Run iWeb '06 and iWeb '08 on same startup drive

Anyone else have any experience with keeping iWeb '06 and iWeb '08 on the same startup drive, to be used independently?
My iWeb '06 is loaded with dozens (and dozens) of thirty-party templates that cannot be imported into iWeb '08 (ie 11Mystics, etc). Meantime, I have sites originally designed in iWeb '06 that are up and running that I'm responsible for updating.
I'm gradually 1-by-1 rebuilding each of these sites in DreamWeaver - but those constructed in iWeb '06 need attention from time-to-time, and I've no time to rebuild them from scratch.
Opening any of these .sites files in iWeb '08 causes major problems, I won't attempt again. And besides, that eliminates access to the older templates that allow adding in pages like Photos, Movies, Blogs, etc. And if I'm going to take the time to rebuild, I'm going to do that in Dreamweaver.
I'd love to move ahead and utilize the possibilities for new design options in iWeb '08, but the sites built in '06 need more or less constant care & feeding.
Anyone else manage to make this work successfully?
I've considered the obvious options, such as, A. Don't; or B. Boot iWeb '06 from an external startup drive - this won't work for reasons I won't outline here or C. Compress each in disk image and de-compress each time - every time I do this, the installed templates in iWeb '06 disappear.
Thanks - suggestions welcome from those who have tried this...

Roddy -
Thanks for responding! Absolutely I agree - not for the "sane and responsible." Which lets me off the hook. I've tried the alternatives you suggested - I have quite a few Macs running here - but I do most of the heavy lifting (graphics-wise) on a G5, so that's where I'd far prefer doing web design.
I have two internal HDs and two externals, but can't get Adobe to authorize another install on the CS3 suite - and the back n forth between Photoshop, Bridge, Fireworks, Dreamweaver and iWeb is near constant.
I had set this up on the MacBook Pro but it's driven me nuts trying to get files coordinated back and forth (at this point, I have over 20 active .Domains files I'm updating and keeping track of.) I guess my main concern was understanding what happens to the com.apple.iWeb.plist in User>Library>Preferences. I don't know what else they have in common to get mucked up (other than accidentally launching the wrong app, or clicking on an older .Domains file instead of the newer app.
Pretty soon all the older sites will have been rebuilt in Dreamweaver using CSS and I can forget all about this craziness.
And now with Leopard arriving in a week this could get really interesting.
Thanks, Roddy!

  • IWeb 08 AND iWeb 09???

I have a number of sites built on iWeb 08 on my main computer. I like iWeb 09 which is on my macBook. If I purchase iWeb 09 for my main computer, can I run BOTH iWeb 08 and iWeb 09 or will the latter update and overwrite the files I have already created?

08 wil become 09. Unless you save a copy first.
iWeb 08 will not open iWeb 09 files.

  • Error Running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time

    Hello,
We are having trouble running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time on certain user's machines. Here are the specifics:
The user opens Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer. The user then opens Discoverer in another Internet Explorer windows and receives the following error: Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe abnormal program termination
As a work around, I installed Firefox on those user's machines. These users run Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer and run Discoverer in FireFox. This has solved the problem in 99% of the cases. However, there is one user who is having FireFox using Discoverer freeze when running Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer.
Can anyone provide any insight on how I can solve these conflict issues so users can run Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Carlos

