RS482M4 boards' SATA, Linux support (SB450 == SB400?)

Hello. Regarding RS482M4-models, is the SATA part of SB450 exactly the same it used to be in SB400? I'm mainly interested in it as I know for certain that SB400 is supported in Linux, from kernel version 2.6.11 onwards, but I'm not sure about SB450's SATA since it's still not AHCI-compliant which would automatically mean support.
If there's anyone there yet with a SB450 board and Linux: even if you don't use SATA, could you copy-paste  lspci and lspci -n -commands' outputs? It would tell for certain the devices and PCI id's, which I could then compare to what's supported in the kernel.
Update: Also, if there's a Windows user with the needed knowledge to dig this information, help is welcome.

The SATA is SiL based ATI 437A & 4379.
The SATA fails to detect in Fedora Core 3.
The SATA works fine in Fedora Core 4, presumably including the raid functions (not verified), but the graphics falls back on the VESA generic driver.
In the upcoming Fedora Core 5 release with X.Org 7 the graphics will be supported natively by the Radeon driver.
Not yet sure if the sound works. Haven't heard anything, but I also haven't verified the connectors..

  • K8NGM-V SATA II support

I bought a new MSI K8NGM-V today. All works fine, but what about SATA II support ?.
    In the MSI webpage: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=701
I read it has SATA II compliant, but in the box I read: SATA 1 support only !!!
In BIOS, I see SATA I only.
Please can you help me !!!
This is contradictory. I choose this motherboard specifically for use with a SATA II HDD.
    Thanks in advance.

You can upgrade to an SSD.
The simplest method is to use an SSD like the Corsair Force 3 and be sure that you purchase the migration kit.
The migration kit comes with cloning software and a usb to SATA/power cable that connects to the new SSD.
It is recommended that you purchase and SSD that is about 256 GB in capacity if you can find one that is affordable.
SSD with migration kit options in a search that I did.

  • MSI-AIO-Windtop-2212G and SATA 3 Support

    Hello,
I know that AIO PC comes with SATA 2 HDD.
But does this pc has SATA 3 support too?
Cause i think to install an SSD 3 !
    Thanks

it supports only SATA II speeds of 3Gb/s max on the SATA ports as its a Intel® H61 Chipset based board it uses so is limited to that speed at a max!
you would be able to use a SATA III (6Gb/s) drive but it will only run at at SATA II speeds of 3Gb/s!

So where is the LINUX support in the new Solaris 10?

So where is the LINUX support in the new Solaris 10?It does not exist (at least not outside of Sun).
There are rumours that it will be available in one of the Solaris

Lack of Mac & Linux Support Hurting Javafx 2.0 Early Adoption and traction.
Oracle needs to come out with a Mac & Linux Beta built, or let developers know the real story behind Mac OS and Javafx 2.0.

I too would like to at least be able to try the Mac/Linux ports, even knowing that they are behind the Windows version. But just knowing that Oracle is committed to them is enough to ease any nervous feeling that I'm choosing the wrong tech.
I have no problems with the fact that Oracle is concentrating on Windows first. It makes sense. If you have to pick one platform to focus on while you are getting the kinks out, it makes sense for it to be the most popular platform. That's Windows. But there mustn't be too long of a wait for the others. (E.g. if they were in a public beta stage when the Windows version is at final release, that would help boost confidence in the platform.)
So long as they don't make the same mistakes that were made with Swing, where there are too many assumptions that all platforms work the same - so things like Mac's screen menu bar had to be fit in after the fact by Apple using awkward hacks. (I notice that now even popular Linux distros (Ubuntu) are using the screen menu bar concept, though they have managed to fit that into the window manager in such a way that it didn't seem to cause much problems.)

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view), this is a user to user forum and no one here knows what Apple's plans for the future might be. Apple discourages us from speculating about such matters.
If I were to speculate about why they don't want us speculating, it's probably because, among other things, it would just end up encouraging a lot of semi-informed opinions (i.e. speculation).
But again, I'm just speculating so please don't quote me on that.

