Run audio from microphone to speakers?

I have an external USB microphone for my MacBook, and I want to know how I can make the audio from the microphone play immediately through the speakers instead of being recorded. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try LineIn.
Cheers.

  • Running audio from an external drive question

    HI there,
i am waiting the delivery of a high quality firewiredrive to run my audio tracks for my g5 imac.
I am a beginner at logic and i have logic express7.0 with logic pro 8 on its way.
In fact am a beginner at computer music. For the last 5 years i have been recording on an akai dps16 so this is a big learning curve right now, thought i have already made my 1st c.d. on logic express. Logic is awesome.
    so
i am trying to get my head around running audio from an external drive as everyone recommends and instead of waiting for the new firewire drive to arrive i thought i'll learn this using my 500gig maxtor usb2.0 drive.
i have sussed out the record path business and all seems well. I have created 24 tracks of audio and i can see them in the audio folder in my logic project in my maxtor drive. So (i think) i have learned how to run audio from the maxtor, but what seems a bit odd to me is that when i run the exact same song from the internal drive ( I copied it from the maxtor drive) there doesnt seem to be any increase in the load of the system memory or the cpu as seen on activity monitor or logics audio performance meter.
I would have expected the identical song running from the internal drive to be more taxing on the computer.
Maybe i am doing something wrong but i dont think so.
Any help would be greatfully appreciated
    Tom

The problem with internal drive is that is accessed by the OS and by Logic.
With a powerful Mac 24 tracks recorded at 16 bits and a sampling rate of 44100Khz are not n issue but increasing these values or the number of tracks the problem will appear and you will see the disk I/O meter going up very fast.
At that point you will begin to experiment audio hiccups before and a song stop later.
The same problem appears with drivers that have a reduced band (like USB 2.0) while firewire ones are faster, more stable and don't load the CPU.
    cheers

  • No audio from built-out speakers on my Mac book pro

no audio from built-out speakers on my Macbook pro, but with external headphones or speakers it does work. I see a red light inside the audio line-out port when you disconnect devices. What can I do?

    The internal switch is stuck.
Insert the earphone jack several times.
Blow real hard into the audio output ort.
Take a toothpick and jiggle inside the audio output port.
If no success, visit the Apple store genius bar.
    Ciao.

  • Audio from Microphone Repeats - No External Speakers

This one is a little odd.
We are getting an echoing - but not from open mics /
speakers. It's like the audio is being re-routed into other audio
streams and we have no idea why. I'm working through the soundmax
    drivers now.
I'm unable to get any consistent points to determine what is
happening, but it is not speakers / open mics.
Has anyone else had an echoing - more of a repeating - from
    microphones?
TIA, I've found nothing from my web searches yet.
    -SR

The sound / audio set up for the computers with this issue had the recording properties enabled within the audio settings - effectively re-broadcasting all of the other User's microphones within the session.

  • H7000 Bluetooth headset - No audio from microphone in Windows 8

Recently I bought a new HP H7000 Bluetooth headset. After I successfully paired it with my laptop (HP EliteBook 8470p, running Windows 8 and the Broadcom Bluetooth driver downloaded from Broadcom's site), I can hear audio from the headphones, but the microphone part doesn't seem to be functioning, it doesn't pick up a signal no matter how loud I speak.
When trying the same headset on the same laptop running Windows 7 SP1, the microphone is working perfectly.
In Windows 8, the Headset Microphone is Enabled in the Sound settings' Recording devices, and is set as Default Device. The Internal Microphone Array device (the laptop's built-in mic) is picking up audio no problem, so that part of Windows 8 is functioning properly. So there seems to be no issue with any of the settings, I went them through several times.
It's just the H7000 headset's mic under Windows 8, that is having the problem.
Anyone met this scenario, or even have a fix?

I managed to narrow it down to the Broadcom Bluetooth chipset driver in Windows 8.
Finally I ended up disabling it, and buying a USB Bluetooth micro-dongle with an Atheros chipset. With this, the headset works fine.
It is still ridiculous, to solve such a problem with additional investment, but this is not HP's fault it turned out.
I'll try to contact Broadcom's customer service, and keep an eye open for any Win8 driver updates on their support website.

  • Playing sound from microphone on speakers (through buffer) with constant delay

    Hi,
I'm looking for an example of code that samples signal from microphone and
plays it on speakers. I need a solution that has a resonably constant delay on
different platforms (PC, android, iphone). Delay around 1-2 s is ok for me, and I don't
mind if it varies everytime the application starts.
I tried using SampleDataEvent.SAMPLE_DATA event on Sound and Microphpne classess.
One event would put data into buffer the other would read data.
But it seems impossible to provide constant delay, either the delay grows constantly or
it gets lower to the point where I have less than 2048 samples to put out and Sound class stops
    generating SampleDataEvent.SAMPLE_DATA events.
I wan't to process each incoming frame so using setLoopBack(true) is not an option.
ps This is more a problem on Android devices than on PC. Althought when I start to resize application
window on PC delay starts to grow also.
    Please help.

Most recording applications have a passthrough option so you can listen as you record. It is off by default to avoid feedback if you are using a microphone.

  • No audio from built in speakers

I have a HP  G60-530US notebook... My problem is no audio from speakers. I do have sound from head set when pluged in..

Sounds like it might be something inserted that was broken off inside. Was probably done trying to free up the digital output inside the jack when no audio first appeared. Don't think it would be part of the jack that hasn't retracted, but if it were, you'd be facing a repair -- not sure how expensive, but could be expensive enough. If something broke off, can't think of an easy way to get it out. Maybe some double stick tape or adhesive on the round tip of something: insert, make contact and pull. But don't think you'd get enough traction. Might end up leaving the adhesive or tape inside, which wouldn't look great when you send it back. Probably just send it back.

