RS480M2 and Audigy 2 freeze problem

Is there somehow who is able to run an Audigy 2 on a RS480M2 board?
I've done some googleing to realize that no one seems to be able to run an Audigy 2 on that board. After some time (10 minutes, 1 hours, some hours, etc.), the computer freezes. Some are talking about conflicts between the onboard LAN controller and the Audigy 2 both nobody made the combination work even when tweaking devices IRQ. Do somehow know how to make this work? Is there a way to disable the onboard LAN? It's not a very good solution, but I would still be able to use my Audigy 2.
My setup:
Antec 1080Amg (430W)
AMD64 3000+
MSI RS480M2
Audigy 2
1 Gig Corsair Value Select DDR400 Dual Channel
Raptor 74 Gig
As you see, the Audigy 2 causes problem with just the onboard peripherals.
Thanks for all your comments. I hope that MSI support is aware of that problem.

I have an RS480M2-IL and I'm running an Audigy 2 Platinum EX with no sound card issues so far.  I didn't do anything exotic in my BIOS settings.  I have some other problems but they are not sound card related.  The card is installed in the farthest slot from the CPU.  I had to use an adaptor to get the extra supply cable to the card because the ANTEC Aria doesn't come with a floppy power connector on the PSU.  I have  the external module installed as well with Firewire and MIDI ports and remote control all working.
The card works for Cubasis/Soundfonts and VST plugins such as Crystal and Supersaw.  It's much more responsive in this system than in my old PIII system especially for Crystal (a very CPU demanding additive synthesizer).  I am using on board video (64MB) and LAN.  FSB is 1000MHz.
I can do a detailed check of my BIOS settings if you want.
The install of all of the Audigy S/W was not clean.  I migrated my hard disk from my old PC and re-instaled WINXP over what was already there so this is not a ground up build (I'm kind of surprised that it works).
Let me know.

  • Audigy 2 ZS Freezing problem..Help!!!

    hi guys,
I just purchased Audigy 2 ZS. I have updated all the drivers (but not yet for the applications).
My problem is every time I run the speaker calibration, speaker settings, or feature demo (EAX), the computer just freeze and the speakers have steady screeching sounds in the middle of the test. Even sometimes when I played musics, the computer will freeze and I need to cut off the power supply. It never happened before ( I used sound blaster li've!)
Currently, Im using windows XP Proffesional.
    Anyone have the solution ?
I really need the help since I must decide if this is the computer problem or defect. Thanks guys.
anyways, I love the card. but...this problem

    mlist84,
Can you give me a rundown of your system specifications. Is it a Prebuilt or a homebuilt system? One thing to always try first when you are having this problem is to move the card to another PCI slot. This will change the resources the card is using and occasionally solve the problem. Also you might try a cleansweep and reinstall. Instructions for that can be found here:

  • Freeze Problem (EAX and MI

Hello everyone. I have had my SoundBlaster Audigy 2 for almost a year now and it has always had this problem. I will be in the middle of an EAX game or playing back a MIDI file and the entire system locks up completely with a high pitched squeel continuously emanating from my speakers.
    My system:
    Intel P3 900 Mhz
    Audigy 2
    52 MB RAM
    G-Force 3 Ti 200
This is very important for me to fix now that I am starting to focus on MIDI some more with my music recording.
I read in a few other threads where other people have had this problem. I haven't tried any of these suggestions just yet, but switching the PCI slot and updating the MoBo BIOS were ineffecti've for them. I am willing to try this though if anyone thinks it will actually help. I'll have a problem updating my BIOS though because I don't exactly know what my MoBo is and I have a Dell proprietary Intel processor.
    Thanks for any help.

