Run in the taskbar

Hi!
Is it possible to let the Lync Client run on the taskbar after computer start up instead of appearing on the screen?
Thanks.

To add, this is also the AutoOpenMainWindowWhenStartup registry key.
You could push it via GPO if you need.
Richard Brynteson has a writeup of this and other registry keys:

• Process is Running on the Taskbar instead of coming on the Forground

Hi Team,
Recently i have used the ProcesStartInfo Class to launch one exe through the UI. It is opening currently in the Debug mode but when i am trying from the UI. The process is opening  the Exe in the Taskbar. It should run the Exe in the Forground so anybody
can see on the Monitor not on the Taskbar.
Thanks in Advance.

• Why are there 26 firefox.exe processes running when the taskbar shows none?

Win 7 professional, Firefox 25.0.1. If I shut down Firefox and restart it I often get an error that a copy is already running. Checking the Task Manager shows many firefox.exe processes (26 this morning) even though the application tab shows none.

Hello Axis,
Can you please confirm if this happens each time you are using Firefox? Also, the cache size wouldn't have a big bearing on this issue happening. Can you please try if this issue happens when you are running Firefox in safe-mode (instructions below). if it doesn't then we can narrow the issue to a plugin / addon.

Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Hi NicoMan,
According to your description ,we seem to suffer a performance issue here.
Have you tried to open the task manager to check the system performance  ? Is there any specific process occupied many system resources ?Will the issue occur only with the specific applications ?
We can try to restart the Windows Explorer process to have a check.
If it only occurred with the spefcific two applications ,we can try to end the other application processes manually from the task manager to have a check .
If this is caused by the specific application ,we may need to look for help from the third party support considering they are all the third party applications .
Best regards

• The taskbar disappears when I open firefox. It just statred doing this. Any suggestions for how to fix it? I'm running on XP. Thank you in advance.

When it is just my desktop on the screen, the taskbar is at the bottom as usual. Now when I open Firefox, the taskbar disappears. This just started yesterday. I'm running Windows XP on this laptop. Any suggestions on how to correct the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have you got Firefox's menubar displaying if so turn that off using
* View -> Toolbars -> [] Menu Bar
That may restore the Orange Firefox Button. Post back as to whether that works.
I do not use Vista, but it seems odd that only Firefox should make the Vista taskbar disappear. You would do better to post your own question in a new thread.

• Firefox icon in the Taskbar will not start on the first click, sometimes needing to click 2 or 3 times for it to open (and this is after a fresh reboot with Firefox not running in Task Manager.

Upon a fresh reboot the Firefox icon in the Taskbar will not work on the first click, sometimes it will not work at all and I need to go to Start-> then click the Firefox icon in the Start menu. Why is it that the icon won't start up on the first click?

Same issue - however firefox will open but I can not click on only of my tool bar shortcuts - the writing on the google age is greyed out so I can not click on anything. Still no resolution? I have deleted the folders and re-installed - it will open and then locks and it will not work????

• Not getting notifications in the taskbar anymore

Hey,
i just tried a lot of stuff and it still doesn't work so i'll ask here.
Status:
my Skype showed Notifications in the taskbar and played a sound when i got a new message till 3 or 4 days ago.
I didn't change anything in Skype and i'm not aware that i changed anything on my pc since then.
EDIT: Additionally i just found out, i dont have Notification or message counter for new messages besides the contact name/picture in the skype window. I don't hear the sound when skype is the active window and i am in a different conversation and someone messages me. (NO MESSAGE NO SOUND NOTIFICATION ???). Only when im in the conversation already i hear the sound, and thats because i ticked that option in the skype sound menu to test.
My sound settings are on, my skype settings for incoming messages are on. If someone calls me i get the ring sound. In the taskbar theres no orange indicator anymore for new messages.
What I already did:
- installed over my current installation
- did a clean install (deleted appdata folder)
- restarted pc
- unpined and pined the program to the taskbar, tried without pinning it
- ran as administrator and without it
running Windows 7 on newest updates, drivers are updated, rest of the pc runs fine, skype version 6.21.0.104, if you need additional infos tell me
ATM I'm rather clueless where the problem is, it kinda just appeared. It's really annoying if i don't hear nor see when i have new messages.
any help is appreciated

Solved!
Go to Solution.

