RSS database broken in Safari 4.0.2

i get each day a rss 'reset' following the Syndication/Database3_broken ???
is there an issue form this trouble ?

I see. That's a lot of feeds. I suspect one or more of the feeds are corrupted causing the database to be corrupted. Sometimes feeds are not correctly coded causing database corruption.
Otherwise, in Tiger, the RSS preference files that also affect the database are the following found in Your User Account>Library>Syndications folder:
com.apple.SyndicationAgent.plist and
com.apple.Syndication.plist
move these files to the trash, then restart Safari.

  • Missing RSS Feed Listing in Safari

How do restore RSS feeds on the Safari's tool bar? The listing is gone in bookmarks???? If I go to website to download feeds, a drop down RSS Add Feed menu asked, and I responded to add to Safari, to no avail. I've used Mail for reading but want to use Safari for reading.

    Hello nav:
I think that would happen if you reset Safari.
If that does not work, try trashing the preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and then restarting.
Edit #2: If you have one, also trash com.apple.safari.RSS.plist and restart.
Edit: I just recalled that I think you should open Mail>preferences>RSS reader and select Safari from the drop down menu.

  • Safari 3.2.x freezes computer, solved, RSS Database was corrupted.

    *Short answer:*
    rm ~/Library/Syndication/Database3
    rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari
    *Long answer*
Ever since I "upgraded" to Safari 3.2 it would freeze my iMac G5. Even after "upgrading" to 3.2.1 the problem persisted. However, this problem did/does not occur on my iBook G4.
First off, I switched to Firefox 3. So kudos to Apple for giving me the opportunity to ditch Safari. I've been a daily user since 2004 but "it just works" was more important to my productivity than having my computer freeze for no immediately obvious reason. Next up, ditching OS X for Linux? Haha, just kidding. Maybe.
Still, I need to debug websites in Safari. And up until an hour ago, Safari would freeze my computer.
Yes, I read all the threads about how to fix the problem(s). Yes, I cleared my preferences files. Yes, I repaired disk permissions. And no, I don't run any input managers or third party hacks.
What I did find out, after patiently waiting and letting a few log messages painfully trickle into the console, was that ~/Library/Syndication/Database3 was corrupted.
    Console:
    +2008-11-30 18:37:06.949 Safari[1001] WARNING: SQLite error 10: disk I/O error+
    +2008-11-30 18:37:06.950 Safari[1001] WARNING: SQLite error 10: disk I/O error+

Database3 is where Safari keeps it's RSS feeds. Database3 is a Sqlite database. The new "Fraudulent websites" as well as the new "Database Storage HTML 5" features are also Sqlite based. My guess is that a botched upgrade messed something up. Either that, or the file was on a bad sector. However, because Safari kept locking my system (and making me curse very loudly in the process) I ran disk repair several times last week, at bootup, off the Tiger install CD, to no avail.
The solution, for me, was to delete the ~/Library/Syndication/Database3 file.
In the process of being ticked off, i deleted the ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari cache directories for good measure. Why? Because that's where you will find SafeBrowsing.db, an sqlite database used by the Fraudulent websites feature.
Everything is back to normal, at least for now... Thanks for reading.
PS: For those who want to mess around with the sqlite database files but are afraid of the command prompt, check out: http://sqlitebrowser.sourceforge.net/

For your own sanity's sake and future sake of your system, you should run a disk block check using Apple Hardware Test, TechTool Deluxe or Pro, or DiskWarrior, whichever you have available.
The disk I/O error is a real phenomenon - there was a disk error reading a block on the disk.
By deleting the file in question, the bad block was released back into the free disk block pool, meaning it will show up in some other file in the future if it's actually a physical bad block on the disk.
What's more likely is that it was a block written with a bad checksum, which means the bad block will correct itself the next time that block on the disk is written to, so you may not see it again even if you use one of the disk tools I mentioned above.
But it's always good to test to make sure it isn't a physical bad block that will come back to haunt you when some other file on your system uses that disk block.

  • Safari issues with at least two sites and RSS Feeds broken

Greetings all. This is my first time posting on here, I'm also a new(er) Apple user. Finally switched from the dark side. Love the Macbook, but after so many years with a PC, I am definitely not within my element on some things. Here are my two issues:
    1. On Safari (and Firefox incidentally) if I go to msnbc.com or yahoo.com I get a dysfunctional appearance. msnbc.com simply doesn't load except the outer frames. The inner content doesn't load at all. They have redesigned their site and I still only get the outer frame from the old design. On yahoo.com, it simply gives me a very bland, generic front page and tells me to upgrade to a more current browser. I'm running the most current Safari. Don't know what's wrong. I get some challenges on some other sites i visit, but nothing specific comes to mind - except maybe flash driven applications - heavy flash. They run slow or not at all.
    2. I love(d) RSS feeds in Safari. All of a sudden they stopped working. It still shows unread messages - which I cannot clear - and will not load any new messages. If I try to read a feed, it gives me a error page - similar to a non-existent page/link. Not sure how to fix this.
With the first issue, being relatively new to Apple, etc, I honestly don't know if I selected some weird setting unknowingly that is causing my problems or not, etc. Don't know if I caught a virus, bug, etc. Wouldn't know how to find out if I did.
Anyone that is patient, intelligent with Apple and doesn't mind helping out a stupid new Apple user. :o) VERY MUCH APPRECIATED IN ADVANCE!