    Hi Michael,
I agree with you completely. It is reccommended to run 10g on a separate physical server unless you have sufficient resources to run on the same server (which even most large clients do not) Even then, I would recommend a separate server.
I should have put my comment in context :-)
a.) I was only stating that it was possible
    and
b.) whether 10g is installed on the same physical server or separate should not affect the client browser crashing issue that was posted.
I do have an install with EBS11i and Discoverer 10g on the same physical server and it works fine (this is sandbox/ TEST). Most of my large customers have 10g installed on multiple physical servers due to load balancing (capacity).
I do work for Oracle. I try to help out on the forum when I can, but it is hit or miss :-(
I would be glad to discuss anything privately.
As for the issue at hand, I can reproduce the problem and here is what is occuring.
I have EBS 11i configured with Jiniator 1.3.24
I have Discoverer 10g configured with Sun Java plugin 1.4.2_06
    1. If you launch EBS 11i apps and a form with MS IE, then the browser launches the form using Jiniator JRE 1.3.xx (whatever you have configured in AutoConfig for EBS11i)
    2. Next, the user navigates to EBS 11i SSWA and launches a Discoverer workbook.
What occurs is a child IEXPLORE.exe process is spawned from the parent IEXPLORE.exe process and Discoveer Plus is launched. The parent iexplore.exe process will be attached to the Jiniator JVM. Now if Discoverer is configured with
    a.) Sun Java Plugin or
b.)a version of Jinitiator that is a different version from what EBS 11i is configured with
then you may get this conflict.
It really is an MS IE/JRE conflict with Jinitiator and Sun Java Plugi and the way the broswers attaches to the JVM (IMHO) as this behaviour could be reproduced with other non-oracle java applets.
You can workaround the situation by:
    a. configure EBS11i and Discoverer to use the same version of Jiniator 1.3.xx
    b. educate the users to open one MS IE browser to connect to EBS11i and then open a second MS IE browser to login to EBS11i SSWA or Discoverer 10g Plus directly to launch workbooks. They need to to this by clicking on the icon and not using File >> New browser. Clicking on the icon will spawn a new parent iexplore.exe process that can attach to a second/different JVM. File >> New Window will spawan a child of the parent.
    c. As you did use two browser versions. MS IE for EBS11 connection and FireFox for Disocverer 10g connection.
I would choose optoin b, so that you can use Sun Java Plugin with Discoverer.
Open to any comments. I hope that helps you workaround the problem. The ideal solution is to have EBS 11i use/cerified with the 1.4 or 1.5 JRE. In poking around, I see there is a related post to this on one of Oracle's EBS 11i Product Managers Blog.

  • Running Reports 6i and 9i at the same time

I was wondering what the issues were with running Reports 6i and 9i at the same time. We are planning on up grading at a client, and I heard that there are some problems with doing this. I was thinking that installing them in different ORACLE_HOME's would help keep problems to a minimum. At home I have Reports 6i and 9i running, and I have not seen any problems.

We suggest you install 6i and 9i at different oracle home. There are no known issue about running 6i and 9i at the same time.

  • IWeb'08 and iWeb Enhancer

After installing iWeb'08, HTML code that I had inserted to my site and made functional with iWeb Enhancer now doesn't work. Has anyone discovered a work around? I contacted and posted onto iWeb Enhancer, but I haven't heard anything yet.
I'm considering uninstalling iWeb'08 and reinstalling iWeb'06. Has anyone done that yet? Does anyone know how to do that? Thanks.

This is the one gripe I don't have with iWeb08. HTML snippets work very well. Too bad for the guy who made iWeb enhancer.
Just copy the chunk of code from your rounded rectangle that iWeb enhancer needed to convert into working html and paste that into the HTML snippets.
Still doesn't change the fact that the iWeb 08 beta that we bought is terrible.
    Yeah. I'm PO'd

  • Difference between Iweb 08 and Iweb 09

    Hello,
I have Iweb 08 and havent really done anything to make a website, but Im getting interested in it. I plan on getting Ilife 09 when Snow Leopard comes out. I know they dont have anything to do with each other, but my bday is around that time, so thats what Im asking for for my bday.
Anyway, what is the main difference between the two Iwebs? If I make a website on 08 will it be able to work and be edited with 09 without a problem? or should I just wait until I get 09 to make my website. Its no big deal. I can just play and learn on 08 and when I get 09 and I do a permanent one.

Click here for information. iWeb 09 can use sites created by iWeb 08.

  • Can I run Photoshop CS4 and CS1 on the same Mac?