Given the number of users with notification problems, and always the same remedy "click on user, go to Conversation menu, edit Notification Settings" I was rather thinking of a small Skype gui design flaw here. Why isn't the Notification Settings entry listed in the -context- menu? (right click on user)
Until now I've always been thinking that the top menu bar Notification Settings entry was some -global- setting, for all users at once.
Thx,
Andre

• Firefox will not open from the start menu or the taskbar, but WILL open when called from Windows Live Messenger

This started a couple weeks ago, but doesn't seem to coincide with any other installations or reconfigurations, so I'm having trouble getting at the root cause.
The first time I run Firefox after installing, it runs fine (complete with a full list of add-ons.) If I then close FF and try to start it from the task bar or start menu, nothing happens. I've tried starting in safe mode (shift+FF), but get the same result. I've restored FF to all the default settings, disabled all my plugins and add ons, but no change.
The really odd part is that if I click the 'Inbox' link in my Windows Live Messenger, FF opens perfectly. This made me think that it was my homepage causing the issue, but A: I can go to that page without problems once FF has started from WLM, and B: even if I use the FF default homepage or google.com, I get the same problem. Furthermore, if I restart FF from within FF (like after I disable/enable an add-on), it will also start properly.
No crash report is generated by FF when it fails to load, but Windows catches the problem in it's event log. I've pasted the contents of that record at the bottom in the hopes that someone can take a stab at what's wrong.
Finally, I've already run through the online crash help, but everything is either not related (since FF will start if called indirectly) or has already been prevented (absolutely no add-ons are running at the moment.)

I have exactly the same issue. After FF upgraded on its own to version 5, it won't open from start menu, taskbar, desktop icon, or even by pressing firefox.exe in program files directory. It does so by pressing a link at msn messenger, inside Outlook etc.
Disabling all addons, didn't help. Moreover, I can't start FF in safe mode or start profile manager (Start > Run> firefox.exe -ProfileManager).

• Firefox will not display (It will not "open", although it looks like it's open in the taskbar)

I'm not sure if it's coincidence that it updated itself to 37.0, but it must be...
When I click on Firefox both on Taskbar and on Desktop icon, it opens on the task bar, when I highlight the task bar it even shows that Firefox loaded Google (my default webpage)... But it never come up on screen.
I have:
- Windows 8.0 (not 8.1 and I do not intend on upgrading since it functions better than 8.1)
- Noscript add-on/plugin, possibly more
- up-to-date drivers
I have tried:
- Uninstalling and reinstalling newest version (37.0)
- Uninstalling 37.0 and Installing from Firefox website archive 36.0
- Restarted my computer after installs
- disabling maintenance service on install
I have "allow"-ed the install windows popup both times and it doesn't help.
The first time it tries to open it does go to the yellow background on taskbar of opened programs you haven't used yet...
However, when I click on it nothing comes on screen. When I highlight it still shows my homepage there. I cannot do the firefox refresh thing because I can't get it to even display. I do NOT get any error messages on my computer, which is more bizarre. I've updated and ran windows defender complete scan and found nothing (but that's not surprising for "defender", lol).
Once it opens the first time, even opening another page opens nothing. Then it freezes and won't close, even if you right click and try to close all windows... I have to use Task Manager to close it by End task...
I don't know how to open the troubleshooter "xpi" thing, sorry....
And not to whine, but why is it so broken all of a sudden XD... And more importantly, how in the world can I get it back working??? I'm using this terrible chrome I was lucky enough to just have on my computer already, which I only had for viewing one single thing a long time ago and forgot I even had Chrome... And as much as I hate using chrome, it's actually working flawlessly for me right now... So please any help will be much appreciated...

