Rss feed check - feedvalidator not giving .xml info

I want to view the .xml info for my feed
http://lawofattraction.podOmatic.com/rss2.xml
I know it validates but I use podomatic to create my feed then change it so I can post it the way I want it on Itunes.
Feedvalidator used to give you validate but also list the .xml so I could fiddle with the contents. My brain is fried right now - how do I view this code? Help! Karen

Feedvalidator doesn't display the code if it can't find anything to criticize - take it as a compliment.
Control-click on the URL you give for the feed, and choose 'Download linked file' or equivalent. When downloaded, drag it to the TextEdit icon. When you have modified it, save it with the same name, and TextEdit will ask you whether you want to add .txt to the end - decline the offer.
However, though I'm not familiar with Podomatic, if it's an online service you may have problems changing the feed - they generally don't allow you access to it. Whether you can upload your changed file I don't know, nor whether there is in fact a way of getting into the Podomatic version of it.

iweb3 rss feed widget does NOT work in real-time (if at all), I sent feedback to them already (no reply) and I summed up in my post here:

I also included a much better alternative than iweb rss feed widget but you will have to do much of Yahoo's Pipes studying.

• RSS Feeds on Podcast(not working)

I use Go daddy as my host not .mac which I am starting to believe is the cause of the problem.
http://www.johnnyjungle.com/JungleRadio/JungleRadio.html
is my page that I am having problems with so you can see for yourself....does anyone know why the RSS feeds won't work?

ok we're getting closer this helped but still not correct.
I entered the site in the box however it doesn't give the right link in the box.
I tried renaming my file a few times however nothing seems to work
Instead of giving the correct RSS feed it includes the file name
so instead of being feed://www.johnnyjungle.com/Jungle_Radio/rss.xml
it comes up at feed://www.johnnyjungle.com/JohnnyJungle/JungleRadio/rss.xml
as my file name is Johnny Jungle. I tried making it http://www.johnnyjungle.com for the file name but it does the same thing.

• Generating RSS Feeds using files with extension .xml

Bonjour!
Apologies if this is not the correct forum - please redirect me if necessary.
I am trying to create an .xml file to upload to my server allowing me to generate rss feeds on my web site. If i understand correctly (I am a beginner webmaster) for my RSS feed to be valid, the first line must read for example '

which is the case in my document until I save it! When I try to save the text file as .xml MAC OSX treats it as a Word File. I have tried saving as .txt with the same result. Trying to change the extension once the file has been uploaded to my server doesn't work either - the RSS feed validators still pick the document up as a Word file.
http://www.immobilier.rimcka.com/rss.xml
Could you advise, please?
Merci

What APP are you using to save it?
Might drop it on FileWiz and see if it has a Type/Creator code.
Might give BBEdit a look/try...

• Metadata on iPod from RSS feed (podcast) - ID3 tags or XML-generated?

Hi,
Does the metadata on an iPod come from the ID3 tags or from the XML-generated content in the RSS feed?
Thanks!

Afterthought:
My experience is generally with tweaking tags to get iTunes to merge feeds but if you are downloading podcasts directly to the iPod it may concentrate on the feed information. Short of running tests with deliberately different information in the feed & the tag it is hard to say.

• RSS Feeds in mail not updating

There is another thread [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1322871] about RSS not updating in Mail.app. It is closed so I can't post a response to it. Whilst the solution offered might work it isn't really very elegant.
If RSS feeds no longer seem to be updating then it could be that the SQLite3 database that manages it has some corruption or space issues. The best solution is to fix this database (rather than to replace it as proffered in the other thread). To do so, first quit Mail, then open Terminal and enter:
/usr/bin/sqlite3 ~/Library/PubSub/Database/Database.sqlite3 vacuum.
When you next open Mail, RSS should be returned to normal

I wonder what the problem is and how to resolve it. Anybody out there have an idea?

• RSS feeds slow, counter not updating after reading

Until recently, my RSS feeds were functioning normally. They loaded quickly and once read, the counter would reset to zero. This is no longer so. Thinking that I had too many feeds (about 90) I've subdivided them into several folders each containing 20 feeds or so which I open individually in tabs. The problem however persists.
The other annoying aspect is that once a feed has been read/clicked, the counter still shows as if I have unread feeds.
I've deleted the preference files and unchecked the fraudulent security tab but it has made no diference.
Many thanks,
Leonardo

Go to the Finder: Your User Account>Library>PubSub>Database folder. There, move the Database.sqlite3 to the desktop and restart Safari. Let me know if the feeds now correctly update. If they do, you'll need to reset any custom settings in the feeds.

• Mail will not delete content of RSS feed in Snow Leopard OSX Mail Update

I have 2 RSS feeds that subscribe to in Safari and read in Mail. When I delete a link in the feed in Mail and they go to the Trash - all of the links reappear when I relaunch Mail ... the same link reappears in the RSS feed. I have deleted the links, quit Mail, re-subscribed to the RSS feed in Safari - but it still happens. It is as if you can never delete the links in the RSS feed. Did not have this problem prior to updating to Snow Leopard. Anyone know whey that is? Or is the RSS feature in Safari just poorly designed and inadequate?

