Run Away/Locked Computer - Need Help

I have a vexing problem that I do not understand how to fix. I am not much of a computer expert; so, I would really appreciate help from one of you experts.
PROBLEM: Whenever I make any changes to iCal my iMac fan soon starts to run very loudly and the iMac soon virtually locks up.
DIAGNOSTICS: To better understand what is occurring, I used the Activity Monitor. When I make a change in iCal two programs appear on the Activity Monitor. First iCalExternalSync appears and shortly thereafter SyncServer appears.
When iCalExternalSync appears it captures over 70% of the CPU, grabs about 120 MB of real memory, and the fan begins running VERY loudly. After an additional few minutes, SyncServer appears. Shortly thereafter iCalExternalSync reduces CPU usage to less than 5% (but keeps the 120 MB of real memory) and SyncServer now takes about 80% of the CPU and about 130 MB of memory. If I allow the process to progress this far, the fan is Very loud and the iMac has become unresponsive.
TEMPORARY FIX: I can return the iMac to operational status by killing iCalExternalSync and SyncServer via the Quit Process command in the Activity Monitor.
HELP REQUESTED: Given the information provided, I would appreciate any suggestions about how to fix this problem.

You don't mention what you are actually syncing with.
Are you using iSync to sync with a locally connected third-party mobile phone or PDA?
Or are you using *MobileMe Sync* to sync to the MobileMe "cloud" and/or another Mac/iPhone/iPod touch?

    Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
    iOS: Wrong passcode results in red disabled screen

    I really need help trying to show when members have logged in.  This is my second post and and the code that I was given, didn't work and now I can't get anyone to tell me what is wrong with it.  Here is the code and error message:

    You need the previous owners password to unlock the phone. If you can't get that, then your phone is useless.
    Nobody, not even Apple, can unlock it for you.

  • Final Step away from Windoze (Need help) [easily SOLVED]

    I am preparing to take my final step away from windows OS, as the more I learn about Linux, the more I detest the majority of my hard drive being dedicated to a monopolus (if that's a word), closed monster. However there is one thing that I need, Starcraft and TF2 (team fortress 2). In an i686 installation this would be very easy... install wine. This will not work, as I am posting in Arch64, you must have guessed that I have a 64 bit system.

    hmm...
    Look at the wine homepage and see what they say. They usually have some really good pointers, per game. Just search the AppDB for the game you wanna play. simple as that!
    You can also probably find something about FAM there. (I use gamin and it works fine)
    Also know that if you and some friends sometimes put up LANs to play against eachother that can be cumbersome with a linux computer, due to the fact that normal home networks don't have ddns on their dhcp network. That sure have messed up things for me a couple of times. Windows has some default programs that kinda solves that, but it has failed for me aswell from time to time.
    Dunno if there's more reasons yet why home networks sometimes fucks up since i'm still kinda in the proccess of learning. Just wanted to save you some trouble and let you know that having a windows partition (on say 20-30gb) can be a neat backup sometimes.

  • First time to build computer - Need help

    Hello, I just finished putting my computer together.  It was my first time and I think everything went pretty well.  I just finished putting Windows XP on it.  However, I have a few questions/problems still:
    1) Whenever I turn the computer on it still has a screen with Platinum on it saying tab to post | del to enter bios.  Is this normal?
    2) After that screen goes away, it stops loading and says "Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter SETUP" and I have to make a selection.
    3) After I press F1 to continue it says Press<Ctrl+S> or F4 to enter Raid Utility, but I dont have any raid stuff.  If i leave it alone, then it enters into XP
    4) After XP loads, if I try to goto my computer I get a blue screen.  It says MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION on it towards the top.  Towards the bottom it says
    *** STOP: 0x00000009C (0x00000 and some more numbers).  How do I fix this.  I don't know if this helps, but I have a 200GB harddrive that was brand new, and whenever I booted with XP CD it said it only saw 131,000+ MB.  I said to format anyway, hope that didn't screw me up.
    Thanks for the help.

    1.  It's a normal default setting for the bios screen to show the logo.  I personally don't like it, so I turned it off.  You can access it in the "Advanced BIOS" page of the bios.
    2.  Something must be in error to have the system stop booting.  The bios only stops on errors.  I wouldn't be overly concerned yet though.  Default settings on the board make it stop on all errors.  It should give you a reason why it's stopping so look at the screen when it stops and tells you to hit F1.  That should give you an idea of what needs fixing.
    3.  Just turn off the RAID function.  It's in the "Integrated Peripherals" screen. 
    4.  Could be any number of reasons, checking your memory would be a good first step.  As to Windows only seeing it as 131GB, that's probably because you installed with an older version of Windows XP, before SP1.  Back then it couldn't see drives bigger then around 139GB.  Install SP2 and you shouldn't have a problem.  Just make sure that your BIOS sees it as 186GB.  That's what 200GB drives usually show up as.

  • N97 phone insta locking up -- need help please

    after weeks of problem free, my phone has decieded to lock up instantly on turning on.
    I can not turn it off via any normal method, and must remove battrey. Pluggin in the power charger / usb cable does not light the charge light up, but turns it on
    The power button does the same (when off after removing battrey)
    upon turning on, the screen goes white and the nokia writing comes up
    in the past, this screen would be following up with the nokia animation of touching hands around 10 seconds later
    its been sat here 10 minutes now incase I missed something, with no luck.
    it is totally unresponsive, no audio or tacticle feedback, and the only way to stop it is take out battrey.
    any advice please

    Hi, only two solutions I can suggest, though they may not be possible, is first try connectiong to computer with ovi suit, and try re-install firmware. Or try hard reset with key combo

  • Transferring Ringtones From iPhone To New Computer--Need Help!

    I recently purchaced a new computer. I was able to get my music purchased on my phone onto my new computer, however I can't get my ringtones! Does anyone know why this is happening? How can I get my ringtones to show up so that I can sync my phone? I'm in desparate need of help!

    I am assuming you found the physical files of the ringtones on your old computer and moved them to your new computer. After doing so ensure you are logged into the iTunes store so your account info is known. Then it should be as simple as dragging them into your library.

    If you cannot remember the passcode, you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and resync the data from the device (or restore from a backup).
    If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

    hello, i have no computer (yet), my ipod video 30gb is synced to my cousins old g3 which is now in another part of the world....i am using my works emac and would like to be able to use it now to transfer photos and podcasts for my work, i would like to keep the songs i have on it if possible......this is issue one....i have another issue which is when i look at my ipod on this emac, i see videos that my cousin put on for my daughter with his computer, but they don't show up on my ipod when it's solo....i put some photos on it today...they show up on this emac as being on the ipod but they don't show up on my ipod menu when it is solo....kind thanks for you help....michael

    After reviewing your post, the iPod is not recognized in iTunes. A frustrating situation to be sure. You haven't mentioned what OS the computer you are using uses. You can choose what article to use either OS X or Windows from this quoted section.
