Rumors: there will be no 9.0.4!!!

today i heard from someone who should know that there will be no 9.0.4!
That is really bad news!
We where always said, do not worry, the Bug xxx will be fixed in 9.0.4 and we where waiting for that.
Now our release to customer is coming nearer and nearer and now we need to hope to get all critical BC4J / JClient / UIX Bugs and new features backported in 9.0.3.3 / .4 / .... First we have to TAR them in Metalink, then wait for reproduce in 9.0.5, then request a backport.
I do not think that the 9.0.5 Preview will be stable enough to deliver a production version of our application to our customers.
I am nearly at the state to throw some strong words about Oracle release and information politics here...

This rumor is false. Your person who should know, in short, doesn't.
As we have said here before, the JDeveloper 9.0.4 release has been delayed, waiting on the release of the OC4J 9.0.4 release.
In the meantime, we've made progress on getting our 9.0.5 preview in shape to release for OracleWorld in a couple of weeks.

In order to get all of the critical fixes that we previously have implemented in JDeveloper/BC4J 9.0.4, we have taken active steps in the past two weeks to backport all 9.0.4 BC4J fixes to the 9.0.3.3 maintenance release. This way, with the exception of some IDE-level performance enhancements that are specific to the JDeveloper 9.0.4 release, the 9.0.3.3 maintenance release (from a BC4J/JClient point of view) is as up to date on fixes as the 9.0.4 branch.
I do not think that the 9.0.5 Preview will be stable enough to deliver a production version of our application to our customers.
Your assumption is 100% correct. The JDeveloper 9.0.5 release (recently renamed by our Marketing folks to JDeveloper 10g) is a major new release with lots of new functionality. It will be a preview release to give users early access to experiment with and give us feedback on this new functionality.
We ran a second inhouse expert-user testing on 9.0.5 (a.k.a 10g) last week both in the UK and the US and got lots of great feedback from our early testers.
I am nearly at the state to throw some strong words about Oracle release and information politics here...

I still cannot understand how could Oracle management arrive to have a JDev 9.0.4 (which seems to need OC4J 9.0.4) completely incompatible with iAS 9.0.4.
The JDeveloper IDE has tight integration with OC4J to run as our embedded server for running and debugging without having to go through the deployment step.
Until receiving the bad news, I was quite sure that either:
1. JDev and iAS are independent, so that JDev 9.0.4 could still work on, say, iAS 9.0.3.
or
2. JDev and iAS are dependent, but developed under common management, with common deadlines, common specs, etc, etc.
BC4J is independent of OC4J releases, it is the IDE that is bound tightly to a particular OC4J release. This is what allowed us to recently backport all of the BC4J 9.0.4 fixes into 9.0.3.3 to get all of those fixes out to you independent of when the JDeveloper IDE 9.0.4 will be ready (as part of the overall Oracle Developer Suite 9.0.4 release).
Lately, I found on this forum the following:
JDeveloper 905 Preview has not been released yet. We hope to stage on OTN very close to the start of OracleWorld in San Francisco in the second week of September.
This is still the plan.
I assume it will be, in fact, just an internal demo version used only for commercial/marketing purposes at OracleWorld. Then, everybody (at Oracle) will forget about any promises...
It will not be a production release. It is a preview release of major new functionality. We value user input on it to make sure that we get it right for the production release.
Better hack BC4J up, fix any bugs you can, and switch to a more reliable development tools vendor ;((
I hope that the combination of our recent active efforts to backport all 9.0.4 BC4J fixes into the 9.0.3.3 maintenance release combined with the preview release of 9.0.5 at OracleWorld, will help to offset the understandable frustration that the shipping delay for the 9.0.4 release has caused for BC4J customers.

I have a Powermac G4...and it's ok but kinda slow...not updated. In otherwords I would like a new computer (and an iPod). I'm thinking about a refurbished 20" imac intel core duo. But I don't want to get it and then realize something new just came out the next day. I know It's a method of sales, but it would be nice to know what's next like a new OS, prosessor, computer, ect. You can find the port number by your instance number as follows:
There is a general format for the port number like you have mentioned.
For 00 instance the port number is 50000.
The general format for the port number goes like this:
<b>5<instance_no>00</b>
If your <b>instance number is 01</b> then the port number would be <b>50100</b>.
It depends on the installation type which you perform.
You can also change the instance number during the installation but normally you dont do this.
If you have many components or units installed on your system you may have more than one instance in that case it may go like this 00, 01, 02....accordingly port number will be 50000, 50100, 50200...resp.

my ipod app no longer works. Everytime I go to open the ipod app it stays open for a second and then shuts down. I am not able to get anything to play either through the standard ipod controls or the multitasking control panel. my iPhone 4 is no longer chargeable. Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033 supports Windows 8.1 and can be used with that version. The Mid 2011 iMac is compatible with Windows 8, so you should not have any problem by installing Windows 8.

Since the shuffle (except for the 1st gen shuffle) uses the same "port" (the headphones jack) for sound output and charging, there is no way to do both concurrently.
NOTE: You can charge and play at the same time on the old white 1st gen shuffle that looks like a USB flash drive. -
I am considering buying a Nikon D810 but I do not want to be waiting for ages for a plug in for it's RAW files on my Lightroom 4. Does anybody know if and when there will be a plug in? I presume the 8.5 plug in will not cover the cameras Raw file.
There is no plug-in for Lightroom 4 that would ever give you support for the new camera. Lightroom does not use Camera Raw. Camera Raw is a plug-in for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements. If you want support for your camera in Lightroom you will need to upgrade to Lightroom 5, and then wait for the 5.6 update which should be available within next few weeks (unless Lightroom 6 is introduced). In the meantime you can use the DNG converter (version 8.6 RC) to create DNG copies of your raw images that you would be able to open in Lightroom 4.