All companies are out there to make money, however much they try to disguise the fact.
GoldenShoes is partly right. However, not all sites are deliberately designed to just work in IE and Firefox; a lot of developers simply don't realise their code (or parts of it) is not functional in other browsers because at least 90% of the world's population use IE or FF. In other cases, it's just not economically viable to cater to such a tiny percent of the Internet-using population (besides, what would all those people that want to be 'different' do?!
You might want to try contacting those companies and telling them of your problems - after all, they are losing business by doing this and they may be unaware.
The other part of the argument is that FF, and IE especially, let a lot more 'bad', invalid code though to cater to their users. Opera and Safari don't really do this as much, and there is a lot of cross-browser incompatibility.

  • Nokia 5800 RSS Reader broken "unknown error"

My Nokia 5800 RSS Reader spontaneously died. Getting "unknown error".
Anyone know how to fix this? Will any new firmware fix it? Any free apps?
The RSS Reader on the phone isn't bad imo and i had over 10 feeds in there. I'm having to use Opera Mini rss feed is usable but that browser is so fragile!
    (I have v2.1 fw)
Much discussion about this here but no solution: http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum/showthread.php?p=425392
Appreciate my posts? - gimme some kudos and click teh star!

I have had the same problem on my nokia 5800, everything worked great for about 1 month since I bought the phone and then out of nowhere the feeds got corrupted when I was doing a refresh all I think. It is 100% a software database or broken file issue.  I tried searching for bookmark database in system folders and files and others using y-browser to see if I can erase them manually but wasn't able to find any file that would indicate it is a bookmark database or whatever. Maybe someone who knows s60 ins and outs has an idea where do these bookmarks live.
On the other hand I remembered I had done a full back up of my phone beforehand using PC suite (Ovi Suite same thing in a different package) . So I just restored the bookmarks to my phone and vioala. The feeds work again, because the whole bookmark database got overwritten. No hard reset required.
If you already have the error and no back up then  it is a problem. You would have to trick the nokia restore software to do the restore with a blank file. You will have to dig around and find out how to do it. Perhaps do a back up for the broken bookmarkrs, find the file, then either replace with a blank or edit it such that it looks like blank. Alternatively, have someone who has a uncorrupted bookmark back up, send you the file and you can restore that one.
    Hope this helps!Good Luck!

  • Bookmark Bar RSS Counts Broken after 5.1.4 upgrade

Ever since upgrading to 5.1.4 none of the RSS feeds saved in my bookmarks bar are reporting the new post counts properly.
New posts are not being shown in the bookmarks bar.
After clicking on a feed the count shows up, and then won't be dismissed no matter how many times it is viewed.
If I use "View All RSS Articles" for a folder it clears the bar count, but then all the individual feeds are still badged with a count that can't be dismissed.
Is there a fix for this, or do I have to revert to an older version and hope that the next Safari update will address this?
(and please, no alternate browser recommendations)

    Hi,
Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file  (preferences)
    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.
If that didn't work, go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Move the Cache.db file to the Trash. Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.

This is only the first thread, this post won't let me post the whole thing, but email me if you want the whole thing to analyze. Anyway, RSS works with Cnn.com and a couple of others, but it crashes on most others. Any suggestions? Brian

Brian, I get the same thing when reading RSS feeds. But for me, I can read the feeds for a while, then I click on a feed, Safari stops, and crashes. It doesn't effect anything else. I can restart Safari and go back to that feed and it works. And it will work merrily for a while, then it will happen again. I haven't seen a pattern. I have trashed the plist, reset Safari, and emptied the Cache. Nothing seems to help.
I also checked the Console and found this:
SyndicationAgent[990] WARNING: SQLArticleSource: Can't initialize with missing URL
I don't know what it means, but maybe someone else here can interpret it.
    Thanks.

  • ITunes Mac App Store Affiliate RSS Feeds Broken ?

