Run Oracle VM Manager in VMware VM??

Yes, I know it's sounds a little clugy but that is what my customer is asking. They do not want to provision another physical server simply to be the VM Manager.
Is it supported to install the Oracle VM Manager inside of a VMware virtual machine?

+"The Unbreakable Enterprise kernel is not supported on any version of ESX/ESXi host. "+ The requirements for the latest version of Oracle OVM are Oracle Linux 5 Update 5 64-bit or later. As of 5.6, the UEK kernel is default.Oracle VM Manager doesn't require the UEK. You can boot back into the Red Hat compatible kernel and still run Oracle VM Manager, under VMware ESXi.

  • How we can run Oracle Batch Manager in Oracle Sales Analyzer

    Hi,
Please guide me how we can run Oracle Batch Manager in Oracle Sales Analyser.
    Best Regards,

You cannot run Batch Manager directly from within the OSA Administrator or Analyzer clients. Batch Manager has its own GUI client that can be used the define and schedule jobs, however, it also possible to run and montitor jobs via command line as well.
    The documentation helps explain this:

    Does that help?

  • Does Oracle Support Running Oracle 10 Database on VMware ?

    hi experts,
I have 10g Enterprise on a Windows 64-bit Enterprise platform.
I know this is a recurring question - whether or not Oracle really supports customers that run Oracle databases in a VMWare environment.
I found a document on My Oracle Support/metalink that is dated 2007. It says VMWare is not supported.
But I think the situation may have changed since 2007.
So can anyone point me to a document that shows whether Oracle does/does not support running Oracle databases on VMware - not Oracle's VMware product but VMWare, inc. ?
Thanks for any current information. John

    1) Oracle has their own virtualization solution;
    2) VMWare is a brand, not a product. Your question is best asked in context of a product;
    3) Oracle will provide you with support as long as you can reproduce the problem in a non-VM environment.
That last means - it is up to you to prove that the problem is not related to VMWare environment.I have never seen any scenario where Oracle demands you to prove that the problem is not related to VMware.
If its their suggested solution does not work, and they think i should, they want you to migrate it to a physical machine and test there, however this has never happend, at least not for us. We have around 100 databases in VMware, and the common talk (even from Oracle people that visits us) is that the document is only there IF THERE BY SOME CHANCE IN THE WORLD WOULD COME TO A PROBLEM FOR A COMPANY, WHERE VMWARE IS THE PROBLEM, AND ORACLE CANT HELP, they have to have a get-out clause in terms of support against VMware.

  • Running Oracle Text Manager w/o DBA

We've been using the Oracle Text KB and our own thesaurus to index documents on help.unc.edu for two years now. We upload the new thesaurus files with ctxload each time new terms need to be added. I have to ask my DBA to run it in the shell on the DB server. I'd really like to manage the thesaurus and KB directly using the "Oracle Text Manager" application. Can this be run without DBA privledges, by granting select privledges to some other user? Can it be run from a client instead of on the server itself?
Does anyone have recommendations in this regard?

No.  You can still create and distribute profiles but not through a push solution.  Look at MCX in WGM or even Apple Configurator and manually distribute.
If this is a lab with no internet, how much change management do you need?

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager Console Login issue

    HI Guys,
I have installed Oracle 10g on my Windows 7 64 bit system and have trouble running Oracle Enterprise Manager Console.
When I open Oracle Enterprise Manager Console it prompts me for a Hostname and SID parameters. For which I have given my System name as the parameter and orcl as the SID.
Then I get an error saying that " Failed to parse tnsnames.ora file ServiceAliasException: 11 "
    Please Help!!
    Thank you!!

The dbconsole needs to be configured, assuming your database instance is up and running ...

  • Configuration Problem Oracle Enterprise Manager 9i

    Hello Friends,
I have installed oracle 9i on windows 2000 server, But when I run oracle enterprise manager it asks me the userid and password.
Anyone could tell me what is the userid and password i should provide, and any other necessary configuration to work with OEM 9i
Your response would be great help for me.
    Thanks,
    Faisal.

