  • IWeb 08 Podcast/RSS problems

Yup, iWeb has shot my podcast...
I will post discoveries here as I learn them. Will be grateful for any help, of course!!!
Still coming to grips with new file names/locations. First thing is iWeb seems to be dealing with spaces differently now. Previously it did the old %20 thing in my podcast - Popology Podcast read Popology%20Podcast. Now, it's replaced that with an underscore - Popology_Podcast. However, it doesn't seem to have occured to the code monkeys to tell whatever generates the rss.xml file that! A manual edit of the rss.xml file doesn't help either.
I'm using feedburner, so I've changed it there, and it's starting to kick into gear, though it isn't seeing the podcast images...
More to come as I discover it.
Again - please - any advice most appreciated - and if I've gotten anything wrong so far, please put me straight! I'm just a Joe-Bloggs, not a super-web-guy...

My podcast's address, as seen in iTunes music store is:
    http://rss.mac.com/popology/iWeb/Popology/Popology%20Podcast/rss.xml
But according to iWeb's new way of dealing with spaces, this should now have an underscore instead of a %20.
    http://rss.mac.com/popology/iWeb/Popology/Popology_Podcast/rss.xml
I've tried avoiding the problem by entering my feedburner address into the rss.xml file...
    <itunes:new-feed-url>http://feeds.feedburner.com/popology</itunes:new-feed-url>
But that didn't work. I've pinged my podcast, and when I search for it in the music store, delete and resubscribe, it still doesn't pick up that it should go to the feedburner feed.
QUESTION: Am I editing the wrong file - rss.xml - in my podcast directory? This seems to be a new location - till I upgraded, the RSS files were in a seperate folder (up a few levels on my idisk) altogether, but there's nothing there now...?
I'm considering trying to remove the space in the original iWeb design on my comp and reuploading... 128k upstream... hmm - that will take a while...

  • RSS Problem--Articles won't display

I'm having some trouble with my Safari RSS and could use some help. Safari is letting me know when new content is posted to the RSS feed (i.e. the numbers are showing up), but when I switch to the RSS page, it won't display the article summaries (i.e. there's no text). I have tried resetting Safari and restoring the RSS bookmarks, but the problem remains. Can anyone out there help me? Please? Thanks!

  • Big Problem! - Veriation of RSS Problem??

Ok, so as you can see I have the first version of the 2 GHZ Macbook, and I have a HUGE problem!
Most of my applications, mainly safari, itunes, iphoto, textedit, pages & ichat shut down on thier own over and over again, a box pops up asking if i want to restart the application, I click yes, it re-boots the app and then crashes again, 8 or 9 times in a row, it happens really fast as well, doesnt really get a chance to fully open. Also finder does the same thing, I try and shut down or restart, and I can't becasue the bar at the top of the screen dissapears and comes back up over and over and over, it's really getting anoying!
When I finnaly shut down and reboot it does it again, so I shut down and restart and then its ok, for maybe 6 or 8 hours sometimes even a day, then it does it again.
I have done a full erase and reinstall of tiger twice now, I have repaired all permissions, and repaired permissons from the start up disk, i have reset the SMC, PMU & VRAM, all my firmware is up to date.
Applecare said its a hardware problem and to take it into get fixed but I hate being without my computer for weeks on end!
does anyone know whats wrong or has heard of this????!!
It doesn't seem to have the same symptoms as the RSS issue as my computer has never fully shut down or restarted itself own its own, but I figured it may be related in some way????
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi
Thanks for you message. I followed an article to set up
another rss feed which worked previously. It said that as long as
you put 'AddType application/x-httpd-php .xml' in the .htaccess
    file and <? header('Content-type: text/xml'); ?> in the .xml
file, this will tell the server to treat all .xml file as PHP
    files.
I have altered the code slightly, changing all <? to
<?php, as this was the main problem with the validator. The file
now loads through the browser without any errors, it just seems to
    ignore the php;

  • RSS Problems not fixed with 10.5.2

I've upgraded to Mac OS 10.5.2 and I'm still having the same problems with RSS feeds as I did before in both Mail and Safari. I am unable to receive new RSS articles to Mail or Safari. Apple said that this issue was fixed with 10.5.2 but it wasn't for me. Please help.

