RSAT won't install on Win 8.1 Standard

I am trying to install RSAT on Windows 8.1 Standard x64.  I am not receiving the error message I have seen on other posts.  Rather, I am getting "The update is not applicable to your computer."  I haven't found anything saying
RSAT can only be installed on 8.1 Pro.  Is that the case, or why will it not install?  I am an administrator on the machine.

After discussion with the RSAT team, the documentation has been updated to reflect that RSAT for Windows 8.1 requires full release versions of Windows 8.1 Professional or Windows 8.1 Enterprise.
 The under
the System Requirements on the download page now reflect this and an update to
the RSAT wiki article expands upon it. Per the Wiki article:
RSAT cannot be installed on computers that are running Home or Standard editions of Windows.
You can only install RSAT on Professional or Enterprise editions of the Windows client operating system.
Unless the download page specifically states that RSAT applies to a Beta or Preview or other prerelease version of Windows, you must be running a full (RTM) release of the Windows operating system to install and use RSAT.
Although some users have found ways of manually cracking or hacking the RSAT MSU to install RSAT on unsupported releases or editions of Windows, this is a violation of the Windows end-user license agreement.

  • RSAT won't install on Windows 8.1 Pro - "The system cannot find the file specified."

Please help. RSAT won't install on Windows 8.1 Pro. Every time I try, I get the same error - "The system cannot find the file specified.". I really don't want to have to refresh the PC to get it working! I've installed the update successfully on
a fresh win 8.1 enterprise install on a Hyper-V VM.
I am in uk, so have installed the en-US language pack first. I did have a windows component store corruption but I've managed to fix that.
    event log says:
Windows update "Update for Windows (KB2693643)" could not be installed because of error 2147942402 "The system cannot find the file specified." (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe"
    "C:\RSAT Windows8.1-KB2693643-x64.msu" ")
    CBS log (C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log): http://1drv.ms/19CAv14

As Roger Lu reported, the log indicates that there is corruption in the update files that you downloaded. The log actually reports “file not found”, so you may also want to check permissions on the extracted files in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\76ecaa86ec6712300c2d71cbcdad378c\.
You can also re-try downloading the files to see if your original download was just corrupt.

It was a permissions issue! Thanks so much Bruce!
I checked the permissions for the folder mentioned above and TrustedInstaller only had List Folder Contents and Special Permissions. So I granted granted Read & Execute to TrustedInstaller and tried installing again...
    1) double clicked the installer.
    2) once it said Initialisation was complete, I checked the permissions again and it had re-set them to as before, so I granted Read & Execute to TrustedInstaller again
    3) Installation was successful.
Not really sure why this happened as it doesn't make sense but it's working now :-)

  • PSE 7 won't install on Win 7...msvcp71.dll missing?

I just upgraded (Custom install) my XP laptop to Win 7 64bit and tried reinstalling PSE
7, but get a "program can't start because MSVCP71.dll is missing" . When I first got the error I called Dell and was able to replace the missing file from my SYST32 folder. I'm still getting the error , and of course Adobe won't support 7 on 7. Trying not to spend money I don't have on upgrading to PSE8. Any ideas?
    Rob

Bingo! When I got help from Dell, the rep had me paste it (MSVCP71.dll only, not the MSVCR71.dll file) into System32, not SysWOW64. I told him I was using a 64 bit version of Windows 7, but I think he automatically things 32 bit. Anyway, I copied the file from System32 ofer to WOW64 and it worked. Thanks so much, Ankush! Hopefully the program will work well in Windows 7 ;-)

    HI Paul,
no sorry, did not manage to get it running. Hopefully someone from Adobe could have a look at the installation logs.

  • LR4.1 64bit update won't install on Win 7 system

CAN'T install Lightroom 4.1 update on 64-bit Win7 system. I had absolute no difficulty installing LR 4.0 when it first came out - using the exact same locations / methods as I am trying (repeatedly) to install LR 4.1.
I have tried various ways to install the Windows (Win 7 64bit) Lightroom 4.1 64-bit update and failed each time.
I try to keep as little as possible on my C drive, so all of my programs are on my G: drive. When the installer asks where to unpack/install from, I specify G:/0temp.
I then follow the Install instructions and get a message "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable." In the window at the bottom of the message is: Use source: C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Local\Temp\(8D1593A4...). I'm directed to try again or enter an alternate path.
I do a search and find it in a different temp folder C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Local\Temp\(something different...) and I direct the installer to that folder, but the install fails. When I close the install, the .msi file is removed, so cannot be run directly.
    Help!
    Jim

