RSS feed on Iweb

After I've published my site I cant get the RSS feed on Iweb to work. When you click on it, nothing happens. How do I fix this?
here's the page so you can see what I am talking about. www.kellistwocents.com

RSS feeds don't do that - if they add the feed to an RSS reader (including Safari or FireFox) they will see new updates every time they check: but sending them emails on each added episode would require extra programming in the actual program, which iWeb doesn't provide. You would need to have a mailing list and send out an email manually each time you add an episode.

If the file you're editing has an ".html" extension, then this from TextEdit's +Help viewer+ may be relevant:
If you want to work with an existing HTML file, choose File > Open and select the file you want. Be sure to select “Ignore rich text commands.” When you save the file, it remains a “.html” file.
...And there are other places where important selections are made for HTML files:
In TextEdit's Save dialogue, select "HTML" from the +File Format+ menu.
    In TextEdit's +Preferences > New Document+ tab, select +"Plain text"+.
In TextEdit's +Preferences > Open and Save+ tab, select +"Ignore rich text commands in HTML files"+.
XML is not HTML your last post is irrelevant you should know what you're talking about before providing recommendations.

    funky_ben,
You do not add XML data into an html file it should be inserted into an XML file look over the iTunes tech spec page provided unfortunately reading comprehension is required.

  • Changing RSS Feed in iWeb

I use iWeb'09, GarageBand and MobileMe, and want to find out how to simply change the existing RSS feed for my podcast series in iWeb without resorting to using any further applications.
    Many thanks in advance.

You can edit the RSS feed in any plaintext editor.
Or leave it to iWeb to update the file.

  • Make RSS feed with iWeb, personal domain name

I have a question I jus can't figure out, even asked at an Apple store today in Minnesota.
I created my website with iWeb, simple to do and used my personal domain, http://www.jannetwalsh.com.
I just can't figure out how to create the RSS feed.
Do I need to place a feed file in the public file where I "house" my site?  Any suggestions would be great.  I am learning and would love to learn more!
    Thanks,
    Jannet

iWeb is being phased out. Suggest you put your efforts into something you don't have to redo right away.

  • RSS Feed on iWeb Issue

    Using: iWeb ver 3.0.3
I'm having an issue with RSS Feed button on my Blog Page after the site is published.
When a vistor press the RSS Feed they get ... Error 404 not found
Essentially the page that iWeb is sending the user to is
    http://www.website.com/site-name-on-iweb/Blog/rss.xml instead of ...
    http://www.website.com/Blog/rss.xml
The same issue appears when you try to view the website the site-name-on-iweb appears instead of the user being sent to ...
http://www.website.com iWeb takes you to http://www.website.com/site-name-on-iweb
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.  Thanks

    Hi LPopoff,
Per my knowledge, there is no difference for Form library with the RSS Feed.
Please clear the cache in Internet Explorer(IE) and then check the results again.
It seems that IE has cached the feed data and display the result the same as the original one.
    Thanks,

  • Wrong time zone with rss feed in iWeb

I'm using the RSS widget in iWeb, and all the RSS items are nine hours off - meaning they're on California time (I'm in Norway). The time zone is wrong even when I look at the feed in iWeb, so I don't think it's a server issue (and I'm not publishing to MobileMe).
I've found a couple of other questions about this on the board, but no answers, so here we go again... anyone? I've tried several different feeds.

Same question! There must be some command-line hack to fix this. Any one figured it out?
It's posted times in USA Pacific time by default (GMT -8). This is iWeb 3.0.1.

  • RSS feed with iWeb

    Hi there,
Can i add RSS feed onto my iWeb site?
    www.echoplexe.com
    Thanks for your time.
    Martin

It looks like your site http://www.echoplexe.com is hosted on a 3rd party server, right? So right now what you are doing is doing a "Publish to Folder" in iWeb and then uploading the site files to your server, right? Well, next time you "Publish to Folder" take a closer look at the file dialog window that opens. At the bottom of that window there is actually a field for you to enter your domain so that iWeb can put the RSS feed in there for you... just type in http://www.echoplexe.com/ in there and I think you'll see your RSS feed after you upload.
If this is useful information to you, please do me a favor and mark this reply as "solved" or "helpful" using the little buttons in the title bar of this reply. I would appreciate it immensely. Thanks.

