Rule to match unread mail?

Am I missing something, or is there no rule to match unread mail?  I'd like to change the color of all unread mail since I find the blue dot not enough, and now all messages have bold in them in the index.
Thanks.

Well, there's no way to have coloring on messages change dynamically based on things like read/unread status.  It's possible there could be a plugin for this, but it's unlikely as people seem to be more dissatisfied with this since Lion appeared.  That's probably not enough time for someone to develop a new plugin.
Note that you can always go back to the old display...  in Mail, choose Mail -> Preferences, click the Viewing icon and check the "Use classic layout" box.  That will make Mail look like it did in SL.

  • Total unread mail count display

    I believe the iPhone/ios 6.1.4 displays only the total number of unread emails in the top level of the inbox. But I have rules that move unread mail to multiple subfolders, and I'd love to be able to have a total count of unread items in the inbox and all subfolders. I use a smart mailbox to do this on the iMac, but the absence of smart mailboxes means that I'm often unaware of unread items in subfolders when I only have access to my iPhone and iPad. I'd appreciate any thoughts.

    Fact is, the iOS mail app is not as sophisticated as the mail app on your Mac, & local rules are not synced to your phone. There is no fix.
    All you can do is suggest an enhancement to Apple:

  • Rule to open mailbox containing unread mail?

    I had been using Eudora, but have recently switched to Mail. When I used Eudora, it would open a destination mailbox when new mail was filtered to it. Is there a way that I can do this with Mail, either using rules or apple script?  Othewise it's very tedious to have to manually open every mailbox marked with unread mail, and I will end up missing critical messages.  There's got to be a better way.
    I found Andreas Amaan's Mail Scripts (http://www.andreasamann.com/MacOSX/Mail_Scripts) - but the Open Mailbox script which was written to do exactly what I need - doesn't seem to work with Mountain Lion.
    Can anyone provide an updated script?

    I think there is already a default "Unread" Smart Mailbox.
    If there isn't, here's what it would look like:

    Is there an "Unread Mail" solution for the iPhone that would allow me to see all new Unread mail in one location?
    I have an iPhone 4 (not 4S). I use the Outlook client with an Exchange Server on my Desk.
    In order to keep email organized, I have many subfolders (over 100) under my Inbox with rules that automatically redirect the bulk of new unread email to the subfolders.
    In the Outlook client on the desktop, there is an "Unread Mail" Folder that lets me see ll unread mail in one location whether it be in the main inbox or in one of the subfolders of the inbox.
    I would like to see all unread email in one location without me having to change my rules and work flow that I have been using for 7+ years?
    It is much more work for me (so far) to see new email on the iPhone.  You have to scan each subfolder in order to tell where the new mail is that just arrived.

  • IPhone with Exchange 2010 account. Add "unread mail" folder?

    Hi,
    Is there any way to make search folders appear (like unread mail) in the Mail app in iOS using our corporate exchange account?
    If not are there any alternatives?
    Thank you,
    C.L.

    Unread is a smart folder so no. But you can create a rule to move all new emails to your own "unread folder" you have to create. Just create a rule where you are in the To or CC of any email. Then either send a copy to that folder or all mail to the folder. This will give you an easy way to find the email, but creates duplicates in your Outlook Unread folder. Kind of a pain but gets the emails on your phone into the same area. Hope this helps.

  • Apple Mail Rules dont apply when mail is READ on other devices!

    Hi,
    I use IMAP settings on Apple Mail (v4.5) and also check my emails on the iPhone (iPhone also set up with IMAP). However if i have read an email on the iPhone then when i switch my computer on the incoming Apple Mail Rule that applies to that sender does not seem to work. It keeps the mail within my Inbox and does not transfer the mail/message to the desired folder.
    However, if the same sender sends me an email which i do not read on the iPhone and then switch my Apple Mail ON, then the mail is automatically transferred to the desired folder.
    It looks like the problem is only with READ mail and not UNREAD mail.
    Is there a fix for this? There seems to be a lot of people having the same issue and was wondering if there is any work around on this?
    Would really appreciate any help from anyone on this.
    Regards,
    Jay
    PS: I recently moved from Outlook 2011 on MAC to Apple Mail as i heard is a far superior mail application and works smoothly. So far everything about Apple Mail has been correct, it is a fantastic app, however this Rule problem is pretty basic and surprised that Apple still has not fixed this.

