Run screen saver on main screen while still working on external?

Is it possible to run a screen saver on my laptop while working on my 23" LCD diaplay? Is there an app I could down load and run a screen saver inside a document window on my Mac..I use the external display and only once in a long time go back to my laptop display for email etc. Thanks.

You can do this: in the DESKTOP system preferences you can have different settings for your external and laptop display. Simply choose the "change picture" option, and designate the frequency of change. You can have the picture change as often as once every minute.

Step one is to log into a newly created admin user account and see if the problem persists. Also,

  • Password prompt after screen saver or lock screen

I am running Yosemite on two Macs – an early-2008 MBP 15" and a mid-2010 MBP 13". Both are configured for password after screen saver or when waking up. I have hot corners configured to enable screen saver (lower left), lock screen (upper right), disable screen saver (lower right). On awakening from either screen saver or lock screen, the 15" requests the password in a screen similar to the login after boot or switch user screen – the fullscreen, blurry background, prompt in the center. The 13" prompts for a password in an ordinary modal dialogue window that includes a lock icon and displays on a black background. The 13" has an external monitor attached, but the behavior is the same if it's disconnected. Both systems have one user, and identical settings in Users and Groups. The behavior is the same whether the Guest user is enabled or disabled.
I can't find any settings to account for the difference, even obscure ones shown in Onyx. Any ideas as to why the password prompt is handled differently in these two cases? Thanks in advance...

  • TS3274 Ipad 1 was dropped, screen is intact, can hear it still works but screen is blank, tried to restore but it failed? Help

    Hi,
My Autistic son dropped his ipad and now the screen is blank? The sound still works and I can hear the apps working but the screen is blank. The screen is not broken or chipped at all. I tried to restore it (as the Apple Store recognises the Ipad when I plug it into the computer) but the restore failed with an unknown error numbered 3194.  Does anyone know if there is a quick fix for this or do I need to send it into an Apple Store for repairs? I live on a small island so taking it into a store isn't an option unfortunately, plus my non verbal Autistic son is VERY distressed, so any quick resolution to enable to screen to be visual again would be a massive help please. Thank you

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard yesterday, twice I've been unable to get my screen saver to release back to my working desktop. Anybody else have this issue?

For a few users, since some point in OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, there has been an occasional problem when trying to wake from sleep if you have Bluetooth enabled for the keyboard, Magic Mouse, Trackpad, etc.
The solution for me that worked 100% of the time was: System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.
For me, the problem ran intermittently through 10.6.something, all of 10.7 and now, finally, seems to be resolved in 10.8.2.

Hold down on the sleep button and the home button at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen. Ignore the red slider. When the logo appears let go of the buttons.

    Kanna -
Check the table V_T588I, Screen headr, tr class A and headr modifier and accordingly
Check table T588J, assign you field for same header. Also check line and column, Most of the times Columns will be overlapped so before generating table T588J make it single test and see your field result.
    For Example-
    Table - V_T588I
Screen header, Tr Class, Headr Modifer
    00,                             A,                14
    Table - T588J
Headr Modifier,     Line,    Column,   IT,              Field Name,       Field Type
    14 ,                          3,        57,          0001,         ABKRS,              DAT
Hope this helps and am sure will resolve it by moving column numbers.

  • "Require password after screen saver begins" & "Start Screen Saver"

    Hello All,
Can someone tell me what the UNIX command strings are to set 1) "Require password after screen saver begins" on, 2) "Start Screen Saver" to 15 minutes and (3) "Disable remote control infrared receiver" via ARD? I have over 100 clients and it would be nice to issue the commands instead of walking up to each Mac spread all over the campus. Most of the clients are running 3.3.1. Thanks!

    Hello, Mike
There may be a command and the UNIX forums would be the place to really find the answer.
The problem is that each User has their own Screen Saver and Security settings. They are not global settings. If ARD is set up to access all of the other systems, then you can do it right from your office and flag which ones have been configured with the new settings with labels.

  • Screen Saver and Display Sleep No Longer Work

    My set up:
Mac Pro (stock) w/ 3GB RAM running 10.4.8.
Two ADC displays connected via ADC to DVI adapters
    Issue:
Recently I've noticed neither my screen saver nor display sleep work. I can get the machine to sleep manually, but not automatically. My energy settings have the display sleeping after 10 min w/ the computer and HDs never sleeping. Screen Saver is set to go on after 5 min.
My MP used to go into screen saver -> display sleep mode fine. I don't know exactly when the issues started, but probably around 10.4.8. I have not installed any major software recently other than normal Apple updates.
    What I've tried:
I've tried resetting the Energy Setting and Screen Saver Prefs and then doing a restart.
If anyone has an idea what is preventing my MP from going into screen saver -> display sleep mode please post. This is driving me nuts.
    MacBook Pro 1.83 (7200 HD)/ MacPro 2.66/ mini 1.5Ghz / PBG4 1.25Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Turned out a bad USB device was preventing sleep. Once I removed it the display went to sleep like a baby.

