RSH gethostbyname: Error 0
Apologies for posting Solaris 8 query in this forum.
When I try to do a RSH (rsh HOST pwd).
gethostbyname: Error 0
gethostbyname: Error 0
If you see this. The error comes up but still the RSH command works.
This affects the USFDUMP scheduled backup when I try to do backup to the same remote server (HOST in the above command).
The error on the UFSDUMP is
DUMP: Protocol to remote tape server botched (code gethostbyname: Error 0?).
DUMP: Lost connection to remote host.
The RSH error doesn't appear if I try to any other SUN servers. It was all working fine until we configured multi-domain setup (DNS) on the servers still all NAME SERVICE provided by the same DNS server.
To explain, Backup HOST is in TEST domain while Tape HOST is in DEV domain.
Any help would be very grateful.

Hi sathish777,
Because each domain has its secure boundary ,domain trust is needed for comunication between different domain .
As a workaround , you may try to logon the "client" locally to be a workgroup machine then use hvremote.swf to manage the hyper-v server remotely :

It seems that SAP Developers maintaining IDES Database left some jobs processes, which try to locate internally specified host (host name: iwdf8623.wdf.sap.corp; host IP: 10.16.139.126 is from SAP private IP address pool). Could any of you explain this error and suggest what to do? Should I remove this job? If yes, then how, or should I modify request made by SAP Developers?
Thanks for your helpHi Jerzy,
To what I understood from the logs, the program is trying to connect to TREX Admin process defined in the FUZZY_SEARCH RFC connection (check SM59 for FUZZY_SEARCH item). That RFC conection has SAP host (iwdf8623.wdf.sap.corp) defined in the "hostname" field.
If for you business processes you need TREX server then you'll have to install it (TREX) and fix the hostname in RFC connection. If not, you can go ahead and stop the relevant job producing errors in the system log.

Error while updating the firmware
I have X4500 running solaris 10 OS with software version 5.10. The ILOM version is 1.1.1. I tried to update the firmware but I cannot do that because I am getting an error. This is how I setup everything and I get the error mentioned below.
C H A P T E R 1 - Flash Upgrading Your Server to Software Release 1.2
I referred to the above link to do so. But, I do not understand what is the tftpserver that I need to mention here. I get an error message saying gethostbyname() failed. I also setup tftp server on my solaris machine using the following link.
A P P E N D I X C - Updating the Firmware
Please, help me.ILOM <1.1.8 was pretty flaky. 1.0 was described to me by a Sun CSE as the worst piece of software they ever released. I beg to differ, having been forced to use YP and rpc.lockd in the past but I digress ...
o) Are you sure that you're getting the right firmware image? You want the x4500-specific images here: http://www.sun.com/servers/x64/x4500/downloads.jsp Be careful not to mix up x4100/x4200, x4100m2/x4200m2, x4600, x4500, etc. files as they are different
o) Do a "show /SYS/MB" before updating your firmware and stash the output. Updates from 1.x versions of ILOM have a way of wiping the system serial and part numbers. If you record that info first you can repair after the fact.
o) Do a "reset /SP" to reset the service processor before attempting the update. 1.x versions of ILOM, especially <=1.1.1, seem to upgrade more reliably when they're freshly booted
o) Be sure that /SYS is stopped before you update ILOM
o) You don't specify what command you're using to try to update, but I suspect that you're trying something like
load -source tftp://some.host.domain/file.ima
given the gethostbyname error. Give it the ip address of the tftp server not the FQDN. -

I've checked the Gateway option and changing them has not worked.
I have still the same error in SM59.
When i compare two R/3 systems one that works and one that doesn't :
- SM59 - technical settings tab have the same inputs.
- SMGW - the one that works has 2 lines in first screen "Active connections" and when i go to "Logged on clients" i have 11 connections.
The one that doesn't work has no lines in first screen "Active connections" and when i go to "Logged on clients" i have 4 connections.
The complete error in SM59 is :

