Run 27" display from USB

I have an HP laptop running XP, has an old VGA out, Gefen have a VGA to USB adaptor does anyone know if you can drive the new 27" display from a USB input ?

Hi and welcome to Discussions,
no that wouldn't work.
The weak link is the VGA connection, which is an analog one.
For using the 27" iMac as a display the whole connection has to be digital.
Apple says only DisplayPort to DisplayPort, but this one http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-DVI-to-Mini-DisplayPort-Converter-p-17859.html can also use a DVI-output (but is restricted to 1280x720 due to missing Dual-Link support).
Nonetheless it works due to be fully digital.
Sorry

  • Running two displays from one DVI port...time to put my ADC down

    Hi Guys,
I have a G5 dual with a GeForce FX 5200 which has 1 each of DVI+ADC ports. Until recently the 17" Apple display has been my only monitor. As I have a recording/mix studio I need to move the G5 base unit far away from any recording as it makes quite a lot of noise. I have been unable to do this as I have been having trouble finding either a Dr Bott or Griffin ADC extension. I have been searching off and on for over a year with no success.
Recently I purchased a cheap reconditioned NEC monitor which I am running from the DVI port and am thinking perhaps now is the time to get rid of my apple display due to the ADC connection troubles.
Is it possible to run two monitors from the one DVI port? I need to run a mirrored image so that I have one monitor to my side so that I can do close editing work and then one further away behind my analogue mixing desk, they need to show exactly the same thing.
Will splitting the DVI port degrade signal or is there a way around this. I also want to get some long cables 6m+ so that I can place the base unit outside of the control room, will this be a problem?
I would really appreciate some help on this matter.
    Thanks,
    Iwan

Thanks BSteely, Would you happen to know of a box to recommend? I guess something like this would be more suitable:

  • Can I get Windows SURFACE to run Adobe Acrobat from usb?

I have the Windows SURFACE tablet running Windows RT that I have upgraded to 8.1 but it still isn't opening some (most) PDF files.
Q1. Is it possible to download the Adobe Acrobat files to a usb or micro SD (the Surface has both)?
Q2. how do I make the files run or useable if I can't install the software to the tablet?
    Please HELP!

The Adobe Reader Touch is set as the default.
I have tried different file sizes from 20KB to 2.4MB and there is no pattern.
I get a screen that shows a large Adobe logo with words beneath that say_
For the best experience, open this PDF portfolio in Acrobat X or Adobe Reader X, or later.
Obviously if I can not LOAD Software on to the tablet I am stuck.
Can you explain or provide a solution? Thank you.

  • Is it possible/what's the best way to run 3 displays from my MBP?

    Hi,
I just got a new desk with a raised platform. Currently, I have my TV up there for watching movies, etc, that's hooked into my display/thunderbolt port. I'd like to move my TV to the corner of my desk (to be viewable from the whole room), and put 2 monitors up where the TV was, to simulate more of a desktop experience. Is there a simple way to connect 3 displays like this?
Haven't gotten the monitors yet, and I will probably run my MBP with the lid closed.
    Thanks!

I've got the new model 15" MB Pro hooked up to the TripleHead2Go DP edition...
Only using 2 of the 3 outputs though.....  but they are running two Lenovo monitors @ 1920x1200 resolution....  i'd seriously run three of these, but the TripleHead can't take that resolution (rather it's the video card built into the MB)
the Matrox is seriously a great product, but only if the monitors *match*, different sized monitors won't work, work well anyways

  • Run adobe Air from USB stick

Hi. I am making this experiment, under a linux enrionment now.
I have copied a Adobe Air installation on the USB, mounted say in /media/usb with the runtime in /media/usb/air
    If I run:
    cd /media/usb/air
    ./Versions/1.0/Adobe\ AIR\ Application\ Installer -runtime /media/usb/
it start using that runtime. It works couse I have copied some .so that where symbolic links into the directory structure.
I can so choose a packaged .air application, installation starts, I click "install" I can choose folder to install. Default proposed folder is /opt. Whatever folder I choose it works only if I have air installed on my system. Otherwise fails with a "error #1".
I tried to change paths in configuration files in the installation on the USB key to point to /media/usb/air but nothing changed.
It seems that somewhere the installer or the air package still point to a default installation under /opt/Adobe AIR.
    Any advice?
    Thanks.

Yes, that path is hard-coded. The reason behind doing this is to make sure that an AIR application runs fine if runtime is installed on the system without worrying about its location.
However, it would be nice if you can post this thought at http://ideas.adobe.com with an appropriate use case.
    Thanks much!

