RSTP/MSTP compatibility to Cisco REP (Resilience Ethernet Protocol)

hi,
need help to find a official document about RSTP/MSTP compatibility to Cisco's REP. I actually found a document but only STP was mentioned. Please refer to the link below.

Hello Shawn,
Apologies using my mobile and for some reason I must have deleted my post
Never implemented rep but after reviewing cco it seems its not compatible with stp -so in order to implement this - stp cannot be run on an rep

  • REP - Resilient Ethernet Protocol

    Hello everyone!
We're testing a new technology called REP (Resilient Ethernet Protocol - Cisco Proprietary) and the document about it that I've found is a little bit confusing.
We're about to do some tests with one router Cisco 7600 and 8 Cisco ME 3400G switches to close one ring and check the convergence response time and other things. One of them is VLAN Load Balancing. On the paper that I've found, it doesn't explain very well and I have some doubts about it.
How can we do VLAN Load Balancing just like we do on MSTP? Can anyone help?
    Thanks in advance.

  • REP MSTP Compatibility mode on Cisco 4500 ????

    Hi all.
I having issue when deploy REP bethween Cisco 4500 Sup 7E/6LE with ASR 9000.
Follow the guide http://www.2mul.com/en/US/docs/routers/asr9000/software/asr9k_r4.0/lxvpn/configuration/guide/lesc40book.pdf , page 319 then ASR 9000 work at REP Access Gateway is supported when the access device (cisco 4500) interfaces that connect to the gateway devices are configured with REP MSTP Compatibility mode.
How to config REP MSTP Compatibility mode on interface of Cisco 4500 ??????????
How to config REP Access Gateway on ASR 9000 ???????????
    Please help!
    Thanks.

    Tran,
you can configure REP-AG on the A9k as follows:
    spanning-tree repag
    int g0/0/0/0.1
    int g0/0/0/0.1 l2trans
    encap untagged
Note that REP-AG is not full rep, we only trigger on the TCN from the rep ring and invoke a mac flush then.
Because the 9k needs to be at the head of the ring you need to configure the following on your peer:
    rep edge no-neighbor
and the compatibility mode is done via:
    rep stcn stp
Finally, if the 2 endpoints of the rep ring are on the same device, you may want to put the encap untagged EFP's into an XCON or BD, if the 9k's are remote a PW to make sure that you can transport the TCN's from one ring point to the other if need be in specific design scenarios.

  • Cisco 7600 Series Ethernet Services cards types & queue values

    Hello,
There is different types for the Cisco 7600 Series Ethernet Services cards.
( More expensive cards with high queue values and less expensive cards with
    low queue values.)
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/routers/ps368/data_sheet_c78-549419.html

    • 128,000 ingress queues
    • 256,000 egress queues
ES Plus XT 20G line cards
    *• 64,000 ingress queues*
    • 128,000 egress queues
    Hierarchical QoS (H-QoS)

*Supporting up to 16 level 4 queues per physical port*
    Hierarchical QoS (H-QoS)
Low queue cards have got only 4 queues per physical port. High queue cards
have got minimum 64.000 queue. This is very huge difference.  In what kind
of scenario do we have to use the High queue cards ? Could you give some
    examples please ?  Kind Regards.
    Burak

    HI Burak,
Each time you configure a class with bandwidth allocation or shaping,.. a queue will be used so if you use such card to provide QoS for a lot of subscribers sharing the same interface, you will need a lot of them !!

  • Rumors about Cisco removed H.323 protocol

I have read the rumors that when Cisco bought Linksys, Cisco removed H.323 protocol on all routers because "it wasn't necessary to have that protocol."  Some people who owns old (pre-Cisco) Linksys have H.323 protocol and they swear that they work just fine with their videophone.
    Is that true?
I have a videophone and it requires H.323 protocol.  I am not sure how to explain excatly what is H.323 protocol, but all I know that my videophone requires it.  Without H.323 protocol, I won't be able to use the videophone.
I have a WRT54G (version 6) router.  How do I know if it has a H.323?  I don't think my router has it because it was built under Cisco.  I'd like to hook my videophone to WRT54G router (via ethernet cable, not wireless).
I'd appericate your suggestions & advice.  Thanks!

ok that's correct. From your handset, go to settings, and i think from device configuration you can see it normally lists Active CM1, backup CM and SRST in the phone config (i dont have a phone or a console to tell you exactly where, but it should be some where in the phone settings you can browse).
If its not there, make sure for the device you are testing, it has the SRST reference there and is not disabled and device is in the correct device pool.
You can also try removing the config from router (copy the config onto a notepad)
    no call-manager-fallback
    and then paste it back.
You can test by either having a ACL or a null route to your voice servers. All servers have to be unreachable before the phones register to gateway.
During testing try taking some debugs : debug ephone keepalive/register

