I have a current Flex based application and my boss want it to transfer to html/css based.
Is it possible to do that easily? I mean if there is a plug-in or tool can do this conversion quicker. Already google but could not find one.
What do you think the level of effort estimate to make this conversion?

If the app is huge and your boss wants HTML/CSS, better suggest he gets his story straight with the accountant as to why he is spending all that money degrading a perfectly good application.
There are no automated tools, just hard work ahead. Think of the overtime.

How to create date in flex based on different timezone?

Hi,
I am getting time from J2EE layer to flex as "Fri Sep 28 05:16:37 EDT 2012". This J2ee layer is deployed on Websphere Application Server 5.1 on Unix. But when I instantiate in new Date() in ActionScript 3.0, its throwing me invalid date error.
So I corrected it as "Fri Sep 28 05:16:37 GMT -0400 2012" (a format flex excepts) and instantiated with new Date(), when I try to print the date value using toString() method, results I get is in IST (where I am running flex web app), so this is completly invalid. How can I preserve timezone in flex?
BTW we are using Adobe Flex 3

Is there a way to have an iPad run only 1 app at a time?

I am a tech support person and teachers are asking me if we can have a students iPad run only one app at a time. For instance, a group of students in biology would be allowed to run only the app for their biology book.
Students have gotten so distracted during classtime with iMessage, web browsing, videos and games that it becomes virtually impossible to keep them on task in the classroom.
I am aware of adding profiles to the devices, but this profile would only be for the biology class. It would then have to be removed or deactivated upon leaving the class.

You can restrict iPads running iOS 6 to a single app via Guided Access:

but that requires reconfiguration of the iPads whenever you want to set it up or deactivate or change it. There may be a mobile device management (MDM) system that would allow you to push out such changes "on the fly" but I can't say with certainty. Someone else here or in the iPad in the Enterprise forum may know.
Otherwise it may be necessary to implement an administrative solution such as banning use of iPads in class or enforcing consequences should a student be using the iPad for inappropriate functions.

There is an iTunes on the idevices, just a Store effectvily.
There is an iTunes on a PC and Mac, which is the Library handler, and connects to the iDevices for sync and backup.
The Apps that you download for iDevices are downloaded with "Appstore" on that iDevice itself, or downloaded on the Mac or PC with iTunes for transferring to the iDevice.
That apps will only run on the iDevice.
For Window s7 and Windows 8 there has just been released a new iTunes version 11.

Connection SQLite with Flex Web Based App??

Hi! I have a problem, I create a Flex Web Based App in Flash Builder 4 and I need connect that app with my SQLite database... but I can't found the method that permit me create that connection.
My question is... exist some method or some kind of code with I can do the connection?

SQLLite is only available in AIR apps.
The preferred method for a web-app is to use some kind service architecture to expose your data. I wouldn't be able to offer any specific advise without knowing more about your deployment environment.

Why ipad safari freezes while other web-based apps work ok?

I tried resetting history and cookies, this fixed problem for awhile, but lasted matbe 30 minutes before safari froze again ie no progress on progress/url bar.
All other web based apps work fine including other non-apple browser, newspaper downlod/update etc. Safari on ipad4 works ok on same wifi network, desktop imac on ethernet connection works ok too. Help suggestions appreciated.

Have you tried quitting the Safari app and launching it again? How about restarting and resetting the iPad?
Restart or reset iPad
If something isn’t working right, try restarting iPad, forcing an app to quit, or resetting iPad.
Restart iPad. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPad. To turn iPad back on, hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
iPad may be low on power. Connect iPad to the USB power adapter to charge. See Charge and monitor the battery.
Force an app to quit. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPad for a few seconds until a red slider appears, then hold down the Home button until the app closes.
If you can’t turn off iPad or if the problem continues, you may need to reset iPad. Do this only if you’re unable to restart iPad.
Reset iPad. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can reset the word dictionary, network settings, home screen layout, and location warnings. You can also erase all of your content and settings.

No, the applications only run on Windows and Mac OS X.
Only the Touch apps PS Touch and Ideas will run on the iPad.

Running Opera, flickr, teashark and web based apps...

I am unable to run web based applications like opera mini flickr cellity Teashark and others.
Whereas opera,flickr are some inbuilt apps but still unable to access internet through them.
Internet accessing is fine via default browser but none of the web browsers like Opera mini, Teashark,etc are not working.
Its not the problem of Network since on my other mobiles, apps run fine.
Please reply with the solution for the problem so that i can access web via web based Java Apps.

ok so here is step by step procedure:
Menu->Settings->Configuration->Personal config. sett->Options->Add New->Access Point:
now what you hav to do here is dat basically you need to know the access point of the setting you want to use key in the access point there. user name and password are nt needed usually.
save that access point and go back to the configuration page nw in 'preferred access pt.' set dat access point which you created just nw.
this process worked for me mayb this works for you all too. (i've presumed dat you all have got your internet services activated from your provider)
if you don't knw the name of your access point then your operator's customer care centre could be of some help..

