RR hardware platform recomendation

Is there any recomendation for RR fuctionality regarding cisco boxes

Hello Guru,
>> The recommendation is NOT to use 7206VXR Router for RR Design.
I don't agree I have seen incumbent provider networks using 7206VXR with NPE-G1.
If you have space in your racks you can use it
A RR server needs a very big memory and a powerful cpu and a pair of lan links
Hope to help

  • Cross hardware platform migration with Oracle VM

This is a cross hardware platform migration question. If I have Oracle on Solaris SPARC (64 bit) running in LDOM (currently known as Oracle VM for SPARC) and I want to convert this virtual machine to another virtual machine on Oracle VM Server 2.2 x86, is it possible?

No. this isn't possible - there are too many variables.

  • Is any 3rd party hardware/platforms  required to enable communi with SAP?

    Hi Gurus,
What server side hardware/platforms are required to enable communication with SAP mobile devices? What would be a typical production setup? Would there be any 3rd party components here that would require licensing?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Dharani

    Hi,
if you want to communicate with SAP Mobile devices - you need a SAP Netweaver installation in Mobile UsageMode. This is called the middleware system. It is not recommended to have this setup onn your Backend system but to have a dedicated server for it - cause of Workload, performance and monitoring.
If you run MI client on a PDA - then you need to install NSICom Creme as Java runtie on PDA - but the license is already included in SAP MI lizensing cost.
If you have to support larger Datasets, then you might need to install DB2e as persistence layer. This causes an additional licensing you need to pay to IBM - I think via SAP, but well, at the end you need to pay something on top if you run DB2e. The normal used persistence is free of charge. It is called FileIO up to MI7.0, with MI7.1 it is called MinDB.
So all you really need, is a dedicated Netweaver Mobile Box.
    Hope that helps!
    - oh I have seen - check your other post on that topic as well .--- this post here is for occasionally connected apps - this other post talks about MobileOnline as well---

  • Unable to create a new hardware platform in SDK from Vivado

I have exported a simple Vivado 2015.1 Hardware design to SDK 2015.1. I then open SDK to the correct workspace and take the following steps:
    1) File -> New -> Application Project
    2) I then name the project and click "New..." to choose the exported hardware platform from Vivado.
    3) I then name the hardware project and browse for my hdf or xml file.
    4) I select the .hdf file and click finish.
    5) The dialog box does not go away.
    6) I then click "Cancel" and can see that my harware platform is still not an option to choose from.
What could I be doing incorrectly?
    Thanks for the help!

  • What hardware Oracle recomends.

Can somebody tell me what is Oracle recomendation for hardware or what would be the top of the line Windows/linux 64 bit based hardware. ?
    Thx

Oracle does not recommend specific hardware. Oracle certifies against specific o/s versions and h/w - and even then it is not specific h/w models, but specific h/w ranges like for example 64bit AMD platform for Linux Redhat. Oracle will not recommend the Sun AMD model (like X4100) over the Dell or HP or whoever's AMD model. For obvious reasons.
I on the other hand does not suffer from strategic the h/w vendor relationships like Oracle. :-)
I recommend using Sun AMD models (V40Z, X4100, etc) running RHEL. They are excellent value for money and make robust Linux/Oracle/Web/App server platforms. At 70+ and counting I have no plans changing our h/w strategy for Linux and Oracle.

  • Migrating to other hardware platform.

    Hello, colleagues!
    We have a conceptual question.
Our client wants to migrate to other hardware platfom his SAP solution.
How we can reliaze that for him?
What the methods are in SAP practices?
We know such transfering can be realized by exporting of the SAP system. But this method is not recomended by SAP for production system.
    Thank You.

    Igor,
    Концептуальный ответ на концептуальный вопрос:
    Shortly speaking:
Migration to the new platform (aka Heterogeneous System Copy) of Prod system is supported by SAP, but you are required to use Migration Check. In other words SAP wants to hold your hand when you do it:
"The OS/DB Migration Check is mandatory if you are going to migrate a productive system".
    It  is explained here:
    http://service.sap.com/osdbmigration

  • How to test a migration to a new hardware platform ?

