RTF text with background colour - formatting lost in editable RTF export

Hi
I have designed a report in CR2008 using XSD datasource.
I have a field which returns a RTF text. The text comes out correctly when I run the report.
Scenario:
1.Background colour (eg Yellow) has been applied to the field
2.RTF text contains paragraph breaks
Result
The background appears for each paragraph and where there a para break, there is white space. In other words, I want the background colour to appear for the entire field. Right now, it appears odd because I have white spaces between each paragraph with the background colour for each paragraph
Example:
Text is as below (with RTF coding)
In a bad mood? Don't worry   according to research, it's good for you.
An Australian psychology expert who has been studying emotions has found being grumpy makes us think more clearly.
In contrast to those annoying happy types, miserable people are better at decision making and less gullible, his experiments showed.
While cheerfulness fosters creativity, gloominess breeds attentiveness and careful thinking, Professor Joe Forgas told Australian Science Magazine.
My export type is Editable RTF. The background colour is maintained when you choose Word for Windows option or PDF (but this is not what I want to use in the report). Can the background be maintained for Editable RTF? Is there a work around for this problem?
Thanks

  • How cna I change the text and background colours in iTunes?

    Can anyone tell me how I can change the text and background colours in iTunes? I am a visually impared user and my main requirement on a PC is to change the colour schemem to white text on a black background. Most software adopts the settings of your colour scheme but iTunes goes it's own and has everything on white backgrounds. I cannot read from white backgrounds (dazzle - that sort of thing). I have never used iTunes for this reason. I have always been a devotee of by far the best media player out there Musicmatch Jukebox, who allow you to edit skins in every detail. However, recently Musicmatch was taken over and users were forced to migrate to the ridiculously poor Yahoo Music Jukebox. A massive downgrade in so many ways.
    I want to use iTunes but will not be able to if I cannot sort this issue out. I downloaded 7.5 before discovering that if you want to use Multi Plugin for skins you need to go back to iTunes 7.02. I've done that, but the skins available are completely pointless to my eyes. They don't change the colours of the main components, just the graphical bit at the top.
    What I need to do is change the background of the main browser windows so that they are black and the text is white (you know the track lists and tree views, etc). This must be a very simple case of just changing the codes somewhere, but I can't find where. I read somewhere that you need to hack into something call ResourceDB inside a file called iTunes.jar. There is no such file on my PC. Could that be a Mac thing?
    Please help someone if you can. I would like to become an iTunes user. There seems to be more music available than on Napster which I currently use.
    Thanks in advance
    Z

    In my opinion, it seems that Apple has decided to sacrifice usability so that iTunes would look more like a Mac application. You are probably already aware that using Windows' built-in high-contrast settings do not work in iTunes.
    I did some hacking at the resource file a while back, but I was unable to figure out how to change the color of the background. IIRC there was a resource whose description indicated it would change the background color, but when I changed the resource, nothing happened.
    I was, however, able to figure out how to make the "large" font much larger (any size you want, I suppose). Will that help? See
    http://home.comcast.net/~teridon73/ituneshacks/index.html
    You should provide feedback to Apple:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
    I don't think it is too harsh to call it "shameful" that Apple has chosen this design path. Where I work, we are required to make ALL applications (or any computer interface, such as a website) section 508 compliant. Of course, I'm being a bit of a hypocrite, because I've made no effort to make my website compliant. If you have trouble reading it, please let me know.

  • Marking words with background colour, the colour disappears when making pdf. How to do?

    Hi, I am working with a project that needs to highlight certain word or phrases with different colours. I use the background colour option to do this, but when making a pdf, the colour disappears. How do I get this to work? FM10 unstructured.
    JW

    Unfortunately, this doesn't work in FM10 (or 11) using the CMYK settings - you have to use RGB and convert the colours either in the PDF (with tools like Enfocus' PitstopPro) or during the postscript stage with a tool like PubliPDF (see: Grafikhuset Publi PDF for GPL licensed freebie version; usage details and other info is available at: Welcome to Grafikhuset Publi PDF ).
    You could also try using the CMYK joboptions setting in the RGB mode to see if you get an acceptable conversion (however be aware that any graphics and images in the documents may be affected). You should also set GetLibraryColorRGBFromCMYK=None to prevent FM from trying to do unnecessary colour conversions.
    The background colour feature works correctly in the CMYK mode starting only with FM12.

