued by OBI server.
wrongly changing the DB features will impact the server behavior and can bring erratic queries. ( yet you might not see issues in consistency check)
If you know what to change in DB features and know the impact of it then its fine. If not, better use the RPD as is as what you received.
Besides this is just a warning.

Process to assign a project to view or table while creating in RPD

Hi All,
I am looking for option to assign a view to a particular Project while developing/creating RPD .
Background : Created a view in production using MUD environment last week and reports relying on the view is working fine.Yesterday when i accessed the same RPD for addding additional columns view is unavailable.When contacted Admin they said that view is not assigned to any project.(Right click on view and selected project which is showing zero objects)
Process i followed to create a view :
1) Right click in physical layer of my project and new physical table and then added the query(It is joined with multiple tables) and i didnt deploy view(Today only i understood it leads to bad performance when it is fired).
Also i imported a table for testing purpose even that table is not assigned to any project.
Requesting to explain how we can assign a project while creating view/importing tables

Warning about added objects. When a person checks out a project, they have the ability to modify that project in any way and check it back in. Deletions and modifications are ways in which the integrity of the project is maintained. However, adding objects might introduce objects into the repository that do not belong to any project. Therefore, all project related objects are checked and if a new object is found, a warning message appears.
Caution:
You must add newly created metadata to the project definition in the master repository for it to be visible in future extracted versions of the project. For example, if a developer checks out a project, adds a new object, and then checks it in, the new object is not visible in extracted versions of the project until it is explicitly added to the project definition. See "Creating Projects" for instructions.

How to reimport relational table objects into RPD physical layer...

I am new to OBIEE. I am not sure how to reimport relational database tables into physical layer whenever the base database table structure changes.
How do I configure the ODBC or OCI 10G/11G connections on my computer so I can reimport objects into RPD on remote server.
I would appreciate it if you can give step by step instructions

Hello -
You can re-import a table to the Physical Layer the exact same way that you would import the table for the first time:
1) Click File > Import > From Database...
2) Select your data source connections
3) Choose your table you wish to reimport
The system will warn you that you will overwrite the existing table and may lose information. The information you would lose is any discrepencies in the physical layer that are no longer existing in the actual database table. However, logical columns will NOT be overwritten.
Alternately, if it is a minor change to the table (say a column name change, or one additional column added), you can also manually add the column
1) Right Click on the already imported table in the presentation layer and select New Object > Physical Column...
2) Name the column and provide the proper data type
The column now exists in the physical layer and will be properly associated with the new column in the database, assuming the same column name was attributed. You WILL have to drag this new column forward to the logical layer and presentation layer, as this will not be automatically done.

Removing Resolution Warning?

So I've bought an Apple mini-DVI to video adapter so I can use front row on my TV. One caveat - when I try to use any photos in front row, it will hang indefinately because iPhoto will open and display a warning that my output resolution is too low. No kidding... it's connected to a 10 year old TV. So I was wondering if there was any possible way to disable this warning permanently so I can use front row without having to get up and close the warning every time.

Output resolution too low...of the decade old boob-tube, huh? It's a shot in the dark, but apparently the resolution of the TV isn't compatible with the hardware/software mix.
I've never tried it, but perhaps resizing the images to a lower resolution might help? Maybe make a smart album of a test set of images. Dupe them and resize them to, what? 36ppi or something. Give that a shot?

I couldn't when this warning message comes. I tried to bind the server with webapplication which is created for host-named site collection. No use.
Can anyone help me to solve. And i wanna know why this error message comes!!!

First, you shouldn't create a host named site collection on a Web app that has host header named. Doing that implements host names at two different levels and will not work reliably. Second I'm not sure what you mean when you say you didn't
use the FQDN but used just the domain name. A Full url will always be either an FQDN or a shorter Netbios name. If you use a Netbios name it simply assumes the local AD domain of the workstation to create an FQDN as the url There is no way
to use just the domain name. For example, Contoso.com is the domain name. Server.contoso.com or WEbsite.contoso.com are FQDNs. YOu can also use a shorter version that is just server or website, but when those resolve in TCP/IP they would
still resolve using server.contoso.com or website.contoso.com if the workstation where your browser is was in the contoso.com domain. What is the URL for your root site and your host named site?

Warning message in ALV report

Hi Experts,
In ALV report i am getting warning like
" Field string LS_HEADER is not referenced statically"
Actually i declared this field as "DATA: ls_header TYPE slis_listheader.".
How to correct this warning message.

Dear Madhu,
You are not using LS_HEADER statically that you have defined in the program. You will get a warning message since you have defined a field that you have not referenced statically.
Are you using this field dynamically? You can delete/comment the code if you are not using it statically and dynamically.