I've been building pages for a website on my old Mac with Photoshop CS1 then slicing and optimising them in ImageReady before uploading to the site I'm building in Dreamweaver where I put in the body text.
Recently I upgraded to a newer Mac running Snow Leopard and CS4 where I discovered that ImageReady is now considered a thing of the past. I read that Fireworks and Dreamweaver are now the most sophisticated way to go but after a month perservering with fireworks I'm finding it a very clunky, complicated way to operate. I don't like using it and I hate the prospect of starting over to re-build my existing site.
So... will my CS1 version of Photoshop and Imageready run successfully on Snow Leopard and, if so, can I have two versions of one program loaded on my Mac at once? The aim is to be able to use CS1 for Imageready and revert to CS4 for my usual work.

  • Can I run Photoshop CS4 and CS5 on the same system?

I read somewhere a zillion years ago (right?) that you coould run CS4 and CS5 on the same system but at the time I wasn't even considering it.
Run on the same system - not ness to run at the same time
Or should I install it on a seperate drive (bootable) and go that route. What has everyone found to work and/or not work?
Thanks in advance for your help
    BJ

Yes, you can run CS4 an CS5 on the same computer.  They install in different folders and don't get in each other's way.  As a matter of fact, you will find many posts in this forum from the experts recommending to keep CS4 (or an earlier version) when installing CS5.  This way, there is no danger of losing any older plug-ins you may have that aren't compatible to CS5.
When I installed PS CS5 I had problems with my scanner driver.  Instead of spending loads of time fixing that problem, I just use PS CS4 when I want to spend an afternoon scanning things. I'm not recommending that "lazy man's" solution, but it is an example of how CS4 and CS5 can be used on the same system.

  • How can I run both Leopard and Panther on the same machine?

    Hi,
I currently have a Powermac G5 with Leopard running nicely on it. I have 2 hard disks.
What I would like to do is install OS X 10.3 on the machine so that I can switch between the environments - please can someone explain how to do this?
I'm assuming I need to partition one of the hard drives and have done with the second hard disk (not the startup disk), but I'm nervous about what to do from there and really don't want to mess up what I've already got - please help!!
    Many thanks.

if you have two hard drives the easiest might be to install panther on the second hard drive. this way you don't have top partition anything. make sure the drive is properly formatted it should be formatted mac os extended journaled with APM partition scheme. then just boot from the Panther install disk and install panther on the second drive. note that this will only work if your mac originally came with panther. did it?
to switch between installs you can change the startup disk in system preferences->startup disk. then reboot. alternatively, reboot normally and hold option at the chime. this will boot you into startup disk manager where you can choose which drive to boot from.

  • How can i run Lion, SL and Bootcamp on the same disk?

    Hi everyone,
I have an i7 Imac with Lion preinstalled so first of all i installed windows with bootcamp
and then for many reason i had to make a new partition with Snow Leopard using target disk mode from a mbp.
Now the problem is that i can't see anymore my bootcamp partition at the startup disk (when i press alt after the bong).
Even if i try to change startup disk from system preferences it says that the disk is not bootable.
I tryed to make the bootcamp partition active using rdisk fromt he terminal with no succes :/
I hope you guys can help me
    Thank you

  • Leopard and Lion on the same hard drive

So I do need tu run PowerPC Apps sometimes too and I have installed Leopard on the same hard drive (partitioned of course) as Lion is, because I dont have other hard drives.
Anyway, I do have a little problem and it's about the Spotlight. Whenever I search for something from Lion it also searches from Leopard and it is a little bit annoying.
Can I somehow disable Spotlight to search from Leopard when I'm booted on Lion and vice versa?
    Thank you

  • Iweb 08 and iweb 06 issues, need help

i have an old white imac running tiger ilife 06 and i made a website on iweb in it, then i got a new macbook running leopard and ilife 08, how do i transfer the project from one to the other? i rang a few apple stores and i couldn't understand what to do? can i use dot mac or a file transfer or something?

    This might work.
I think o8 allows you to import or update an o6 file. The trick is to get this file from your old computer.
Try to find this file: library> application support> iweb> domain.sites
Find the same folder on your new computer and copy it into it.
With iweb not open double click this file. It should open your site. If not launch iweb08 and see if it will update the o6 file.