Hi, I am trying to execute a script , in which i am finding this error. Whats the problem??
Invalid channel number in "ChnCFCFiltCalc(1,"LUSP0000FOXP",0,"CFC_1000",0)" command in the line Call CHNCFCFILTCALC(1, KANALNAMEIST_, L3, FILTERKLASSE_, 0).
KanalNameIst_ : F <' '> and FilterKlasse_ : F <' '> has been defined in a .vas file and uservarcompile is provided in script for the same. What might be the error in chnfiltcalc command??Hi RSH,
The error message says that the second parameter in the function is invalid. It shows you that a channel name is being delivered there my the KanalNameIst_ variable. Either the "LUSP0000FOXP" channel doesn't exist in your Data Portal at the time you call this function (likely), or perhaps that function requires channel numbers (unlikely). In the latter case you should use CNo(KanalNameIst_), and in either case you could check before calling the function if CNo(KanalNameIst_) > 0.

Hello
I try to make a connect to SAP by oss. I have already do the following step:
1)Fill the "Remote Connection Data Sheet"
2)Get an answer with Distingushed Name
3)Unpack sapcrypto.dll to ntintel folder (I have Windows 2003 on Intel)
4)sapgenpse.exe get_pse -v -r certreq -p local.pse "CN=xxxxxx, OU=xxxxxx, OU=SAProuter, O=SAP, C=DE"
6)Get the connted of certreq and fill it into the form on marketplace
7)Get key from ather form from marketplace and put this text into "srcert"
8)sapgenpse.exe import_own_cert -c srcert -p local.pse
9)Quality test: sapgenpse seclogin -p local.pse -O sncadm running seclogin with USER="sncadm" - all OK
After all this step I have gone on marketplace and filled all tab about my system (for router I selected 3299 port). But connection was <b>canceled</b>. In sm59 I described /H/myIPwithrouter/S/sapdp99/H/sendedsapIP/S/sapdp99/H/oss1

Good day,
I'm trying to setup NFS here at home, but it wont work. This is whats happening on the client-side:
[root@ws ~]# mount -o nfsvers=2 -t nfs 192.168.0.85:/home/ftp /mnt/ftp/
mount to NFS server '192.168.0.85' failed: server is down.
I have tried to don't use '-o nfsvers=2 -t nfs' also, but that doesnt make any difference. Server IP is 192.168.0.85 and to my workstations it's 192.168.0.80 (server is just added in all the configs to be able to test it easier).
Some configs from the server:
/etc/exports
/home/ftp 192.168.0.80(rw,sync) 192.168.0.85(ro,sync)
/etc/hosts.allow
portmap: 192.168.0.85, 192.168.0.80

Have a look in the server's /var/log/messages.log. You should see an entry something like this:
rpc.mountd: refused mount request from 192.168.0.80 for /home/ftp (/): <reason_for_refusal_here>
This is the only lines that has 'rpc' in it are these:
Apr 28 05:05:39 serenity rpc.statd[2047]: Version 1.0.7 Starting
Apr 28 05:05:40 serenity rpc.statd[2047]: gethostbyname error for serenity
And I googled (just a little ) a little before making this post, and it seems like this is nothing to worry about.
I'm not an expert, just someone with a working NFS rig, but IMO your server is not even receiving the mount request. My server generates rpc.mountd log messages for every mount request, whether it's successful or not. The "server is down" response on the client would tie in with that. If I make a purposely incorrect mount request against my running server e.g. by specifying an unexported directory, the client response is
mount: tk-gxa:/spare failed, reason given by server: Permission denied
OTOH, if I do the same command against a different non-NFS machine, the client response is almost the same as yours:
mount to NFS server 'tk-gwa' failed.
I just don't get "server is down".
I also have the same rpc.statd messages, btw, but as you suspected, the gethostbyname error is harmless.
Your rpcinfo looks good, but just for fun, can you confirm that your server is running the portmap, nfslock, and nfsd daemons, and that they are started in that order? Apart from that, I don't know what to suggest, but I hope some of this is useful anyway. -