    Hello members,
    I read this procedure :
    http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14191/rcmrecov002.htm
    But it's related to 10g.
I have a 9.2.0.7 platform and i'd like to restore database on a new platform without stopping production.
I didn't install instance on the new platform, only binaries have been installed.
What is the best method to do that ?
    Many thanks for your help.
    Guillaume

If the platforms are binary compatiable you can copy the database files from one server to another and start the database on the new server. You want to use the same version of the OS. This will not work for moving from Sun to HP or even on the same vendor hardware if the hardware uses a different chip set (processor HP owns vs Intel inside).
But I like exp/imp. This allows you to lay out and build the new version of the database to match you new disk setup and to rearrange you database objects as desired for managment. (Recreate dictionary managed tablespaces as locally managed, separate very large table to its own tablespace, etc ...)

  • General License Question on change of hardware platform?

Suppose a customer is running their current non SAP B1 system under MS Server 2003, but they also are trying to go-live with SAP B1 on the same server with SQL 2005. So now they have license keys for SAP B1 with MS SQL 2005 under MS Server 2003.
Suppose they decide, it is best to upgrade to SQL Server 2008 R2. They purchase a new server for 2008R2 (as they do not want to upgrade 2003 to 2008 as it is running legacy applications).
My question is, we will have to create them new keys for SAP B1 under server 2008R2 and SQL2008 R2. Does SAP allow this and is it considered as the same number of seats as the originally purchased?
    Thanks.

    Hi Syed,
Yes, you will have to get a new license key for the SQL 2008 configuration.
The Hardware Key plays the role in the license key setup.  If you change your SQL Server the HW key changes. You will not need to worry  as you can get a  new license key for the SQL 08 setup holding  the same number of license seats as per your previous license did. By requesting a  change in license > system details to SAP for the customer by entering the New HW Key a New license will be generated with the same licenses seats as before but with the New HW key .
    Hope your issue is resolved.

  • Old data retrieval cross hardware platforms

    Oracle 11g
    A general question.
If we migrate over a period of time from 9i running on Solaris to having an 11g database on Linux with the same database block, how easy would be to retrieve the old taped data and query it from 9i?
Do we need to maintain an Oracle database (say 11g) on Solaris to speed up the import process? What are the best options to perform this in an efficient manner?
FYI, we are intending to move to a cloud like environment on Linux and we have been traditionally running Oracle on Solaris.
    Thanks

    Hi Kiraly,
I had considered that at first, when the eMac still had Panther installed (a while back).
Unfortunately, besides not owning a FireWire connector cable to connect it to my iMac, I didn't particularly want to lug that heavy eMac back up two flights of stairs...
I realized that the weight of install/restore CDs is about 1/1,000,000 that of the eMac... and that won out.

  • Cross hardware platform image cloning from Time Capsule

Currently have a mid-2009 17" MBPro and will be receiving a new 15" MBPro Retina in August. Question is if there is anything I need to be aware of if I wanted to merely image the new 15" out of the box from the backup image from the 17" via my Time Capsule backup? OS updates done regularly along with weekly virus scans, all clean and no current corruptions when doing a disk health check. Appreciate any and all feedback from the group.

I had the same question (Oracle on Alpha )
    and asked altavista ;+)
The answer is yes, but only shipped for x86.
I think, we ( the customers ) have to ask Oracle
for their products on different hardware plattforms...
    Pleas read this:

Maybe, DB2 runs on PowerPC, because IBM sponsors the
    Linux development on their plattforms.

