Run Safari 4 and 5 on the same Mac

Hello,
Does anyone know if Safari 4 and 5 can run on the same Mac running OS X version 10.6.5? I am testing for functionality of web sites that we are developing under different browsers.
Thank you,
Angelo

  • Can I run Photoshop CS4 and CS1 on the same Mac?

I've been building pages for a website on my old Mac with Photoshop CS1 then slicing and optimising them in ImageReady before uploading to the site I'm building in Dreamweaver where I put in the body text.
Recently I upgraded to a newer Mac running Snow Leopard and CS4 where I discovered that ImageReady is now considered a thing of the past. I read that Fireworks and Dreamweaver are now the most sophisticated way to go but after a month perservering with fireworks I'm finding it a very clunky, complicated way to operate. I don't like using it and I hate the prospect of starting over to re-build my existing site.
So... will my CS1 version of Photoshop and Imageready run successfully on Snow Leopard and, if so, can I have two versions of one program loaded on my Mac at once? The aim is to be able to use CS1 for Imageready and revert to CS4 for my usual work.

  • Can I run iMovie 09 and 11 on the same Mac?

I recently upgraded to a Mac Mini with iMovie 11 - from a MBP with iMovie 09, but it seems I can't edit any of the projects from 09 in 11. Is this correct? I can't even open them.
The MBP can't cope with the movies I'm working on - which was one reason I upgraded, it is so slow and every time i try to move around in a project the spinning ball comes up & it takes forever to do anything.
I've tried several things suggested on this forum to speed it up but nothing's working, so wondered if I take the 09 application from the MBP and put it on the Mac Mini running 10.8.4, will it work, will it clash with iMovie 11, will I be able to open my old projects in it? Are there other files that I have to transfer over apart from the actual application?
    Thanks!

  • Error Running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time

    Hello,
We are having trouble running Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time on certain user's machines. Here are the specifics:
The user opens Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer. The user then opens Discoverer in another Internet Explorer windows and receives the following error: Runtime Error! Program: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe abnormal program termination
As a work around, I installed Firefox on those user's machines. These users run Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer and run Discoverer in FireFox. This has solved the problem in 99% of the cases. However, there is one user who is having FireFox using Discoverer freeze when running Oracle Apps in Internet Explorer.
Can anyone provide any insight on how I can solve these conflict issues so users can run Oracle Apps and Discoverer at the same time?
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Carlos

    Hi Michael,
I agree with you completely. It is reccommended to run 10g on a separate physical server unless you have sufficient resources to run on the same server (which even most large clients do not) Even then, I would recommend a separate server.
I should have put my comment in context :-)
a.) I was only stating that it was possible
    and
b.) whether 10g is installed on the same physical server or separate should not affect the client browser crashing issue that was posted.
I do have an install with EBS11i and Discoverer 10g on the same physical server and it works fine (this is sandbox/ TEST). Most of my large customers have 10g installed on multiple physical servers due to load balancing (capacity).
I do work for Oracle. I try to help out on the forum when I can, but it is hit or miss :-(
I would be glad to discuss anything privately.
As for the issue at hand, I can reproduce the problem and here is what is occuring.
I have EBS 11i configured with Jiniator 1.3.24
I have Discoverer 10g configured with Sun Java plugin 1.4.2_06
    1. If you launch EBS 11i apps and a form with MS IE, then the browser launches the form using Jiniator JRE 1.3.xx (whatever you have configured in AutoConfig for EBS11i)
    2. Next, the user navigates to EBS 11i SSWA and launches a Discoverer workbook.
What occurs is a child IEXPLORE.exe process is spawned from the parent IEXPLORE.exe process and Discoveer Plus is launched. The parent iexplore.exe process will be attached to the Jiniator JVM. Now if Discoverer is configured with
    a.) Sun Java Plugin or
b.)a version of Jinitiator that is a different version from what EBS 11i is configured with
then you may get this conflict.
It really is an MS IE/JRE conflict with Jinitiator and Sun Java Plugi and the way the broswers attaches to the JVM (IMHO) as this behaviour could be reproduced with other non-oracle java applets.
You can workaround the situation by:
    a. configure EBS11i and Discoverer to use the same version of Jiniator 1.3.xx
    b. educate the users to open one MS IE browser to connect to EBS11i and then open a second MS IE browser to login to EBS11i SSWA or Discoverer 10g Plus directly to launch workbooks. They need to to this by clicking on the icon and not using File >> New browser. Clicking on the icon will spawn a new parent iexplore.exe process that can attach to a second/different JVM. File >> New Window will spawan a child of the parent.
    c. As you did use two browser versions. MS IE for EBS11 connection and FireFox for Disocverer 10g connection.
I would choose optoin b, so that you can use Sun Java Plugin with Discoverer.
Open to any comments. I hope that helps you workaround the problem. The ideal solution is to have EBS 11i use/cerified with the 1.4 or 1.5 JRE. In poking around, I see there is a related post to this on one of Oracle's EBS 11i Product Managers Blog.