  • Running two displays from MBP Retina under windows

I'm looking at purchasing a MBP Retina 13".  I have two external monitors that can accept HDMI and DVI (neither can do displayport).  Some software that I run requires me to sometimes boot into windows.  Under windows 7, can I output a DVI signal from each of my thunderbolt ports?  Do I just need to run two mini-displayport to DVI adapters?  Or is not that simple?  (both external monitors are 1900x1080)

    Hi,
    read the documentation:

and you will find multiple errors, you probably did.

  • Auto run projector file from usb key

    Hey guys
I was wondering if anyone has written an .inf file that will
automatically start a projector file when a usb key is inserted
    into the usb port.
    Thanks

i am not sure if you mean a .swf file or the .exe standalone
    file.
either way this should work. just replace the 'yourfile.exe'
with your exe/swf file. Hope this helps.

  • How do I run Win7 Startup Repair from USB to repair Bootcamp installation?

I messed up my bootcamp partition after resizing the OSX partition to give it more space so I found this fix - http://mourougan.com/2013/06/22/repairing-boot-camp-after-creating-new-partition /
The fix worked in that the windows partition now shows up on startup manager but when I try to load it the 'missing operating system' error message shows.
So I need to run Startup Repair from USB but when I try that from startup manager it just gives a black screen and blinking cursor, nothing happens from there...
Can anyone help with getting startup repair to load? any advice greatly appreciated.

  • 3 displays from a G5 (is installing 2 graphics cards an option?)

    Hi there,
I'm trying to set up 3 displays from my G5 with an ATI Radeon 9600 XT. Ideally two are to be mirrored and one independant. I have two 23" Cinema Displays and a cheap Philips 190CW on which I'm trying to mirror one of the Apples. I bought a 1 x 4 DVI splitter (on ebay from Taiwan) which doesn't seem to work.
My regular 2 monitor set-up which has worked perfectly is to run one Cinema Display from the ADC output on the graphics card via an ADC to DVI converter and the other from the DVI on the card. So I thought I could simply run the DVI output into this splitter and run the extra monitor from one of the outs as well as the second Cinema Display giving me the mirroring on two. But all I get is the ADC connected Cinema Display and one or the other of the DVI connected monitors - not a split.
The splitter is supposed to support 4 monitors at 1920 x 1200 but when I connect all three to the splitter it only gives me one!
    I have three questions:
    1) Is it just a a dodgy Splitter?
    2) If so can anyone recomend one that will work or a way to do what I want?
    3) Is it possible to install a second graphics card such as another ATI Radeon 9600 XT and run 3 displays from them?
I'd very much appreciate any suggestions.
    Cheers GR
    G5 2.5 Duel   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   G4 17" Powerbook 167

    Thanks very much.
That does answer my question but doesn't solve my problem...
It seems to be working on all three monitors in that configuration but it doesn't really do what I need in terms of the physical placement of the Apple Displays - I need them to stay together unmirrored and the Philips monitor a few metres away mirroring one of the Apples. (I'd love to get another 23" Apple but it's 5 x the $$$). How slow in everyday terms would it be with an extra graphics card? I'm doing this for a music recording set-up.
    Thanks again for your help.
    Cheers GR

  • Trouble opening Jar from USB stick on a Mac

    Hi all,
Has anyone else had any problems running Jar files from a USB stick on a Mac -- directly clicking on them in the finder?
    What I've found:
    - I cannot run any Jar file I try if it is on a USB stick and I double-click on the jar file in my Mac
    - I CAN run jar files from a CD by double-clicking
    - I CAN run jar files from USB sticks on Windows directly from the window
    - I CAN run jar files from a USB stick on a mac if I call "java -jar" directly from the terminal
I have tried running from USB sticks on several different Macs, and I've tried a number of different Jars that I've created over the years -- nothing works. The Java code isn't doing any path-based finding of files or anything like that.
Anyone else tried this? Are there any solutions?
    Thanks,
    Sam

    Try this:
With the stick plugged in, go to Finder->Applications->Utilities->Disk Utility.  From there, you should see your memory stick appear in a sidebar on the left.  Click on it, then click on the "erase" tab and follow the instructions.

  • 13" Mid 2012 MBP. Internal hdd not seen (again...) but runs fine from USB.

