RSS in Mavericks / Safari 7

Hi
This is probably a silly question/easy fix... but after an hour of browsing for some reason I can't find an answer.
I've never used RSS readers before, but want to in Mavericks, in notification centre.  From what I can tell RSS Feeds are re-intorduced in Mavericks, question is where?  When I click to subscribe to RSS Feed, I'm told I have no reader installed and have to choose an application or download one.  So is an RSS Reader reintroduced in Safari / Maverick?  How do I enable it if so?  From videos there seems to be an option in Mail but it's not there for me?
Thanks in advance.

Hi mmunger!
I think I have a solution for you:
According to this: http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/apples_safari_6_rss_blunder
there is only the option to edit the the plist: com.apple.LaunchServices.plist in ~/Library/Preferences
because the mentioned program for setting default Applications RCDefaultApp: http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/ did not work reliably according to him.
I could not find the entry that sets the behaviour for opening RSS feeds in that mentioned plist, so I just tried RCDefaultApp under Mavericks and it worked just fine. In the "Internet"-tab I selected RSS and then my default Application "Feedy", that I have just bought off the app store because it looked nice. (And it works nicely, too.) Now I just hope RCDefaultApp does not mess up other things.
That mentioned article is from the 8th of August 2012, maybe there is better solution in the meantime? Maybe there is a modern alternative to the mentioned RCDefaultApp? I could not find one, but I have not looked very hard, yet.
By the way: In my case RSS feeds were opened in my Gmail Fluid App. Each RSS entry opened a tab there, which meant that 927 tabs were opened at the same time which completely blocked my computer. Everytime this happened I had to force quit the app and then I had to delete the ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.fluidapp.FluidApp.[Name].savedState folder so that the Fluid App would not restore all the 927 tabs when I opened it again.

  • I am unable to access my Bank website since upgrading to Mavericks (Safari 7)

I am unable to access my Bank website since upgrading to Mavericks (Safari 7)
I get the following error message in Safari before I even have the opportunity to
    connect to my bank's website.
It works fine in Firefox and Chrome.
    Access Denied
You don't have permission to access "http://www.tdbank.com/" on this server.

I experienced the same problem where by I could not log into my Nationwide Bank account when I had upgraded Safari to the latest Version before Mavericks 6.1.0 on OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.5. I believe.
I already had Trusteer Rapport installed as recommended by banks.
Some Banks worked but Nationwide skipped the log in page and kept taking me to a page about Cookies telling me I needed to enable them but they were enabled. I just could not get into the Log In Page. Incidentally the Nationwides Cookies screen shot is of an out of date Cookies setting page - it is now under privacy in Safari preferences.
I then installed Rapport again when it popped up as an option and bingo I could get to the Log In page.
Took the plunge and upgraded last evening to Mavericks
Same probelm occured cannot Log In to Nationwide.
I have just stopped Trusteer Rapport and thank goodness I can get into Log On again.
However when I logged out and tried to open another site Safari crashed with the following error message
"safari quite unexpectedly while using trf.dylib plug-in"
Chose Reopen and safari opened Ok
I googled the message and that got me here - seems it is Trusteer Rapport
So someone needs to sort this out I guess Trusteer I guess?
    Hope this is helpful
    Cheers

file:///.file/id=7692994.26file:///.file/id=7692994.26Flash Player 11 keeps disappearing after finishing the installation on iMac Maverick & Safari 7.

Download the full installer: http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/mac /install_flash_player_11_osx.dmg
Save it. DO NOT mount it or run it.
Spotlight Search "Flash Player.plugin", search the Mac HD, and trash EVERYTHING that appears.
    Go to: Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
Verify that the Flash Player.plugin file is not present.  If it is, trash it.
Go to: Mac HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash Player
Verify that neither the Flash Player folder nor the Flash Player Install Manager folder  exist.  If either does, trash the whole folder
    Empty the trash.
THEN mount the DMG and run the installer again.

Unable to open RSS Feeds in Safari, I am forced to use the Mail app.
Since I have Safari 6.0 (OS X Lion 10.7.4 on MacBook Pro bought this year)  I am being forced to use the Mail app in order to open RSS Feeds, but I do not want to use the Mail app.
Does someone please has a solution for me? People form Apple, are you reading this? It is annoying me.

Firefox doesn't show how many unread items there are in a feed, but Safari 5.x did.  I guess I have no reason to use Safari anymore.

  • See rss feed in safari

How can I see my rss feeds in Safari? There seems not to be a button.

You can use App Store or appstorm.net to find RSS Reader's.  There is great applications for free. Also don't know if there is but you can check Safari Extensions. There should be one.

Also would prefer not to have to use safari bookmarks if possible.
There is an option under the info tab when you plug in your iPhone to not sync bookmarks.

