RU2 install fails for Service Manager 2012 R2

Rollup Update 2 for Service Manager 2012 R2 is crashing during install on my prod management server...it installed fine on my test server. It happens very quickly after I click "install", just after agreeing to the license terms.  I've ran
the .Net repair tool, but did not fix it. I've pasted the SCSMPatcherSetupWizard01.log file contents below, but the log seems to have just stopped abruptly.

More info:  This thread suggested that fully patching their server resolved their issue, but I can confirm my server was fully up to date with all critical, security, and updates for Server 2008 R2 SP1 through 04/2014.  I have .Net Framework
4 Client profile and Extended installed with their patches current.  I wonder if upgrading to .Net 4.5 would have prevent this?

I also found a this article that talks about deploying the .MSP without the Patchwizard.exe wrapper, so sounds like I should be good.
The *Patchwizard.exe file is just a wrapper, so if you have a tool like Configuration Manager you can use the .MSP file directly for deployment and skip deploying the executable. This is a fully supported scenario so if that better suites your needs
then feel free to deploy the update using this method instead.

  • Service Manager 2012R2 - Hotfix for Service Manager 2012 SP1 secondary Management server

Can the hotfix for the issue described here -
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/servicemanager/archive/2013/04/22/service-manager-2012-sp1-secondary-management-server-cannot-set-availability-on-a-health-service-that-doesn-t-exist.aspx
, be applied to a 2012R2 Service Manager environment?
My dilemma; In a Service Manager 2012 SP1 environment, I installed a secondary mgmt server, promoted it, then upgraded to R2. This R2 Primary mgmt server has the error described in the TechNet blog.
The reason this was done, the original primary mgmt server (2012 SP1) resided on the same server as the Portal. This original primary is still at 2012 SP1 with the System Center services disabled.
Again, can the hotfix for Service Manager 2012 SP1 secondary mgmt servers be applied to a Primary mgmt server (or environment, however the hotfix is run) server Service Manager 2012 R2?
    Thank you,

    Hi,
Hmm, you should probably log a case for this, but my first thought here would be to install a new SCSM 2012 R2 server and promote that one to the new Primary server, then remove the old ones.

  • Process Pack for IT GRC - No Knowledge Libraries for Service Manager 2012

Hi Folks, so I'm installing the Process Pack for IT GRC.  I'm noticing the Knowledge Importer isn't finding any libraries to populate the service.  Can I manually import these libraries into the system?  This was working before the release
of Microsoft Security Compliance Manager v3.0.  Thanks!

We finally resolved this by manually installing the libraries from the Security Compliance Manager:

  • Installed System Center Service Manager 2012 R2 and it crashes if I want to do any useful work with it.

    Hi,
I installed SM Authoring Tool 2012 R2 on my laptop allong with Visual Studio Shell 2008 SP1.
After the installation, I tried using the Authoring Tool and when I try editing a class created by SM Authoring Tool 2012 RTS (e.g. the first version) it crashes -- or an entirely *new* class, the tool crashes and reboots itself.
Any idea how to even diagnose the problem, or what the cause is?

the first thing would be to turn on the output window in the authoring tool, and see if there is anything interesting or useful in there before your crash. with the tool open, go to View, Output window. this shows a running log of actions the authoring
tool takes inside visual studio shell and the responses.

  • System Center Service Manager 2012 SP1 upgrade install error

I am trying to upgrade my SCSM 2012 front end app server to SP1 and am getting these failures in the log when it fails with the error "Service Manager is not in a valid state"
09:07:58:Could not find WCS portal web site in IIS metabase!

Can someone tell me how to get this rectified? The WCS portal is installed and running and has been for months. The DW is upgraded but I cannot get the SharePoint self service portal or the App server to upgrade due to this error.

    Hello
One question you have the website installed on the same
server on which you have the Server Management
    Server, so if you can
    not make your upgrade to
    SP1, this changed because
a prerequisite of System Center Service
Manager 2012 SP1 in which you can not have
    the server Mangement and
website on the same server they have to be
    separate.

  • Is there a way to trick MS Service Manager 2012 to use SQL Server 2014 when installing it?

I recently set up a virtual Lab on my laptop. I dont have much resources on my laptop and can only have around 5 servers. the problem is that i already set up SQL Server 2014 standalone and configured all of my services to use that server which works
fine. however when i try to install MS Service Manager 2012 it throws "SQL has to be either 2012 or 2008" error ..
is there a way for me to trick the Registry so Service Manager will install?
    Thank you

I don't know a trick to install SCSM 2012 on a SQL Server 2014. But maybe you can use a SQL Server 2012 for installation temporary and move the db after installation is done to your SQL Server 2014?
Moving the Service Manager and DW Databases
Might be worth a try. But it's definitely not recommended for a productive environment!