  • Screen image freezes but iMac seemingly still working

    Hi,
The screen on my iMAC has started to freeze in the past 1 maybe 2 weeks - there is no pattern to this - seems to be quite random.
However, it appears that just the image has frozen, the mouse pointer can move over the frozen image but cannot select anything.
If the iMAC goes into power save whilst the screen is frozen, pressing a key on the keyboard brings the frozen screen image back up - so it seems as though the peripherals are communicating with the iMAC, it's just that the screen image has frozen.
It froze on me today when doing a manual Time Machine BU to an external HDD - but the BU still continued on and I waited until the ext HDD went into sleep mode which indicates that BU has finished. After a hard reboot, I checked Time Machine and the BU was fine.
Any ideas on what needs to be fixed here?

Deleting the two plist files didn't work, and the Disk Utility found no errors with the disk.
Funny thing is that when I log in as the root user - this doesn't seem to happen, I had the root user up for 4 hours today, not a problem, why? What is it about the root user that seems to be protected from this but all other users are affected after a short period? The only difference is the regularity of login, last time I used root user prior to this problem was last year, have all of the other users picked up the same problem somehow.
I don't think it's the X1600 graphics card as the screen saver animated image is still able to kick in (or is this a low level BIOS function?), the processor doesn't seem to be frozen either as the talking clock continues to read out the time, the keyboard however does not respond when the screen has frozen.
Would restoring user accounts from a Time Machine Back up taken before this problem appeared be the way to go? Any potential pitfalls with this - can I literally just restore a user folder or is there other dependent stuff that would have to be restored as well?

  • Display, screen saver and touch screen questions

    Hi,
I want to achieve the following under WEC7. I was wondering which way is the best to achieve it.
A device which has a running application. That application might start a UI or not.
When the UI is not started, then the screen is black with a logo.
When the UI is started, a screen saver is active after x seconds of inactivity of the touch screen.
The system/UI/screen saver respond to a touch screen.
Now, I'm using the sandard shell. But when I read the doc on MSDN, I understand that I would need the This Shell Client. Is it right?
For the touch, I'm using a ELO device and the driver is already working. But it seems to emulate a mouse. I would like it to act like a real touch screen device. I guess I need the following SYSGEN variables for it to appear like a touch screen?SYSGEN_TOUCHGESTURE, SYSGEN_GESTUREANIMATION, SYSGEN_PHYSICSENGINE
What about SYSGEN_TOUCH? Do I need it?
How do I develop a screen saver? Do I need the thin shell client or a may develop it even if I use the standard shell? Is there a framework for that?
    Thanks for your help!
    David

Thin Client in CE 6 had a screen saver option. It is likely in Compact 7 as well. Take a look at

  • I cant change my monitor back from a (non existent) second screen to my main screen

I change my settings for my monitor in error so now when i load up my pc it doesnt show anything cause it thinks its on a second screen the pc does not have a second screen.

    Sealintim, welcome to the forum.
Which OS are you using?  I am using Win 8.1.  When I choose to display my screen on a second monitor only, it tries to locate the second monitor but can't locate it.  Then, it reverts to my main screen.  For this reason, I believe you may have a different problem.
What is the full model of the computer and monitor?

  • I have been trying to make the screen saver on my iMac 27" to work with no results. I change the settings and don't work neither. Please I need help

Since I bought this 27" IMac desktop I've been changing the settings for the screen saver and has been impossible to make it work. My screen goes black and no screen saver. I have try everything, If anyone can help me with this issue I really appreciate. thanks

first of all the only purpose for screensaver since we moved to LCD panels is if you think it look pretty
the old tube crt screens would get the image they displayed for a very long time burned into the phosphor
that being said then make sure your Energy Saver is not set to turn off the screen before or the same time as the screensaver is suppose to kick in

  • Export while still Working?

Is there a way to export (maybe, like using Compressor) and not tie up FCP, so exporting can occur while you still work in FCP?

beg to differ. Read the manual on compressing reference files. If you make a QT movie "not self contained" you are making a reference movie. That means it is referencing your render files to aid in the compression. You have to render in the timeline or you will compress an unrendered file. If it is a red line you will see the unrendered screen in your final compression.
The issue with this, according to the manual, is that Compressor has a better render engine than FCP does. If you use a rendered reference movie you will get the ability to compress while still using FCP, but you will suffer quality. Could be a negligible amount though depending on your footage.
The only way to compress without tying up your PC is to have a dedicated compressor. Get a mac mine for a few hundred bucks. Edit your work on an external drive. Detach from the tower, attach to the mac mini.
Of course, you will have to buy another seat of FCP to go with the mini...