I have this exact same problem when I play certain computer games. Exact freezing/screeching noises every few minutes followed by me having to cold reboot the PC...
Anyway, long story short, I've concluded the the culprit is most likely Creative's crummy drivers and EAX. When I disable EAX (i.e. use Software 3D audio, etc) the freezing problem is completely resolved.
Regardless, I'd like this problem fixed by Creative with some new drivers, I supposed. I have the Audigy Gamer sound card, and there has not been a driver update since November 2002. Yes, the problem is solved by not using EAX, but then why did I buy an EAX-capable card again?
A few facts (or at least reasonably true according to my observations over the past year):
-This freezing/high pitched sound looping only happens in games or programs with EAX/hardware 3-D audio enabled
-With EAX disabled (i.e. just using software sound or regular 3-D stereo) from the game or program options, the freezing is nonexistant.
-With EAX enabled, I get the sound looping/freeze with many different video drivers and motherboard BIOS versions, Windows SP and SP2, all patches, newest drivers, cleanly reinstalled system, etc. - the fact is that EAX and Creative's drivers are to blame here.
My current specs for comparison's sake:
    Windows XP Pro with SP2
Intel Pentium 4 2.8GHzGB DDR400 RAMAbit IC-7 mobo60 GB SATA, 60 GB IDE, 20 GB SATASoundblaster Audigy GamerRadeon 9800 PRO (latest Catalyst drivers)
Creative, what's the deal? Gi've us XP drivers that aren't buggy.

    Hal Harris

The best way is to post the crash log next time it crashes. That will contain specific information that will help find the problem. Logs are cryptic but there are people here who can make some sense of them.
I'm running 5.1.7 under 10.6.8 on both my iMac and MacBook Pro and it is completely stable. However I have no extensions installed. Incompatible extensions are a common source of Safari instability

Have a problem where I'll occasionally shift my computer (i.e. physically move it, say from the coffee table to my lap on the couch) and it will freeze and the screen will turn into a bunch of horizontal multicolored lines (closer to 100 lines than 5). Usually restarting (by holding the power button to turn it off) works. A few times that has resulted in the three beeps (RAM issue? -- I've since replaced my RAM [it *seemed* to stop it for a while, but maybe not]), but the second time it always works. Attempting to SSH into the computer during this state does not work. Please advise as to what to do/what reports I can run and post. I will take a pic next time it happens.

Sounds like a problem with your GPU. Do you have an external display you could connect your machine to in order to test this? If the external display renders the same way, then your GPU is damaged. If the external renders fine, then the CPU display is damaged.

  • MBP running Leopard 10.5.3 and W XP  with freezing problems

    Hello everyone
Im running Leopard 10.5.3 and bootcamp 2.1 on my MBP. I am able to run xp pro only once in a blue moon. Ever since I started using bootcamp with windows xp sp2 the computer freezes up. I always have to reboot the computer in order to use the windows side of my mac. I dont know what the problem is. I decided to upgrade to version 10.5.3 and bootcamp 2.1 to see if the freezing problem goes away and it did not help.
95% of the times the computer freezes when Im using it, or when I start boot camp. I only use windows to play games and use some military software since Im a soldier in the army. Im currently deploy to Iraq and not very knowledge in computers. I have reinstalled the apple drivers with the leopard cd because the keyboard was not working properly and it worked fine for a few minutes and then it decided to crash again. It happens very regularly, sometimes Im playing a game for hours and hours and it work great, without problems. Im really lost here. I have read the post about this problem but they really gives me no solution to my problem.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated.
    Leo

I have 10.5.3 on an external, and a 410 that I use as a backup device. After reading this post I thought I'd check it for myself. Installed the 1.8.3-6BETA, and fired it up. Everything worked, I had inputs and outputs, even recorded a little something just to test. Started playing some itunes, and about 10 minutes in, the 410 dropped out. I've tried restarting the computer and device several times, and even though the 410 shows up in my sys prefs and Logic prefs, I can't get any ins or outs out of it, and the 410 interface shows now activity on any of the channels.
    Bee Jay -
I'm going to try this tomorrow, but here's a thought.....the 1.8.3-8 says in the release notes that it has new firmware for the device. I know you're using the previous beta driver, but is it possible that if you installed the -8 driver and then downgraded to the -6BETA, that the device has retained the firmware from the -8 release, which is working with the previous BETA release and 10.5.3?
Dunno....just a thought. I was SO excited to finally get Leopard onto my internal, but now it looks like I'll have to wait a bit more. Bummer!

