Run 6i form in a telnet session on a 32 bit Windows environment

Hi,
We have the following environment: 8.1.7 database, 9iDS Forms 6i (6.0.8.13.0) included. This is installed on 32 bit windows environment. We have wireless RF barcode scanners with TCP/IP connection. So they can connect to Unix box or a Windows telnet session. As we have Windows system we can connect this equipments to Windows through telnet session.
I heard and read in some topics that Forms 6i can run in character mode environment. But I didn't find any solution.
We would like to run forms as we can run svrmgrl for example on a telnet session.
My question is that it is possible to run 6i forms on charcater mode environment (telnet session) ? If so, what we need to do in the development or running phase (command line parameters for example).
Thanks in advance,
Attila

Forms 6i can run in Character mode in telnet - but this only applies to Unix ports of the product - they have an f60run executable as well as the Gui f60runm and the Web f60runw runtimes.
Windows only has GUI and Web versions.

While researching this topic more I have more questions than answers. It looks like some people use Managed Servers, do I need one for running a form? When I go to mydomain -> Environment -> Servers all I see is AdminServer running on port 7001.
I have read that in order for me to create an application and then a servlet for forms I need to work with files like default.env, formsweb.cfg, ftrace.cfg and so on; however default.env file exists only under the ClassicDomain, where I am using mydomain. Do I need to do anything about it?

  • Grey Window - Does not open after Running a Form

    Hello!
    I have the following problem:
I just installed Oracle 9i-Developer Suite.
After installing it, I wanted to run a form (also made in Forms 9i).
So, I selected one form , connected to the database and Run it.
The first time, a dialog appeared informing me i need to instal Jinitiator1.3.1.9.
So, I installed JInitiator and Run the form again.
The result is that it does not open. It seems to be blocked.A grey window apppears and that is all. After some minutes (about 30 minutes after), 2 error messages appear:
1.FRM-92101 : A Failure has occured on the Server. you will need to reestablish your session.
    2.FRM-92050 : Failed to connect to the Server. /forms 90/190servlet -1
Please tell me what to do next to run this form (or any other form).
If an aplication is runned, and it uses Jinitiator 1.3.1.13 everything seems to be ok.

If you are getting the applet background (usually gray or tan colored), it means the http listener (oc4j) is likely already running. This is confirmed by the request to install jinitiator. If the listener was not running, neither of these events would occur.
Before going to far, I have to ask.... do you know how old 9i is? Also, "9i" could possibly be one of two versions 9iR1 = Forms 6.0.8 and 9iR2 = Forms 9.0.2. Both of these versions were desupported long ago. This is important to know for several reasons.
    1. Even if you actually have a valid support contract with Oracle, they will not be able to offer much assistance as Support is not able to report new bugs against these versions and in some cases, can no longer refer you to documentation as some of it has already been obsoleted.
    2. Because these versions are so old, they will not likely run on newer operating systems. For example if you are using Vista, Win7, Win2008, etc, Jinitiator will not run on these platforms. Since neither of these Forms versions was certified for use with any of the JRE versions that were supported on these newer operating systems, the only solution that makes sense would be to upgrade the Forms version.
Apparently, you partially see the problem as you indicated that it works when using JInit 1.3.1.13. Even this version is very old. In general, Jinitiator is no longer supported either, but the latest and last version is 1.3.1.30. So you can see that the latest version is many releases newer than .13. If you are not using one of the platforms I mentioned above, you may have more luck with a newer jinit version. You can download 1.3.1.30 from MyOracleSupport using Patch ID 7410076. If you do not have access to MOS, you may be temporarily out of luck as these files are currently not available on OTN although may return once the recent migration has been completed.
    Regarding the errors you noted:
FRM-92101 generally indicates that the runtime (ifweb90.exe) was not able to start or crashed after it was started.
FRM-92050 generally means there was a problem with the url or the related session ID or header info. This can occur if your machine is not properly configured in DNS, as well as many other possible causes. Assuming you are using the Forms Builder to run your forms, try changing the url from the host name to "localhost". In other words:
    http://localhost:<port number>/forms90/f90servlet
Regardless, upgrading will be you first best action.

  • Placing a telnet session within a java swing program

I was wondering if there was a way to maybe anchor a telnet session into a JPanel within a Java Swing program. Most of my users end up running a telnet session while using my Swing Program and I was hoping to find a way to bring the two together. If this is possible could someone point me in the right direction (like an online resource) that might show me how to do this.