  • Editing XML/RSS feed in iWeb to input all neccessary information for iTunes

I have been trawling through a lot of the other posts but don't seem to be able to find an answer.
Basically, i have successfully created my own page to host my podcasts and i have had my RSS feed accepted by iTunes. I can now view my podcast from the link the iTunes staff sent to me, however i am unable to find it by typing the name into the search bar. I have read in the podcast help on this forum that it may be because i have to add 'key words' to the XML as this is what the search tool uses to find the podcasts but i am unable to work out exactly how to do this. I have found my XML page and attempted to insert some lines using TextEdit but this just appears to corrupt my feed.
If anyone has had a similar problem and knows of a solution, it would be greatly appreciated by myself.
    Thanks for reading :o)

  • RSS feed INTO iweb account

I can't use the blog in iWeb because I live at school and the IT department has a firewall up all over campus. So I use livejournal instead. I'm wondering if there is a way to feed my livejournal into my iWeb, or at least have a link at the top that goes to my livejournal, without having to create an entirely new page within iWeb.

Have a look at this Mail Chimp tutorial

  • Using RSS Feeds and Podcasts

I've spent some time trying to figure all of this out but for some reason I can't quite grip how it all works, and how to do it. If anyone knows of any links that would help me how to create a podcast and use the RSS Feeds in iWeb, that would be great. Or if anyone knows an easy way to explain it.

    Hi Josh,
I'm having similar problems as you -- I created a website on iWeb, and made a podcast in mp3 format that I put on the site. I wanted to submit the RSS feed to iTunes, so the podcast would be available through the iTunes store. But neither iTunes nor Feedburner recognizes the URL for the RSS feed. I'm wondering if I got the URL wrong, or if iWeb's automatically-generated "Subscribe" button doesn't work, or what. Any tips? Whatever happened with your podcast? I've spent hours and hours online trying to figure this out. Thanks!

  • How do I get the RSS Feed to work when loading onto server other than .mac?

Does anyone have any knowledge of this? I am uploading a site created in iWeb on to a Media Temple which of course, disables many key functions in iWeb. One thing it supposedly doesn't disable though, is the RSS Feed, provided you input the proper URL when publishing the site. However, after nearly 20 tries with as many variations on the url as I could think of, nothing seems to work. Anyone have any insight? Many thanks in advance.

    It takes two things...
    1. Entering the correct base URL in the Publish to Folder window, and...
    2. Uploading the correct files to your server
    Number 1
When you select "Publish to Folder", there should be a little text field where you are asked to enter in a URL. What you need to enter here is the base URL for your site, and in most cases this is simply your domain name: http://www.yourdomain.com That's it. Nothing more. iWeb will then take this URL base and generate a functioning RSS feed URL.
    Number2
When you select "Publish to Folder", you are asked to specify a folder INTO which iWeb will save the files necessary for the functioning of your site. You will need to upload only the CONTENTS of this specified folder, which includes only TWO items: an index.html file & your sitefolder. You must upload only these two items to your server WITHOUT the enclosing folder (the one you told iWeb to publish into.
If you satisfy the above two conditions (and only if you satisfy these two conditions), then you will end up with a functioning, automatically generated RSS feed from iWeb on your own server. There are other ways of achieving this endpoint (a functioning RSS feed), but this is the ONLY way to get iWeb to do all the work for you.

  • Inserting metatags into RSS feed

I am podcasting with garageband and using iweb 06 to publish to my site at mac.com. I cannot find any info on how to insert code (I want to submit a summary and photo logo to itunes - I have all the code, metatags, etc ready to go) into my RSS feed from iweb 06.
All the other web packages I use, allow me to access and code in html. Is that just not possible in iweb 06?
I submitted my podcast to itunes and it just used that episode's artwork and no summary. It's a bust!
    Please help.

As far as SEO is concerned, the title tag is the most important. The meta tag, or keywword tag, is not given much importance by Google anymore due to overuse and abuse but may be worth including for other search engines.
The title tag can be added in iWeb but, since it is mostly useless without a meta description, its better to use the freeware iWeb SEO Tool to add this stuff...

SEO Tool was updated recently. Get the latest version HERE.

  • How do I get the RSS feeds to work in iWeb'08 when published to FTP server?

