Looking on the net, anyone who has hit this has had a problem with permissions, so as suggested I ran:
    [root@RiskmgmtDB01 grid]# /usr/sbin/getenforce
    Disabled
    [root@RiskmgmtDB01 grid]# /usr/sbin/setenforce 0
    /usr/sbin/setenforce: SELinux is disabled
    [root@RiskmgmtDB01 grid]# /usr/sbin/getenforce
    Disabled
As this is already set to disabled, I don't think it will help.
The two other threads similar to this are:
root.sh failed with signal 11 while installing 11gR2 grid infrastructure
root.sh script fail to run on OEL5.4
But neither works. I've raised a support request, but if anyone else has a bright idea ....
    Thanks, Duncan

    Hi,
    sounds like a security/firewall problem.
Because if during the configuration something is not "acting" it's mostly because packages are not delivered/recieved and "hang" instead of delivering error messages.
To make sure deactivate any firewall, and if this is linux deactivate SE Linux.
Next time please specify version and OS you encounter the error. This would make it easier to help you...
    Regards
    Sebastian

Are you using ASM for managing voting and OCR disk storage, or are you manually setting these to specific block devices?

  • Root.sh fails - asm won't shut down

I am trying to instal clusterware 11gR2 on Oracle Enterprise Linux 5. This is all running an Oracle Virtualbox environment, using ASM for the cluster disk in an openfiler. 32 bit installation, 1GB memory allocated to each node environment. I had to ignore errors for the following:
    < 1.5 GB memory
    small swap file
ncsd and ntpd processes not running (not connected to internet), I understand Oracle will install it's own timer service if this is not present
Running root.sh fails because asm won't shut down properly:
    [root@odbn1 grid]# ./root.sh
    Running Oracle 11g root.sh script...
The following environment variables are set as:

Has anyone seen this before? All help greatly appreciated!

    Hi Sebastian,
Thank you for your quick reply. Here's what I tried:
    1. reset the install as you suggested, and tried running root.sh again. The exact same thing happened.
    2. restored to an openfiler snapshots that were taken right before the failed upgrade. Increased memory on both VMs to 1280M as you suggested. Rebooted the virtual environment and ran the installation again. This time, the root.sh script froze my environment - not enough memory to support this.
    3. restored the openfiler snapshots again. Increased memory on one node (odbn1) to 1500M. Ran the install for a single node cluster. It got past this error.
    Thank you!!!
Also, thanks for the tip on the ntp.init file. That did eliminate the error for ntpd not running during the installation.

Somebody have any ideas about this?
    Tks!

Now i finally installed CRS and run root.sh without errors (i think that problem is in some old file from other instalation tries...)
But now i have another problem: When install DB software, in step to copy instalation to remote node, this node have some failure in CLSMON/CSSD daemon and panicking:

  • MSB5003: Failed to create a temporary file.

All of a sudden we are getting this error on the build computer.  We have searched the forums and followed other resolutions (delete the Temp directory) but still it continues.
    The full error message:
[Any CPU/Debug] C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v3.5\Microsoft.CSharp.targets(135,9): error MSB6003: The specified task executable "Csc.exe" could not be run.
MSB5003: Failed to create a temporary file. Temporary files folder is full or its path is incorrect. The file exists.
Any ideas what to try next?

Not permissions.  Not TEMP path name.
After some research we ran Process Monitor during the build.  Turns out we used up all of the temporary file names... LOL!
Tmp file names in Vista, and maybe others, have the format tmp####.tmp, where #### is 0x0000 to 0xffff.   When we looked in the Temp directory we found over 65,000 TMP files.  We are guessing that CSC creates these files but does not remove them.  After so many thousands of builds, we ran out of names.  We thought they were gone when we ran Disk Cleanup, but MSBUILD uses the administrator account while we were cleaning from a user account.
Might be nice if CSC deleted it's TMP files...
There ya go, add that to your bag of tricks... :)

    Hi,
it looks like, that your "shared device" you are using is not really shared.
The second node does "create an ASM diskgroup" and create OCR and Voting disks. If this indeed would be a shared device, he should have recognized, that your disk is shared.
So as a result your VMware configuration must be wrong, and the disk you presented as shared disk is not really shared.
Which VMWare version did you use? It will not work correctly with the workstation or player edition, since shared disks are only really working with the server version.
If you indeed using the server, could you paste your vm configurations?
Furthermore I recommend using Virtual Box. There is a nice how-to:

    HI,
the second node (second root.sh) should not want to "create" the diskgroup data, since it is already there.
This pretty much sounds like you tried to start both root.sh (on the first node and on the second node) at the same time, not waiting for it to finish on the first node.
It is important, that before you start the root.sh on the second node, it has to be finished successfully on the first node for the cluster to update the information.