  • Crystal Reports 10 - Export to TEXT with Delimited Space Format

    Hello,
    I am new to Crystal reports, sorry if this is a really basic question.  I am trying to create a report which I can export to a TXT file.  The TXT file format will be delimted space (size 500 characters).  I would like to know how I can use Crystal reports to fix the size of the fields.
    For example field 1 is 22 characters, field 2 starts directly after field 1 and is 9 characters (9 spaces), field 3 is then 7 characters so an example of the output I need is:
    1111111111111111111111         2222222
    I will need to use a mixture of TEXT fields and database fields to create the report.  Thefore is it possible to specify the length of a text file i.e. TEXT1 = 22?
    I am new to Crystal so I hope there is a simple solution without the use of coding
    Thanks,
    Brett

    You will have to force the fields to the length that you are looking for, as Crystal treats strings as variable length strings.  So to force a character field to 20 characters, you'd do something like:
    left({db.charfield} + ReplicateString(" ", 20), 20)
    For a number, you could use either
    ToText({db.numfield}, "0000000000")
    or
    right(ReplicateString(" ", 10) + ToText({db.numfield}, "0"), 10)
    (for a 10 digit integer; change the format string in ToText for other numeric data types)
    I suggest that it may be clearer and more accurate to create one formula field with the entire line formatted as needed, then just display that one field on the report.
    HTH,
    Carl

  • How can I keep my text format after pasting a text with a different format?

    No matter when and where I start to write some text (whether it is a SImpleText, E-Mails, or anyother application's doc), if I have to cut and paste a text from a different source that is formatted differently than my original text (ie. the one I am already using ), once I have pasted the differently formatted text in my doc, the typeset changes while it continues to type with the same formatt used in the text I just pasted.
    How can I continue typing with the same text formatt used before pasting the new text, after pasting the new text, without having to change size, font style etc. Is there a short cut?
    What I have been doing to avoid this problem is: I usually type my entire text content (whether it is an E-Mail, or other doc) then, once I am done typing, I paste the text that was cut from a differently formatted document, so that my text remains with the same formatt in its integrity, while the pasted text stands out differently, but it is a bit complex doing that , because I not only have to remember to paste the other text when I am done typing (I run the risk of forgetting to paste the text I need to insert--which has happened already) or I keep struggling with my formatt change after the pasting of the new text, so my document text starts looking like the same text as the one which was just pasted.
    Thanks for your time reading this!

    (1) First, let's make sure we're talking about the same thing. By "SImpleText, E-Mails" you mean TextEdit and Mail, right?
    (2) Some apps (TextEdit, Mail) use the text engine provided by Mac OS X. By and large, these apps will behave in a similar manner. Others (eg, MS Word) use their own text engine, and their behaviour can be quite different. For such an app you need to consult its manual.
    (3) In TextEdit, if you want the pasted text to adopt the current style, then use kurt188's tip.
    (4) However, if you may want the pasted text to retain its own attributes, while you continue to type in the previous style. I don't know of any shortcut or command that will achieve this. However, you can try to work around it.
    (4.1) TextEdit has the Copy Style (⌘⌥C) and Paste Style (⌘⌥V) commands. If you haven't yet used it, ⌘⌥V will insert the default style. So type, paste, ⌘⌥V, then continue typing. If you have used, it will insert whatever style was copied. You can, type, ⌘V, click somewhere before the pasted text, ⌘⌥C, click after the pasted text, ⌘⌥V, and continue typing.
    (4.2) Alternatively, type your text. Then type one more character, eg, "x". Then ←, ⌘V, ⇧→, and start typing. The new text should adopt "x"'s format. (This should work in Mail, too. I don't know, because IMHO e-mail should always be plain text.)

  • Using Illustrator CS4 trying to create text with background showing thru in random areas

    how can I get this look in Illustrator?
    this is a red letter on a blue background which shows thru

    ween,
    If you have an image or whatever in grayscale with the desired pattern where full black or white corresponds to the background fully showing through the letters, you may:
    1) Create the blue background at the bottom;
    2) Create the red letters in the middle;
    3) Place the grayscale image/whatever at the top;
    4) Select 2) and 3) and in the Transparency palette flyout tick Make Opacity Mask with Clip ticked and Invert mask ticked or unticked, depending on the choice of colour (you can see which makes it right).

    The new vision system is an improvement BUT for vision inpaired viewers white text on a pall gray background is almost unreadable.
    HELP
    How do I change this?