  • Options for integrating Tickets between Dynamics CRM 2011 and Service Manager 2012 ?

Any suggestions on the integration of Dynamics CRM 2011 and System Center Service Manager 2012 ?
I am looking for side-by-side integration like this:
    1. A ticket in CRM is entered I want it to be entered in Service Manager.
    2. Once a ticket is updated in SM we'd like that reflected in CRM.
    3. If ticket is updated in CRM should be reflected in SM.
[Tickets originating in SM moved to CRM is not a requirement.]
Please suggest some guidance around this topic :)
    -Nikita Polyakov

    Nikita,
I'm currently in the process of integrating CRM with Service Manager. I'm actually using Anton his approach, using Orchestrator 2012 runbooks.
Basicly I am creating a runbook that queries the database of CRM (via the filtered views) and with that data I am creating objects in Service Manager (via the Service Manager integration pack)

  • Getting error when trying to create Exchange Connector in System Center Service Manager 2012

Getting error when trying to create Exchange Connector in System Center Service Manager 2012
The connection to the server was unsuccessful. Please check the server name and/or credentials entered.

Warm Regards, Pramod Kumar Singh Manager-IT

Someone sorted out this issue by installing API 1.2 and copying the dll files to the service manager server ,service folder and replacing it with API 2.0 dll files.
Also, your question is related to SCSM, please post at SCSM forum if you have further question.

  • Service Manager 2012 R2 is not in a valid state.

I currently have Service Manager 2012 SP1 with update roll up 4 installed on our server. I also installed the web portal on the same server. later I installed the web portal on a separate server(I could not remove the web portal as we had already
started using the server and I can not just uninstall the web portal. I stopped the data warehouse jobs and updated the Data warehouse to 2012 R2 with no problems and started the update for the service manager server and I get an error when the setup
splash shows up " Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Service Manager is not in a valid state". this is now a production server. I have backuped the DB and the management packs. for worst case. I have tried to run the update from all
user accounts I can think of I even detached the date warehouse thinking that some of the jobs had not stopped. I found a few links online regaurding the removal of the web portal with out removing the management server but I don't want to do
this on a production server. I am now stuck with a 2012 R2 data ware house( I can't use) and a 2012 SP1 management server and web portal. please help!!

the web portal was installed and sharepoint was never installed then moved to a different server..

Has anybody faced the same problem?
    Thanks
    Thiago

    Hi Thomas,
Thanks for your response. I understood your comments but, the system was running fine for about 3 months. No changes have been applied during this time and suddenly this error pops out.
I opened a case with MS Support, but they applied a WA which does not resolve our problem, because the error appears after a few days later after the WA procedure.
The WA is just a watermark reset using this SQL query:
    DECLARE @MaxTransactionId Int, @RuleID uniqueidentifier
    SET @RuleID = '' -- <-- SET THIS TO YOUR RULE ID!!!
    SET @MaxTransactionId = (SELECT MAX(EntityTransactionLogId) FROM EntityTransactionLog)
    UPDATE CmdbInstanceSubscriptionState
    SET State = @MaxTransactionId
    WHERE RuleId = @RuleID
The problem with this WA is that all Work Items affected by the problem - workflows not being applied - do not get the information we need to identify all the SLA's. The system just "forget" them and moves on.
    Cheers,
    Thiago

  • Service Manager 2012 R2 report libraries don't deploy

So I've got a fresh install of Service Manager 2012 R2 with SQL Server '08 R2 in the 4 server layout, everything on Hyper-V. My issue is this: after registering the data warehouse, everything appears to function normally, the MPSyncJob completes its first
pass and other jobs show up in the list but the reports section of the management console is never populated. All of the management packs deploy just fine except for the report libraries and there is no indication/logs of issues on any of the servers. I've
gone through the manual setup setups for SSRS several times with no change in results. This is the 4th full reinstall of Service Manager with the same result.
Any thoughts? Is there any way to tell whether or not SSRS is actually functioning as intended? Are there any special database permissions that need to be configured for the DW reports service account (I have read all set)?

here is the SCSM setup wizard log (part of it)
this is what I have found "Could not find WCS portal web site name in setup registry!"