  • Struggling Between iWeb '06 and iWeb '08

I have had an incredible journey (awful) due to upgrading from iWeb '06 to '08. Suffice to say that I've been working for several weeks to make things work, as this site is for my business. I'm over the lack of information in the manual regarding backing up the Domain.sis file, and I'm over how incompatible the upgrade seemed to be with the previous version.
While I publish my site to .mac (http://web.mac.com/ralphandsarah/LifeCourseMinistries/Home.html), that is not the one I use for public viewing--http://lifecourse.org is the one people see. The .mac site is where a few editors and artists comment and counsel me. Lifecourse.org is for everyone to see and use.
    Here's where I am now:
Most of my pages load properly, with two major exceptions: 1) I cannot ftp (Cyberduck) my audio teachings to my lifecourse.org site. I have made a work-around by sending viewers to the .mac site, where it loads properly. I have had to remove any menu bar on that .mac page as all links would keep my viewers within .mac. So I have given them only one choice--click on a Return to LifeCourse Home page link. Rather unprofessional, I would say. Further, for some reason, no audio and no pictures will load at lifecourse.org. I noticed that when publishing to a file from iWeb '08, virtually every file is saved as, for example, lifecourse.org/Home_files, or lifecourse.org/facttoface/html, etc. However, Downloads is saved as lifecourse.org/Downloads. There is no extension, but that's how iWeb '08 saves it to my file for publishing via the ftp program. When I ftp that file, it fails to show up.
    2) When viewing my web site from the Firefox browser, there is a regular lack of shading on fonts and pictures and menu bars on all pages (except Speaking Topics); the title of our ministry, LifeCourse has no edge or shading, while Ministries does, even though both are formatted the same; formatting on the page, Who We Are, is terrible from about half-way down; formatting on the page, LifeNotes, is terrible; formatting on the page, What People Say, is terrible; the other pages load properly. View either address (http://lifecourse.org, or http://web.mac.com/ralphandsarah/LifeCourseMinistries/Home.html) with Firefox or Internet Explorer and the results are completely unacceptable. The lifecourse.org site looks fine via Safari, but not through anything else.
Obviously, this site is my business. I have had to discourage people from going to my web site(!), and have now included a link on the Home page for people to download Safari that few, if any, will follow. Frankly, they shouldn't have to. With iWeb '06, they didn't have to. With nearly eight out of ten people arriving to my site via a browser other than Safari, the results have been very discouraging. . .and costly.
    What has happened?
    What should I do?

Have you tested the integrity of your site by publishing to a folder on the desktop and launching it directly in the browser by double clicking the index.html file?
If this is OK then the problem is with FTP or on the server. Check that all the files in the desktop folder are present on the server.
Tom Gewecke has an excellent page about FTP that you may want to read ...
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/iwebserver.html
I was referring to the time your site takes to download in IE - not Firefox. Once the page loads it sticks when you try to scroll. The main cause of this is page files that are too large and images are usually the biggest problem. Have a look here to see how you can reduce your image file sizes.
    http://roddymckay.com/PhotoStuff/PhotoFile.html
I just tried loading the page "Life Notes" in the WWB (my code for IE - the world's worst browser").
The page loads eventually but, this time, it crashed IE when I tried to scroll.

  • Can MBP run both WiFi and Ethernet connections at same time?

I've been running my mid-2012 MBP via USB and WiFi.
I acquired 8-port 10/100Mbp Switch.  Can I run hardware like printers, external HD from MBP via the Ethernet switch and still keep USB connections and WiFi net for other purposes at same time?
(I found USB-ethernet adapters on internet)

Macs and many PCs can keep multiple network connections going. When you look at the list of connections in the Network system preference, the one on top is the primary connection and if you want another network interface to be the primary (like Ethernet) you use Set Service Order to drag it to the top of the list.
But when you do that, I think all services use whatever is primary. What I don't know how to do is make specific applications use specific network interfaces.
