Rules of relink

Hi all...
In oreder to make relinking as painless as possible...
I was wondering...
does Premiere Pro auto look in Sub folders of a directory....
So If I have a
Projects Folder (and Auto save Preview and caches so I can set those to same as project)
and then within that a Media Folder for captured media and
and subdivide element types folders (supplemental, audio, etc)
If I have to link to the first piece of captured media....will premiere look into all the sub folders automatically?
Thanks,
Alex

I usually just open the .prproj in wordpad or another text editor and search/replace the paths manually. It is really much faster, provided you know where everything was and where it now is.

  • Clips will not relink even though they're there

FCPX on a Macbook Pro, media on a thunderbolt raid drive.
I have a project using several different events to refer to and there are the clips in red with the yellow triangle warning sign on them.  The ones that had the missing files designation have been reconnected successfully.  The ones that were missing proxy files have had that done as well.  Now there are clips that are red, with the yellow warning triangle, and can not be reconnected.  I control click on clip in the project and it does refer back to the clip in the event.  I control click onto the clip in the event, select reveal in finder and it does refer back to the proxy media in the finder.  That proxy media has the original file back in the Originals folder.  So all of the files are there but FCPX can't seem to recognize it.
One more tidbit:  In the project when I hit play the audio, which is part of the video clip, plays just fine, there is not video playing.  I have drag and dropped clips, that I re imported, onto the missing file in the project and that seems to work but I want to know what happened and how it became such a huge mess.  It seems the only file that have this strange missing video behaviour are the ones that I have in use in the project.  Event files not in the project seem to be fine.
Any clues would save me hours and hours.  Thanks.

There are many nasty bugs in regards to relinking media files in FCPx. Many things that have not been explored properly. (Normal for such a new software).... It would help (me) a great deal if were to describe the EXACT steps you took DURING relinking. And WHY you had to relink....
Without that it is more or less impossible to help you. I would have to guess. What you are experiencing is most likely a BUG (not necessarily though) and if you can provide detailed info about your steps to achieving the problem then you should post it here as well as sending it to FCPx Feedback. They (Apple) REALLY listens to it and they are really forthcoming in trying to solve problems.
    General Rules for Relinking
    1) DONT EVER relink while you are in Proxy Mode
    2) If after relinking you are experiencing "Funny Stuff" >>> Temporarily move the contents of "Transcoded Media" of the event library in question outside of the event library... QUIT FCPx first... Then restart FCPx to check if the problem is gone. After than PUT BACK the contents.
IF you have had FCPx create high quality media for you, then after relinking you MUST CREATE it again(If you were relinking original media). Unless the file you are re-linking to is PR 422.
    3) If other problems arise > Select the Event and from the File Menu "Delete Event Render Files" ALL
I had one instance where my employee had stabilized a few clips in After Effects... He knew no better and saved all his After Effects files i.e. MVI_9889.aep (Which is merely the project) into "Transcoded Media/High Quality Media"  after doing so... FCPx thought that those .aep were movies (Even though he never added them to the event library) and displayed them with a RED icon stating that FCPx did not have the necessary plug-in to playback the movie....
Just one example of weird stuff going on with the media management....
Rule of thum.... DONT (unless no way out) mess witht ANYTHING inside the Projects or Events from the Finder.... ALWAYS do SUCH from within FCPx.
And if you find any anomalies - report step by step to FCPx Feedback what happens... So that we can get rid of those bugs
PS - another problem is when FCPx has created High Quality Media for you.... When you select YOUR clip in the event browser. You are actually selecting a PR422 files that FCPx created for you. If you re-link THAT file to another file, FCPx wont actully delete the PR422 file. And I have had numerous issues where it (FCPx) would get confused afterwards. And still USE the original PR422 file.. Just because it was there. I had to quit FCPx and physically delete the file via the Finder for FCPx to actully use the clip I had re-linked to....
I take that FCPx uses UUID (Unique User IDs) for each file... Becuase if you quit FCPx and swap one file that it is using with an exact copy of itself, FCPx will still throw a "Missing Media" icon. UUIDs are great in some scenarios and killers in others.