  • Running Reports 6i and 9i at the same time

I was wondering what the issues were with running Reports 6i and 9i at the same time. We are planning on up grading at a client, and I heard that there are some problems with doing this. I was thinking that installing them in different ORACLE_HOME's would help keep problems to a minimum. At home I have Reports 6i and 9i running, and I have not seen any problems.

We suggest you install 6i and 9i at different oracle home. There are no known issue about running 6i and 9i at the same time.
    Thanks,

  • Can I use both iPhoto 6 and 5 on the same Mac?

I gave up on iPhoto 6 when it comes to publishing web galleries (see my posts at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=456532&tstart=0 )
Can I use both iPhoto 6 and 5 on the same Mac?
    Thanks!

    Lior:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Yes you can but it takes a lot of caution! You can have both application running their own library. But the problem comes in when you launch V5 into the last used library, a V6 library, and it can corrupt that library so it won't open in V6 again. Conversely, if you open V6 and the V5 library was the last to be opened and you don't pay attention, you'll convert it to a V6 and lose the V5 access.
So you have to make sure you ALWAYS launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and manually select the library to use each time. Also Name each library differently. I use V6 LIbrary and V5 Library. You can rename your current one and then launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and navigate to it to open it.

  • Can I run Photoshop CS4 and CS5 on the same system?

I read somewhere a zillion years ago (right?) that you coould run CS4 and CS5 on the same system but at the time I wasn't even considering it.
Run on the same system - not ness to run at the same time
Or should I install it on a seperate drive (bootable) and go that route. What has everyone found to work and/or not work?
Thanks in advance for your help
    BJ

Yes, you can run CS4 an CS5 on the same computer.  They install in different folders and don't get in each other's way.  As a matter of fact, you will find many posts in this forum from the experts recommending to keep CS4 (or an earlier version) when installing CS5.  This way, there is no danger of losing any older plug-ins you may have that aren't compatible to CS5.
When I installed PS CS5 I had problems with my scanner driver.  Instead of spending loads of time fixing that problem, I just use PS CS4 when I want to spend an afternoon scanning things. I'm not recommending that "lazy man's" solution, but it is an example of how CS4 and CS5 can be used on the same system.

  • Is it possible to keep both iPhoto and Aperture on the same Mac

I would like to use both IPhoto (for day by day pictures) and Aperture (for pictures made with my SLR in Raw format).
Is anybody able to advice me about this opportunity?

You can keep both Applications (iPhoto and Aperture) on the same computer and separate libraries for iPhoto and Aperture;  images from both libraries will/should be available in other Applications from the Media Browser. In the long run, after you get accustomed to working Aperture, you will find it more convenient to migrate all your images to Aperture. Aperture has the more efficient storage strategy, you need less disk space to store multiple versions of the same image in Aperture than in iPhoto, and Aperture is the more versatile tool.
It is easy to migrate iPhoto libraries to Aperture, but that is a one way road, if you want to export back to iPhoto, you can export your images, but not all of your library structure.

  • LAN and WAN share the same MAC address -- could this be a security issue?

When I bought the AEBS(n), I was a bit surprised to see only one ethernet MAC address listed (on bottom of unit, or was it in config utility?), in addition to wireless MAC. My main router has two ethernet MACs.
So last nite, I investigated. I confirmed my suspicion that both the WAN port and the LAN ports share the same MAC address! My setup has the AEBS WAN port plugged into my home LAN's main router, and a Linux machine plugged into a LAN port of the AEBS.
View of AEBS WAN side (from main router at 192.168.1.1)
    ii# arp
    Seconds IP Address MAC Address
    734 66.130.224.1 001120A87AF5 -- ISP router
    789 192.168.1.21 0016CBC430A6 -- AEBS WAN port
    28 192.168.1.33 0010DC47DC53 -- home PC
    824 192.168.1.73 00065BB2F295 -- work PC
View of AEBS LAN side (from a Linux box at 10.0.1.41)
    root@LKG7CAE25 # cat /proc/net/arp
IP address HW type Flags HW address Mask Device
    10.0.1.1 0x1 0x2 00:16:CB:C4:30:A6 * eth0
10.0.1.1 on the LAN side of AEBS and 192.168.1.21 on the WAN side of the AEBS both use the same MAC address, 00:16:CB:C4:30:A6.
I tried to provoke some leakage between the two sides (for example with broadcast packets), but haven't been able to do it so yet. Perhaps the switch in front of the eth MAC has enough smarts to keep the two subnets separate? Still it sort of worries me, if I used the AEBS as my only router, that both WAN and LAN go thru the same ethernet MAC (same h/w). I browsed here but found no discussion on this.
    Comments anyone?