    I'm afraid you can't.
    I am vision impaired and thought at first they had lost their collective marbles.
    They have in so far as that first page is awful and does need altered however the new highlighting system as you scroll through is much more readable that before.
    We have gained some advantage in the change but in that it is more readable in parts and worse in others.
    Hopefully it will be corrected in the future as their has been a lot of feedback on this issue.
    It might be worthwhile taing your complaint to the more official level and letting the MODS know as they can pass it on to the Vision Team.

  • Conditional colour formatting lost after pivoting

    Hi All,
    Scenario is, I m reporting on essbase cube, and i have a report with 2 dim Account,TimePeriod and 2 fact columns Actual and ops.
    I have certain accounts which need to be highligted so i do it through conditional formatting in Accounts column. Also the corresponding measures also need to be highlighted which i have done thru conditional fomatting in criteria tab for that measures.
    Now the issue is the Accounts and measures get highlighted in table view but when i do pivot view it just highlights account column only and not the corresponding measures.
    Any input or comments is highly appreciated
    With Regards,
    Pradeesh

    Hi,
    Thanks Stijin and David for your reply. i was out for christmas holidays so cudn't reply. As you have mentioned my problem is the same i.e. 'cross-column conditional formatting'. But the columns that i need to highlight would be in integer format and not in char.
    I wud explain my scenario better. i have a accounts column and other measure columns as shown below. The accounts column is an union of members from different level of different hirarchy of a cube.
    2009/Q3 2009/Q3 2009/Q3 2009/Q3 2009/Q3
    'Accounts' 'Actual' 'Actual%' 'Ops' 'Ops%' 'Act vs Ops'
    A 29 20 39 51 16
    B 100 14 15 66 6
    C 55 44 84 87 4
    D 14 45 25 14 7
    I want the accounts column with entire rows of B and C to be highlighted, that means i want the value 'B 100 14 15 66 6' and 'C 55 44 84 87 4' to be highlighted.
    With regards

  • EXIF data lost when edited and exported to Picasa web

    I use iPhoto 6. If a geotagged photo is scaled and exported to Picasa web, then the EXIF data are preserved and recognized by Picasa web. But if the same photo is edited (crop, contrast...) and then exported to Picasa web, then the EXIF data don't appear. I've tried the export operation manually and through the plugin, but it always happens the same. How to avoid this? Does it happen too with iPhoto 8? Thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes and no. With iPhoto 8 you can export with an option to include the keywords, titles and comments. But I don't know if geotags are included. Ask in the iPhoto 8 forum as I know geotags have been discussed there. Do a search in that forum for "geotags" or similar.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Issue Using C# to Get RTF Text From Clipboard to Outlook With Formatting and Without Encoding Tags

    I have created a little application that gathers data from various text boxes and then combines the data into a formatted richTextBox.  A person using the tool asked if I could then add a button that would allow that text (with formatting) to be copied
    and pasted into an Outlook Email.  When I do this, I can get the text into an email, but I either strip out the formatting or I get all the RTF encoding tags to come along with it.
    I have tested to see that the copy of the data from the richTextBox has indeed made it to the clipboard correctly.  This has been verified by the fact that I can manually press "ctrl" + "v" and I can past the text with proper
    formatting into the mail body.
    I do know that I can brute force things by trying to manually wrap HTML tags around my textBox fields and then pipe that into an HTMLBody property.  In fact I can get a lot of things to work with the HTMLBody property, but while it is nice that will
    work, I feel that I must be missing something really simple while trying to work with RTF.
    I currently am pasting (using the Clipboard.GetText(TestDataFormat.RTF)) the RTF data into the Body property of the mail item.  This is bringing in all the RTF encoding tags.  I have tried to paste this directly into the RTFBody of the mail item,
    yet an execption gets thrown when executed.  Oddly, though, if I change RTFBody to HTMLBody, I do not get the exception, but I still have the RTF encoding tags in it.  Though if I feed the HTMLBody property straight, HTML text with the encoding tags,
    it will render properly.
    This has me confused then why if I feed HTMLBody HTML text with the encoding tags that it will render, but if I try and do the same for RTFBody and feed it RTF text with encoding tags it still throws an exception.  Any help in the matter would be greatly
    appreciated.  I have included the code snippet below for sending the richTextBox information to the clipboard and then attempting to retrieve it and paste it into an Outlook email.
    Thanks for the help.
    Some pertinent information:
    Blend for Visual Studio 2015 CTP6 (I switched from VS2012 as intellisense was added to Blend in 2015)
    Because of this Systems.Windows.Forms is not in use
    private void buttonEmail_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    //Copy richTextBox information to Clipboard
    Clipboard.Clear();
    richTextBox.SelectAll();
    richTextBox.Copy();
    //Get current date to add to email subject line
    DateTime myNewDate = new DateTime();
    myNewDate = DateTime.Now;
    //Create Email
    Outlook.Application myNewApplication = new Outlook.Application();
    Outlook.MailItem myNewMailIoI = myNewApplication.CreateItem(Outlook.OlItemType.olMailItem) as Outlook.MailItem;
    myNewMailIoI.To = " "; //An attempt to ensure that the focus moves down to the body field
    myNewMailIoI.Subject = "IoI - " + myNewDate.Date.ToString("d");
    myNewMailIoI.BodyFormat = Outlook.OlBodyFormat.olFormatRichText;
    //Pasting data into body of email
    myNewMailIoI.Body = Clipboard.GetText(TextDataFormat.Rtf); //This will past the text with encoding tags into email
    //If this section is uncommented, it will add a properly formatted HTML text to the email
    //myNewMailIoI.BodyFormat = Outlook.OlBodyFormat.olFormatHTML;
    //myNewMailIoI.HTMLBody = "<p>This stinks!!!</p>" + "<p style='color: green; font-size:10pt; font-family:arial'>different font and color</p>";
    myNewMailIoI.Display(); //Allow for window to be minimized
    myNewMailIoI.Display(true);

