Rubber bottom of my macbook

I use my Macbook a lot...I'm in college and it's my only computer so you can imagine how much I use it. The rubber bottom seems to be coming off. I'm wondering if it is possibly just the heat that is getting to it so it warped it? I'm not sure. Is this something that is expensive to fix? Do I need to go to an Apple store to get it fixed?

It doesn't answer your specific questions about cost... but it does advise to contact an Apple Store or an AASP...
Anyway have a look at it... if you haven't already..

  • I need the rubber foot at the bottom of my Macbook. It's impossible to find.

I lost the rubber foot at the bottom of my Macbook. This has been an adventure in trying to get this. I wanted to purchase it online. Not available!! So I chat with Apple, the guy tries really hard to get it for me. Hi finds it in his system but CANNOT mail to me. Not allowed! I go to Apple store, they say I have to make an appointment with the Genius bar. I try to do that online, it won't let me, because it wants to solve through apple support or chat.
Are they kidding? A rubber foot? I am really frustrated!! Can some one help?

    Neil,
I was at the Genius Bar for another problem and mentioned the feet falling off the bottom of my MBP. The Genius's answer was that the important thing was to keep dirt from getting inside the case, so I should just take off the bottom cover and put electrical tape over the holes.
There are a few considerations for this DIY approach. First, I like the bit of stickiness that the feet give the case so it doesn't slide around, so I want something on the outside. Second, some people may not be comfortable taking apart the case and may not even have a properly sized Phillips screwdriver. Third, if you haven't seen the instructions for removing the cover, you may not realize that the screws on the front and sides of the cover go in at an angle. Even though I wanted my new feet to be installed on the outside, I wanted to look around on the inside to see if there were any loose foot parts lying around in there.
It happens that I have a screwdriver that came with a memory expansion kit, so I used that. If you need to purchase one, it's a size 00.  I laid down a large towel on my work service to keep from scratching the top cover when working on the upside down MBP, and to collect any run-away screws so they wouldn't end up on the floor. I removed the screws and set them on the towel next to the holes they came out of so I would get them beck into the same place they came from when reinstalling. Note that there is one short screw in the back and the rest are longer, at least on my model. That's why it's important to keep track of them.
With the back off I could see that there was a lot of dust inside the case already, probably mostly from the vent fan pulling it in. I cleaned up using a vacuum cleaner and a soft paintbrush.
Before starting the job I went to Home Depot and checked out the selection of feet in the area where they have stick-on pads to prevent furniture from scratching floors, etc. I chose 2" wide, thin, adhesive-backed pads that came in a package of 8 for about $2.50. I liked the shape because it thought it would be less likely to peel off than a taller pad, and there was no question that it would completely cover the holes in the case.
This is a good time to punch out any feet that didn't separate on their own. Next I cleaned the bottom panel with alcohol so the adhesive would be effective and put the pads in place, nearly centered over the original foot holes, but offset enough so as to not cover the screw holes. I firmly pressed the pads into place, being careful not to allow any wrinkles.
Finally I replaced the panel and secured it with the screws, remembering to angle the screws, except in the rear.
I week later, I love the result. The pads have just the right stickiness and I think they work better than the originals at keeping the computer from sliding away when I'm actually using it on my lap. I haven't noticed any loss of case cooling either, but I think that may be difficult to tell. The fans haven't been running any more than usual. The pads show no tendency to peel off, at least not yet. Every pick your computer with one hand, between your thumb and forefinger? Well, it's very easy with the larger "feet".
    Hope this helps.

  • Rubber bottom macbook

The rubber bottom of my late 2009 model Macbook is beginning to bubble up and fall off.. I took it to the genius bar because I saw online about the replacement program for the rubber bottoms. The guy that helped me told me a didn't qualify for the repair so I just accepted it and went on my merry way. When I got home I got back on the website and saw that I should qualify  so I requested an at home repair kit thingy.. on the repair status it says processing replacement.. Does that mean i actually did qualify after all and the guy at the store didn't know what he was doinG? And if so how long does it take to deliver because it's been in the processing replacement step for about 2 weeks now..  any suggestions will help!!!! im extremely aggravated I had to drive 45 min to an apple store and be turned away just to find out when I get home that I do indeed qualify! HELP ME

I would take the MB back to the Apple store this time and let them take a look at it. As you saw in the other thread, mine fits nice and snug and won't let and dust or dirt in. It looks like it was installed at the factory.
There is nothing else anyone here can do for you.
    Good luck.

  • Is it common for the bottom of the MacBook Pro to scratch?

    Hi -
I got myself a MacBook Pro back in June.
I was curious - I have a few scratches (two or so) on the top right near the rubber foot.
Is it common for the bottom aluminum on the bottom of the MacBook Pro to get a few very minor cosmetic scratches?

Not uncommon, but it  is avoidable. It is bound to happen if you put your MBP on a rough surface and slide it, minor scatches will happen, just be careful when you place it on anything that is even slightly rough/dirty. Pick it up to move it and try not to slide it or rotate it on a surface, the type of surface would be the key here.
Also use a case when transporting it, and keep the inside of the case clean, as well as your MBP, don't let crud build up on the case.
    See this on cleaning.

  • Cost or replacing screen and rubber bottom?

The rubber bottom part of my 2009 Macbook has started to come off so I want to get it replaced. Does anyone have an idea of the cost that Apple would charge? And also what is the cost of replacing the screen? I have a scratch on it and it is constantly multiplying in size.
    Thankyou

Your MB may qualify for a free bottom replacement. See here:

Alas, there is no screen replacement program.

  • I'm looking for screws for the bottom of my macbook pro unibody.

I need screws for the bottom of my macbook pro unibody. They started falling out after I upgraded my RAM, apparently they had some type of threadlock on them. Apple was of little help and directed me to a an apple store or service center which is not convienent. So far, I've been only able to find the 'old' pack of 5 screws, not the pack of 10 that my mac requires. I did find one seller on ebay advertising them but would like to avoid that path if possible. Any help in this matter will be greatly appreaciated. Thanks

No this is not a common problem.  Have you had the bottom off before?
The factory set screws you see a bit if blue lock tight which makes it more difficult the first time out.
They can replace the screws over the counter at any authorized repair service or Genius bar:

    What "brazilian dealer"?
    What is "parkshopping"?
    What is "iplace"?
    What defective rubber bottom?
What has this to do with Pages for Mac?
Would you like to post that in Portuguese? Just make sure you say it clearly, we have no idea at all what you are talking about.