  • Resilient Ethernet Protocol support

    Hi,
Does anyone knows if the Cisco 6500 Switch supports the resilient ethernet protocol?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ecka

Right now it is supported only on metro boxes and 4k switches..It will be supported on 3k in ints next major release..I think similar plans are there for 6k also

  • Button hangup with modbus + and modbus ethernet protocol using lookout 6.0.2

I have lookout 6.0.2 HMI software connected to a network of modicon 984 compact PLC's using modbus + protocol, Control techniques Uni-Drives using modbus ethernet protocol, and Direct logic plc's using their ECOM protocol. I have all of the control objects built in the client process and all of the drivers are in the server process. I use a static symbolic link to connect all of the objects to the drivers in the server. My problem is every once in a while, one of the buttons will hang up and hold true until the button is pressed again.  I also noticed this only happens with objects that have a modbus + or modbus ethernet protocol. I've never experienced this problem with objects connected to direct logic plc's. I saw a posting related to this a while back but saw no solution to the problem.  Can anyone help?
    Haj

I have never met this problem before. I tried for a while but failed to reproduce. I think it relates to how the button works. Lookout pushbutton sends out true value when you press it, not like the button of windows which takes effect when released. Could you try the CWButton, instead of pushbutton. Maybe it makes a difference.

  • National Instruments Ethernet protocol

    Hello,
I am developing a software package that is using the NI Field Point Ethernet device. It is a large hardware device and I have been asked to develop a simulator. In order to do this, I need to simulate the Field point devices. Does anyone know if the Ethernet protocol is simply the Optomux protocol wrapped in a UDP/IP message, or is it something else? Is the protocol documented somewhere? I have searched, but have not been able to find a document.
    Thank you,
    Mark

    Hi,
We use OPC to communicate with our hardware and this allows us to use an OPC simulator allowing us to change "input signals" in real time via a windows application running on the PC. The main application does not ned to be re-compiled or anything. It does not know or care where the values are coming from.
    Hope  this helps!

  • MGBSX1 compatibility with Cisco switches

Specifically, is the MGBSX1 (Gigabit SX Mini-GBIC SFP Transceiver) compatible with WS-C2960G-24TC-L???

I think WS-C2960G-24TC-LMGBSX1 is not compatible with MGBSX1.

I notice in the user manual for the Cisco 435HDC it illustrates using both a coax and ethernet input.  The coax obviously works; I was wondering if the ethernet input can be used off a network?

  • Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Express Compatibility with Cisco Unified Communications Manager Release 8.X

I have a customer that would like to upgrade CUCM to either 7.1 or 8.0 and has Meeting Place Express.
In trying to establish compatability I found this link: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.html#wp56211 which shows compatabilty up to CUCM 7.0.
If CUCM 7.0 is in fact the highest version supported with MPE 2.1(1.2), that would mean that they would loose their conferencing server.
Can anyone confirm if there will be MPE support for CUCM 7.1 or 8?
    Thank you.

7.1 is still supported, however 8.X was never tested with MPE as it was already going to be replaced with MP.
Since the BU never tested it, it falls under not supported, MP8 is supported with CUCM 8.
But, since it uses a standard H323 trunk it should work fine.

  • Cisco 3750x no ethernet connection

    Hi,
I seems to have a weird problem whereby clients are unable to get an ethernet connection (Port no LED lit/not connected) when using mac.  Sometimes there is connection after multiple insert/disconnect using the same cable to the Mac client. This has also be tested with a direct connection between the client and switch (without going thru the backbone cabling). If I was to try using Windows client, there does not seems to have such issue.
Further observation; from the switch; if a shut and no shut was performed on the port connected to the client, it would cause the connection to be "UP". Not too sure if anyone may have seen similar issues of unable to get connection "UP"? The firmware on the switch is running 15.2(1)E2.
    Any suggestion is appreciated.

You've got a 3750X?  Good.  This means you can test the cable run using TDR.

  • Wireless Cards compatability with Cisco ACU

We have Lucent Orinoco PCMCIA cards in our laptops and have just purchesed some Aironet 350's, they work ok with the Orinoco drivers and client manager software, but i can't get the Cisco client ACU software to recognise the cards as i want to get the Cisco managment software working. Will the Cisco ACU software only work with Cisco cards?

Yes, Cisco ACU is for Cisco cards only.