    Ok, I found the solution.  Part of the issue was caused by the confusion of the HTML body property acting as a text encoder for HTML text when a string is passed in vs the RTF Body property needing to have a plain text file taken and encoded into a
    byte stream.  Even though the RTF text is in readable text (albeit with the RTF Encoding Tags) it needs to be reencoded into a series of bytes.
    This is where I failed to understand the previous answers.  I knew that RTF Body needed to have a array of bytes, and the previous answers seemed to indicate that the data in the clipboard was already in this byte format (this may have just been my
    misunderstanding) and that I needed to somehow take this byte array and do something with it.  My misunderstanding was that all the methods for getting values from the clipboard returned strings and not bytes.
    after some digging last night and with the few hints that were offered before, I came across a post on CodeProject (apparently I cannot post links, so I will try and include this so that you can find the postcodeproject(DOTCOM)/Questions/766917/How-to-convert-richtextbox-output-into-bytearray).
    This showed that I needed to take the raw, RTF text with its RTF encoding tags from the clipboard and and encode it to a byte array and then pass this into the RTF Body property.  Included below is the final code such that I hope that it helps some other
    person as there seem to be a lot of searches for this on the web, but not a lot of direct answers.
    using System.Text;
    using Outlook = Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook;
    private void buttonEmail_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e)
    //Copy richTextBox information to Clipboard
    Clipboard.Clear();
    richTextBox.SelectAll();
    richTextBox.Copy();
    //Get current date to add to email subject line
    DateTime myNewDate = new DateTime();
    myNewDate = DateTime.Now;
    //Create Email
    Outlook.Application myNewApplication = new Outlook.Application();
    Outlook.MailItem myNewMailIoI = myNewApplication.CreateItem(Outlook.OlItemType.olMailItem) as Outlook.MailItem;
    //Add Subject
    myNewMailIoI.Subject = "IoI - " + myNewDate.Date.ToString("d");
    //Set Body Format to RTF
    myNewMailIoI.BodyFormat = Outlook.OlBodyFormat.olFormatRichText;
    //Converting RAW RTF data from string to bytes. THIS IS THE FIX THAT WAS NEEDED TO MAKE IT WORK
    string myNewText = Clipboard.GetText(TextDataFormat.Rtf);
    byte[] myNewRtfBytes = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(myNewText); //This line cost me way too many hours of lost sleep!!!
    //Inserting RTF bytes into RTFBody property
    myNewMailIoI.RTFBody = myNewRtfBytes;
    myNewMailIoI.Display(); //Displays the newlycreated email
    //If this section is uncommented, it will add a properly formatted HTML text to the email
    //myNewMailIoI.BodyFormat = Outlook.OlBodyFormat.olFormatHTML;
    //myNewMailIoI.HTMLBody = "<p>This works for the HTMLbody property!!!</p>" + "<p style='color: green; font-size:10pt; font-family:arial'>this renders properly</p>";

    Hello gillad,
    I am afraid only indicators are the bold font or text colour...
    Having said that, just as I was writting my response, the following idea came to me:
    Convert the pdf into word
    Click on text of interest (text with distinct format)
    Use the feature "select all text with similar formating (no data)" under "editing" within the "home" ribbon
    Having said that, hopefully a tool set/ action can be developed one day...
