RSS Visualizer

What happened to the RSS Visualizer screen saver in 10.8 Mountain Lion??? and how do I get it back?

Instead of griping, trying Googling.

  • RSS Visualizer missing from 10.4.11-help?

I have an iBook G4 with OS 10.4.11 loaded and RSS Visualizer is an option in the Preferences/Screensaver window. I also have an iMac G3 600MHz (Snow) running 10.4.11 as well and fully updated using Software Update as far as it would go. But RSS Visualizer is missing from the Preferences/Screensaver window. Anyone know why? Is it an issue between G3 and G4? If so, I'm confused as to why it wouldn't work...if anyone can explain this or help me load it, I would be eternally grateful! Thanks!

BDaqua: Thanks, but even when I get it right Jiminy Cricket seldom sings the Pinocchio movie opening song despite Galatians 6:7:second-half, so the road is long.
As for occasionally coming up with the right answer, I'm adept with search engines.

  • RSS Visualizer for Desktop instead of Screen Saver

Is there any hack to get the RSS Visualizer Screen saver to work as ones desktop?
    Thanks.

    Applescript:
    tell application "System Events" to
"ScreenSaverEngine" is in name of processes
if the result is true then
    tell application "ScreenSaverEngine" to quit
    else
    tell application "Terminal"
if not (exists window 1) then do script ""
    do script
    pt
    "/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Reso
    urces/ScreenSaverEngine.app/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaver
Engine -background &" in front window
    end tell
    end if
Can i do any harm with this operation. I've never used Applescript, though I do know how to bring up the editor and at least try what you suggest.
I just don't want to screw things up. Will this script give me the choice list in "Desktop" as in "Screensaver" utility?

  • Anyone else lost their RSS visualizer from the list of screensavers lately?

Okay, this one is weird... after a recent update, my RSS feed quit working. On looking up the screensaver/s, I could immediately see that the RSS visualizer has now disappeared. And I can't figure out any way whatsoever of getting it reintroduced.
Anyone have any ideas? Has this happened to you? Thx in advance guys, Len

Hiya BDAqua! OMG that did it! I repair permissions pretty regularly and of course had to reboot after the last security upgrade, but what must've happened was that I neglected to do so in that particular order this time around. :?
But it's fixed now and I see my news headlines are back on my screensaver. Yay!
    Thanks a bunch!

  • RSS Visualizer screen saver

I like the RSS Visualizer screen saver. I like the ability to display headlines from news websites like www.bbc.co.uk, www.fastcompany.com and many others.
    However, I am disappointed that:
a] only the first ten new feed headlines are ever displayed and even then, from just the one selected news feed source; and
b] even though I have defined a number of news feeds in the preferences dialog box, there seems to be no way of prompting RSS Visualizer to move on and display headlines from the next site defined in the preferences dialog box.
Does anyone have a workaround for this?
    Thanks
    Jai
PS I have made a submission through the Mac OSX feedback page.
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Oh....my....gaddd....
Ok this is the only thing that seemed to work, including all sorts of cache, database checking, net connection checks, etc.
I had the desktop/screensaver pref screen open... nothing but squirly blue clouds which was the problem I was having....
Clicking any of the feeds did not bring the 'swinging rss' feed titles... as usual for my problem... clicked all over the preview window, nothing...
blah blah blah I moved the Start S.Saver slider from 9 min. start to 5 min. start and that seemed to get it going again!!!
I clicked back to Apple Hot News and nothing there, but almost all the other RSS feeds seem to work fine in both preview, test, and hot corner operation now...
I know the blue clouds was nice, but the Feeds add something to it... so i guess now I can use the Apple Hot News feed as a pretty cloud S.Saver background now... oh well

  • Will Apple ever fix the 12/31/200 date RSS Visualizer Screen Saver issue?

I had to reopen the discussion about the RSS Visualizer:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6474304
I realize Apple may think the rest of the world (ex. CNN, Digg, etc..) needs to change their RSS feeds, but why not fix the RSS screensaver so that it doesn't default to December 31, 2000 and show only 4 news stories for most feeds? Even most of Apples RSS feeds don't comply. And this is by design?

Better is to send bug reports and enhancement requests to Apple via its Bug Reporter system. To do the latter, join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure over submitting feedback is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • RSS Visualizer only showing 4 articles

There is an old archived question (#10318621) concerning this topic. The resolution involves Quartz Composer.
I used the RSS Visualizer for years on 10.4 Tiger and it showed 10 items from the RSS feed. Was this changed in the more recent versions of OS X? Do I understand correctly that it is now hard-coded and the only way to change it is to modify the code with Quartz Composer?
If that's the solution, I'll give it a shot, but I wanted to check before mucking with the code. And I'm curious how this occurred... was it just a design change by some coder at Apple?
    Thanks all.

Yep, me too. Just 4 articles on the RSS screensaver. Not very interesting. Tried looking in the APPALLING Apple help for an answer. Apple Help is the worst I've ever seen on any OS. It used to be so good!

  • RSS Visualizer - always shows 12/31/00, only 4 articles

Are there any new preference options for the RSS Visualizer in the Leopard screen saver? It always shows "December 31, 2000" for the date, only 4 articles (when it used to show 10 in OS 10.4), and it seems to show the headlines in the center of the screen and then again at the bottom of the screen.
    Is this a Leopard bug?