    2014-10-31 12:52:37, Info [0x000000] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    2014-10-31 12:52:37, Info [0x000000] | A Windows Win32 API error occurred
2014-10-31 12:52:37, Info [0x000000] | Windows error 3 description: The system cannot find the path specified.
    2014-10-31 12:52:37, Info [0x000000] +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the user in question, when I browse \\san.f.q.d.n\share$\username, the BACKUP directory exists, but there are no sub directories.
I manually created the sub directories, USERNAME\USMT - so the full path now exists: \\san.f.q.d.n\share$\username\BACKUP\USERNAME\USMT
I re-ran USMT but the process returned the same error.
If I specify other shares not on san.f.q.d.n but on san1.f.q.d.n or server.f.q.d.n or even workstation.f.q.d.n, it works fine.
Can someone provide guidance on how to troubleshoot this further?

In Windows, setting the Environmental Variable sometimes DOES NOT WORK.
The -Djava.io.tmpdir=C:\temp setting must be made in the server properties of the oc4j in order for it to work.

    Thanks Sandy,
I have already solved the problem , I  have done the following actions:
    1. Stop J2EE engine
    2. rename folder
         /usr/sap/<SID>/<Instance>/j2ee/os_libs/adssap
Please rename this adssap folder to adssap.old
    3. Start J2EE engine
During starting J2EE engine, folder adssap will be re-generated.
    4. Also make sure XMLform.exe is extracted under
        /usr/sap/<SID>/<Instance>/j2ee/os_libs/adssap/XMLFormService/bin
I restarted the entire instance (ABAP  and JAVA) and now all is running fine.

    Hello,

I would like to configure my portal only from script without manual approach.

  • Root.sh fails while installation of 10.2.0.1 clusterware on Solaris

    All
I am trying to configure RAC on solaris 10 OS running on a 64 bit SPARC machine using RAW slices for the cluster files /dev/rdsk/c1t9d0s5 (OCR)and /dev/rdsk/c1t9d0s6 (Vote Disk). Using format command, I would create these slices leaving about 10 cylinders initially I would assign 200mb for each slice.
when I try to run OUI for cluster ware 10.2.0.1 at the step when I am asked to run root.sh, my attempt to run this script continues to fail with below error message.

From the log files under the folder CRS_HOME/log/<hostname>/client does not reveal much information either... If you have any idea of whats going wrong and needs a fix/workaround could you please help me? Below are more details of the Software Stack and H/W which may be of some help.
OS: Solaris 5.10 running on SF 480R.
    Cluster 10.2.0.1
I intend to install RDBMS 10.2.0.1 on top of this and later upgrade it to 11.1
I am referring to the Oracle Clusterware and Oracle Real Application Clusters Installation Guide (b14205-01) published by Oracle.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sarat.

Thanks for the assiatance. However, I am yet to proceed beyond this root.sh.
after multiple tries.. I am coming across this Oracle UDLM software which I am sure I do not have on my cluster machines. But not in every place is it mentioned? What is this software about.. I have searched all my oracle and no where this package / patch is available.. if you know about it ( the patch number or something) can you help me?
Also I have a question to clarify... it could be elimentary .. but request your patience... On the Sun Cluster we have defined Disk Resource Groups which are configured for cold failover along with other resource groups ... is this some thing which is not allowed/permitted.. I mean not supported...
I will need your help as I am singing this song of Oracle RAC on Sun Solaris 10 for the first time..
    Regards!

  • 10g R2 RAC on Solaris 10 error when running root.sh

hi, I am installing Oracle 10g rac on Solaris 10 with two nodes. In the end of the installation of RAC when a run root.sh I get the error bellow.
    # /opt/crs/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/root.sh
Checking to see if Oracle CRS stack is already configured
Setting the permissions on OCR backup directory
    Setting up NS directories
Failed to upgrade Oracle Cluster Registry configuration

I have done this install using a pair of T2000's and a 65XX SAN. The install doco is not straight forward. I had to compile a number of Metalink notes to eventually get the disk partitions sorted. Of particular help was Note:271621.1.
Since I am not a Solaris admin, the next bit is caveated as "This is how I did it" and maybe not how anyone else would have done it. These things were not explicitly noted, but gleaned through a bit of reading:
    1) you need to throw away the first cylinder of each LUN. I did this by creating the first partition as a single cylinder.
2)then create s4 (or whichever slice you desire) as the rest of the space allocated to that LUN.
    3) Repeat this for each LUN presented
    4) I created a directory /san under which I then created the character mode (raw) interface for each of ocr, vote.
    5) For asm, and for no other reason than being self documenting, I created /san/asm and created character mode interfaces to each of the LUN's for datadg and fradg
    6) repeat steps 1-5 on the other box
I took quite some time (2 days) to extract all this and assemble it to a working system. But has always been stable.