Looking at the affiliate RSS Feeds produced by Apple, Many of the backgrounds, instead of being transparent or at least white, are totally black.
I have no idea if it is just my Mac being silly, but I don't think it is :/
Check out the problem here: feed://itunes.apple.com/us/rss/topmacapps/limit=10/xml
I will also insert an image to show you what it looks like:
The reason I am concerned is that I am currently running a "Top Mac Apps" section on my site that gets its rankings from these feeds, and recently most of the backgrounds of the icons are becoming black. It just look ugly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I am certain that this is not "normal".
Only in the past few weeks, the black backgrounds have begun to slowly phase in, with an ever increasing number of broken backgrounds.
However I do agree that there is not much we can do about this at the moment, (unless you work for Apple of course).
I hope they fix it soon.

  • Feed RSS, periodic errors on Safari

I have many feed RSS in the Safari bookmark bar, uniforms for topic and ordered.
They work very well and they have replaced for a long time searches readings and consultations.
But periodically, approximately every two or three months, some of they and only some in small group, that it means every 20 days approximately, drive crazy.
Imagined to find between the warnings 78, 113 rather than 96 recalled pages, instead of the daily usual.
I go to see and there are, not read.
Those pages, all of 2009, remain some day archived and ordered with to those of the slid days, in the previewed measure, and then they disappear.
Already tried the cancellation and restoration of the RSS, maneuvers on the cache, cookies and similar without result.
    Today a problem creates me.
It has cancelled to me on Creative Notes, with 39 link to articles of september 2009, all the recent updates.
Therefore it is not more only an annoyance.
I would want to know if someone that it uses others browser finds the same problem or if it is specific of Safari.
Someone of it knows something more? How to fix it?
    OS X 10.7.3 on iMac 2011, Safari 5.1.5

OK, i finally seem to have solved my problem as well, though, amazingly, not in the permissions-changing manner described right above here...which i, of course, spent about 15-20 minutes trying to no avail.
what i did, and which is ridiculously backwards and old-fashioned, was to
    1. make a new admin user in system preferences/accounts,
    2. log this new temporary admin user in,
    3. load up safari,
    4. load up an RSS feed, which -- a welcome sight, indeed -- actually loaded and appeared as it used to, long ago...
    5. quit safari
    6. go to the new user's library/pubsub folder, and make a ZIP/compressed archive of that, and place it in a location where i could get it from my own account,
    7. log out the new user
    8. log myself back in
    9. delete my (troublesome) pubsub folder from my library, and replace it with the uncompressed one i had just created via the temporary admin user
    10. restarted. this is important, cos it's what finally worked.

  • RSS Feeds and older Safari

I was wondering if you can get RSS feeds on older versions of Safari. I am running 1.3 right now.
If this is not possible, than is their a way to load Safari 2.0 onto Mac OSX 10.3.9?
    Thanks for your help.
    GH

    Greg,
there´s no way of loading Safari 2.0 on Panther. Try using a different browser. I´m a news junkie too and I´ve been searching for a browser that has an RSS feed feature and which could run under 10.3.9. I´ve found Opera (no ads, free) and Omniweb ($29.95) to be the best on this feature.

  • Having trouble accessing rss feed addresses through safari

When I'm looking at a blog in Safari, and click the button for (say) "RSS feeds, entries," I get an error message that says "no associated application could be found." I have no way to get the feed address.
I used to get a pop-up menu that allowed me  to to either import the feed into one of the popular readers, or to cut and paste it manually.I'm using Feedly  now (and playing with Digg Reader), if that helps.
On Firefox, all works exactly as expected.

I have recently uninstalled Trusted Extensions on a few of the machines and I have full use of the browser manager for my APC PowerChute software. Are there certain privledges I need to set up within TX to allow local access to the afformentioned port/software?

  • What Happend to the RSS Feed feature in Safari and Mail?

It seems all the Built in RSS features in Safari and Mail have been removed in Mountain Lion? Anyone know if they are gone or moved?

The RSS feature was removed from Safari and Mail by Apple.
    So they're gone.
There are 3rd party solutions you can use.  NetNewsWire and Reeder are both good options on OS X, and Reeder is a great iOS client.  They all use Google Reader on the back end.

  • Textutil broken after Safari 3 update?

I have some scripts that use textutil to convert html files to rtfs. I tried one today & it didn't work -- tried running textutil filename.html -convert rtf from the command line, and after an unusually long wait I eventually got the message "Error reading filename.html"
I can't remember the last time I used these scripts but it's been a few weeks, so I'm thinking the culprit is Safari 3 / webkit....
Has anyone else seen this problem / got an idea for a fix?
    thanks
    Derick

Seems that you're right. I tested this by first trying out textutil before installing Safari 3, and then afterwards. No go. Hmm... what was the address for the bug tracking system? Seems like a serious bug to me. It seems that reading HTML files is broken since I can still convert files to HTML.