I am having a similar problem. My date shows correctly (though I have my date/time set to German) but it will only show me the first four articles from my feed (BBC News front page). Under Tiger of course it was 10. Alignment is also off.
Is this broken for everyone? Too bad, I might not use this anymore.

  • RSS Visualizer Screensaver shows 1 jan 2001 date!

GDay all - Ive searched the other subjects here at Apple Disscussions and a few users are having the same problem as me. Since updating to Leopard, the wrong date now is displayed in the RSS Visualizer Screensaver. Even with the new 10.5.2 update, its still incorrect
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers

  • RSS Visualizer no longer shows 'Press the _ key' below headline

My RSS Visualizer screen saver no longer displays 'Press the 1 key...', 'Press the 2 key...' etc below each headline like it used to. It's simply missing, but everything else works fine.
I actually use that feature to read the NY Times headlines, so I'd like to get it back. I searched for other people with the problem and found nothing. Any ideas?

Hello, I'm also on 10.7.4 and have the same problems, which started when I updated to Safari 6.0 (7536.25). I tried the "com.apple.screensaver.plist" dump, but mine was in the library/preferences folder, and it still didn't help. Also, I noticed that when I go into OPTIONS from the SYSPREFS/Desktop & Screen Saver, for the RSS FEED, there's only the Apple Hot News; CNN, NYT, Bloomberg, etc, have disappeared.
Also, and I'm not sure if this is related, my delete button, which I used to use to navigate backwards in Safari, no longer works...(?)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • RSS Visualizer headlines too long...

    Hi!
I run the RSS visualizer as my screensaver and I like the appearance of it. But sadly, the headlines are too long: as they are shown aligned to a place in the right part of the screen, they extend to a point way off the right edge of the monitor. So they are cut off and can't be read.
Is there a way to fix this. Possibly have it aligned to a different horizontal position?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Rss visualizer screensaver for mountain lion, rss visualizer for mountain lion

I got Mountain Lion but now I miss my rss visualizer screensaver how can I get this back?

    Yeah!
That s-saver is too nice and was my favorite since OSX Tiger several years.
Why? Why it was too necessary to remove it??? Who does it  bother to???
I was using it much more frequently then most of all new 200+ features of new OSX.
I don't understand whole this. Apple, you're wrong about it, you are wrong.

  • RSS Visualizer screensaver has lost feed

I set my RSS screensaver to BBC news front page but one day it had changed to apple news for some reason. I went to change it back but BBC front page had gone from the settings list. So I called up this page: http://newsrss.bbc.co.uk/rss/newsonlineuk_edition/frontpage/rss.xml and I cant work out how to get it into the list on the screensaver settings. Some pages i've googled have said to add the page to safari bookmarks and it will automatically add it to the list but it doesn't. Others say there should be a blue icon in the safari url bar but there isn't; just an orange one. I've got the safari plugin 'saft' installed so don't know if this could be messing things up. Is there another way to get an rss url into the screensaver settings list, like a doc within the OS that i can manually paste the url into? thanks, dren.

I upgraded to leopard and there is an option to copy and paste the rss link directly in the screen saver options. Unfortunately I have had to revert to tiger again and after installing the OS from scratch, BBC news has vanished again within the first day of using it. Weird

  • RSS Feeds stuck - Can't delete From Visualizer

  • Rss Screensaver OpenGL error in Console

I'm seeing this error in the console:
    2006-10-14 18:31:22.995 System Preferences[5520] * <QCGLCIImage = 0x165FBE50 | type = CIImage | dimensions = 512x512 | buffer = 0x0000-0x0000 | target = GLTEXTURE2D | ID = 2>: OpenGL error 0x0502 (invalid operation) during upload
It gets logged every time the RSS screensaver loads or I select it in system prefs. Searching here and google doesn't seem to help much.
    It's 10.4.8 on a 1.8Ghz Intel Mac Mini and I havn't installed any 3rd party screensavers.
The only thing I've noticed -since the screensaver works fine- is that the number after QCGLCIImage changes slightly.
Does anyone have any ideas? My console.log is filling up with this two times for every time the screensaver starts.
Too many to list   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    1. Is the problem occurring with Apple's RSS Visualizer screen saver, or a third-party RSS screen saver?
If the problem occurs with a third-party RSS feed screen saver, check for updates to it or report the problem to the developer. Some third-party screen savers written for PPC-based Macs do not work on Intel-based Macs.
    2. It's possible there are corrupted preferences afoot.1. Quit (Command-Q) System Preferences if it is open.
    2. Trash the following two files in your Home > Library > Preferences folder:
    • com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    • com.apple.desktop.plist
    3. Trash the following files in your Home > Library > Preferences > ByHost folder:
    (a) com.apple.systempreferences.xxx.plist
    (b) com.apple.screensaver.xxx.plist
    (c) com.apple.screensaver.screensaver_name.xxx.plist
where• xxx is an alphanumeric string, and
    • screensaver_name is the name of a screen saver you have used.Whether preferences files of the type shown in (c) exist depends upon the screen saver and if you have changed its options, if any.
    4. Open your Home > Library > Caches folder, then trash the following two files therein:
    • com.apple.preferencepanes.cache
    • com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindexcache
    5. Empty the Trash.
    6. Launch System Preferences and see if all is well. If so, reset Desktop & Screen Saver preferences accordingly.Good luck!