  • Service Manager 2012 Remote Control

    Hello
Is there a way to integrate ConfigMgr 2012 Remote Control to Service Manager 2012 task? I have configured Remote desktop and remote assistance but, my customer specifically looking ConfigMgr 2012 Remote Control.

    Hi Manoj,
Yes, when you create a new task under Library > tasks, fill in the general information such as the Task Name, Target Class, and Management Pack. Optionally, you may select categories to add the task to be displayed in certain places in the console. When
you fill in the full path to the command line, ensure that the machines that are running the service manager console have access to this path. If Configuration Manager is installed on the computer(s) running the Service Manager Console, you may fill in the
path as C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Configuration Manager\AdminConsole\bin\i386\CmRcViewer.exe. You also have to option to insert a parameter or working directory as well if you choose to. For example, if you would like the parameter to be the Windows
Computer IP address, you may enter the following:
    $Context/Path[Relationship='CustomSystem_WorkItem_Library!System.WorkItemAboutConfigItem' TypeConstraint='CustomMicrosoft_Windows_Library!Microsoft.Windows.Computer']/Property[Type='CustomMicrosoft_Windows_Library!Microsoft.Windows.Computer']/IPAddress$
Another way to set this parameter would be by selecting Insert and selecting the property for IP Address.
Once the task has been created, you can verify it is working properly by navigating to the class/categories you have chosen and it should be listed by the Task Name you entered.

  • How to Upgrade Service Manager 2012 SP1 with Windows 2008 R2 to SCSM 2012 R2 with Windows 2012 R2

    Hi,
    We are using Service Manager 2012 SP1 UR2 with Windows 2008 R2.
I am planning to upgrade Service Manager to R2 with Windows 2012 R2. I found the steps to upgrade SCSM 2012 Sp1 to R2 but need assistance to upgrade with 2012 R2 OS.
Please suggest how to achieve the above mentioned objective.
    Regards, Syed Fahad Ali

Virtualization solves this problem handily, by allowing you to create a new server to run the new program on the same hardware. it also solves the related problem of moving off unsupported hardware without changing OS or application. VMware is my personal
favorite, but Hyper-V, Xen, and VirtualBox all have similar capabilities.
Compare the cost of work and confidence in success of a upgrade, where any of thousands or millions of uncontrolled settings could cause an issue, to the cost of work and confidence in success of installing a new OS instance and configuring a known state
    for the new environment.
In short, upgrades should no longer be a thing. there are just too many ways they can go wrong, and it's far too easy to create a new OS with minimal expense and effort.

  • HELP, need to know where Service Manager 2012 is working

Hello, I am System Administrator in a Bank with around 1100 employees and I have been setting up Service Manager 2012 since midyear 2013. Now we are finishing the job. In May
my CEO had adviser from Gartner group to tell him how he should arrange the Computer department and one of the things that the advisor from Gartner said was that we should not use Service Manager 2012 because it is not a good system and those that are using
it are in constant trouble with it and are going to take it down. Now my CEO has told me to stop working on this because he is going to decide what he is going to do. I am stunned about this "advise" from Gartner group. I really like
Service Manager and I have set up Orchestrator, Configuration Manager and Operation Manager and these system are all working well together. Now when I am ready to ship this into Production my CEO says stop, so I am really frustrated about this sales pitch
    from the "advisor".
So my question is, can anybody give me some good arguments like where is Service Manage working well and where can I show my CEO that those advises that he had from Gartner group are totally
    wrong.
I would like to thank in advance.
    Best Regards Olafur_s