  • TS1574 no audio from built-in speakers and red light visible through the headphone port

My 15" late 2006 MBP has just stopped producing sound from the internal speakers and for the first time there is a red light visible inside the headpbone output port. Apple support says contact support but since I'm a long time out of even my extended warranty I wondered if anyone had a fix-it suggestion I might try myself?

Try to plug the headphone into and out of the headphone socket couple of times
to flip the microswitch in the socket.
Red light visible means sound output is stuck in digital mode.

  • Jumpy audio from microphone in Audacity and Jitsi

If I record from the microphone in Audacity without simultaneous playback of other tracks, the recording is fine. If I try to record while playing back a track, the recording is jumpy and clipped. The same thing happens when I try to use voice chat in Jitsi. The chat partner hears unintelligible, jumpy audio. By jumpy I mean that it sounds like the distance to the microphone is being quickly and randomly changed while the microphone is also being randomly turned on and off with high frequency.
This occurs on two separate systems, both of which are using default ALSA without Jack or PulseAudio. I have not created an asoundrc file. CPU usage is very low in some cases (e.g. 2-5% on a single core). I also have ample RAM if that matters.
I have searched for a solution but I suspect that I am not using the right terms. I cannot believe that my modern Arch systems would be unable to handle something that I could do on a budget system 10 years ago.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    *bump*
Jitsi 2 is out and I would really like to be able to use it. Surely I am not the only one to run into issue with simultaneous audio input and output.
Do I really need something like Pulseaudio  or Jack? (I haven't tried yet because I just can't believe that this is impossible with Alsa... it should "just work").

  • HP Pavillion dv5-1235dx laptop - No audio from built in speakers of recently purchased laptop

I purchased my laptop (HP Pavillion dv5-1235dx laptop) from best buy on Saturday, May 9th, less then a week ago. Yesterday the audio/sound stopped working completely - from the built-in speakers.  I can hear ALL sound just fine from headphones.  Only the internal speakers aren't funcioning.  I did online troubleshooting, and also chatted with a technician, and I still have the same problem.  I ran all updates, the status on the sound driver says it is funcioning properly.  Even the little fluctuating green bars (on the volume control) SHOW that sound is coming out, but still unless I have headphones in, no sound comes out.  The HP monitering software DID pop up and say there were critical errors and the computer needed to be updated yesterday, but I don't know if that was related because once I did all the updates, the audio still had the same problem.  Please help me out.
    Thanks,
    Kalli

If it is less then a week, just return it to bestbuy. You may have a loose connection in speaker jack.
Have you try to use recovery DVD? try to install it to the factory setting.
If it does not work, definitely you have a hardware problem.

  • How to run audio from hdtv thru sb audigy 2

I just purchased a hdtv that has an optical cable output. I would like to run the hdtv audio thru my sb audigy 2 zs soundcard to take advantage of the surround sound. I've read that the audigy 2 zs does not have an optical input, but am unclear which adapter i need to buy to get the setup to work.. any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Tweety

    tweety2,
The front panel upgrade has an optical SPDIF connector. There is no digital-in on the rear bracket of the A2ZS, so an optical-to-digital adapter won't help. Optical-to-ministereo could plug into LineIn. I couldn't find one. That would only give you stereo, which I think defeats your aim for surround sound. (You could simulate surround sound with the CMSS3D option, but it's not true surround sound.)Message Edited by Katman on 0-22-20072:57 PM

  • Compress Audio from Microphone

Hi, I am developing an app that records voice from mic and needs to save it in the disk then send it via email. I got it no problem. I get the bytes and tranform it to wav format using the WAVWriter class.
But the wav file is HUGE. As I said, I need to send it via Email. A 10 seconds wav file is almos 1MB =/. I researched and I found a class that transforms WAV to MP3: http://code.google.com/p/flash-kikko/
Thats worked, but the resulting file is relatively big. it encodes to 128kb mp3 and I cant change the bitrate. And 128 just to a voice sound is much much more than I need. The resulting file is a bit larger than I would like.
But the BIG BIG problem is that, it takes almost 15 seconds to encode a 10 second wav to MP3 in a galaxy S or a galaxy Tab device.
It takes TOO long to encode and the resulting file is really big compared to the voice recorder that is avaliable in android devices. It records the voice, it takes 0 seconds to encode to the final file. and the file is MUCH smaller than the one I am getting.
Is there a way to compress the microphone data I have, to get a smaller file, like the voice recorder in a efficient way android devices do?
'Is there a way for my Air app to use the android's voice recorder to record the sound for my application?
    Thank you very much.

    Hi Daniel,
I've gone through the Kikko route and found the encoding time unacceptable as well. The best I could do was reduce my sampling rate to 22k which is acceptable for voice (but not fantastic) and compress the bytearray before I stored it and decompress when I use the recording. The bytearray compression is almost trivial but hey I guess every little bit helps if you are storing a lot of files.
Another method you could use is uploading the wav files to a server and encoding and emailing them there. Upload time is the only issue with that.
I spent months researching this problem and unfortunately there isn't a great solution out there. =(
Please update this thread if you do end up finding something.
Edit: I forgot about  Native Extensions that just got released with Adobe Air 3. That should open up a lot more solutions as you could call an mp3 encoder n Objective-C which should have far superior speed. I'll probably be looking into this solution in a few weeks but let me know if you figure something out.