If you want to get connection in stand-alone mode you can use the user system and its password. If you do not know the password of the user system you can do this in the Oracle Server.
    SET ORACLE_SID=<database_sid>
    sqlplus /nolog
    conn / as sysdba
    alter user system identified by <new_password>;
    exit
through that way you will be change the password to the user system and you will be able to get connection from OEM. There are other details to get connection from OEM . Test it so and if you have troubles to do it you will be able to reply.

  • Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1 build 399

    Hi All,
We've released the latest Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1 patch update (build 399) to My Oracle Support. See the download instructions at OTN. http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/vm/downloads/index.html
Download Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1 Patch Update from My Oracle Support, patch ID 14227416
Bugs fixed in Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1-399 are:
14338549 - Fixes the issue where the log files do not have sufficient information to determine why TCPS fails to be enabled.
14318605 - Ensures that the upgrade process should not continue in case when the Oracle VM Manager cannot be stopped.
14256453 - Fixes the issue in server rediscovery due to the yum repository URL reset.
14222824 - Fixes the issue where iSCSI initiators were no longer associated with the ZFS Storage Appliance Access Groups after a restart of the Oracle VM Manager.
In addition, this build provides a number of bug fixes and enhancements to Oracle VM Manager 3 Command Line Interface (CLI) - https://wikis.oracle.com/display/oraclevm/Oracle+VM+Manager+3+CLI
Oracle VM Manager 3.0.3 or 3.1.1 can be upgraded to this Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1 patch update. Unzip the patch file on the server running Oracle VM Manager and execute the runUpgrader.sh script.
    # mount -o loop,ro ovmm-3.1.1-upgrade-b399.iso /mnt
    # cd /mnt
    # ./runUpgrader.sh
Please refer to the Oracle VM Installation and Upgrade Guide http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E27300_01/E27308/html/index.html for details.
In addition, it's highly recommended to update Oracle VM Server 3.1.1 with the latest patch update. Please review the Oracle VM User's Guide http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E27300_01/E27309/html/vmusg-servers-manage.html#vmusg-servers-yum for specific instructions on how to use a Yum repository to perform the Oracle VM Server update.

  • Updating Oracle VM Manager from 3.1.1 to 3.2.1 where server is yum repo

I have a server running Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.3. Upon which is running Oracle VM Manager 3.1.1 ("BUILDID=3.1.1.305" from /u01/app/oracle/ovm-manager-3/.config).
This server is also my Oracle Enterprise Linux yum repo. This means its subscribed channels are (on ULN):
    - Latest Unbreakable Enterprise Linux Kernel for Oracle Linux (x86_64)
    - Oracle Linux 6 Add ons (x86_64)
    - Oracle Linus 6 Latest (x86_64)
    - Oracle VM 3 latest
    - Oracle VM 3.2.1 Server Patches
Note that the last one was "Oracle VM 3.1.1 Server Patches" until this attempt to update. The "Yum Server" button is also ticked on ULN and I've followed the instructions on http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/articles/servers-storage-admin/yum-repo-setup-1659167.html.
Now, when I attempt a "yum update" on this server I get the following:

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va nofiles nodigest
Can someone please explain what mistakes I've made so I can get this box updated (both OS and Oracle VM Manager), please? Do I simply need to exclude some channels for the duration of the update of the local box, then add them back in for the repo mirroring to continue working?
    With thanks,
    Ben

It appears that for the most part the package ovs-release is the problem. To judge from the first half of a failed yum update. Why isn't there an ovs-release package that references el6 packages? Really, did I make a mistake installing Oracle VM Manager on OL6 given that http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleVM/OVM3/latest/x86_64/ contains only "el5"-tagged packages?

