RULES acting Funky

I LOVE rules... and they've always done well for me.
However, I just "upped my game" a notch by applying an "alert" to a new rule I made. And, it works, sortof.
The email comes in, and it's text is bright green, just like the rule states. But the problem is the SOUND usually comes anywhere between 10 minutes and 5 hours AFTER the email comes in.
I'm sitting on my couch and AAAUUUGAAA! Scares the bajiminy out of me!
Why isn't mail applying these rules right away?

HD is full and MacPro is acting funky

i am on hold with mac advanced tech and have a bit of an emergency as i try and get out of town.
i just did a fresh install of my OS and manually migrated data back to my 1 TB HD and /had/ planned on dealing with archiving data (including a 25 GB aperture library) off my HD when i get back into town.
the issue i am running into is the HD is just about plumb full up and FINDER is acting very funky. when i go into folders that should have data in them i don't see any data in them and this is making it very hard to navigate. is this normal in this situation?
does anyone know how to proceed from here? i tried deleting nine items and this action is hung.
force shutdown and restart...?

hi. this was for the mac pro. sorry if i mentioned MBP.
seems like the issue was that finder got hung up deleting seven files and until i force quit out of finder it would not show data in other folders in other finder windows.
very bizarre and sort of dangerous IMHO.

Trackpad acting funky but mouse okay

Okay so suddenly after having my 12" 867 PB for almost 3 years my trackpad is acting up. Its almost acting elastic like I can only move the pointer out so far before it snaps back. If I don't have my finger on it the pointer just kinda wobbles in place a little. If I plug in a mouse the mouse works fine but if I still have the trackpad enables it wobbles while the mouse is plugged in but otherwise works. If I click ignore trackpad while mouse is plugged in the wobble goes away. If I use the mouse anywhere from a few seconds to minutes then unplug the mouse the trackpad then seems okay for a while...then out of the blue it starts acting up again (usually within minutes).
Any thoughts?

help me it's getting worse! Now I can't click anything! I restart it often but it only works for a few minutes :(

Play Sound Rule Acting Backwards

Hi,
I've created a Mail rule that my MPB should play a sound when From is my wife's email address.
However, incoming mail from her does not play the sound. The odder thing is that when I email her -- which is to say when mail goes out -- the sound plays.
Anyone know what's wrong here? Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?

I am experiencing this exact same issue, although it does occasionally work as configured. Most of the time though, no sound is played until I reply to the message. If I create a new message from scratch, the sound isn't played. I upgraded from 10.5 to 10.6 and the problem remains.
I have a rule that is configured to play a sound if any conditions are met, with three conditions set to the from being equal to a specific email address.
The email is processed by another rule that states if the sender belongs to a certain group in my address book to highlight the email in a different color. I'm going to try removing the person from the group to see if that helps.
Any ideas would be appreciated!

Array session attribute acting funky.

I have a 6x2 array in the session and it works pretty much as expected but a little bit funky.
EDIT: Quick clarification. The 6x2 array is of type String and is supposed to contain 6 pairs of values. The first in the pair is the name of a video, the second is the label.
As you can see, I am checking if the video being displayed is the one on the list and printing selected='selected' if it's true (so that whichever video shown is the one that defaults on the drop down menu). Then I print the video value into the value attribute and the label as the label for that option. Hope this all makes sense. Let me know if I wasn't clear about something.

      </c:forEach>It prints out kind of correctly. There should be 6 options and the first time it prints fine. If I try to change the option from my drop down box, everything prints correctly EXCEPT the first iteration. feedPair[0] gives me the value of what I would expect in the corresponding iteration. So say I selected the third option....feedPair[0] is returning in the first iteration what is supposed to be returned in the third iteration.
Showing the code might make it easier to understand.

Your display logic here looks correct.
The question is what are you doing to the feedPair array when you select a value?
What java/jsp code gets run at that point? You are probably modifying the feedArray list, and the changes are being reflected in the display of the next page.