• Problem with RSS Feed & iTunes U

Hello:
The following RSS feed passes feedvalidator with two minor errors, and other feeds have these similar two minor errors but work with iTunes U.
But, the following feed doesn't work with iTunes U.
http://www.kued.org/productions/utahnow/?action=videocast&cat=4
Any suggesitons?

An additional note: the error message iTunesU is returning is:
Error
iTunes U could not update the content in this group because iTunes U could not download the specified RSS feed. Verify that the RSS feed specified in the Feed URL is available, and then try again.
Clearly the feed is "available", and is in fact error free:
http://feedvalidator.org/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kued.org%2Fproductions%2 Futahnow%2F%3Faction%3Dvideocast%26cat%3D4
I've been through the feed pretty thoroughly and cannot see what in it could be giving iTunesU grief.

• Better rss feeds without jf namespace prefix

Hi Discussions,
It would be nice if the RSS feeds provided did not use these 'jf' namespace prefixed tags, but rather plain old RSS tags that most RSS readers, inclusive of Safari & Mail currently understand. The feeds contain tags like:
<jf:creationDate>Mon, 31 Mar 2008 14:02:16 -0500</jf:creationDate>
<jf:modificationDate>Mon, 31 Mar 2008 14:02:16 -0500</jf:modificationDate>
<jf:author>J.K. ROFLing</jf:author>
<jf:replyCount>0</jf:replyCount>
it would be better if they were something like:

or

or if they included such standard tags in addition to the jf: tags. As it is now, an rss reader doesn't know what these tags are and gives each entry the pubDate of the entire feed, and includes no author or subject info.
The feeds could also include the discussion group name as a "category" tag for each entry. that would perhaps be even better when a couple of feeds are grouped together.
As it is today the RSS feeds aren't nearly as compatible with Safari and Mail or other RSS readers as one might reasonably hope/expect. With all the work already sunk into providing the feeds at all, it would be nice to go the last couple of inches and make them (more) useable.
Cheers,
Chris

• Safari 4 slower loading with RSS feeds

Don't know what happened in Safari 4 (4.0.2), but now it is much slower loading initially because of the way RSS feeds in the bookmarks bar are now being handled. I can not use the browser until all the RSS feeds have been checked. Even when clicking on an RSS item within a particular page such as CNN, the time to open that feed is significantly slower.
There has always been occasional problems with the bookmark bar for RSS feeds showing there are unread feeds, yet nothing shows unread beside the individual feeds. The problem now happens almost every day. The only solution is to choose the view all RSS feeds and find the unread items.
I am also noticing that web page loading is also much slower than it was in 3.x. Get tired of that spinning loading at the right of the address entry bar. The beach ball is more interesting because it is in color.
I have 18 Mbps broadband, so that isn't the problem, as all the slowdowns happened as soon as I started using Safari 4.
So much for snappier loading

I don't understand why you're using Safari for your RSS feeds; it's not an ideal solution compared to a dedicated RSS reader like Vienna, NetNewsWire, or Newsfire; I'd use one of those and turn off RSS feeds in Safari's preferences pane.
But Safari 4 is faster than Safari 3; it isn't for you because of a variety of factors, so let's change them and see if we can't speed things up. Here's what you can do:
Try changing your Network settings to use OpenDNS
Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder, then use the Get Info panel to Lock the folder.
Go to ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder, then use the Get Info panel to Lock the folder.
Go to ~/Library/Safari and delete these files:
Downloads.plist
History.plist
LastSession.plist
TopSites.plist (if you don't want to use Top Sites, Lock that file right after you restart.)
WebpageIcons.db
Restart Safari and see if your problem is solved.

• What is RSS feeds and how it can be used in Portal.

Hi All,
Please someone have any idea , "How can we use the RSS feeds in portal " . This is a new concept for me , so I m totally aliegn for this topic.
Thanks in advance.
Mayank kumar saxena

Hi,
We already done some development based on rss feed, but it was not for any portal content.
We generated these files outside portal then scheduled to upload to km folder.
In portal, we have to use km repostitory to store these file. By setting these folders for anonymous access, user can subsribe to this Feed, which will get updated with out login.
The basic requirement to develope rss feed is to understand the xml format. With the help of internet you can learn, its simple.

Try to put this code in km as xml file and browse it. This file will act as Feed. Search internet for more info about feeds.

• Rss feed address for a wiki page

Wondering what the rrs feed url is for a group wiki- I've tried a few in mail to subscribe to but they dont seem to work. Maybe I need the password/user name somehow

I'm not running the Wiki software to check this; the following is generic RSS.
Is there an RSS icon (often an orange chicklet, though Safari shows a blue RSS chicklet) visible (somewhere) in the browser?
If so, there's an RSS feed. If not, there probably isn't. (Or your chosen browser doesn't display RSS feeds, mayhap?)
In most browsers, you can click on the RSS icon to subscribe.
If your browser doesn't have the RSS icon, you can usually determine if there is a View Source (often Cmd-U) and search for the RSS entry in the HTML text. Cut-and-paste the URL into your RSS viewer, and off you go.
Depending on the browser and how the browser and the RSS viewer is configured, clicking on the icon will subscribe to the RSS feed. (The feed will be subscribed in some RSS viewer, though maybe not the one you wanted to use.)
I don't know of a good way to get the RSS feed in Safari without either subscribing (and then fetching the URL out of the RSS stash), or without looking at the URL. I haven't found a chord that retrieves it into the paste buffer.
