Run ARD administrer from a remote computer

Sorry if this has been answered previously; searching with terms like remote and administrator doesn't restrict many responses.
I have installed ARD on one of my Leopard Servers and I would like run it from my desktop computer as I do the server applications. Is this possible or do I have to be sitting at the server run ARD? I have checked through the Administrators Guide but can't find anything about this but it seem like a natural thing to want to do
Thanks for any assistance.
Bill

If you don't need to run ARD from your workstation, you could have just the single copy of ARD on the server and take control of that via 10.5 screen sharing (that should still work with the ARD admin app running on the server, though I've never tried it) or VNC. Then you wouldn't need two copies of ARD. If you want ARD on your workstation as well, though, then you will need to purchase a second copy of ARD if you don't have two copies now.

  • Can I access Firefox and Thunderbird from a remote computer while on vacation? if so how?

going on vacation for 4 to 5 weeks. need to access my Firefox and Thunderbird from a remote computer in Fla. can I do that and if so how?

    Hi linkrj61,
You could either use remote desktop to log on to your home computer or you could look at portableapps.com. This this will allow you to have versions of Firefox and Thunderbird the run from a USB stick so everything you do is tracked on the USB stick rather than the computer.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Is it possible to administer the license server from a remote computer?

NI VLM and the license server service are running on a license server machine. Company policy prevents me from having admin access to the machine (which seems necessary in order to run NI VLM). Is it possible to administer the license server service from a remote machine? i.e., can I install NI VLM on a machine that is not the license server, but connect to and manage the license server service over the network? I can access the license server via RDP, but without admin access, I can't get very far.
Is there any other way to manage the VLM without admin access to the machine it is running on?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hey Chris,
I haven't heard of a case where someone was able to administer licenses via VLM without having administrator access. Is there any possibility of getting administrator access on the license server machine, even if it's through some sort of temporary account?

  • Run batch file on a remote computer

I am looking for syntax so that I can run a batch file that is on my computer and I want to run it on a remote computer. I am thinking I can do this with psexec but have not been able to figure out the correct syntax.

    psexec.exe -s \\namepc -u yourusername -p yourpassword cmd /k c:\blabla\Install.bat
Install.bat must be on some folder on remote pc and I think that is only posible way.
U can change \\namepc with @blabla.txt file with computers list if you want to run that bat file on more computers.
Your account in this example must have admin rights on remote computer.

  • How do I send a command to run a program on a remote computer

I am trying to use the TCP vi's to send a command to a remote computer on our local area network, so that a program runs on that remote computer. How do I do this, if possible?

Set one server VI on the remote computer to LISTEN (create listener / wait on listener) continuously for one port. When it receive something, READ the string and see if it is the one that you are expecting. On your computer, set a client VI, which first CONNECT (open connection) to the remote computer (using remote's IP and port number) and then it SENDs a string containing the command.
    Hope it helps.
p.s.: Uppercase words name the Vis that you should use for this application.

  • Can I print my collages or access them as a pdf from a remote computer?

(I'm a teacher and I want maximise its usefulness.)

The best way to send to a remote computer to have it printed out, is open the collage then in the upper right click on the white square with the arrow icon. Select "Share via" as you will see, there is multiple options to choose depending on what you have installed on your device. It will send the file as a .jpg. I tested using via email, dropbox, bluetooth as all methods worked great. Then you can open .jpg file and print it as you wish. I did not see .pdf as an option, but if you have Adobe Acrobat you can open the file in Acrobat, then save as pdf file.
Hope this helps answer your question
    Thanks

  • How do i run a vi on a remote computer in a network

on one computer(using Labview 6i)i have a vi that acquires data from "lab-pc+" board.now i want to run this vi on another computer(using labview 6i) in the network, but this computer does not have the "lab-pc+" board.how do i do this
    thanks shri

VI server will allow you to execute a VI that resides on a remote machine from a LV application that is local.
The only restrictions are fire-walls and speed.
I have used this technique to allow supervisor personal to monitor and control factory applications from there laptop.
Look into "VI Server" and "call by reference".
FYI: This list (LabVIEW Real-Time) is set aside for questions involving the RT version of LV. You will get a larger audience if you post any follow-up question to the LV general list.

  • Getting spool error when trying to use a network printer from a remote computer.

I have 2 HP deskjet printers attached to my computer.  One is a D4260 and the 2nd is an F4280 all in one.  I would like both of these printers to be available on our wireless network so that my girlfriend can use the printers from her laptop. The D4260 is working just fine but when I try to print to the all in one it looks as if it printed on her computer but I get a spooling error on mine and no printing.

Go to hp.com.au, top right corner select support & drivers
select software & driver download type in your printer name HP Deskjet F4280
then select your operating system-step 1
on step 2 select utility diagnostic tools, select HP Print Diagnostic Utility
run the software, select your printer, then diagnose...then select fix all
this software automatically detects spooler errors & fix them
just follow the instructions from the HP Print Diagnostic Utility
    good luck.