1GB Lexar USB drive - Acting Funky

Hi,
I've been using a Lexar "jump drive" for a long time moving .mp3s from mac to mac, mac to pc, etc. Within the last few months it started acting crazy, I chalked it up to a problem with the drive and bought a new one, a 1GB Lexar. But the problems have continued - the folders get corrupted and don't even seem to be there, the names of folder duplicate to other folders, the files copied there don't really go there, or they seem to but then disappear when you click on them or try to use them, when you try to erase the whole drive random file name words stick around.
I'm running a MacBook Pro v10.4.9. The info on the drive from the disk utility is:

I've checked the discussion boards and I haven't seen anything exactly like this one, so thought maybe someone could help. I was reading that maybe I have to reformat to HFS+ or something, but I don't know how to do that. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

No, that particular format isn't read by PC, if you want to read/write with both Operating Systems choose FAT32

Acting "funky" like it has a virus

My playbook has just begun to freeze during various activities including this letter, not allowing backing up sometimes and even making you move around within the program, clicking randomly,or then just freezing up completely to the point of the having to restart the tablet. The very first time the device crashed it was during a youtube video..If that makes any difference. I know that the BB OS system is pretty impervious to such worries but the way my playbook has begun to act makes me sketchy. Again this has just begun....Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize for causing chaos, Sarah. It is only that though I search the topics for keywords....SO many pages come up.....with SO many different topics that I become confused and frustrated....not only with myself but with the site. Even if I find a thread similar to my own, there are usually a myriad of responses from earlier dates that end up being unhelpful....or actually NOT related to my actual issue. If I do find a thread that is otherwise inclined, I do try to jump in there...if I can find a spot to jump in that actually makes sense. I try to do this on issues that are even old listings, just in case a person may still be struggling with the issue. I believe this happened on the last problem I turned to the forums for. With all this having been explained, I will state that I have continually found these forums to be very helpful in the past and hope to continue throughout the future.
I do not think my device has a virus, as I have been told through this forum before that the OS is impervious to such. I only stated that it was acting "as if" it did for lack of a better way to describe the situation. I am sorry for any confusion that I may have caused with my wording.
The issues also primarily happen during times while I am NOT online; I have only experienced problem once in these forums and twice during email. I am working on your suggestion, but as of yet, am still unable to get it to back-up correctly (continually errors).

Powerbook G4 acting funky: possibly from device removal...HELP PLEASE!

Hello. My computer has been behaving strangely and not working properly; mainly, I have a constant spinning beach ball...even with no other programs open. Basically my computer just locks up with the spinning beach ball whenever I try to do anything at all (double-clicking, typing in a field, etc.). I think it may have started when I prematurely removed my camera while uploading photos to IPhoto.
It has become so bad that my computer won't even start up. When I boot up, it acts like it's trying to start (shows the apple screen for a minute or so) then just shuts off.
(On a side note, my battery is so bad it doesn't even hold a charge at all...I have to always have my power adapter plugged in to use the computer. Don't know if this is a factor or not.)
Anyway, I've run the Apple Hardware test with the Mac OS X Install disc and the hardware test came out fine...everything passed. Then I tried rebooting while holding C, choosing Disc Utilities, and repairing disk. This is the message I received:
First Aid Failed:
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit (-9972)
Repair attempted on 1 volume
0 HFS volumes repaired
1 volume could not be repaired
What can I do from here? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

This means that you have an issue with your hard drive that Disk Utility cannot repair. The next step many take is to use either Disk Warrior, which seems to be the preferred software solution, or TechTool Pro (if you have TechTool Deluxe from Applecare, you can get a discounted upgrade to TechTool Pro).
When you used Disk Utility from the OS X DVD, did you notice what it said at the bottom of the screen for SMART status? If it's anything but 'verified' then you have hardware issues with the drive.
If one of those programs can't repair the disk, then you need to replace the hard drive, as it has issues that can't be fixed. Some have tried to erase and write zero's to the hard drive, however, this 'fix' may not last long.
If you're able to run it, a program like Smart Utility from http://www.volitans-software.com/smart_utility.php is useful to read the SMART indicators on the hard drive, which can give you good information on the health of the drive.

IPhone 3g acting funky

Lately my wife's 3g has been acting strange. When it gets low on battery, she plugs it into the wall charger and it can sit there for hours w/out responding (charging). I thought it was the battery being bad but when she plugs it into the car charger, it is charged almost full in minutes. Seems to do the same when plugged into a computer to charge or using my cord. Also when plugged in, the screen acts strange. You can click on one thing and it opens something else etc. Anyone have any clues on what this is?

The office suite shows up twice on the bottom--I need to uninstall and reinstall it but now it still shows up twice; documents act funky and load again when I pick the other icon--how can I reinstall completely so just one office suite in indeed installe

I put office for MAC on my macbook air--it somehow shows up twice and documents load out there depending on which one you pick. I need to get all of the office installiations off and reinstall but it appears to leave one out there. When I go to applications I cannot see it but I can see it on the icon line on the bottom of the screen. How can I reinstall Office for Mac so there is only one installation on my computer ?