If you can hide the status bar, it would be an option inside the app. I have one or two apps where that is an option but in most apps it is not.

Convert HTML/javascript AIR app to flex-based AIR app?

I've already built an AIR app using HTML/javascript that I
would like to monetize.
I would like to use O2app's E-Commerce framework, which right
now only supports Flex-created AIR apps.
My question: Is there a simple way to "convert" an
HTML/javascript AIR app to Flex 3 format? I'd rather not have to
rebuild the app from scratch in Flex 3 if I don't have to. :)

Hi,
There's no simple way to convert an HTML AIR app to flex.
But it is possible to create HTML Root windows from a Flex
AIR App. By root window, I mean the same kind of window that is
launched when you launch an HTML AIR App.
For more info, look at the HTMLLoader.createRootWindow()
call. (This will be available from a Flex AIR app as well)

Wanting to Embed gothicCentury into our Flex based web app

First, please excuse my ignorance as I don't have a lot of expereience with Emedding fonts into a web application.
I am looking to embed a Gothic Century font into our Flex based application that will be used by our customers via web. We also my possible use it as a Air application.
If I want to do this, how do I go about it in the flex world. The font is available in our Designer's tools but we need to be able to have it accessiable in Flex legally.

It is understood that SWF and its content is intended to be rendered client-side. However, we were wondering if anyone has had any success with wrapping flash-player (such as Adobe AIR) around a SWF in such a way that the player could be called by a script server-side to generate graphs/images, which are then saved to disk and returned via a regular web service.
I gave embedding the image on the HTML page, but the specific use we are most interested in is embedding the static thematic map into a report in the Word document format. Since much of our content can already be accessed interactively using a browser and a flash-plugin, we are investigating methods of leveraging our SWFs to generate images server-side for the purposes of automated report generation.

Resolved - iTunes cannot sync apps to iPad "ipadName" because the apps installed on the iPad could not be determined.

Current setup
- Dell Destop running Windows XP SP3
- iTunes 10.5 as of 11/02/2011
- iPad 2 iOS 5.0 as of 11/02/2011
I recently got the error message iTunes cannot sync apps to iPad "ipadName" because the apps installed on the iPad could not be determined. I had already upgrade the iPad to iOS 5.0 several weeks ago and had no issues. I had also sync'f many many times in the past with no issues.
I was able to sync on Sunday and then "All of a sudden", I could not sync on Monday. Tried closing out all my apps on the iPad, that didn't help. Tried restarted my desktop and the iPad and then sync, that didn't help. Tried logging into my AppleID account via iTunes and iPad to see if that would clear up anything in the background, that didn't help. I also couldn't really find anything on the web that helped.
Come Monday, I decided to just delete the apps from iPad manually and go about it that way. When I tried to delete the app, it did not give me the (x) option to delete. Weird? Did a quick search online and someone suggested that the Restriction to delete apps was OFF. DING, DING, that was it. Checked my settings and sure nough, I had made that change late on Sunday. Enabled the ability to delte my apps and was able to delete my apps. Then I thought, would this also fix my sync issue?
Crossed my fingers and attempted to sync my iPad in iTunes and like Emeril Says "Bam"! I was able to sync my iPad once again without having to reset my iPad, etc.
I hope this helps many of you save several hours. I also think that Apple should add additional verbage to that message such as check that you are not restricting the deletion of apps or something like that.

Based on an online post, I tried the following and it worked for me:
1. Windows 7: Control panel > Device Manager
2. Right click my PC's name > "scan for hardware changes"
3. Restart iTunes
4. Restart IPad
5. Connect IPad
6. Still I got the same error
7. Restart iTunes
8. Restart IPad
9. Connect IPad
10. It worked and I was able to sync the apps!!
Prior to this I had removed few apps, not sure that was a trigger.
System: IPad 1, IOS 5.x

I have a Strange problem with airport Express and airtunes
From my iPad 4.2.1 running Remote app for iPad if i search for an artist, like Gary Moore, it shows the artist name, but when i Press the name it doesnt display the songs with this artist, it says no songs found.
But if i use the same app on both my iPhone 4 and my iPod touch, and do the same search and Press the artist name, it shows All the songs that i have with this artist
Both the iPad and the iPhone connects to the same airtunes library, on the same machine with iTunes 10.1?
Does anybody have any ideas of what is wrong
I have tried to reinstall the app on the iPad, but that diednt work, i have tried to delete the library on the iPad with no luck

I know this is an old question, but I had the same problem and found the solution somewhere else and thought I'd post it here as this thread comes up when googling for the answer.
It appears as though any songs without an "Album" don't appear. In iTunes select all songs without an album, right click and select "Get Info" and give them an Album name (e.g. "Unknown" or "Singles"). This might also apply to songs without other tags.