You could use sockets and a TextArea and build your own simple telnet application.

Good help will be appreciated. Thank in advance.
    kanish

    Kanish,
Lets start with a few of the basics, shall we. What JVM are you using (Jinit or Sun JRE and the version)? Based on the error you posted, I can infer that you are using Forms 10.1.2.0? Are you running a custom configuration in the formsweb.cfg and default.env? This could be the cause if you have modified the CLASSPATH setting in the default.env excluding core .jar files.
Typically, the FRM-92101 error is caused by a Java error; either a .jar is not found or invalid or not compatible with JVM, etc.
Have you tried clearing your Java Cache to check for a corrupt .jar?
    Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

  • Unable to run the form in another Widow

    Hi Form,
I have configured the Oracle 10gDS on WindowsXP Professional to work with Oracle 9i Database. When I am executing a form instead of opening in a seperate Browser window, it is opening in the same browser windows. What are all the requisite changes I should make in formsweb.cfg.
    Help is very much appreciated.

    Dear Tony and Tomas,
    my problem is :
when launching oracle forms it is not displayed in a seperate java applet window.
here is the formsweb.cfg file of my 10g OC4J server.
    # $Id: formsweb.cfg 15-apr-2005.13:17:30 pkuhn Exp $
    # formsweb.cfg defines parameter values used by the FormsServlet (frmservlet)
    # This section defines the Default settings. Any of them may be overridden in the
    # following Named Configuration sections. If they are not overridden, then the
    # values here will be used.
    # The default settings comprise two types of parameters: System parameters,
    # which cannot be overridden in the URL, and User Parameters, which can.
    # Parameters which are not marked as System parameters are User parameters.
    # SYSTEM PARAMETERS
    # These have fixed names and give information required by the Forms
    # Servlet in order to function. They cannot be specified in the URL query
    # string. But they can be overridden in a named configuration (see below).
    # Some parameters specify file names: if the full path is not given,
    # they are assumed to be in the same directory as this file. If a path
    # is given, then it should be a physical path, not a URL.
    # USER PARAMETERS
    # These match variables (e.g. %form%) in the baseHTML file. Their values
    # may be overridden by specifying them in the URL query string
    # (e.g. "http://myhost.mydomain.com/forms/frmservlet?form=myform&width=700")
    # or by overriding them in a specific, named configuration (see below)

  • Java sniffer for a TELNET session

    Hi
I need to interpret test results of a telnet session using a java sniffer..........how do I do this.
    Thx
    Frederd

I need to interpret test results of a telnet session
using a java sniffer..........how do I do this. You'll need to use two computers to do this, since Telnet uses a "well known port" to accept connections (look at www.iana.org for port number). Since only one process can hold a port, you'll need to run your telnetd on one machine, and have clients connect to another where your sniffer owns that port.
Once you've set this up, the sniffer itself is a simple pass-through portal: it accepts a request, makes a corresponding connection to the actual telnetd, then simply passes bytes from one connection to the other (logging them in the middle).

  • [SOLVED] Is It Possible to Create a Telnet Session in URXVT?

    Greetings-
Just curious if anyone can tell me how to create a telnet session via rxvt. I saw a thread on here where someone said that it's possible, but I can't find any documentation on it. Just wanted to try it out to connect to my switch which I normally connect to from a tera term emulator.
    Thanks guys!

  • Determine if it is a telnet session via ABAP

Is there a way in ABAP to determine if the user is logged in through a telnet session?
I want to ignore a command to run an ALV GRID if the user is logged in througha telnet session because the ALV GRID causes an error for telnet.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Instead of determining if the user is coming in via telnet, lets determine if the SAPgui is present, and if it is, then only show the ALV. You can use this function module .
    DATA: lv_result TYPE c.
    CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_IS_AVAILABLE'
      IMPORTING
        return = lv_result.
    IF lv_result = 'X'.
    * Gui is present!!!
    ENDIF.

It sounds like you are using a web version of Oracle Forms (9i, 10g, 11g) but it would helpful to know the exact release. More than likely, you simply need to start the OC4J (9i or 10g) or WebLogic Server (WLS) if you are using Forms 11g. It would also be helpful to know your workstation OS and Java versions.