    Hi Glenn,
    Many thanks for this. Unfortunately i dont have this facility on the server as we are using a simple opensource mail delivery and storage service, so the rules would have to be set up on the computer.
    I was using Outlook 2011 and prior that was using Entourage 2008 and both worked well with the IMAP rules. Nothing was ommitted and everything READ or UNREAD was imported and the rules applied. It's only in Apple Mail that these rules dont seem to work.
    Is there no other work around? No Apple Mail Add-Ins? I see quite a number of people complaining about the same problem and i'm surprise that Apple has not found a solution for this.
    Anyway, thank you soo much for your reply. Much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Jay

  • Mail - Unread Mail Count corrupted

    I have set up a Smart Mailbox in Mail to hold all of my unread mail until I have a chance to deal with it.  It is called "Unread" and the condition for the box is simply all messages that match the condition "Message is Unread"
    There are currently 15 messages in this Smart Mailbox, yet the count at the side of the Mailbox list indicates 1197, and when I click on that Mailbox the title across the top of Mail indicates "Unread (15 messages, 1197 unread)".
    Clearly that unread count has been corrupted some way ... is there any way to reset it?
    Many thanks to anyone who can help!
    OS X 10.9 [Mavericks] Build 13A693 | Mail Version 7.0 (1816)

    Not entirely te same thing but after upgrading to 10.9 my Gmail item count in my "Inboxes" is continually set at "1" eventhough there are no unread messages.  I have also gone to gmail via the web app and it shows no unread messages.  So something is assuredly wacky.

  • Mail Migration - Folders Subscriptions & Unread Mail

    Hello,
    I'm currently testing a migration from MS 5.2 to 6.2. Sorry for all
    the verbage here - I'll try to shorten as much as possible.
    iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 HotFix 2.09 (built Nov 18 2005)

    libimta.so 6.2-3.04 (built 01:43:03, Jul 15 2005)
    I have issues with read messages showing up unread and folder subscriptions gone. I'm looking at the folder subscription issue right now.
    The portal migration first has us 'migrate' the email data. After that is done, a rename of the email account is done to match the 'immutable id'. So user/joeuser/INBOX is going to become user/83899111100/INBOX. What I have found is that if joeuser had a store.sub file, it is now gone after the rename. If I copy the original store.sub file and edit the contents to match the new acct, joeuser can then see the folders.
    Is that normal behavior for the store.sub file to disappear if you are completely renaming an account?
    Regarding the unread mail issue. I copy the mboxlist info from the 5.2 system to the 6.2 system, run the upgrade scripts, and start stored. The default log for stored statup that say "Removing database environment" and to run reconstruct -m.

    I run the reconstruct -m, which works and results in a new database. I would assume that this is why all the mail shows up as 'unread'. Is this a correct assumption? Where is read/unread info kept?
    I've opened up a problem with the portal vendor. For the subscribed issue, that seems related to the rename of the account itself. For the unread issue, that would seem related to the 'newly initialized' database.
    Since the 6.2 system doesn't like something about the migrated database and to avoid 'losing' the old database, I am being told to the the following on the current 5.2 system prior to migration to ensure a clean database:
    1. reconstruct -m
    2. And one step 1 is complete, reconstruct -r -f
    Does this seem like the right thing to do?
    Thanks for reading all of this and whatever info you can provide.

Before going any further - performing the upgrade with a non-patched version of 6.2 is going to cause problems period -- regardless of whether this is 'necessary' due to some kind of portal support requirement.

    I've opened up a problem with the portal vendor. For the subscribed issue, that seems related to the rename of the account itself. For the unread issue, that would seem related to the 'newly initialized' database.I suggest you upgrade to 118207-63 prior to performing the migration and see if either/both issues persist.
I would run "reconstruct -r" which will quickly detect and resolve simple errors, but running (1) and (2) seems un-necessary since this is unlikely to be the cause of the behaviour you mentioned.
    There are known issues with upgrading from 5.2->6.2 e.g. bug #6460035 - "make_mboxlistdb_changes.sh script does not copy the log files" which will lead to the same error -- once again this is fixed in 118207-63.

  • Show only unread mail

    I am connected to my html email account.  I is on an Exchange server.  In outlook there is a folder called Unread Mail.  I have a lot of rules that filter my mail into folders so I use Unread Mail a lot in outlook.  I would prefer if my BlackBerry also looked at this folder to show my emails, this way I would get all of those that were filtered and not just the ones in the inbox.  Is there a way for me to do this?  I am running version 6.0 bundle 2426 of the BlackBerry software on my phone.
    Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

    Anyone have any thoughts on a way to do what I am looking for?

  • Unread mail on dock icon?

    Hi,
    Been using Mail for a couple of months now but I don't see the number of unread mails thing on the mail icon in the dock. Why is this? Does it only show unread mails in the inbox? I use rules to filter mail into smartboxes.
    Also, this applies to any app really, but what is the difference between 'Hide' (Apple-H) and 'Close Window' (Apple-W)??
    I've often wondered.
    Thanks,
    iLee

    Yes, it only shows messages in the inbox. There's an app called DockStar that will allow you to modify this behaviour:
    http://www.ecamm.com/mac/dockstar/
    Hide hides the whole application - so if there are multiple windows they will all disappear (but are still open so that when you select the app again they'll all be in the same position).
    Close closes the window - so you would need to open a new window to get back to it.