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

  • 10.8.4 and 10.8.5 freezing problem

I have had issues with freezing since 10.8.4 . After upgrading to 10.8.5, i still have freezng problems. THis is NOT just me. This issue of upgrading to 10.8.4+ and experience repedative freezing is a popular topic on mac forums. Apple, you are getting a VERY angry loyal customers.
My mac is not more the 4 years old, and many people with the issue seem to have a mac just a few years old. Maybe your OS is great with a brand new mac, but many of us are having major freezes with the new OS, and our computers were fast and amzing before upgrading.
I'm over the prepacked suggestions that every responce to this issue gets.No one has yet to say this works. The OS has issues. PLEASE FIX APPLE!

No problems updating to v10.8.5 here.
You didn't mention any maintenance you have tried that didn't work ???
Not enough available disk space can cause the freezing issues.
Click your Apple menu  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac > More Info > Storage
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
    Checked the startup disk lately?
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the disk needs repairing, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you can access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.
Be aware, OS X Recovery requires a high speed broadband connection.
Backup all your important files before repairing or restoring OS X just in case.

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

when i connect 2.0 speakers from my brother to the green plug the same happens!!
What's going on here?!! is that a BUG?
    please help
    grettz Kai

It sounds like the soundcard drivers aren't installed properly or aren't being properly configuring the speaker settings.
Try changing to 2.0/2.1 and 4.0/4.1 and see if those modes work with the speakers connected as they are. If they do then 'tis a software problem and uninstalling and reinstalling the Audigy drivers should fix it (hopefully).

  • 8 G Nano Freezing Problems--How Widespread Is It And Another Question

I got this 8 G Nano about 1 and 1/2 weeks ago. Last night it froze. I did the "hold switch on and off" and it worked. Then I did the "center and menu" option which gave me the Apple icon when I turned it on with a prompt to use iTunes to restore the Nano. Since I am away from my computer, I have not be able to do that yet. My questions are: how widespread is the freezing problem and is there anything I can do to lessen the chances of it occuring, and since I got the Apple icon on the screen will I encounter any problems when I do the restore?

I think it would be a little bit of a skewed judgement of how widespread any particular problem is based on the responses on this board. You have to keep in mind that most people come here in the first place because of a problem they are experiencing. So it's likely that the ratio on here would be extremely high. The people that post on here only represent a small number (ratio wise) of ipod users world wide so over all the problems described on here may not be as widespread as it may appear (also keep in mind that other sites where complaints are logged would have the same issue...and it's very likely that a number of the complaints here are reposted on various sites by the same people). On here, I am one of the few people that has not experienced the majority of the issues that others have posted about. I have not had to reset my ipod or do a restore or go through any of the 5 R's. On here I feel like I may be on of the lucky minority but the people around me represent a different picture. No problems with their units with the exception of the on-the-go playlists bug and the initial firmware bugs everyone experienced.
As for experiencing any problems when you go to restore due to you having the Apple icon...in theory I would like to tell you no, you won't have any problems, but the reality seems to be that it's impossible to really predict what will happen.
Hope all works out for you.

  • 10.4.4 G5 Freeze Problem (and Resolution)