  • Source different O/S and hardware from destination

What are the limitations on using Streams to move data between Oracle instances, when those instances differ by O/S and hardware platform?
We're working with a vendor to replicate from an Oracle instance 10gR2 running on an IBM server running AIX, and we're hoping to perform one-way replication into another 10gR2 instance running on an HP server with a Linux Red Hat O/S (both are 64-bit).
I came across this document yesterday, which mentions that it's a bad idea, although I haven't seen the same restrictions in the documentation:
    http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/~nimar/papers/vldb05.pdf
Namely, it mentions that in the 3rd & 4th point
    Operational Requirements for Downstream Capture
-The source database must be running at least Oracle Database 10g and the downstream capture database must be running the same release of Oracle as the source database or later.
-The downstream database must be running Oracle Database 10g Release 2 to configure real-time downstream capture. In this case, the source database must be running Oracle Database 10g Release 1 or later.
-The operating system on the source and downstream capture sites must be the same, but the operating system release does not need to be the same. In addition, the downstream sites can use a different directory structure from the source site.
-The hardware architecture on the source and downstream capture sites must be the same. For example, a downstream capture configuration with a source database on a 32-bit Sun system must have a downstream database that is configured on a 32-bit Sun system. Other hardware elements, such as the number of CPUs, memory size, and storage configuration, can be different between the source and downstream sites.
The reason why I'm concerned is that Oracle came to us about 8 months ago and sold us on Streams over DataGuard for a read-only direct copy of data. DataGuard was sold as being tied to having the recovery instance be as identical as possible to the source. They led use to believe that there were no such restrictions for Streams. So, we didn't add any provisions for purchasing a Replication tool. Now I'm thinking we might need to spring for ODI or something ...
Has anyone found differences in hardware and O/S to be a problem when using Streams?
    Thanks

    Sorry, wrong link initially.

I have no experience with downstream capture, which ships archives from one platform to another.
If you are not using downstreams, then heterognenous platform work fine over SQL*NET (dblink).
I have already operated in production Windows to Solaris multimaster Streams and would have gladly
exchanged the win box for your AIX.

  • Floating point formats: Java/C/C++, PPC and Intel platforms

    Hi everyone
Where can I find out about the various bit formats used for 32 bit floating numbers in Java and C/C++ for both Mac hardware platforms?
I'm developing a Java audio application which needs to convert vast quantities of variable width integer audio samples to canonical float audio format. I've discovered that a floating point divide by the maximum integer value gives the correct answer but takes too much processor time, so I'm trying out bit-twiddling in C via JNI to carve out my own floating point bit patterns. This is very fast, however, I need to take into account the various float formats used on the different platforms so my app can be universal. Can anyone point me to the information?
    Thanks in advance.
    Bob

I am not sure that Rosetta floating point works the same as PPC floating point. I was using RealBasic (a PPC basic compiler) and moved one of the my compiled applications to a MacBook Pro and floating point comparisons that had been exact on the PPC stopped working under Rosetta. I changed the code to do an approximate comparison (i.e. abs(a -b) < tolerance) and this fixed things.
I reported the problem to the RealBasic people and thought nothing more of it until I fired up Adobe's InDesign and not being used to working with picas, changed the units of measurement to inches. The default letter paper size was suddenly 8.5000500050005 inches instead of the more usual 8.5! This was not a big problem, but it appears that all of InDesign's page math is running into some kind of rounding errors.
The floating point format is almost certainly IEEE, and I cannot imagine Rosetta doing anything other than using native hardware Intel floating point. On the other hand, there is a subtle difference in behavior.
I am posting this here as a follow up, but I am also going to post this as a proper question in the forum. If you have to delete one or the other of these duplicate posts, please zap the reply, not the question.

  • Which Hardware shud i go? For this requirement.

    Hello all,
As per requirement, In Oracle 9i, 1000 tps(transaction per sec) requirement ( 60% insert update and 40 % search operations). Dose oracle 9i ( standard ed.) with 2 CPU machine will handle this requirement ?
What will be performance figure on LINUX/SUN in term of tps in oracle 9i standard ed.?
Could you all please suggest me for what hardware platform should i go and also what RAM should i use here.
Database Size will be apporx 10G
    Thanks in Advance!!
    Its urgent please....
    Pankaj

We have no idea what your hardware will be or whether these will be long running or short transactions or whatever.
Your question is not easy to answer; the only way of getting a definitive answer is to test your workload over a period of time.
For this there are tools which will load a system up : for example Hammer Ora or Swingbench are both freely available.