I'm an staff consultant for a independent consultant company that is a Microsoft partner, and is also a partner with VMware, Citrix, etc... I'm a core infrastructure consultant, specializing in IT Management and processes. I install and configure
System center Service Manager as a major portion of my job. I consider myself a unbiased expert opinion, but that's almost a contradiction in terms.
I personally think Service Manager is one of the best service desk products available, for companies that are in certain positions.  I'm not aware of any companies that are removing it, but I am aware of a very small number of companies with
incomplete deployments they are abandoning because of standing issues, and just as many starting new deployments in the wake of the
    SDE end of life.
    first, the advantages:
Service Manager is a good mix of design flexibility and minimal configuration overhead. Compared to other helpdesk systems, the process load to create new offerings is very low, and a typical corporate system can be maintained with no more then 1 full or
part time administrator, pretty much regardless of size.
it's remarkably extensible. The authoring tool and readable XML format allows (with a little bit of familiarity) an administrator to create their own data types, forms, processes, workflows, and other management constructs
    with very little "hard" coding.
the representational object data model is a remarkable innovation that allows a very simple model translation, I.E. an object in the real world becomes a SCSM data object with very little normalization work. you don't need to think about tables, or
how identifiers are issued, or column space, or even web design. Want to manage heisenberg frabulators? awesome, create a class that represents everything about frabulators as properties or relationships, create a form that shows you a page with data
for frabulators, create a view that shows you all of the frabulators in the way you want to see them, and create a SCSM Frabulator object for each frabulator you have. If you create the frabulator class by inheriting from Configuration item, then
all of the relationships that already exist for other CIs (like Incident Affects relationship, etc) will just magically work. NONE of that requires any coding, and all of it can be done with out-of-the-box GUI tools.
SCSM has a good partner ecosystem (reference
    Provance, Syliance.com,
Expit, SCSM Solutions, etc.) including administrative tools, reports, and whole solutions.
    now the disadvantages:
Service Manager assumes that you already have an ITIL service book, and a specific type of ITIL service book with well defined, modular offerings based on very focused needs. As a starting assumption, this is a high bar. Most companies have not spent
the time or mental capital on HOW their it processes work required to take the fullest advantage of this. I personally think MORE companies should spend this capital, because they would EASILY earn it back in terms of better management oversight, process efficiency
gains, and better service delivery but no body issued me a magic wand, so...
box, Service Manager doesn't do anything. It's a representative object system that models your IT environment, until you tell it how your IT environment works, it can't model your IT environment. again, this requires a lot cognition about how your IT environment
works, and Companies that are just scraping by and don't understand how they deliver services or already have inventories are not going to be able to provide the information needed to make Service Manager really useful.
Service manager has some serious solution gaps, specifically reporting, the portal, and third party OS support. Both the portal and the default set of reports are on the list of things for the product team to improve upon, and third party products (like
Gridpro's Analyst console) are already improving non-windows support. Remember, Service manager is a VERY new product (remember,
the first RTM was april 2010) and shows INCREDIBLE progress in that time, but it still has a ways to go to compete with products that have been available
    for more then 22 years.
Microsoft has a poor reputation for feature and bug fixes, and has also shown variable levels of interest in Service Manager as a platform. The high point was probably the push for the 2012 release, where Service Requests, release management, the Offering
model and the major console improvements were all pushed in remarkably quickly. The low point was probably near the end of Travis's tenure, where it took almost two years to fix some basic workflow issues surrounding service requests after the 2012 RTM.
The recent trend on this has been positive, and
the tools are now in place to make it better, but the community as a whole is skittish right now.
As to why Gartner is recommending what they are recommending, they have a good point. Viewed pessimistically, System center is currently a beautiful, but incomplete and buggy, product that Microsoft has not been supporting adequately, based on
    deprecated technology.
But this view is incomplete: It doesn't take into account the fact that other products have higher administrative costs and minimal or non-existent automation support. It doesn't take into account the recent trend towards faster
releases, and better communication, but this things are only apparent on a longer time frame.

  • Reporting In Service Manager 2012 - How To Get A List Of All Service Requests Regardless of Status

Within the Custom Reporting Options available to users of Ssystem Center Service Manager 2012, which would one use to create reports that do not contain any agregated data but are instead detail level info such as a list of all Service Requests reardless
of status?  I want to include within the report the same data you see on the main page of a Service Request when you double-click a Service Request within Service Manager and it pops opne the details of the Service Request.
I'm trying to get the following info for each Service Requests
    SR ID (i.e. SR1234)
    Affected User
    Title
    Description
    Priority
    Source
    Area
    Support Group
    Assigned To
    Created By and Created On
I know the cubes w/Excel offer a great way to get data for a **piece meal report or for getting agregated data (I.E. counts, sums, avergares, Max's & Mins) but I need a report that has zero totals and no agregations.
    Thanks
** A piece meal report is a report that has to be manually pieced together by combining data from others reports and other sources because no single report can be constructed to bring all the data togethere into a single report.  If you've ever
worked with an accountant taht uses Excel for everything but who has no idea how SQL or databases in general are deisgned then chances are you've either been asked to create a piece meal report for them and or seen them do one them selves when they open a
spreadshet and dump into it disperate data from a variety of sources and then ask you why you can't automate that same report for them.

the following thread covers some good SQL queries to get details about the Incident Request, just amend them to cover the Service Request