Sometimes the Firefox window gets "off screen" somehow. You often can force it to appear on the screen by right-clicking the little thumbnail image above the Taskbar and choosing Maximize. Does that work?
One possible cause for this is that the file which stores window sizes and positions has become corrupted.
Method #1: If you can get a maximized window:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
* (menu bar) File > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old as well.
Start Firefox back up again. Do windows display normally again?
Method #2: If you cannot get a Firefox window at all:
Shut down Firefox by right-clicking the taskbar icon > Close All Windows.
Using the Run dialog (windows key + R) or the Start menu search bar (or in Windows 8 maybe the charms bar search bar?) type or paste the following and press Enter to drill down to the Profiles folder:
%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
Here you may see one folder -- in which case, double-click into that -- or more than one folder -- in which case, double-click into what looks like the most recently updated.
Scroll down and rename xulstore.json to something like xulstore.old. If you see a file named localstore.rdf, rename that one to localstore.old as well.
Start Firefox back up again. Do windows display normally again?

• When closing Firefox 23 with the taskbar, the dialog wndow is obscured behind it and I can't select close unless I keep clicking and it appears in front. Fix?

Got Firefox 23 forced on me while doing reinstall. First off the icon on desktop and start menu shows a white box around the Firefox icon, this by design?
Also When i click to close Firefox using the taskbar tab it partially hides behind the taskbar and I am unable to click it. Sometimes it appears in front as all the other programs do/should but rarely. V22 didn't have this problem. Is this also a feature or bug and how can I downgrade to the far superior version 22?

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.
You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:
* Microsoft Safety Scanner
* MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware

* ESET Online Scanner
Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

• Icons in the taskbar-too many

I've have become familiar with java to the point where i know that when i run a java supported program it appears in the taskbar and when i close that program the icon goes away. well my icons have not been going away and not only that i have as many as 5 or 6 in there. I don't know if there is something running and I don't know how to get rid of them. Help please.

You are not the only one. At least 2 other threads have been started regarding this same topic, one of them by me.
As of now there appears to be no way to remove the speech bubble or replace the default icons. I've looked into skinning, but not deeply as I'd rather stay as stock as possible; I removed every one of the preinstalled apps except Kindle, Docs2Go and File Management.
I would like to see stock icons pushed in an update. Better yet would be stock ICS icons if they decide to push that.
Also, the speech bubble in the middle of the navigation bar is kind of annoying. I could live without that.

• How do I get the mini-player to appear in the taskbar

I've had this running many times in the taskbar so when I minimize iTunes, it shows a little bar in the taskbar with pause, play, song, duration, etc. but each time I upgrade iTunes, I lose it and can't remember how to get it back. I've tried everythding in preferences but still can't seem to manage it. Thanks for your help.

Look on the Launchpad icon in your Dock. Or switch over to the Purchases side in App Store. If it's downloading it will take a while since Mountain Lion is over 4 GBs.

Hi guys,
I have a program that runs in the background (a daemon). It refers to a database and make some calculations. If it's not activated, the database will lack some critical information. For this propose, I eliminated the closing option from the user (it's a gui); so if the user wants to close it he must terminated the application from the 'window task manager'.
Question: how can I place this process as a small icon next to the clock on the lower right side? I don't want the process to be shown on the taskbar.
Thanks for any idea
Peter

The JDesktop Integration Components (JDIC) project aims to make Java technology-based applications ("Java applications") first-class citizens of current desktop platforms without sacrificing platform independence.
This demo application demonstrates functionality in the JDIC APIs org.jdesktop.jdic.tray package.
It creates a tray icon on the desktop (in the System Tray Area for Windows platforms, or in the Notification Area for Unix platforms), with a caption (text), an animated icon, and an associated Swing menu containing icons. It also has a tooltip displayed when the mouse hovers over the tray icon.