  • Error when installing Oracle Identity Manager

    Hello,
I'm having a problem when trying to install Oracle Identity Manager. I am trying it now for consecutive two days and it is always the same problem.
    I read this thread:
Problem installing Oracle Identity Manager Server (but still have no clue what to do).
I'm installing it in a virtual lab environment (Windows Server 2008 on WMware).
    It is a fresh install.
    Installing scenario:_
    *1.* Oracle Database 10g (10.2.0.3)
*2.* Toad DBA Suite for Oracle
    *3.* Oracle Weblogic Server 11g R1
    *4.* Oracle Identity Manager v9.1.0.1
    *5.*
Then i create a new Oracle database instance for Oracle Identity Manager as described here:
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32386_01/generic.902/b32140/database.htm
    *6.*
Then i prepare the DB for Oracle Identity Manager by running:
    prepare_xl_db.bat XELL C:\Oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1 xelsysadm password123 xeltbs C:\Oracle\product\10.2.0\oradata xeltbs_01 TEMP password123
as described here (Preparing the Database on Windows):
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B32386_01/generic.902/b32140/database.htm
    *7.*
I get no errors after running the script has finished
    *8.*
Then i run Oracle Identity Manager v9.1.0.1\OIM9101\installServer\setup_server.exe
    *9.*
I go throw the steps and after installing the following error pop ups:
Following Error occurred during schema creation  connected*
Error encountered while loading database script*
    +...\Oracle Identity Manager v9.1.0.1\OIM9101\installServer\Xellerate/db/oracle/xell.sql+
    Contact your DBAORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PLS-00905: object SYSTEM.PIN_OBJ is invalid ORA-06550: line 1, column 7: PL/SQL: Statement ignored [10/7/09 12:18 PM]*
    *10.*
Then i click next and this message pop ups:
Oracle Identity Manager Installer has found that SetDBKey.bat failed.*
    *11.*
    Then the setup ends/aborts
Does anybody have any idea what this error is about and how to work around?
I would really appreciated it. I am getting desperate, because i don't know what i am doing wrong. Thank you very much in advance!

    daniel/maki,
I'm trying to install Oracle Identity Manager. After giving the inputs for all screen, in the end it give me error "SetDBKey.bat error"
    My Products:
    1. Oracle Database 10g (10.2)
    2. Oracle Application Server 10g R3
    3. Oracle Identity Manager v9.1.0.1
    My Installation Steps:
    1. Installed Oracle Application server and upgraded to 10.3.3
    2. Installed Oracle Database 10g and created database idmda2
    3. Prepared Database for OIM
    prepare_xl_db.bat idmda2 C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1 sysadm sysadm orctbs C:\Oracle\product\10.2.0\oradata orcltbs_01 TEMP test23
I get no errors after running the script has finished
    4. Deployed the application XIMDD on OAS
    verified for prerequisities
    5. Then i run Oracle Identity Manager v9.1.0.1\OIM9101\installServer\setup_server.exe
At the "Provide databse connectivity information" screen I have used the "sysadm" which i used at the time of preparing the database for oim
I am not using "system" account and still i am getting "Oracle Identity Manager Installer has found that SetDBKey.bat failed" error.
What is that i am missing here?
    6. Then the setup ends/aborts
Thank you very much in advance!

    Hi,
Anyone has managed to run Oracle on Linux VMware kit in runlevel 3 instead of 5, i.e. no GUI.

I have managed to run Redhat linux in run level 3, by editing /etc/inittab and change the run level to 3.
However, the RAC services didn't managed to start up. When I run crsstat, it gets cannot connect to CRS.

In the document 294932.1 Section 4 there are no pre-installation patches or update for OS RedHat LinuxAS4.
When I type echo $LD_ASSUME_KERNEL it doesn't display any value so do I need to set the LD_Assume_Kernal value manually.
If yes, please let me know the path and command to set the kernel value.
    Thanks
    Amith