  • Relinking forms executables results in "No rule to make target"

In the course of installing Forms 11.1.1.4 on weblogic 11gR1 (10.3.4), I ran into an issue after installing patch p9473270 (refer to Oracle Doc ID 1276725.1). The ERP system vendor recommends relinking the forms executables after applying this patch with the following commands:
    Relink the Oracle forms binaries:
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/forms/lib
    make -f ins_forms.mk frmcmp_install
    make –f ins_forms.mk frmbld_install
    make –f ins_forms.mk frmcmpb_install
    make –f ins_forms.mk frmweb_install
The second command resulted in an error:
    $ make –f ins_forms.mk frmbld_install
make: *** No rule to make target `–f'. Stop.
After researching this issue, I tried the following command :
    $ relink forms
This successfully relinked all forms executables.
    -rwx------ 1 oracle dba 12510433 Jan 20 20:11 frmcmp
    -rwx------ 1 oracle dba 20547 Jan 20 20:11 frmctrl
    -rwx------ 1 oracle dba 13721638 Jan 20 20:11 frmcmp_batch
    -rwx------ 1 oracle dba 12510975 Jan 20 20:11 frmbld
    -rwx------ 1 oracle dba 15275747 Jan 20 20:11 frmweb
Any thoughts on the usage of "relink forms" vs. the make command? Or why I was encountering the error " No rule to make target"?

    Hi,
Please see {thread:id=2426792}, appears that 11gR2 is not certified on Linux 6.

  • "relink" problem in InDesign CS4: links are updated automatically

    Hi folks,
we use a script to relink our InDesign documents when the links have been moved on the file system.
Inside the script we just call link.relink(...) but not link.update().
We experience a different behavior between CS3 and CS4 after the script has run.
    CS3:
Links that have been modified after moving and before relinking are then shown as modified (with a yellow mark ) in the Links tab.
    CS4:
The links are all shown as uptodate.
Seems like the update()-function has been called automatically.
Is there a option to just relink the links in CS4 but not to update them?
    Kind regards

Thank you for the help, Robin!
Restoring everything after relinking would be as risky as the automatic updates. I would need a warning when the VisibleBounds have changed after updating. Maybe with an option to restore them one by one while I'm looking at the image which is being restored.
Of course this can't be full-automat But there is posibility to define list of rules what could be done automatically in specified conditions.
List of all linked images could look like this:
    (I'm sorry for old screen)
Is it only for PC, because it would be a VBscript?
It will be VisualBasic6 app compiled to exe.
I can even do it as a "service" - so you can put INDD file in special folder (WatchedFolder) and script can analyze INDD file, make report and then you can decide "off-line" what should be done with "problematic" images.
I think I can even make it with option to see preview of "problematic" images in report so you can make decision without opening INDD file. Then you can upload report with selected options back to WatchedFolder to finish "conversion".
Even if you work on Mac - it shouldn't be a problem for you to use this tool - you only need to have one PC connected to your local network. To go further - on the same PC could be installed web server (Apache+PHP+mySQL) and you can controll everything from web browser

  • Relink and Update links in CS5 using VBA

    Hi everyone,
Does anyone have a link to an online reference for VBA Scripting in CS5? Most of what I find online is for CS2. That said, I have a VBA script that is written for CS2 that goes through an InDesign document and relinks every link to a certain file path variable, then updates the link (code below). When I run this in CS5, the links do not update. I am not sure how to tell if it is the .Relink() function that is not working, or the .Update funtion that is not working because I do not receive any errors. It just doesn't update. Any help would be really great. Thank you so much!
(this code works perfectly in CS2)
    Dim idLink
    For Each idLink In idDoc.Links
    idLink.Relink (pathvariable & idLink,Name)
    idLink.Update
    Next idLink

Robohelp has always had a problem. Their help instructions leave the user saying, "I asked a question and your answer is way too ambiguous to be meaningful." They talk about "breadcrumbs" as though you know what breadcrumbs are and can follow what they are saying. To me, "breadcrumbs" are crumbs left by brittle bread. They tell you how to make them without telling you how they look or what they are supposed to do.
It is all over Robohelp. I had to look on Google to find out what a T.O.C. is because they don't say anywhere that it refers to the table of contents.
Robohelp needs to follow this rule: Define a word before you use it. Otherwise no matter how you describe it, the description has no value.
This is why they do things shoddily when talking about VBA. In VBA you have to have "Subs" and "Functions" before you have a place to put the script. In Robohelp they simply show you the lines of code without telling you how to make a sub routine or function. They don't tell you how to dim the variable in Robohelp. It doesn't work the same in Robohelp as it does in MS Access, MS Word or any other application that uses VBA.
Robohelp is trying hard but the people who write things are not communicators. They are obfuscators.
Now for those who need to learn VBA.  I teach it after work free.  contact me at [email protected] and I can share with you my 18 years of experience using it in MS Access, Word, Excel, Outlook and other applications.  However I can't tell you how to use it in Robohelp yet because they don't clue me in on it.  They break the rules.