Thanks.Hi Tom,
Thanks, but at this point, I've rebooted, checked and double-checked more times than I'd care to count...:(
Since I can see the NMEA strings when the GPS module is hooked-up to the USB port, I guess I'll assume there's some reason why the
AMA0 UART has not been released, or that the GPS receives some different signals through the TTY that it's not seeing through the AMA0.
As I mentioned, when I use 'cat /dev/ttyAMA0', it just hangs, like it's getting no data. I'll keep looking...
Thanks for your help,

gethostbyname(tatiana) failed [h_errno: host not found(1)]
I also see this when I boot up at the console.
Can anyone tell me what this means and what this effects?
Many Thanks
MonicaHi There,
Step1
First check in Services Manager to see that OracleTNSNames service is running. If it is running go to Step 2. In not start it and then restart PSUB service and try to run a job.
Step 2
Lets say you have installed OC in D drive.
Go to D:\oracle\ora92\network\admin\tnsnames.ora
Open tnsnames.ora in notepad and check to see whats the "Service Name".
Make sure that the Startup parameters you are giving when starting PSUB contains SID which = Service name
For example service name is ocproddb then:
Start PSUB as RXCPROD with parameters:
ocproddb 45 verbose D:\\opapps\\oc\\45
Let me know whether it helps.
Best regards

[iPhone 2.1 beta2] gethostbyname always get Unknown host error
gethostbyname always get "Unknown host" error.
any thoughts?
following is the code how to get local iphone ip:
char buffer[256];
if(gethostname(buffer, sizeof(buffer)) == 0)
struct hostent* host = gethostbyname(buffer);
if (host == NULL) {
herror("gethostbyname");
return NULL;
in_addr in;
memcpy(&in.s_addr, host->h_addr, host->h_length);
char* addr = inet_ntoa(in);
if(addr)
strcpy(local_ip, addr);
}I'm having a similar problem, but the emergency call/airplane mode trick didn't fix mine. I just get call failed with no option to turn off airplane mode. Anyone else have another solution?
I'm on an original iPhone with a Mac PowerBook G4
After trying the update to 2.1 I just get the "unknown error occurred (-3256)" in iTunes. And the connect to iTunes screen on my iPhone. I've tried resetting with no success. I cannot restore because it can't access the iPhone in iTunes (it shows up as a devise by that's it). I can't get to any settings.
Any help will be greatly appreciated...I'm desperate. -
Redwood Cronacle: rwmail error (gethostbyname)
Can anyone tell my why I might be getting the following error when submitting to one UNIX server (SAP server, HP-UX IA64) but successful when submitted to another (HP-UX U 9000/800)? Paths are set correctly, environment variables are set, and rwmail exists in $JCS_HOME/bin as an executable with correct permissions.

1) Redwood comes with different server installations based on server config. IA64 has different setup as compared to other servers. Please check if you have installed correct version on IA64 box.
2) Not sure which version of Cronacle you are using. If its 8 onwards, you can get setup file from support for IA64. Not sure if IA64 is supported for earlier versions. Check the help file or write to support to check if your version of cronacle supports IA64.

Rsh connection refused error.
Hi.
rsh returns a connection refused message when trying to connect to a host running solaris 8. I am able to rsh from other client boxes to this host but this one refuses to work. In the /.rhosts I have only a + .
Any ideas?
Thanks.
SN"connection refused" means that the remote tcp/ip host you are trying to connect to
does not have a process listening on the rlogin server port.
As you say that other machines can rlogin okay to this machine then I would look to make sure that
the name you are using to rlogin to resolves to the same server machine between a client that works and this client that doesn't
eg
getent hosts rlogin_server
run on both clients