After reading about the problem in the April issue of MacWorld, page 96 I think, I brought the computer over to the Apple store, showed them the article, and they ordered me a new graphics card (well, it was a little more difficult and time-consuming than that, but you get my drift) - a more recent version of the card.
Et voila!!! No more screen junk. Isn't that kewl?

  • Strange RSS Problem

Hoping you can help me with this, as I have a somewhat strange problem with the Safari RSS feeds. I was developing a website for someone and put together a dynamically created feed which work in firefox, explorer, chrome and opera, but for some reason not in Safari. Safari only loads one of the posts out of the feed file.
The rss feed is a php file with xml header so that it's read the way an xml would be (like I said, this works in every browser but Safari) and uses xml version 1.0 and RSS version 2.0
This problem shows up on both the Windows version of Safari and the Leopard version of Safari
Thanks for any help you can give

enable the develop toolbar in safari for mac (through system prefs -> advanced -> show develop menu in menu bar. then try to load your feed. go to the develop menu and choose user agent -> internet explorer 7.0. if it can then load the page, all ie7 users should be able to see it fine. change the user agent to safari 3.1 --mac. if it can't load it then, all mac safari uses will not be able to see the page.

  • Mavericks Safari RSS Problem

Opening Safari RSS reader Firefox opens and multiple tabs continue to open a a rapid rate...I have to force quit Firefox. I have Safai as my default browser in preferences.
    MBP 09 w/Mavericks updated

    Errr... well.... solved!! I think.
I chose "all" from the list of feeds on the lower right of the page, and there they are. I think I've set it to remove all feeds after 1 day or so and the selected feed has not updated in the day and that may be why none were showing...!
I hope this proves helpful for someone else.

  • RSS problem after snow leopard upgrade

I just upgraded from 10.5.8 to 10.6.3 and my rss feeds get a "Safari can't open page" with this error message: “The operation couldn’t be completed. (PubSub error 203.)” (PubSub:203). How do I fix this?

I suggest you try the solution described here:

  • RSS - can't load any RSS feed

I use RSS daily. This afternoon it stopped working. My feeds stopped getting updated, and then I realized I cannot load any RSS feed in Safari.
If for example I try:feed://www.apple.com/main/rss/hotnews/hotnews.rss, I just see a blank safari window, and at the bottom it says... "contacting www.apple.com". It never times out with an error message. It just doesn't seem to be able to get the feed. This is true for all of my feeds, and any new ones I try to view.
RSS works normally in other accounts on my computer, so the problem is local to my account.
I have seen others post here with similar problems, but I can't find any answers for my issue. Anyone have any suggestions?

OK, Looks like I solved my problem. I am posting what I did here in case it helps anyone else with the same problem.
Over at Mac OSX Hints, I found the following post: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070916123611119
    -x- snip -x-
+"I have experienced this problem several times in the past few years, both on a G4 PowerBook and Intel iMac. For no reason, Safari will stop updating my RSS feed counts in the Bookmarks bar. RSS still functions and will update whenever a particular feed is selected, but the parenthetical numbers for each feed or folder do not change.+
+The fix is simple and doesn't hurt any of your RSS subscriptions. Just quit Safari, remove the Database3 file located in ~/Library » Syndication, and then launch Safari again. I move mine to the Desktop and trash it only after I've successfully restarted Safari and confirmed the problem is fixed. Safari will create a new file in its place.+
+Easy enough, but I've never seen it anywhere else online, and have forgotten it myself a few times."+
    -x- snip -x-
So I followed this and moved the database3 file out of the ->Library->Syndication folder, restarted Safari, and now RSS seems to be working normally.
By the way, instead of deleting the database3 file,I just moved it to the desktop, until I can confirm that everything is working correctly, and I will delete it later.
Hope this is of some help to you if you are having similar RSS problems in Safari.