I have a similar issue.  Running 4.0 - trying to instal 64bit 4.1. This installer *looks* to *maybe* have a hardcoded name for the TEMP directory - yet creates a randomly-generated name when expanding the files.  That may or may not be true, but based on what Adobe is paying ME ($0), I will leave tracking things down to Adobe.
    So - Win 7 64 Pro.  I run installer....
Unpacks to desktop, all works fine until it goes looking for the .msi file.
In temp during install it created this folder (different each time): {A70C3E1B-0B25-427C-94D8-65A581BE92C5}, or {96DD485B-D788-4156-9669-A0BFF8CFEB00}, or whatever it randomly generates.
    When it looks for the MSI - EVERYTIME on install it instead looks for (the same each time I run the installer): {50336421-E773-46E6-9029-155F4AF6E479}
Even renaming/creating a folder of that name with all of the created files in it - including the msi - does not fix the issue.  I used browse and found the msi - then got errors saying it wasn't valid.  Did this 5 times - so REALLY unhappy.  No virus software running... so please dont even suggest that. When you find msi and say OK - you do not pass "go".  Instead - you get these:
Big ups if that error message is from you Adobe.  "Contact your technical support group."  Very rich indeed.
So - the short form - Bad installer (probably) in that it seems to be doing a number of things and failing:
Looking for MSI  - but not in the folder its creating it in
Even when correct MSI is found (time stamped during install) - it declares the file no good
Failing when exiting (to remove whatever has already been installed).

Had same problem with 10.7.  I've followed all the suggestions I can find, restored my computer many times, cleaned the registry... this is the worst software install I've ever seen!

I kept getting the reminder to update itunes  11.1.4 on my Windows 7 laptop.  I now forget the error message other than it would stop and say something that itunes has stopped working and to do a manual d/l from itunes.  That did not work either.
The suggestion to remove the Apple Software Updater from my programs solved this problem.

  • Won't Install in Win XP "The system cannot open the device or file specifie

When installing Quichktime or iTunes, the installer displays ""The system cannot open the device or file specified."
    What should I do?

I was getting this problem too. To resolve I did the following.
    Physically disconnected PC from network.
    Stopped Anti Virus (Evira personal).
    Turned off Windows Firewall.
    Stopped Malware detection (PrevX).
    Installed iTunes + Quicktime.
    Restarted above security programs.
    Reconnected to network.
    Problem sorted.

  • Quick Time 7 won't install on win XP - How to fix

I have struggled lately with the QuickTime instalation problem. I had a previous version and for some unknown reason the upgrade to version 7 when installing iTunes5 did not run smoothly. So I lost the old version and could not indtall the new one also.
Of course iTunes5 could not work either without quickTime...
Here I will try to show a possible workout..

    First of all uninstall iTunes!
You might get an error at the end of uninstall but do not mind.
    Try to uninstall QuickTime!
This in my case did not worked, I got an error..
Check the following folder "Windows/System32" for the files:
    QuickTime.cpl
    QuickTime.qts
    QuickTimeCheck.ocx
    QuickTimeVR.qtx
If U got em that's our case!
(U might want to print this text out on a piece of paper for following the next steps...)
Restart your computer in safe mode!
(You can achieve this by pressing F8 before Windows XP starts)
Search the files mentioned above and delete them.
(these files can be deleted only in safe mode)
    Restart the computer.
    Install iTunes5.
    Everything should run smoothly now.
    This worked for me.
Cannot guarantee it will work for U but there is a chance

  • DJ 1512 - Won't Install on Win Pro XP 64-Bit

I have Windowx XP Pro 64-Bit and the software from HP.com for XP and Vista-64 Bit will not install.  Both reply with Operating System is not supported.  Is there no other solution as I would have thought the XP version would still install ?

XP 64 bit was a short-lived experiment and very few people ever installed it. It was notoriously buggy and unstable although quite a bit faster than standard XP. There used to be a website in the day where XP 64 bit drivers were collected called planetamd64.com but I think it is shut down now.
It might be possible to modify the Vista 64 bit driver to work with XP 64 bit. It would involve editing the actual driver code text.

  • Icloud Control Panel 3 won't install on Win 7 machine

I have tried uninstalling, rebooting, but can't get past this.

Not one reply on your Question!!? I'm so frustrated right now, no matter what I do I get that error message. I cleared my PC from any Apple software and even created a new (Admin) Win7 Account to log in. I'm about to get rid of all my Apple electronics, just because no one is willing to help!! This is carrying through to Ver. 4 of iCloud, which I'm trying right now... still that error message. Is there even Apple Admin on this site? There is thousand having this exact problem with no fix from Apple! By the time they wake up with a fix, they will have lost thousands of clientele... seems it doesn't matter to them. So be it then!
So yeah I'm contacting the Vendor, like the message say, but there is is nobody at the other end of the line!!!