Unfortunately the information given to you by r8er is incorrect, deleting the Office folder from Applications only partially uninstalls Office.
Here are the correct uninstallation instructions for you.
And the icons at the bottom are just shortcuts.

Apple Mail Acting Funky with Gmail, Not Updating

I'm running OS X 10.9.1 on a MacBook Air and Apple Mail 7.1. I'm up to date on all updates.
It seems Mavericks and Gmail are not playing well together and my Gmail is not loading or updating consistently. I can force it to update using the following steps:
Open Mail
File > Close
File > New Viewer Window
Unfortunately this process needs to be repeated to manually update Gmail. Any advice?

Apple: Your Mac Mail 7.1 on Mavericks 10.9.1 is terrible.
it is slow.
It hangs up in the IMAP push and pull with servers like G-Mail.
It dupicates addresses.
It can't handline large amounts of IMAP messages (I have over 50,000 emails) without confusing mailboxes.
When is the next update? Lacking the next significant update, who are your competitiors who have competent programs?
Additionally you need to force quit the process thought activity monitor to shut down about 20% of the time.
Frustrated.

Compressor is acting funky

I hope I can explain this correctly. I have a multicam concert that I am editing. The main sequence is just 1 edited 2 camera multiclip with 4 tracks of audio. I want to put seperate songs with my slate at the beginning and end on youtube. So I made 6 seperate sequences that I put 6 different songs in. I exported each of them to compressor. I then batched all of them using H264 overnight. So I wake up and my original project is closed(thank god I saved) and a new project is open that is named some random letter and number combo like 12jkl322kllj5435. The only thing in the browser of this project is one of my sequences from the original project. So I know obviously that something is happening but I still hoped my quicktimes were fine. Well the first one is fine, the 2nd one somehow is the same video as the first(it is def a different video in the sequence??), the 3rd and 4th seem to be fine but with 15-20 seconds of black added to them at the end and the 5th and 6th cut off before they hit the end?????? I can't explain any of this?? I have tried this batch a few times and each time the same outcome. I even deleted the 2nd sequence and made a new 1 hoping that the correct video will encode, but every time the 2nd ends up being what is in the 1st sequence??? Hopefully this is not too confusing and someone can help me. Thank you!!

When FCP crashes while doing a FCP to compressor export, compressor will attempt to reopen FCP and continue the export. Usually it doesn't work well and this probably explains the strange project and file numbers you saw in the morning.
The rest just sounds like a general export error due to the initial crash. Try rebooting the whole machine and exporting again. If you still have problems, try a direct export from FCP using Export QT same as. Then, drag your individual QTs from the Finder to Compressor and do the remaining conversions there without FCP running in the background. You'll find that it actually works faster this way, though there is a very slight loss.

IPod is acting funky

I have a 30gb iPod Photo, and it's only about 3 months old, if that. Lately it's been bugging out on my severely. It will skip like a dirty cd, freeze up when navigating the menus, constantly needs restoring because iTunes gives me an error telling me it can't connect, and recently, just started deleting things off the drive and also when it's plugged into my computer, it will never allow it to be disconnected (I know there is a word for this, but I can't remember it ><). I don't know what I should do. I don't know if it's a hardware problem, or what.

This is what I would do:
1) Make sure all your music is in your iTunes Library,
2) Plug the iPod into the wall (not USB/Firewire),
3) Do a Reset (hold center + hold until Apple logo appears),
4) Start the iPod Updater program, and do a Restore,
5) Start iTunes and resync your Library.
If this doesn't fix your problem, then it needs to be replaced.

IPod acting funky

So I try to connect my 5th gen video ipod to my computer and nothing happens. It doesn't appear in the windows system or iTunes. The only way I can update my iPod is by manually putting it into disk mode and updating it, like a functioning iPod should, then disconnecting it and reseting it twice. This is really annoying. any suggestions.

Oh, I don't know what it is then.
I restored my husband's shuffle when it started taking a long time ot load songs. I do convert them to AAC and that makes iTunes take longer while it converts the songs.

Wireless Keyboard losing connection - Mouse acting funky

I keep getting a "connection lost" message and then have to "wake up" the keyboard. I just changed the batteries in both the wireless mighty mouse & wireless keyboard. The mouse keeps getting very "choppy" and unresponsive, then straightens out after a few minutes. Also lots of keyrepeats. The problem has been here for a while but seems to be getting worse. All software & firmware is up to date. When I turn on the keyboard the light only stays on for a few seconds then goes out.

There should be four tiny wires with round connectors, each labelled "1" "2" "3" and "BT". 1-3 are for the Airport card and BT is for Bluetooth.