  • Relinking/Changing Media

Quick question on re-linking or changing media in Color.
I've got an FCP sequence that I've "Sent to Color". It has opened fine, and I can color the sequence as normal.
Now, I've taken one of the shots into After Effects and fixed some issues, and saved it back into the same media folder but with a different name (i.e., FileName_ver2.mov).
I tried "relinking" the one clip by right clicking it in the timeline and select "Relink Media". It pulls up the file dialogue box. But, when I select the Version 2 clip, I get the spinning rainbow ball of death. And, Color hangs indefinitely.
So, I tried the super snaeky way, by changing the name of the new clip to the name of the original clip. Still didn't work. Now, when it opens, it just hangs on the "Loading Project" alert.
Not sure what's going on. Am I breaking a Color rule by trying to change the media? If so, then what's the workflow for inserting new clips into the timeline without having to start from scratching FCP?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Russ

    JPO,
You're right. Color does not create its own XML, and that's what's hurting me right now.
I've rendered all my clips in the timeline as ProRes422, but when I "Send To FCP", the timline is still based on DVCProHD (codec and pixel ratio). DVCProHD is squished at 960x720. And, ProRes is 1280x720, non-squished. The problem I'm experiencing now is that when I create a new ProRes (1280x720) sequence in FCP, and bring my new color sequences into it, all of the clips are squished back to 960x720, and don't fit my 16x9 frame.
I really don't want to go back to a DVCProHD codec, because then I lose all my color information (from 32 bit floating point coloring). I wish there was a way to tell Color to create a ProRes timeline instead of the DVCProHD timeline.
The only solution I found is that I can create a new sequence in ProRes codec, but use the DVCPro frame size and pixel aspect ratio. But even then, it requires me to render. So, I have a feeling I'm losing some pixel information from the conversion.
I guess the only other option is manually place each rendered clip back into the timline, but that really ***** because this project is a feature film with over 800 clips.
    Any ideas?
    Russ

  • InDesign CS 5.5 file relink error

    Hello all...
One of our designers has a problem with modified links messages whenever he opens an In-Design file. In every file he opens, the links all show up as modified. If another user on the network opens the same file, the links show up as OK. Once he updates the file and saves it back, any other user that opens that file then shows the links as modified.
We have a dozen users, all Mac-based (10.6.8), all using CS5.5. We use a central Mac file server. Users copy a file to their desktop make corrections and then copy it back to the server. The server contains all the graphics linked within the file. The same problem arises when he opens a file directly off the server over the network, so it is not the physical location of the file. His file-sharing preferences on the server are the same as other users.
The only other issue (that we will be fixing soon) is that all the Macs, even though they are all synched to the Apple Americas/U.S. time server (time.apple.com), have different times on their computer (by a few minutes each way). While this has given us some problems in the past with people opening up the most recent file, but the date showing it was older, etc, this problem isn't happening with other Macs, whether they are set at a more recent time or older.
    Any ideas?

As a rule, yes, but in this case, it doesn't matter if the individual machines are off because whether they are timed before or after this one, they don't have the relink issue. Besides, some of the files are months (or years) old and they (or their path) have not been modified in that time.
We are working on getting a network synch to the main server, but it has been sketchy in the past.

  • BRF+ Message Log & "Rule as Expression"

    Hi colleagues,
I am quite new to BRFplus and have two questions:
    1) I would like to use a message log action in order to indicate errors. I tried to follow https://wiki.wdf.sap.corp/wiki/display/FDT/Message+Log   with method SET_APPLICATION_LOG_OBJECT, but I can't find the class this method belogns to. I also tried modelling a rule & action message log with help of the UI. My question is how can I log messages and where can I find them after the function is beeing processed?
    2) In every guide I can read something about rule expressions and even how to create them (e.g. http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/cc/85414842c8470bb19b53038c4b5259/frameset.htm), but in the workbench there is no possibilty of creating rules as expressions but only rules and rulesets (the rule is not part of the "Expression" node).
I hope somebody knows what I mean
Thanks a lot & kind regards,
    Ilijana

Thanks a lot for your response!
Could you tell me why using rules and rulesets is not recommended for 7.01 ? This could be interesting for my bachelor thesis.
    Thanks & Kind Regards,
    Ilijana

  • Mail rules sending mail to wrong folder

I'm downloading all my multi-account Gmail (thousands) into Mail app with rules set up to reroute gmails into their proper account inboxes/sent folders/etc. However, Mail seems to be ignoring everything I want it to do and moves ALL mail into Account 1 of my 3 inboxes. Example:
If From is equal to "[email protected]" then move message to Account 1 sent folder.
If To is equal to "[email protected]" and it's in Account 1 or Account 3, then move message to Account 2 inbox.
    etc.
    Could it be message overload?

