RTMP Multicast from VBrick 9000 series encoder

Hello,
I'm trying to get RTMP multicast working from my VBrick 9000 encoder to my network using the Adobe Media Server (v5.0.3). I've used the Multicast Configurator tool to generate the published stream name, and have plugged that into the VBrick encoder. I took the generated manifest file, and placed it in the multicast player folder, but am not able to view the video.
I've confirmed that sending a unicast feed up to the AMS server from the VBrick works without a hitch. The logs on the AMS indicate that it is receiving something from the VBrick, and is starting the multicast feed (with a NetStream.Publish.Start message, and others indicating the multicast IP and port I've specified). The multicast player only shows "Waiting for Video," and none of my network gear indicates any multicast traffic is actually occurring.
Just for fun, I plugged in the same configuration to FMLE, and the multicast feed starts up right away without any issue and is viewable in the multicast player.
Was wondering if anyone else has had any experience configuring the VBrick units with Adobe Media Server, specifically for multicast.

Cannot get AMS5 to multicast a stream from a Vbrick 9000 encoder

I have a vbrick 9000 series encoder transmitting an RTMP stream to Adobe Media Server 5's multicast service. It appears that AMS5 starts the multicast but then stops the multicast. The AMS tool Multicastplayer just says "Waiting for Video..."
How do I configure the 9000 encoder and the AMS5 to allow multicast to work?

I think multicast is enabled properly.
"ip pim sparse" is enabled on the router with IGMP at layer 2.
On the router I see *,G and S,G entires in the multicast routing table pointing toward the AMS5 server's vlan.
From the windows server with AMS5 on it I can ping the multicast groups of various video speakers.
From the windows server with AMS5 on it I can run an application called "VBDirectory" that uses multicast to discover all vbrick devices.

very well. the mod 160 has 4 NPU's, 2 per bay. So if you have a 4x10 MPA to serve a satellite, you effectively have a single NPU per 20 1Gigs from the satellite. The pps performance will be stellar. However it might be price technically more ideal to connect satellite with a 36x10. Since the MOD-x has native MPA's with 1G also.

depends on the type we had avaialble at time of production, you will see different sizes and disks on the RSP2. the rpm of the HD is not so much an issue as much as the buffered writing we used to do in XR. This is fixed up with XR43 where the disk writing performance is much better. the HD/SDD is used for logging storage only (and maybe your pictures) but other then that we're not that concerned with write perf of the HD.

Sorry for not responding more quickly. Unfortunately, I don't know of any reason why this .vss would not open in OmniGraffle since it was produced using the same techniques in our standard production process. The file is saved in Visio 2002 "or later" format for maximum compatibility with Visio. The Omni Group is responsible for the conversion from Visio to OmniGraffle formats so they would be the ones to question about this. Our mission is to support Visio users and our operations are Windows based so we do not test the stencils on Macs although we do our best to produce files that can be used in OmniGraffle.

oh that is somewhat vague, but let me try...
in order to enable snmp access to an interface in a vrf you need to enable MPP (management plane protection) in that vrf.
Something like this:
control-plane
management-plane
inband
interface Loopback100
allow all
if you have this and it doesn't work, a config snippet and some debugs (like debug snmp packet) will help to define what to do next.

Post-processing f4v from FMLE without re-encoding?

I've been looking for a way to post process (simple cut & splice) f4v file from FMLE without re-encoding the file. There are some tools that can make this happen, but its output only works with Flash Player/VLC/etc., but cannot be played on the iPhone.
Is there a tool that can make this happen? Or using tools like Adobe Premier that requires re-encoding is the only way to go?

Just so I'm clear on this, you want to be able to play the files in, for example, iPhone but don't want to re-encode?
If that's it, you probably have to re-encode. Depending on the player you want to play it in though.
iPhone doesn't play the flash container formats but it might (I don't have an iPhone so I can't test this but...) be possible to flatten the file with the f4vpp tool and then simply change the file extension to .mp4. Do tell me if that works.