  • Connecting from a remote computer / name resolution issues

My work has two SQL Server 2005 databases, one installed on a Windows XP machine (running some equipment) and one installed on a Windows 7 machine (backing up the files from the XP instance).  Both computers run only the default instance.  I had
replication set up and functioning (data being created on the XP maching was being replicated to the Win 7 machine) for the last three weeks in July.  I recently noticed that the replication is no longer working (the files were no longer being copied),
and when I tried to check the status I got an error about named pipes, or, if I disabled named pipes "tcp provider error 0 no such host is known".
At the time I found the replication problem, I could connect to both databases through SSMS on the Windows 7 machine.  On the XP machine, I could use SSMS to browse to the Win 7 instance but SSMS would not connect to the Win 7 instance by name (same
errors about no such host known); the connection does go through by IP address.  I can ping from the Win 7 machine to the XP machine both by IP address and by name.  I could ping from the XP machine to the Win 7 machine by IP address but NOT by name.
I tried running the workgroup wizard on the XP machine, thinking this might help with the name resolution problem.  In the wizard, I changed the workgroup name to a new name.  I changed the workgroup name on the Win 7 machine to match.
This change did not affect the ping status - I can still ping by both name and IP address from the Win 7 machine, and still only the IP address works from the XP machine.  However, now SSMS on the Win 7 machine no longer sees the XP machine!  Trying
to log in with either the machine name and the IP address, I now get a "timeout expired" message, and the SSMS login browser does not show the XP machine on the network.
Any pointers on where to look for the cause of this problem would be very welcome.

There was some problem (bug?) with the remote connections flag on the Win 7 server.  Someone had posted in the comments to a technet article that unchecking the remote connections box, restarting the server, then re-checking it helped them.  I
tried it, and that fixed the problem with the Win 7 machine being unable to see the XP machine.
Olaf's suggestion about the Hosts file fixed the problem with the XP machine having to use the IP address - now it can connect by name as well.
Now I just have left the problem of a broken subscription to my replication, but that's a separate issue so I'll consider this thread closed.  Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions.

  • Run a LV-app on remote computer

    Hi all,
I am trying to setup a LabVIEW-App running as a server in our LAN. I could add this as a service in the autostart of the respective machine. I would, however, prefer to have a method for starting the respective app from a different LV (vi or exe) from elsewhere in the LAN. Meaning the prospective clients can start the server if it is not yet running.
Does anyone have an idea? Have searched the examples and the internet for no results.
    TIA!
    Greetings from Germany!

This question comes up a lot.  And I always reccomend PsTools from SysInternals:
         http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896649.aspx
They are a free set of command line utilities.  One of the utilities is PsExec which can be used to launch EXEs on remote machines.
NOTE:  Be aware that setting up your remote app as an "NT Service" is a bit more complex.  If you do actually manage to set it up as a "service", you would actually use a different tool (PsService) to launch a service on a remote machine.  Either one will do the job.

  • Problems with accessing Cisco Unity 4.2 Build 4.2(1) from a remote computer via a web browser

    Hi,
In my "Cisco Unity 4.2 Build 4.2(1)" installation, I can log-in to the cunity1 server (the server with the Cisco Unity 4.2.(1) installed), and on the server, I can open the web-page: http://cunity1/Web/SA/Default.htm, this page opens the page: http://cunity1/Web/SA/FrameASP/StartFrame.asp?CookieCheck=1.
This page I use to administrate the voicemails.
When I try to open this web page on my client computer (Internet Explorer 7.0), I get the following error message:
    http://cunity1/Web/SA/FrameASP/StartFrame.asp?CookieCheck=1
    Missing live session flag.
For some reason, /web/global.asa did not fire.
Check that this file is present.
This problem could also be related to DNS issues.
    Cannot continue.
If I use a refresh on this page, I get this:
    Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01a8'
    Object required: '[undefined]'
    /Web/Common/include/SaConstInc.asp, line 9
    http://cunity1/Web/SA/Default.htm
    Server.CreateObject(AvSaLocalization.AvSaLocalization.1) failed.
This is most likely an error with a DLL, probably AvSaLocalizationSvr.dll or perhaps AvSaLocaleInfoSvr.dll.
Check that these files are present, and registered with REGSVR32.
Also be sure that the appropriate MsgStoreRes.dll file is present.
    Cannot continue.
    (From: Global.asa: hr=0x80070005)
If I use a refresh on this page, I get this:
    error '80004005'
    /Web/Common/include/SaLocalizationInc.asp, line 35
What do I need to do, before I can open the web page on my client computer, and administrate the voicemails?
    Kind regards,
    Carl-Marius

Have you tried registering the DLLs mentioned? Can you ping cunity1? Does it resolve to the correct IP address? Can you access the Unity SA by using the IP address instead of the hostname? See the following link for SA Web troubleshooting steps.

If I understand you correctly you will input the encryption key via the linsys monitor software on your wireless computer.
open the linsys monitor on your computer
highlight the network name that you want to connect to
    click edit
and just follow the steps and input the info of which one will be the key

the remote client doesn't know how to get to hagar1, simplest fix is add the entry to the tnsnames.ora file, run a tnsping hagar1 to find the location of the client oracle_home/network/admin/tnsnames.ora file and add:
    hagar1 =
       (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS_LIST =
          (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = xe_hostIP_or_name )(PORT = 1521))
        (CONNECT_DATA =
          (SID = XE)