  • MAIL - IMAP subfolders and notification of new unread mail

    I'm trying to get MAIL to notify when new mail is put into a shared IMAP account subfolder.
    The mail server is CommuniGatePro with server side rules, sorting incoming mail to one account into subfolders in that account, based on sender mail address.
    The sorting works but I have to discard the mail in the Inbox because otherwise I have a copy of every mail left there.
    The problems is I can't see any unread mail have arrived until I click the sub-folder.

    I don't have as complex a Mail setup, but do have incoming Mail sorted via rules and then distributed into subfolders. Mail doesn't seem able to put it's little red star icon in the dock to recognise these new mails, which is annoying.
    In order to quickly read new mail regardless of where the rules had distributed it, I simply reated a Smart mailbox to contain any unread mail, that way I can quickly read it in one place regardless of where it has been stored...

  • How to include the exchange sub folder's unread mail into the "UNREAD" group in default exchange mail app in iPhone ?

    I am using ios 7.0.2. I have many sub folders in my exchange mail box. Problem is when any mail comes to the sub folder, it is not counted as unread mail and it also does not be visible under the unread mail group. The unread mail group only shows the unread mails which have come directly to inbox but not the mails which comes to the sub folder according to the set rule. Have any one noticed this ridiculous thing? Is there any solution or it's a bug??

    I have the same problem. On the IPad and IPhone I can easilly connect to our Exchange server. When setting up a MacBook Air, using the same settings (account/server address etc) it doesn't work...
    Does anyone have a solution for this?
    Thanks!

  • Unread mail shows unread mail, but no unread mail!

    My dock shows mail as having 2 unread messages, but I don't have any unread messages!!

    to mail>preferences>general and for the option Dock unread count, choose Inbox.
    also to find out where these ghost unread emails are why don't you create a smart mailbox with the rule "message is unread" and see what will show up in that mailbox.
    hope this helps

  • Bogus Unread Mail Count?

    Hi,
    I did a synch this morning and seem to have buggered the 'unread' mail count
    that badges the Phone Icon.
    I also upgraded to OSX 10.5.7...
    It asserts that there are 11 unread messages but I cannot find any...
    How can I clear the incorrect mail count?
    Thanks
    Jerry

    I figured it out...
    I think when I did the sync it added a new mail
    account that I had created on my mac for tracking
    my wifes medical correspondence...
    The badge count matched the number of unread mails in
    the new account.

  • How to access unread mails of all users in Exchange server without having Passwords and without giving mailbox access to other user.

    Hi all,
       I am using Exchange server 2013, my task is to create
    Service , that
    need's to  monitor continuously for new mails of all Mailboxes in
    my server. if any user got new mail i need to get that Mail Subject, Mail Body, Sender Email Address [From emailId] .
    Limitation
    : I don't have Passwords of mailboxes , so i gave all mailbox access permission  to one user , then i completed this   service using below code.
     But now, Client
    not willing to give Mailbox Permissions to one user because of security problems.
    How can i do this without passwords and without giving permissions to other user ?
    i don't want all mailbox access , i just need only
    access Mail Subject , Body and Sender mail address .
    How can i achieve
    this ?
    Process i follow
    => I created new user in server , and then i gave full permissions of all Mailboxes to newly created user[ex: james] in database level.
         i use below command for giving permissions in database level.
    Get-MailboxDatabase -Identity <Database Name> | Add-ADPermission -User <User> -AccessRights GenericAll
     => using below code i am searching unread mails of all user Mailboxes and then getting Subject, body and Sender Email            address . here i am have list of users,
    ExchangeService service = new ExchangeService(ExchangeVersion.Exchange2013);
    service.Credentials = new WebCredentials("[email protected]", "password");
    service.AutodiscoverUrl("[email protected]");  foreach (Object obj in usersList) // here i have Mailbox users list in usersList
                 { var userMailbox = new Mailbox(obj.user);
    var folderId = new FolderId(WellKnownFolderName.Inbox, userMailbox);
    SearchFilter.IsEqualTo filter1 = new SearchFilter.IsEqualTo(EmailMessageSchema.IsRead, false);
    var itemView = new ItemView(50);
    var userItems = service.FindItems(folderId, filter1, itemView);
    foreach (var item in userItems)
    item.Load();
    var senderEmail = ((EmailMessage)item).From;
    var subject = item.Subject;
    var body = item.Body;

    You would need to check that possibilities via WebServices but suggest you to post this in Development forum to get help from programmers....