Failed to transfer SMS and Memopad from Bold 9000 to Z10 by BBLink

I have just upgraded to Z10 from Bold 9000. I used BBLink (downloaded from BB site) to transfer data from old Bold 9000 to Z10.
The problem is all data were transfered sucessfully except 4500 SMS and 10 Memopad.
- SMS: no entried in text message view
- memopad: in the Remember app, I only found impoarted Tasks under Unfiled Entries, no memopad entries found.
I tried many times, tried to restart the Z10 but useless.
- Bold 9000: OS 5.x
- Z10: STL100-3, version 10.2.1.2102
Any help are appreciated because the SMS and memppad are very important data to me.

If it is Windows Media Encoder 9, please try this hotfix:

Cannot change settings from AAC to MP3 encoder although able to do so on another computer

I am frustrated as I am able to change my settings on ITunes 10 on my desktop computer, but when I downloaded ITunes10 on my notebook, I was not able to change the same settings from AAC to MP3 encoder although I clicked ok. It keeps reverting to AAC, and I am not able to rightclick my music file, as I can do on my desktop, to create a smaller mp3....
I also noticed that other checkmarks, i.e. checking "podcast" under general preferences under source revert back to unchecked when I get out.
What to do?

Live streaminng not working from Adobe 3.1 Encoder to iOS devices

We are trying to live stream from Adobe 3.1 encoder(on PC ) to live stream on IOS devices, by broadcasting the stream to Adobe Media Server 5 Professional.However though we succeeded in streaming live to PC, it is not working on IOS devices.Only when we uncheck the Audio option from Encoder, we are able to Live stream to IoS devices, which will be only the video without any audio.When we we have audio option checked as well, it works for PC, but for Iphones/Ipads it flickers once and then gives a error message " Cannot Decode".The current settings on encoder is as below
The current process is to use the default HDS links(as per the stream URL) for the PC, and the HLS links for IOS.Any guidance how to get the audio working here on IOS devices will be of great help.
Note:Online most of the places use AAC format for audio on encoder, is that the only one which can work for IOS devices?

Yes, AAC is the codec that iOS devices support

I'm testing multicast from my oes linux sp2 zdm7sp1
starting multicast session from the command line works ok
( /opt/novell/zenworks/preboot/bin/novell-zmgmcast -mcast SESSION1 ....)
but trying to start it from C1, going to the server object, multicast
session, add, specifying my filename, nothing happens on the client...
can't join the multicast session.....
troubleshooting steps ? bug ?

Incredibly poor performance from Premiere Pro + Media Encoder

This is, frankly embarrassing.
I was asked to put a series of still images into a video format to be emailed to a client. The video was to be used by the client for a presentation. I spent half a day trying to get acceptable results, some of which were completely unusable. I experimented with different formats and encoders during this time.
Perhaps it's worth stating, for those of you who might be sceptical, that I've been using Premiere for many years and generally know what I'm doing when it comes to these requests.
After seeing the poor results of my attempts, my colleague decided to try using Microsoft Movie Maker. Not only did he achieve the desired results in under 10 minutes but the filesize was substantially smaller and the quality substantially higher.
It puts the Adobe software to shame, especially considering the results below, from the media encoders log (Note the encoding time!):
- Preset Used: PAL Source to Download 1024kbps
- Video: 720x576, 25 [fps]
- Audio: 96 kbps, 48 kHz, stereo VBR
- Bitrate: Compressed, VBR, 2 Pass, Audiences:1, Avg 872.00 [kbps]
- Encoding Time: 00:24:25

I accept of course, that with so little information, you will assume operator error.
Hopefully though, you can also accept that the exercise itself was very simple; the import of a series of still images (all of different dimensions) for export in as high a quality and as small a filesize as possible.
Perhaps Premiere is 'too complex' for such a simple request and this allowed the simplicity of the Microsoft Movie Maker comes into its own. It has an 'import pictures' option in the menu that didn't require any re-sizing or optimisation. All in all, my collegue was able to peform the whole exercise in about the same time it took me to resize all the images to PAL dimensions and import them into Premiere.
Even with this aside, I would have expected far superiour results from the encoding presets in Adobe Media Encoder. In fact, MS provided a higher quality file at 4.81Mb in far less time.
I'm certainly no fan of Microsoft, but that just serves to make this situation all the more annoying.
