RSS feed implementation in APEX

Hi all,
I'm trying to implement RSS (Really Simple Syndicate) feed in the APEX .
There's a page which shows data from the table in the database. The RSS feed has to reflect changes made to the database. Like if any data is added to the Database any RSS reader subscribed to the RSS feed should get updated with the content.
I'm not sure how to start with and there is little help available. Please help.

It helped. But still i've to address many problems.
1. when i run the page containing the code (htp.init; rss;) ,sometimes it shows the output while at others there's a page with no content. But if i go the view page source of that blank page, it contains the xml code.
2. google reader was able to fetch the RSS feeds. while in microsoft outlook the feed was not updating.
The above was tried on an experimental basis in apex.oracle.com
3.When i tried to implement it for my actual project, the readers like Google reader or even the microsoft outlook was not able to find the page in which i was outputting the RSS feed.
Any help will be appreciated.

Certain RSS feeds do not display in scrolling Omniportlet

I've been attempting to get some RSS feeds implemented in our portal with mixed results. I am using portal and PDK versions 10.1.2.0.0. I am using a slightly modified version of the XSL file available here (http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/portal/viewlets/omniportletnews.xsl) as I've added pubDate as a field.
Some feeds, like NPR's top stories (http://www.npr.org/rss/rss.php?id=1001) will scroll fine, though others, like the FDA's news feed (http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/news/rssPress.xml) give an empty portlet frame. Both of these feeds display when the portlet layout is set to Plain.
Is there a trick that I'm missing?

If you go to http://www.portaltown.com, under Demos\Dash and Demos\Dash Editor you can see an RSS feed aggregator that provides graphical layout for a portal page. This provides an extremly simple way to grab feeds and publish them with dynamic parameters (height,width,positon,scrollers,etc..) which can be user defineable if elected. It can also be integrated with OID for user and group access. It is built with Java and Oracle libraries and is totally free for download with source included. Portaltown can also help with the integration into your enviornment if desired to ensure successful integration.

JSONP support for APEX RSS feed

Hi,
We have an APEX application that leverage's APEX and UCM API to create a RSS feed that is displayed on the Content Portal.

The feed XML is converted to a JSON object and displayed on the home page using jquery.
Up until last week this feed was displaying fine but now its broken and can no longer be seen on the home page.
Our logs indicate that the feed content is being pulled as before without errors.

A test page created to investigate the issue shows the following error -

Could this possibly have to do with the recent upgrade on the APEX server as this worked perfectly earlier?
Could the JSON support for RSS feed might have been affected?

Your servers are in a personal network and we can not connect to them without setting up some kind of vpn connection.
I would suggest that you install firebug in firefox and just look in the console what is happening.
Firebug can monitor json to.

RSS Feed on Apex

Does anyone know how to show an RSS feed in APEX ? I have seen examples showing shredded items in a report. I want to show the RSS Feed XML as you can see at this link:

Anything I do in Apex, it shows as text stripping XML tags.

First, there's a setting in the report attributes to enable / disable HTML tags in your report.
Second, I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve is going to work. I believe (but have not tried) that browsers such as Firefox will render complete XML files, such as an RSS feed, with a default stylesheet. I don't think they'll render XML that is part of and HTML document. IMHO, you should confirm this, perhaps with a simple HTML file with some embedded XML before you start writing a bunch of SQL / PL/SQL to test this.
Third, what is your end goal? If users need a particular browser render this feed, are you perhaps expecting too much of your end users?

Implementing RSS Feeds

I am implementing RSS Feeds using JAVA. I could implement it successfully by creating XML file required for Feeds in Tomcat Server. But i am not able to implement any kind of security. I need users to enter some kind of credentials before they receive RSS Feeds. Else i need to fetch the mail id from the outlook ( RSS Reader in my case ) and display details depending on the mail id. Will it be possible to fetch this ?
Please help me .

Investigate ways to set up HTTP authentication in Tomcat. There's probably a way to tie it to Exchange directly, and if not, there's probably a way to tie it to an LDAP server, and Exchange probably exposes an LDAP service or an LDAP server can be wrapped around it. I don't know. Google for more information.
OK, that will restrict users to authentication. But note however that existing RSS tools might not expect authentication, at least not of that type. You'll have to try some experiments and try out various tools you may need. Survey your users and see what they need and what they can live without.
Once you have that set up, if you want to create different feeds based on user role, you can get the user information from the HttpServletRequest object. Apparently there's a "user role" thing. Hopefully the authentication you tie into Tomcat can set that. If not, perhaps you can make Tomcat just pass through everybody during authentication and do the authentication for real on the application level.
Again, I suspect your biggest issue will be with RSS aggregators and the like, but who knows.
I'm just throwing out ideas here. If you're hoping for someone to post a snippet of code that you can graft into your application...well I'm pretty sure this is the kind of problem that can't be solved that way. If you like the ideas above you can Google them and try to find tutorials.

I need help getting my RSS feed compaitble with Itunes...Im almost there.