  • RSS Feeds and own domain -- sorry but this is kind of a long question

I've been reading the very useful advice on RSS feeds and how they work with your own domain name.
I am trying to update my blog to my hosted site and I can't get it to follow the RSS path so that the subscription link works. (I am getting a file not found error message.)
I updated and published the site on .mac, where it is fine. <http://web.mac.com/lisajacobs/iWeb/Immigra/Blog/Blog.html>
Then I published the site again to the same folder I used when I put the site up this morning. Since I only wanted to change the blog pages and not the entire site, I ftp'ed up the Blog folder to my own domain site <http://www.immigra.com/Blog/Blog.html>
The published web folder on my desktop has in it folders along the lines of Extraordinary_files and Extraordinary.html and so forth for the different pages of the site. However, there is no corresponding Blog.html file.
I am thinking that this missing file may be the cause of the RSS problem -- but where is it? Why didn't iWeb make it for my folder? (I have an old Blog.html file on my site but it is clearly from the last iteration of the blog, as the latest blog entry is not there.)
Or is there a different cause of the problem that I am not diagnosing? I am reluctant to ftp the entire site up every time I change the blog for two reasons 1) I made an edit to the html code on the welcome page (so that links would open a different page) and 2) it takes a really long time to upload the whole thing, which makes it a pain to have quick blog updates.\

    However, when I uploaded
only the blog folder and its contents, it did not
    appear on my site.
I see the last entry as May 10, so that's the old one right?
My guess would be that you did not actually upload the new blog folder. Depending on how you have things organized, you may still have your old one there somewhere, and you may have selected it by mistake with your ftp program.
I would double-check the Blog folder on your drive to make sure it has been updated, and that this is the folder you have tried to upload.
Does publishing to the folder in itself change the
entire structure so that the whole site has to be
    FTP'ed up again?
    No.

  • RSD : a try to explain how the SMC firmware update works

    Hi everybody,
In another thread i read this post (there's only a part here) from fancontrol :
"Before the update, the fans started to speed up at about 75°C. Now they already start at about 64°C and then increase with CPU load and temperature. Before smc-update I could reach about 85°C running both cores at 100%, now they the macbook does not go beyond 77°C. By the way: The minimum fan-speed set by Apple is still 1500rpm."
The conclusion I made from this post is as follow :
There is a difference of 8°C (85°-77°) at 100%. That is to say that the internal temperature of the macbook is 8°C cooler after the update. It is probably this difference that could avoid the melting of the wires.
    ----- BEFORE THE UPDATE -----
If the fans start at a too high temperature (75°C)
Then the internal temperature increases and becomes too high (85°C) during a certain periode of time (more or less depending on how long the computer is used, the environment of the computer is used i.e. if the table is made of wood, etc)
    Then the wires melt
    Then RSD appears.
    ----- AFTER THE UPDATE -----
The SMC manages the start of the fans better. And after the update :
If the fans start at a lower temperature (64°C instead of 75°C)
Then the internal temperature is cooler
    Then the wires won't melt.
The SMC update works or not (??) probably depending on when the update is done (the state of the wires, melted or not). If the wires are too damaged, perhaps only a physical repair can solve the problem.
Another part of the update is probably also to ignore some signals from the sensors (if they aren't too damaged).
    Regards,
    Didier

    Hi,
I am just trying to understand by myself what does this **** update. Why Apple doesn't explain us what the firmware does?
In fact, my girlfriend wants to buy a new macbook but I told her to wait until it's sure the update fixes the problem. I want to be sure that a new macbook + SMC update won't never have the problem. She is finishing her PhD and she has no time to spend with a two weeks repair.
By reading forums on sites that talk about this problem, I am not sure that the update really fixes the problem for all of the macbooks and I am trying to know why.
In my previous post, I was just talking about the fact that if wires melt into the computer it's obviously (?) due to the heat.
OK, the wires don't melt on every macbook. It probably depends on the use of the processor ?
I thought that the update did probably several things :
    1) For the new macbooks, it prevents the problem (decreases the temperature of the start of the fans to avoid the problem of wires ? If it's a matter of wire, obviously)
    2) For little damaged macbooks, it fixes the problem (??) (ignores some signals from the sensors because redoundance)
    3) For the too damaged macbooks, it doesn't work because it's a physical problem.
But there's something I don't understand. It's not very logical.
    1) All of the macbook haven't the problem. OK. It's probably normal. They are not used the same way. and/or Perhaps, they don't have exactly the same components ? Is it possible ?
    2) Some repaired macbooks (by Apple) still have the problem. AppleCare changed the heatsink... but still RSS. ???? So It's not a physical problem ?
    3) Some updated macbooks (repaired or not) still have the problem. It's probably due to a physical problem : a too damaged wire ?
To summerize, I have two question :
    1) what does exactly the update (Am I right or wrong ?) (It's not very important)
    2) Can be sure that a new macbook + SMC update won't never have the RSS problem
    Regards,
    Didier