  • Why WINDOWS 8.1 won't install/load on PC where WIN 8 runs Fine ?

Why WINDOWS 8.1 won't install/load on PC where WIN 8 runs Fine ?
As far as System Requirements go, they are the same for WIN 8 and WIN 8.1
    Sympton:
Windows 8.1 Installation DVD loads for some time, no circle of dots, then PC reboots
with quick flash of six lines or so of white text (on black backgound) @ 106 seconds
Needed to use Smart Phone video camera to capture
    Your PC needs to restart.
Please hold down the power button ...
    Error Code:0x000000C4
    Parameters:
    0x000...91
    0x000... F
    0xFFFFF800699C5A80
    0x00000000000000000
    0x00000000000000001
Presumably message is intended for frozen PC, hence 'hold down power button'
In this case it flashes and re-boots
Windows 8.1 Image loads quickly, flash and reboots PC, having corrupted boot entry
(thankfully not other entries in Boot Manager situated on Dell System Reserved Partition)
    PC Desktops affected:
    Dimension 5000 - shipped JAN'05
    RAM 4GB
    Intel Pentium 4 640 3.20Ghz 64bit NX enabled
    ATI Radeon HD 6450
    Dimension 5150c/XPS 200 -shipped MAR'05
    RAM 3GB
    Intel Pentium D 820 2.80Ghz 64bit NX enabled
    Intel 82945G WDDM 1.0
Both the above PC's Install and run Windows 8 without a hiccup
    Another 'ancient' machine, but unaffected:
    Precision 490 Desktop - shipped OCT'07
    RAM 4GB
    2 x XEON 5365 3.0Ghz
ATI HD 6450 (Now HD 7750)
All 8.0 & 8.1 clean Installs and Upgrades on this platform had no problems
Hope some of you can throw some light on this. What does WIN 8.1 do in the boot
process that WIN 8 does not?
And if anybody has encounterd this before...
Note to multi booters - keep or reinstall Dell or other System Reserved partition (PRI,Active)
EasyBCD/Windows Boot Manager held on this partition (eg. 350MB)
If it gets corrupted, you can Restore it, rather than Gigabytes of 1st Primary O/S
Also, it will solve a lot of problems, when manipulating/adding/backing up/restoring O/S's
    That's it, happy computing...

Fellow user from St. Louis, Missouri pointed in the right direction. I'm grateful
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Running upgrade assistant (going to Store rejects CPU, but no details)
    Results in:
    X You can't install Windows 8.1 because your processor doesn't support LAHF/SAHF.
X You can't install Windows 8.1 because your processor doesn't support PrefetchW.
There are at least three Processor requirements that M'soft does not list for WIN 8.1
and it's fairly well documented, if you ask the right question, eg.:
    http://www.pcworld.com/article/2058683/new-windows-8-1-requirements-strand-some-users-on-windows-8.html
So that's it, exclusion by 'stealth' - at least M'soft told you that processor required NX - Execute Disable Bit
    for Windows 8
For Intel units, look out for 'VT-x. Have a processor on the way, but will Motherboard pass CMPXCHG16b test?
    AND PrefetchW AND LAHF/SAHF
Windows 8 support ends 2015, that means people who bought it will have had 2 years use
WIN 8.1 Upgrade/Update (sic) is free, but costly if it won't run on your machine
So, those many people who decried Windows 8 and stuck to WIN 7, were right after all
Early supporters of WIN 8, have been 'betrayed'
'Minimum Requirement for Processor 1Ghz - don't make me laugh! (Presumably for Phone 8)
M'soft have a 'more info' link on System Requirements page, so why not spell it out...
Otherwise it looks like a PR/Cosmetic exersize

Officejet 6500a won’t install wirelessly on Win 7 HP laptop. Does fine wirelessly on generic desktop pc. HP Support Assistant does not detect this unit. At one time, I had the laptop wired to the printer, so all the relevant data were transferred automatically.

Wireless and wired use different setups. Since you didn't remove the previous install it expects it to be wired connection.

  • Ultranav won't install after upgrade to Win 7

I upgraded from XP to Win 7 Ultimate. When I try to install the Win 7-compliant driver from the Lenovo site, the OS tells me that it's not compliant and "fixes" the problem by installing generic drivers that, of course, don't allow me to modify the Ultranav settings. Any thoughts?

    Hi PMS,
Please link to the driver file you tried to install and the name your system also. More information is always handy.