Can someone help me with my code for itunes. Unfortunately I use rapidweaver to podcast and I have read there are a few things Rapidweaver leaves out when publishing the site so itunes does not accept the feed. My RSS feed works and can be subscribed manually though Itunes or with software. Im thinking im using spaces or it looks like I need to number my tracks for my podcast(which sounds odd but, I know itunes is finicky with spaces, symbols etc)

It's better to post the URL of the feed (as you have subsequently done) than the contents of the feed .
From the FeedValidator report the feed is basically OK for iTunes. There are several occasions where 'content:encoded' sections (following immediately on 'guid' tags) should be enclosed in
<description>...</description>
tags: however all this will be ignored by iTunes anyway and only applies to other readers. The 'potentially dangerous content' referred to by FeedValidator is within the 'content:encoded' tags and so isn't relevant to iTunes. They are referring to an inline css style, and I don't know whether this might cause a problem elsewhere.
You should really have a language tag, e.g.
<language>en-us</language>
(you have a dc:language tag but that's for a different system). This should be placed in the top section, before the first 'item' tag.
It's advisable to have an 'itunes:explicit' tag for each 'item' -
<itunes:explicit>yes IF CONTAINS ADULT MATERIAL, OTHERWISE no</itunes:explicit>
it's not compulsory if you have no adult material, but you must have a 'yes' if you do.
You can check your feed by subscribing in iTunes from the 'Advanced' menu - this has the same result as clicking the 'Subscribe' button on the Store page. If it works OK there you are ready to submit it.

RSS Feeds display in Flash but not browser

I have a Flash application that pulls an RSS feed and
displays the top 5 titles and descriptions. Everything works fine
when I test the application in Flash but when I try to publish the
file I get the security msg in IE (To help protect your security,
Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts
or ActiveX controls that could access your computer...blah blah).
When I test in Firefox the movie clips containing the feeds
simply don't appear (everything else does though). I'm using an
external class file to parse the xml from the feeds and populate
the movie clips with the content. Is there another way I should be
doing it, or is there a publish setting I'm unaware of that will
block external content from being displayed in the player?

Intergrating RSS Feeds into Flash Builder 4...

I am very new to Flash builder 4 and I want to make an application where the app user can read through all the RSS Feeds and get updates everytime their connected to the internet. I am making this for the BlackBerry Playbook if that makes a difference and also can it be really simple instructions like I said I'm very new to this.

Ok, I think you might have your message title worded wrong. I think you want RSS feeds in a FLEX application, not Flash Builder 4 itself??
I, myself, am trying to implement an RSS feed into my application but have other priorities unfortunately.

Using a Domain Log Filter to create an RSS feed?

Hi,
Not sure where to post this, but our production WLS8.1 server runs a handfull of seperate servers.
Is there a way to aggregate any critical/severe logging events that are generated within each server instance?
Is the domain log filter the piece that I need to capture these events and publish them to an RSS feed that our team can subscribe to?

Authenticated RSS feeds viewer in Sharepoint 2010

Hi All,
I need to create an RSS feed viewer in the sharepoint page from an external site (Service Now) in which authentication is needed. I tried adding the OOTB RSS viewer webpart and found out that in our environment they are not allowing authenticated
RSS feeds. So there is no point of asking for changing the authentication settings also.
Could some one let me know if there is any workaround to include the authenticated RSS feeds viewer in the sharepoint environment. Please let me know if we can achieve the same through any CEWP?

RSS Feed Problem with RDF files

Hi everyone,
I created a RSS feed like it is described in this weblog: Implementing A RSS Feed Reader In The Portal
Some RSS URLs work perfectly some don't work.
An example are RSS feeds like http://www.heise.de/newsticker/heise.rdf
Are .rdf files different from other RSS feeds?
How can I reference them from the portal?

Go to ~/LIbrary/Preferences and move the com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist file to the Trash then relaunch Safari.
See if that makes a difference. If not, from the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Empty Cache. Relaunch Safari.

RSS feed missing after Mountain Lion upgrade?

Hi everyone,
I appreciate your time and assistance here in addressing why my RSS feed from my Mail application has disappeared. After I upgraded to Mountain Lion last night, all of my RSS feeds are gone. Furthermore, I cannot add RSS feeds. Nor can I even search for "rss" in the help searchbar inside the application itself.
It seems as if the RSS component of the application itself has been erased. I have heard that perhaps the feature has been removed. If this is the case, can someone please articulate why Apple throught this was a good idea and perhaps how I can implement a new RSS component into mail?

Doubles in many of my RSS feeds.

Hello, for some reason, in many of my feeds, starting on Friday, I've been getting duplicates in my RSS feeds. Things like the rumour sites, Maccentral, Macosxhints, and others.
Anyone else having this problem and have solved it?
Be grateful to know. I saw someone back in later 2005 had this problem, but he never got a response.

I get duplicates in my RSS feeds all the time, and have been getting them ever since I started using Safari's RSS reader (ie: when it was first implemented, from 10.4.0-10.4.6).
It appears to have nothing to do with the originating site as it happens across all my feeds. Sometimes I get single dupes (ie: each entry will be listed twice), sometimes it's more (I've seen up to 5 dupes per entry so far).
It hasn't really bothered me hitherto, but glancing up to the bookmarks bar to see that I've got 32 new entries to read, just to find out 24 of them are dupes, is starting to get tiresome.
Surely I'm not the only one on Earth experiencing this? Am I?