.... This is why there are separate MAC addresses
for ethernet and wireless, they are physically
different networks. In the case of the WAN/LAN, both
are ethernet-type networks but are physically
distinct (this is the purpose of a router like the
AEBS), so having the same MAC address on both sides
won't cause any sort of collision nor should it be
possible to leak across networks. MAC addresses can't
be used for routing beyond the physical network.
If it is indeed two different NICs sharing a single MAC, then indeed it is not an issue as you would never want to connect these two NICs together. But is it really two NICs?
My worry is that these two subnets are on the same physical network, with some magic going on to keep them separate anyway. Do we have some picture of AEBS internals? Maybe that would answer the question...

  • When I hit reply in hot mail... only about 1/3 of my old email follows me to the reply screen.... it does this only on my notebook but is fine on my desk top... both run windows XP and both have the same version of firefox

I have an ACER notebook running XP and a HP desk to running XP... both run the same version of Firefox... on the notebook when I'm in an email (MSN) and hit reply only a portion of my existing email will go to the new reply screen..... and when I try to scroll down it stops part of the way down and won't let me see the complete email, let alone add a reply at the bottom....
Yet my desk top works fine..... Help please.... [email protected]

I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6.

  • Running FW 400 and 800 at the same time

Somebody told me there are problems running a 400 drive and an 800 drive at the same time. Is that true? I'm considering what drive to buy for audio on my macbook which only has one 400 and one 800 port. Will I be able to back up from the 800 to a 400? The 800 drive has one 400 port so I can't daisy chain it as a 400. Does the 800 bus offer any advantages to audio recording besides faster archiving?

There shouldn't be any problems, and I've never heard of any.
However, chaining or bus sharing FW400 and FW800 (on any Mac) will always pull the overall bus speed down to the slower FW400 transfer rate. Which, when working with audio, will make no noticeable difference at all.
It's the same when bus sharing USB1 and USB2, the slower connection always takes precident.

  • Do I need 2 airport expresses to run a network and airtunes at the same time?

Meaning, if I set up the network in my office with the airport express, I need another one plugged into the stereo for air tunes right?  unless I want to unplug it and move it back and forth right?

If the stereo and the Internet modem are not in the same room, then "yes," you will need another AirPort Express in order to do both simultaneously.

  • Can't run Xbox live and computer at the same time

I purchased a E3000 router for Christmas so we can run our new laptop, desktop, son's ipod, and the xbox live. At first, the only problem we had was that if a video or large page was downloading on the internet, xbox live would glinch and run very slow. Now, if someone's on xbox live and someone else turns on a computer, it boots them off xbox live. I don't know what the problem is. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Is the Xbox connected to the wireless network?
Try changing some advanced wireless settings on the router.
Open the setup page of the router and go to Wireless tab. Click on Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the Beacon Interval to 75, RTS and fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings.
Click on Setup tab and change the MTU size to 1365. Save the settings and power cycle the router.
    See if that helps you.

  • Leopard and OS9 on the same Mac?

Can I upgrade a G5 that has OS9 installed along with OSX.4? This is for a friend of mine and I don't know if that will work. If it works, can someone tell me how to go about doing it?
    Thanks very much.

I know this discussion is a couple months old but I hope you are all still there with your thinking caps on. My situation in the same vane, but is slightly different:
I have a Titanium G4 PowerBook 1.0 GHz running 10.4.11 and OS 9.2.2 which I switch back and forth to via Start Up Disk. I need 9.2.2 for work reasons as a program we need is not Classic compatible, I use 10.4.11 for everything else before and after work. Just got my wife a MacBook Pro and I am very jealous over 10.5.
Can I install 10.5 and still switch back and forth to 9.2.2?
I have read that 10.5 does not support Classic which is ok as I rarely use it while in 10.4.11, but I need to make sure I can switch back and forth between OS's before upgrading to 10.5.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Can you run Boot Camp and Fusion at the same time?

    Hi,
I had boot camp installed on my mac pro and loved it. I decided to get greedy and install Fusion using the boot camp partition. The Fusion install went ok but then Microsoft started to get fussy. Every time I would do something on Fusion it would ask me to "Re-activate Windows" when I logged into boot camp. Maybe if I saw Fusion fully working I wouldn't want to run boot camp any more but I think I want to have the option to run either. Right now I only have 1 gig real memory on my mac pro and Fusion seems a little slow compared to native boot camp. Can I run both boot camp and fusion without having to buy two native copies of Windows XP pro? I don't want a "sensible" answer, I want an answer that takes into account how Microsoft treats this re-activation situation.
I guess Leopard might make this all obsolete, but until then .....
    ... Flash Gordon

You need to make sure to install VMware Tools into your virtual machine (while booted into Windows via Fusion). Once you do this you shouldn't have to continually activate Windows when going back and forth from Boot Camp to Fusion. I've seen this discussed over on the VMware Fusion discussion boards, so you may want to look there for more details.
Also, if Windows starts telling you it's been activated too many times, you can call Microsoft and they'll give you an alternate activation key. The phone number is listed on the Windows error screen. I had to do it and they were very accommodating. I just told them I was running Windows in a virtual machine, and there were almost no questions asked.
You don't need to buy 2 copies of Windows to run both Boot Camp and VMFusion.