This is not working for me either, as of a week or two ago. Junk mail is marked as junk, but stays in my inbox, regardless of my junk mail settings. I have it set to move junk to the junk folder, but Mail simply refuses to do so. I tried changing the setting, closing preferences, opening prefs and changing it back, but that does not help either.
Sadly this is the least of my problems with Mail in Leopard. I've had nothing but problems with it so far and I'm getting really frustrated. I'm running out of patience and ideas and it may simply be time to wipe out all my mailboxes and preferences, reimport all my old mail and start over from scratch again.

  • Error while Activating update rule in BW

    Hi,
I am getting an ABAP dump while activating an update rule. The rule is from DSO to cube.
    "MESSAGE_TYPE_X" " "
    "%_T020N1" or "%_T020N1"
    "INSTANTIATE"
I have added some new fields in a DSO. The rule is from DSO to cube. While activating it, I am getting this ABAP dump. There are few other rules from this DSO to other DSO which got activated but this one is causing dump.
Any ideas/suggestions on this would be really helpful.
    Thanks,
    Naveen

    Hi
Check if your Cube , DSO and UR's are active. If not reactivate them. Ideally you could recreate the UR's and check the status by running the extraction.
I would also recommend to use elimination method to check if any particular field is creating an issue. While recreating the UR's , create them for a few fields - active - check extraction - this will also let you know if the issue is within any oif the rules.
    Cheers
    Umesh

  • Start up programs icloud doesn't play by the rules

I intend this to be a formal complaint. I am running windows 7 64-bit on my PC, and have repeatedly removed the iCloud program from the list of assigned startup programs. Every few restarts (so every 1-2 times that I restart or turn on my computer) it appears again, running at startup, using up resources. I value the control I have over which programs open when I start my computer- by managing the programs and limiting the number which automatically run to only those which I find essential (like sound driver software, video display driver software, wireless management software, and antivirus) I am able to dramatically reduce the time it takes for my computer to be ready for use after pushing the on/off button.
iCloud, as a singular exception within this system, does not play by the rules. I suspect that it is constantly checking for updates and upon updating or simply upon auto-running to perform this check, it resets or resestablishes information in the computer's registry, bypassing my GUI established setting and re-assigning itself as a startup program. For this reason I am now uninstalling iCloud from my computer.
I do not know if this was an intentional tactic by Apple to make their brand even more ubiquitous than it already is, or simply an oversight/something ignored as unimportant by the developers. Either way, I find it manipulative or at the very least, a poor business practice. Thanks for reading.

Thank you for this information. I am going to get rid of my  i Phone5c because of this policy of Apple!  Maybe they need sued to stop this policy!

  • Can I migrate rules from one account in Mail to another?

In mail I have 90 rules, many multi line criteria. I have just created a new  imap account linked to fastmail. My rules wont run because they seem to be linked to my first account, not imap. I tried just duplicating them and re-mapping to the new "move to" folder. Wouldn't run. Added a new criteria for the account but then all mail will go to that folder since 90 rules include that account in the rule. This would work if there was 2 levels of logic in the IF command but alas its only IF ANY/ALL.
I really don't want to re-write all my rules as some have maybe 10 lines of criteria in them. Any suggestions?

x86 plantform run arch linux system , have two network interface etn1 eth0 .eth1 connect to internet. eth0 connect to other terminals through switch. want use different iptables rules for different pppoe account .also want to know how to forbidden more than one terminals established pppoe link use same account at the same time .
Last edited by linuxsir (2013-09-26 06:48:01)

(You establish PPPoE sessions over the local network to the Arch machine? Which then routes the traffic?)
first question ,yes that is exactly what i am done. second question i also have a small  scripts on windows pc to solve routes traffic problem
    route -p delete 0.0.0.0
    route -p add 192.168.9.0 mask 255.255.255.0 192.168.9.1
    route -p add 0.0.0.0 mask 0.0.0.0 192.168.22.0
but after a while i found scripts is not necessary because windows always attempt to use PPPoE sessions as default internet connection local connection is also ok
and use  -i pppX in my iptables rules dose not  solve my problem , because same account start PPPoE session could be marked as ppp0 or ppp1. it is hard to identified which account start session.