There are so many unresolved questions because I have published to an FTP server (Netfirms). HOWEVER, my next task at hand is to resolve the issue of a non-working RSS feed and download capabilities.
    The published website is www.vibrationalvoyages.com.
When using Cyberduck to upload to Netfirms, I have to call the file name vibrationalvoyages.com because Netfirms organizes my files under a main folder called www (I also purchased the .org and .net extensions along with the singular spelling of the title, have forwarded those url's to the .com extension, which means I have different website names under Netfirm's main folder www, all pointing to www.vibrationalvoyages.com).
I have to drop the www. in front of vibrationalvoyages.com when publishing to a folder on my computer so, when Cyberduck uploads the files into the main www folder, they are read correctly and published as www.vibrationalvoyages.com. In Cyberduck, the ftp address to upload is vibrationalvoyage.netfirms.com
Before uploading, I use iTweak to insert the Statcounter tracking codes. Then, I use Rage to optimize the site to cut down on the weight (lots of photos). Then, finally, I get to upload which takes about an hour and a half.
SO, HOW DO I GET THE RSS FEEDS TO WORK AS WELL AS THE OPTION TO DOWNLOAD AN MP3 RECORDED MEDITATIONS? I eventually also want to include the download option of podcasts.
Please help! I am doing the best I can to stay in love with Mac but he is turning out to be a pot load of work and the love affair is wearing a little thin.
I haven't even asked about why iWeb still calls some pages 'The family picnic" or why it switches the url addresses to the individual pages. Probably because in the early stages, I copied an entry rather than just do a new one... but I'll worry about that later. I want to get this 'fixed' first and then I'll address the issue, following Roddy's advice to another writer about installing a flash player, for easy download of the MP3 meditations and for when I record the lessons as podcasts. Until I get this RSS issue resolved, however, podcast downloads are out of the question!

    Thank you for checking, Tom,
I'm confused. What do YOU get when you push the feed button? And why is it working on yours and not either of my machines?
Today, my Mac (w/Safari 4) gets the same error message: Safari can’t open the page Safari can’t open the page “feed:http://vibrationalvoyages/vibrationalvoyages.com/DivineLight_Vibrations_Principles_andApplications/rss.xml”. The error is: “The feed could not be loaded because the content is not in a known feed format.”
My little ASUS (with a Linux operating system) gets a screen that says "The requested URL was not found". The URL on that page is http://vibrationalvoyages./vibrationalvoyages.com/DivineLight_Vibrations_Principles_andApplications/rss.xml
On both error messages, the URL I was checking was:
    http://www.vibrationalvoyages.com/DivineLight_Vibrations_Principles_and_Applications/Divine_Light_Vibrations_Principles_ andApplications.html
The last URL was, of course, the URL generated by iWeb.
    So, my question still is:
HOW CAN I GET MY FEEDS TO WORK PROPERLY? If the problem is there shouldn't be an http:// after feed: then, how do I get iWeb to set it up properly?
    Any ideas?

  • IWeb 08 and RSS feeds on godaddy

Hello friends - I am setting up a website to be hosted on godaddy. I had no problems uploading the site using easyiwebpublisher. However, I want to use the blog function. I set up the blob on iweb and I can read them on the site, but when I click the "subscribe to RSS" link on my page it says:
"The page you tried to access does not exist on this server. This page may not exist due to the following reasons:
You are the owner of this web site and you have not uploaded (or incorrectly uploaded) your web site. For information on uploading your web site using FTP client software or web design software, click here for FTP Upload Information.
The URL that you have entered in your browser is incorrect. Please re-enter the URL and try again.
The Link that you clicked on incorrectly points to this page. Please contact the owner of this web site to inform them of this situation."
Any help on how to get the RSS feed to work w/o mobileme?
I understand it may not work without MobileME but I wanted to know if anyone has a workaround.
    One more bit of data:
When I publish to folder the pop-up has me enter the URL for my site because "iWeb uses the URL to provide an RSS feed for your blog."
Does that mean I put http://www.weirdfantasy.com/ or should I put the URL for my RSS feed page? http://www.weirdfantasy.com/WeirdFantasy/News/rss.xml
I put http://www.weirdfantasy.com/ and I get the error message.
    Jawko -out...

If I upload the index.html that isn't in the sitefolder, won't it just overwrite the one in the sitefolder?
No. You can't overwrite something inside a folder with something you put outside the folder. It is normal for there to be an index.html in both places in an iWeb site.
I just did that using the godaddy FTP uploader and now I can't get to my homepage. Says it can't be found.
I recommend that you never use the uploader provided by a host, as they often result in things not being uploaded correctly. Instead use a real ftp app.