When I start it, it is still 10x24 fullscreen, but other settings have been saved.
As long as I stay inside a station, everything is fine and dandy, as soon as I undock the client crashes and when I try to login again and eve starts to load my toon (now outside a station somewhere) the client crashes again.
    I also get the error:
    sh: lsb_release: command not found
This can be solved by installing lsb_release, but the package isn't in pacman or AUR. I've been browsing the web to find a source tarball to make a PKGBUILD for it, but no luck so far.
You can run eve -config to get the cedega config options for eve, there you can set windowed mode.
Remember to turn off dx_grab there aswell if you're running windowed.
I get the lsb_release warning aswell but it does not affect running the client as far as I can tell.

Been a long time since I played Freelancer and I've never tried Vendetta. But Eve is third person and more tactical when it comes to fighting. It's very hard to summarize eve but it's really massive and the learning curve is steep but once you get into it, set some goals for yourself and find a good bunch of people to team up with I'd say it's the most rewarding mmo out there.

  • Full SATA 3 support for optibay

    Hello,
I'm the happy owner of a 2011 MBP 8,2 and have an SSD installed as the hard-drive and am enjoying the speed of SATA 3 (6GB). I have installed the original Apple hard-drive in the optibay as my backup/storage disk which connects at SATA 2 (3 GB) speeds. However, when testing the Optibay with a SATA 3 hardrive, the system will not recognize the drive although the link speed is showing 6 GB available. My reading and experience to date tells me that full SATA 3 support is not available for the optibay. I have the latest updates, so Is there a firmware or procedural fix for this type of support?
    Thanks

Not realy sure what you mean.
If you have a late 2011 MBP it has a series 6 Intel chipset which support SATA III on all channels.
I have not even tried a SATA III drive on the secondary, optical bay, port. So I have no idea.
Whether Apple/Mac OS X supports it I don't know either. But I really don't think it is up to the OS. It is the chipset software that either does or doesn't support the speed of the SATA ports and which ones it does or doesn't.
From what I read about the Series 6 Intel chipset SATA III is supported across all ports.
Even with the original DVD drive on that port it reads a 6GBs with the drive only supporting 1.5GBs as anything faster is just a waist.
For me I got all the parts. pulled the system apart, switched everything around, put it back together, turned it on and haven't thought anythiing about since. It worked from the first startup and continues. Aboth the only thing I did was a clean install on the SSD, leaving the original install on the HDD until I knew the SSD would work and I could enable TRIM support on it. I then copied all the data that ws on the original drive to an external, formated the original and then copied the data back on to it.

  • Oracle on LINUX Support question

    Hello Gurus,
I’ve heard the rumor that Oracle will require all systems to be at the same level of support. For example, I might want to have engineering systems on network support, with enterprise systems on a mix of basic and premier support. Is this possible?
    Regards
    VENU

    VENU,
When you purchase Premier Support, all systems must be licensed for Premier Support. See also the Support Policies document (from linux.oracle.com):

  • Quality sound cards with good linux support

Since my Auzentech XFI forte is doomed on linux according to most of the internet (if you have one and made it work then please  PLEASE tell me how ) I'm gonna need a new one. Onboard sound just doesn't cut it anymore for me.
What I'm looking for is a good quality sound card that works perfectly on linux and isn't too expensive.
I don't care about 5.1 or 7.1, I mostly use headphones so high quality stereo output is of most importance.
Are there any sound card manufacturers that have some love for linux?
How are the Asus Xonar cards. I've read good reviews about them but I know nothing about how they work on linux.

I had an M-Audio Delta 1010lt once that had studio quality sound, linux support is good on the entire delta series.

  • Where is the GNU/Linux support?

I was looking for BlackBerry GNU/Linux support as part of our initiative to move to GNU/Linux desktops and found that RIM doesn't support it. Interestingly I have found a third party solution that supports BlackBerrys on GNU/Linux. It looks like that may be our temporary solution until we can phase out the BlackBerrys. I can't believe a company as big as RIM doesn't doesn't support GNU/Linux though.

You mean, for the free Reader? Nowhere; there isn't such a thing. Here is a link link for general support: Contact Customer Care, although experience shows that you get better support in these forums.