  • Mavericks Safari form fill from keychain broken

I upgraded to Mavericks yesterday on one of my machines, and I think Safari form fill from keychain is broken.
I have 2 Google accounts that I use regularly. Lets call them accounts GA and GB.
When I attempt to sign into Google from Lion Safari, I get given the choice of which login to use (presumably because Google has stored the memory of GA and GB in a cookie), and then I get asked for the password for the one I have chosen (even though I am sure the password for both is stored in the keychain).
When I attempt to sign in from Mavericks Safari, I get the same first question as to which login I want, and then the screen for the one I have chosen. This time the password has been autofilled from the keychain, HOWEVER, no matter which login I have chosen, GA or GB, and no matter which account name is displayed GA or GB, safari always sends the details for account GA to google. I have no way of logging into account GB, and worse, I might think I have logged into account GB, but I am actually logged into account GA. Dangerous indeed if this were a bank login!
I may be able to get back to logging into GB if I removed google's cookies that have stored memories of GA and GB, but I have not tried this yet.
Anyone else seeing a problem like this?

Probably too late for you, but in case anyone else stumbles on this topic...
    There are 2 approaches.
1- Copy the Form Values file over to the new computer.  It is encrypted with a password in the user keychain, so you will have to copy that keychain over.  If you dont want that keychain, then you would have to get just the safari autofill forms password out of the keychain, and change the new keychain safari value to match.
2- Decrypt the values, and use them for reference until it all gets populated back in naturally.

  • OS x mavericks Safari hangs when i swipe between pages

OS x mavericks Safari hangs when i swipe between pages
i configured the mouse to swipe between pages one of the best basic features from apple
and now OS x mavericks kills it. and i use force to stop a lot with this new update.
and Mavericks is going to feel more like Microsoft windows slow, annoying, no fun to work with

I have the exact same problem. The mystery is that it happens everytime on my iMac and does not happen on my MacBook Air.  Both are running the same versions of everything.

  • Since upgrading to Mavericks, Safari/Adobe are constantly blocking access to PDF files

Since upgrading to Mavericks, Safari/Adobe (Version 7.0 (9537.71)) are constantly blocking access to PDF files.
I can intuit what this is all about, however, I can find no information about it... the Adobe Plugin/Safari is apparently building a "white-list" of "trusted sites," but I can not find any information about this white-list -- where it is stored, how to revoke permisions, how to "one-time" permissions, etc.
    Anyone have any ideas?

I am experiencing this exact same behavior since upgrading to Mavericks, too.

  • Since mavericks safari changes bookmarks- can't restore w/Time Machine

I am BEYOND frustrated. Since I installed Mavericks, Safari has been changing my bookmarks, seemingly on it's own. It's done it three times.
I even worked with support at Apple. When we went back into the Time Machine I was able to restore the bookmarks. But I actually wrote down the time that the bookmarks were correct, restored it, and then did a save on the Time Machine. But today, it happened again, and even the Time Machine has the wrong version- not just on the date it was corrected with Apple Support, but on practically every date that I've checked. (I can't go back so far that I'm going to lose the new saved bookmarks).
Now I don't know if it's my Time Machine that is ALSO screwed up! They're telling me to do a reinstall- but I know how much time and effort that takes- and WHY would that make things better if I'm installing the same backup?
I am so unhappy with Mavericks and all these problems and the time I've wasted. I feel like I'm on a PC!!
Anyone have suggestions- other than taking a BIG drink and leaving my computer for a couple of weeks?

It's fixed! This is what happened. I called Apple Support because it's been a problem with Mavericks. The first Senior Advisor didn't know what she was doing. In fact, she encouraged me to do a reinstall- which I know is something that I won't do unless there is nothing else possible.
The second Senior Advisor, Patrick, knew RIGHT AWAY what the problem was! He said the cloud was resetting the bad bookmarks.   The cloud has to be turned off so it wouldn't reload the wrong bookmarks list.I deleted the wrong list, went into the Time Machine and pulled up the last good backup; restored. Then I went into the cloud and turned it back on. Now it works! Yee Hah!
Bottom line is: all of the senior advisors don't know the right answer- if you feel frustrated, ask for another.

  • Mavericks Safari RSS Problem

Opening Safari RSS reader Firefox opens and multiple tabs continue to open a a rapid rate...I have to force quit Firefox. I have Safai as my default browser in preferences.
    MBP 09 w/Mavericks updated

    Errr... well.... solved!! I think.
I chose "all" from the list of feeds on the lower right of the page, and there they are. I think I've set it to remove all feeds after 1 day or so and the selected feed has not updated in the day and that may be why none were showing...!
I hope this proves helpful for someone else.

  • Suscripcion RSS en Mavericks

    Hola