Hi all, I had a major problem with 10.4.4 that I just worked out. I figured it may help someone else to post my experience. After updating from 10.4.3 to 10.4.4 on my Dual 2.3 G5 (stock configuration save for the ATI x850), I encountered a problem in which the machine would lock completely after between 5 and 30 minutes of use. The cursor would freeze in place and any audio the machine was playing would fall into a half-second loop. The only resolution was to force reboot the machine. I first assumed that I had a software problem, as the hard drive's SMART check seemed to rule out a dying drive, so I performed an erase and install (followed by an immediate update to 10.4.4 via software update). Same problem. Next I mounted the drive in Target mode on my Powerbook and ran Diskwarrior, which gave me a "damage is too severe to repair" error. At this point I assumed I was facing a hard drive failure. I replaced the drive, re-installed OSX (and again immediately updated to 10.4.4 via software update), and re-encountered the problem. It finally occured to me that all this began after the 10.4.4 update. I went ahead and downloaded to 10.4.4 combined update (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosxupdate1044.html) and ran it. Bam, problem resolved.
If you're having issues with 10.4.4, I highly suggest that you give this step a try before you erase and install. I wish I'd realized the source of the problem before performing two erase and installs and replacing a drive, I've just gotten far too trusting that Apple's OS updates will be trouble free. That will be the last time I ever update within 30 days of an update's release.
Also, ATi Radeon x850 owners should be especially cautious with 10.4.4-- I've spoken to a few people who have had no problems on machines identical to mine save for the video card. I don't know anyone else with a x850 in a dual 2.3, so I don't know if this is a widespread problem or just happenstance.
I hope all this saves someone from what I just went through, that was an expensive and unpleasant little saga.
    G5 Dual 2.3, Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I have not had a problem yet so far today but it's not like I had the probably everyday... There definately seems to be a pattern here though I as have NEVER had anything like this until installing 10.4.4.
Last night I was listening to iTunes via Airport Express through my stereo and all the sudden the sounds starts to sputter. I came over to the G5 and I see the spinning ball/cursor. For no more than frustration, I click along the dock and try to lauch other apps just to see if I can get a reaction - 10 seconds later, everything just freezes - prior to that I had 4 or more app icons bouncing as if they were about to open. No AppleOptonEsc = nothing - hard freeze. I have the screen saver disabled so it's not like some kind of activity was kicking in that would cause a conflict... I was just listening to music like I often do.
I don't accept this is a memory, motherboard h/w issue. There is something about 10.4.4 for my machine that has increased CPU utilization and causes these hard freezes everyday or so. I've switched drives and done a complete fresh install like 4 times now. I've had OS X since it came out in beta and honestly, this is the first revision that has caused this kind of issue. Guess I've been lucky up to now. I'll ride it out and see what else I can point a finger at.
Thanks for posting what you thought was a potential fix!

in the top right corner it says Error Playing in red
and then a box opens and says "An error has occered attempting to play media." and then all i can click is Ok
and this has only been since i installed the buzzmetin app and then removed it cause it was just pissing me off
also i docked my phone with my pc to add some music to the media card thats about it.
and now for some reason i cant view youtube videos.
normal videos saved on my media card work fine just youtube from what ive tried.
and then the other problem is with facebook
ever since i connected to my pc and got that app its adding all the pictures of my facebook firends to when they call me. I DONT WANT THIS
and i already went through all the settings and checked them not to show but for some reason it still does?
and also when ever i go to my friends list through the facebook app it starts freezing like mad even though its already loaded.
so anyone have any advice i can use to fix these two problems? mainly the youtube one
the facebook problem is just bothering me but i just use the mobile browser app to get to facebook now for the time being.
ive had my phone for about a month now.
    with bell service.
    can anyone help?
OH and just on a side note incase anyone can help its pretty simple
is there any way to change the blue tooth access password for my phone?
mine is by default 0000 and i wanted to change it to something different so people cant just access my phone when i have the blue tooth on

YOUTUBE has not release an app for Blackberry Tour yet. The only option you have is to download an app called Vision (http://vision.metova.com/download) I do have BuzzMe app and still watch videos on my phone. Hope that helps! As for your freezing problem, make sure whatever app you open..ie, internet, games, google maps....make sure you close it fully. One way to make sure your BB is as fresh when you wake up in the morning, download an app called Quickpull Lite. Good luck...

  • Audigy 2 ZS and Logitech Z-680 problems, nothing coming from rear speake

I've been trying everything to get sound out of these rear speakers but I'm having zero luck. I've installed the drivers I don't even know how many times. The speakers work fine when hooked up to my dvd player so I know the wiring is fine. However everytime I run these tests provided on the install, I get "front left... front center... front right..." and then nothing afterwards. Even though I should be getting "rear right... rear left". What can I do to get these speakers working?!
by the way.. while I'm at it. The digital out on this card, am I able to hook that up to the z-680 console in some way? I have it conneced via 6 ch direct right now.

Well I actually got it working last night, my analog connection that is. The weird thing is this: I took the green and black wires, connected to my 680 console and audigy 2, and switched them. As in, the green was in the front speakers minijack and the black was in the rear minijack, and I put the green in the black's connection and vice versa. Suddenly Everything works fine. I don't understand how that could possibly work but whatever.
Now since this is working, should I even bother with a coax connection? During my extensi've reading yesterday, it seemed like coax was only good for dvds and not games. Seeing as how I have a seperate dvd player for all my movies, is it even worth it to open that RCA cable I bought?