I bought my MBP in December, 2012. It ran wonderfully for the first three months. With no real warning whatsoever, I got the ? Folder at startup. I did my research and tried the troubleshooting I found here and on other sites.
What it boiled down to was that I could run the hdd externally via USB just fine, but it was not detected via the internal SATA connection. I tried swapping the hdd as well, but I didn't have any luck. So, I ran my brand new MBP via USB for about two months until I got back to the U.S. (working in Afghanistan) and took it to the local Apple Store.
They checked it out, swapped the hdd, and told me it was fixed. It seemed like it for about three or four months, but I was still wary. Sure enough, the hdd failed again. This time I couldn't get it to work from the USB though, so I beleived the hdd actually failed this time. I swapped the hdd, hoping that it was that simple (back in Afghanistan, so the store wasn't an option). It ran fine for about two months this time.
Now it is not detected internally again, but runs just fine via USB. I did try a different hdd that I had on hand, and that wasn't detected either. As you can imagine, I am not excited about running a year old MBP via USB. Unfortunately my initial year of coverage ran out last month.
Does anyone have some suggestions on how I should go forward with this? I've heard great things about Apple support, but I won't be back to the U.S. for at least a month. Should I bother talking to the local Apple Store when I get back? Deal directly with a different support avenue? Am I out of luck and stuck financing my own repairs? What is the best course of action here?

Assuming there is nothing wrong with the HDD, then there may be a faulty ribbon cable connecting the drive to the motherboard. Try replacing it.
I would also check that your RAM modules are well-seated with clean edge pins.

I have a late 2011 model MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion.  I love the AirPlay mirroring feature with Apple TV...BUT, how do I mirror with TVs that don't have Apple TV?  I used to run a cable from my mini display port to the HDMI input of a TV.  This feature seems to be lost in the Mountain Lion upgrade.  Did Apple feel that once Mountain Lion came out that EVERYONE would have Apple TV?  There are no settings in System Preferences/Display like there used to be...only for AirPlay Mirroring.

Running a cable to the HDMI port is still supported. (and still works on mine).
If the Arrangement tab in System Preferences > Displays isn't present then it doesn't recognize the physical connection.  Double check all cables.  If that doesn't work try a PRAM reset:

  • Run FOUR 2560 x 1440 displays from W530?

    Hi all,
I have a setup most folks don't see every day, but it serves me well.  I find myself in need of updating it, though.
    CURRENT setup:
W530 laptop with 32GB and the NVidia Quadro K2000M card
    Sitting in a 4338 dock
Four (4) HP 24" LCD displays, each running at 1920x1200
Displays 1 & 2 are connected directly to the dock using the two DVI ports on it
    Displays 3 & 4 are connected to a Targus USB 3.0 adapter.
    What I want:
Four of these (or something similar) displays at the full 2560 x 1440 resolution
So...  I guess the first question is...  Can this be done with this laptop and this dock?  If so, the second question is...  What do I need?  I have scoured these forums and Google and found a great deal of info that is close, but nothing I can find has made me think anyone else is running 4 displays at this resolution.  I know my current Targus adapter won't support that resolution.  Help!
If the W530 won't do this, would a W540?  And would a W540 work with this dock?
I would greatly appreciate any help.
    Chris
PS.  I don't game.  This is purely for the office.  I just need a lotta screen real estate.  I will watch a video every now and then, but this is 99.9% for typical office use.

  • Run XP / Vista from a USB flash memory on my Macbook Air

    Hello!
Does anyone know if it is possible to boot and run XP directly from a USB stick?
I am fairly new to Mac. So far I like it a lot however, due to my job I need to run some things in XP or Vista. Instead of "polluting" my new Macbook Air with a partition with XP I thought it would be neat to run XP from a USB stick. They are cheap and quite large nowadays but I really have no clue if it is doable technically. It might be too slow or there might be other issues that I don't know of.
Can anyone shed some light or point in the right direction.
All help will be highly appreciated.
    A

I would guess that performance wouldn't be so good trying to run XP from an external hard drive, but I haven't tried it nor do I know if it is possible. I'm in the same boat with needing to run some XP programs.
I've been using VMware Fusion and it works well. However, the MBA runs hot and battery life suffers when just running VMware without much going on in the XP machine. You can probably put the XP VM on a usb key and have VMware run it from there. As for the software running in a VM rather than native, the programs run and the speed is tolerable but I don't mistake it for my ThinkPad. Depending on how much resources your software needs, the MBA may not be a good fit.

  • OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive can run from usb stick?

OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive can run from usb stick[no install]?

Your questions are easily answered by means of a web search, which you can do as well as I can. You can order a Lion installer on a USB stick. I don't know how big it is, and it doesn't matter, because all you can do with that stick is install Lion, which is what you don't seem to want. If you have a Mac and want to be able to run Lion from an external storage device, the capacity of the device has to be at least 7 GB.

I hope you understand that if you buy the Lion USB installer with the intention of installing onto a PC, or running Lion on a PC without installing, you'll be wasting your money. It won't work.
